Deleting backed-up music
For about a year, i unknowingly had the setting enabled in itunes to backup all my imported music to a specific destination (somewhere in my documents, my music, ect). Now that my computer is getting low on space, i want to remove the unnecessary music that itunes has backed up into the my documents directory, however, whenever i delete on of the files that itunes had backed up, it says that it cant play that song anymore because it cannot locate the file. I also don't wish to delete all the songs and start again, because Ive already gone through all the effort of adding lyrics, album artwork and details to all of my songs (there's about 10GB of them!).
My question is; how can I free space my removing the unnecessary files that itunes has backed up, without having to re-add many many songs?
I think you are confusing things a little. If iTunes complains it can't play after deleting then it is not a backup you are deleting. iTunes backs up to to CD or DVD.

The songs were added while my husband was in Korea. So yes, it was probably done in itunes, but not on this computer. I was hoping there was a third party program that could recover the deleted files. I really do appreciate the time you have taken to try to help me, and I understand that alot of people are here trying to help other people, so typing in all capital letters probably is not or at least should not be so big of an issue, especially after the person corrected thier typing and explained why they were typing they were typing that way in the first place.;-)

HT1338 How do i get back my music that i have bought from itunes which i deleted by mistake thanks
how do i get back my music which i deleted by mistake which i bought from i tunes store
Well if it has a non-Filevaulted hard drive, you need to stop using the computer and either take it to a local PC/Mac repair shop that does data recovery or do it yourself with a spare blank powered external boot drive and $100 software that will read the deleted (but not yet overwritten) files.
Create a data recovery/undelete external boot drive
Once you have the files recovered, back your data up, especially burning data DVD's in iTunes.

I just deleted my entire music library and its in the trash, how do I move it back?
How did you delete it? Please provide more details to see what options you have available. Did you use iTunes by deleting the directory and confirming putting it in the trash or did you drag the actual iTunes folder in the trash? If you dragged the folder the solution is easy, either right click on the folder and select Put Back or manually return the folder to the previous location.
Do you have a recent backup of the entire iTunes Music folder including the iTunes Library.itl file or just the iTunes Library.itl file? -
When I plug in iPhone (5.1.1) to computer, playlists show up on the iPhone (when plugged in), that do not appear when it is not plugged in. And I can't erase them. I have iTunes match, and deleted all my music on the iPhone, but that had no effect on the phantom playlist that shows up on the PC when I plug in the iPhone to the PC. I cannot manually move songs or playlists from the PC to the iPhone
Help greatly appreciated.Unplug your Iphone out of your computer and replug it back in. It took me several times before I could do this

I accidently click on ''Import the list'' but now all the music have an exclamation point I think they are all in Musique.txt on the desk... How can i take back these music on my library? I tried : Import the list and take Music.txt , but it do not work
Ok, I had a glitch, forced to restart, and lost my train of thought.
Reinstalling iTunes should fix the major issue that might have gone wrong, perhaps your explaination points will disappear and everything will be peachy again.
But if they don't, you can open the XML file in iTunes Folder using a Text edit program to see what the common pathname is to the iTunes Music folder or where your content is located.
If you moved the itunes folder, it needs to go back.
I can't download iTunes to my Vista virtual machine to test it out right now because iTunes is down, so I can't verify the pathname, perhaps your issue and the iTunes being down are related somehow?
You don't want to import all your music again, but it's a option, but you lose all your playlists, that's what I'm trying to recover.
If oyu don't have a whole lot of playlists, then simply select all the explaimation point music and delete, select File from the menu and import your itunes folder again. -
How can I connect my ipod to a new computer without deleting all my music
I just got a brand new laptop and when I connected my ipod and iphone 4 it prompts to syns a delete everything. How can I avoid that. I tried using the manual setting, but once I press apply it asks again to sync and delete all my music. Is there any other way to accomplish this?
That's exactly the way it is designed to work.
When you attempt to sync your iDevice with a new computer/library, iTunes will wipe the contents of the device and replace it with the contents from the library on the new computer.
To avoid losing content, first copy or move the media from your old computer to your new computer. Once this is done, the iDevice can be synced without worrying about iTunes removing the content as it can be synced back. -
How can I delete all the music from my iPhone and reinstall it?
I am trying to delete all the music from my iPhone 5 and reinstall it. The names of some of the albums and the artists did not import correctly from my CDs. I went back into iTunes and made corrections, synced my phone and no changes were made to the music on my phone. And two of the albums (I only have albums, not individual songs) are duplicated on the phone, though they are not in my iTunes library.
I have gone into iTunes, selected the device at the top right corner, selected all the music that showed up in the window - gone to the Edit menu, selected "all" and then "delete." The list of tracks disappears from the device list. I then synced the phone again, and the albums are still on the phone. What am I missing, please? I've even shut the phone down and restarted it, synced it again, but nothing changes.
Help, please?Follow the instructions here or here; the first set of instructions may require a power source other than a computer's USB port, so you should have one of these before proceeding. Your iPod is a fourth generation model.

When I sync my ipod classic with iTunes it deletes all the music on my ipod
Hi everyone, I have an ipod classic 160GB and when I try to sync it with iTunes to put things like TV shows ect it deletes all the music off of my iPod (which is over 400 songs) so I have to put it all back on using another program and then when I try to use iTunes again it deletes everything. Sometimes when I put podcasts on it just deletes the music but not the podcasts, or it'll decide to the opposite. Recently it deleted all of my music and videos and just left the podcasts.
Your help is greatly appreciated,
thank youHello qz0rz213,
It would seem that iTunes has encountered or developed an issue in the process of trying to sync photos to your device. The best place to start would be removing the iPod Photo Cache (thus allowing for a new version to be created).
Note: Deleting this folder will not remove the original images from your library.

If the issue is not resolved by removing the iPod Photo Cache, the following article goes into further steps that can both help you determine the source of this trouble and eliminate it.
Symptoms
In certain situations, iTunes may display an alert or may be unable to sync photos to an iPod or iOS device. Examples include:
After updating iOS, iTunes displays an alert that there is not enough room to sync photos
This error appears: "The iPhone/iPod touch '[device name]' cannot be synced. The required file cannot be found."

Backing Up Music On Your Hard Drive...Is It A Matter Of Synching Or Wh
You see, before transferring my music to my player, I edit the mp3's on my hard dri've (for length, sound quality, etc.). Once I'm completely satisfied, then I'll transfer them to my unit. So, for all intents and purposes, the files that are on my player are exactly the same as they are on my hard dri've. That being said, is there really a need to synchronize my player to my computer? It would seem that it would just duplicate the files I already have and just take up extra space on my hard dri've.
Any thoughts would be appreciated, thanks.
By the way, I keep all my mp3's in a folder titled (appropriately enough) "My MP3's".It's actually a good idea to keep copies on your computer, in case something goes wrong with you player, and you need to RMA it, in which case you will lose all your music. St the very least, back your music up on CDs or DVDs. I made the mistake of deleting music after I transferred it to my mp3 player, and then ended up having to RMA it. Thankfully I had a partial backup on DVD, but I still lost a good portion of music.
