Deleting calendars in iCal

Thanks to a app that will remain nameless I have 98 calendars on my computer.  iCloud shows the correct number of calendars.  Is there a way to restore the desktop iCal from the iCloud iCal?  The thought of one by one right clicking to delete them all is disturbing.  Thanks.

As far as I know all you can do is go to View > Show Calender List Then Right click them and delete them one by one :/ Sorry If I do find another solution I will post it ASAP.

  • I can't delete calendars from iCal, they re-appear in a few moments. Also I can't add new entries. I have a backup on another  Mac which is working properly.

For the last 2 weeks iCal has not let me update or delete calendars. It continues to remind me about events in the past (about 10 days ago).
Also, Safari is not recording history, apart from today the last entry is 2 weeks ago.
Time and date is working OK.
    All software is up-to-date.

My problem is fixed now, thank you. It was caused by my changing the Boot Camp partition's 'RAID1' to 'RAID0'. If I hadn't done that, Boot Camp would still have been able to 'restore' back to the one partition. It was fixed with the help of Applecare by using a terminal and typing a command to erase the IP of the Macintosh disk (not the volume) as well as the IP of the Bootcamp partition (if I remember correctly), but then I had to restore the OS and all my applications and data etc which I had previously backed up using Time Machine. I haven't taken note of the exact command terminology used. It would be wise to speak to Applecare about this if possible.
Two words of warning, 1. According to the cause of this problem, it might be wise, after reinstalling the ops system to reinstall all extra applications one by one, manually, in case a similar problem arises again. Then manually copy back all data. Or the Mac user could use the Time Machine backup and then uninstall all the added apps then re-install them one by one manually. 2. Beware as after all this the user might not have the 'Recovery partition'. There is a small recovery partition (a few 100 Mb is size) which comes with all later Macs. After all this is done this tiny partition might not be there anymore and the user might have to re-install Mavericks again to get it back, or just install the upcoming update of Mavericks due in a month or so.

  • Delete calendar from ical

How do I delte a calendar from iCal.
I right click on it and the delete function is not an option.

When that calendar you want to delete is selected, you should be able to do so from the Edit menu.
    Good luck

  • Deleting calendars on iCal

    Hi All,
after updating my Mac, I now have a few hundreds calendars on iCal (all empty). I'm using and needing only one calendar. How do I get rid of those? I've asked Apple tech support and I was told to manually delete them, one by one, but it would take me hours. Is there a quick workaround for this?

    Hi,
Try this script, it removes calendars that do not have any events or todos. Copy the text into a new Applescript Editor window and press 'Run'. (You'll find Applescript Editor in Applications > Utilities)
I'd suggest you make a back-up before in case you don't like the results. From iCal's File menu select Export… then +iCal Archive...+ and save it.

    tell application "iCal"
repeat with myCalNum from (count of calendars) to 1 by -1
    set myCalendar to calendar myCalNum
if (count of events of myCalendar) + (count of todos of myCalendar) = 0 then
    try
set myName to name of myCalendar
    tell myCalendar to delete
    log "Calendar \"" & myName & "\" deleted."
    on error theErr
    log theErr
    end try
    end if
    end repeat
    end tell
Let me know how it goes.

  • Can't delete calendar in ical

I have a lion server running with ical (among other services). Migrating to lion got me the remeinders in the calendar directly and the reminders lists were the same as my calendars. That does make sense for some categories like Home or Work but I have a few more calendars e.g. for public holidays that are not really suitable for reminders.
Strange enough those seem to be containers for both reminders and events but when I delete one of them and recreate it for either of them it is limited to that application. So now I want to delete my public holidays calendar (and reminder list) and recreate it as calendar. Deleting some of the others worked but for this one I always get the error 403: CalDAVRemoveCalendarQueueableOperation. Also tried to log on to my web calendar and delete the list. It just hang.
    Any ideas why that happens?

The entries you are now seeing are held in a special Birthdays calendar that has been implemented in iOS4.
The Calendar gets its information from your Contacts on the iPhone.
It can be switched off by deselecting it in the Calendars page (top left button in the Calendars app)
The Mac also has a similar Birthdays Calendar that gets its info from the Apple Address Book and can be switched on/off as required (Find it under "Subscriptions" in the left hand pane of iCal, or in Preferences, General, Show Birthday Calendar)

  • How do I permanently delete calendars in ical?

  • Can't delete calendars or events from iCal

I'm trying to delete Calendars from iCal, but after I delete them, they reappear. I've tried deleting the calendars and calendar cache from the user library, but to no avail. In addition, when I try to change or delete an event, it ends up duplicating the event so that there is multiple copies of the same event on the same day. I've tried to find someone else who has had this problem, but came up empty. Any suggestions? Can I get rid of iCal and reinstall it somehow?
P.S. there are multiple users on this computer, but only one of them uses iCal.

    Good question.
You do not have to remove the entire directory. However, there are other caches besides the com.apple.ical directory that may be present that can impact iCal's performance. These directories are often created by non-Apple programs involved in syncing (Entourage, Pocket Mac, Blackberry software, Palm Desktop software, etc.)
The question is, which caches might be there for each unique computer setup and are they doing something to iCal? That takes a great deal of work which few people are willing to do (not to mention you have to know which folders are the culprits)
Cache files are re-generated once the program that uses them is launched. I have never personally encountered a program that stored any vital data in the cache. Caches are (in general) used to improve program performance of an application during use, not to store data.
For users that are concerned about their caches, removing ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.iCal/ is certainly an acceptable alternative (if not all encompassing).

  • How do you delete calendar groups in ical 5.0?

I downloaded os x lion, and when I went into ical, I can't seem to delete calendar groups I don't want. How do I do this? Thanks!

Click on the event, and use the delete key. Or click on the event, and choose iCal>Edit>Delete.
    Good luck.

  • HT4901 I accidently deleted a calendar in ical on my iphone5.  How do I retrieve the calendar and all its past/present/future events?

I am afraid to open ical on my iphone because I'm now in the vicinity of my Mac and I don't want all the events to delete from it.  Can anyone help me to retrieve the unintentional deleted calendar on my iphone?

About your only option would be to try to recover it from your iCloud backup.  There's a user tip here on how to recover contacts from an iCloud backup: https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-4841.  Just substitute calendar for contacts and the process would be the same.  The key for this being successful is to disconnect your router from the internet (step 4), allowing you to turn off calendar syncing with iCloud and keep the calendar on your iPhone before it is overwritten by the iCloud calendar.
If you have any other calendars on your Mac be sure to back them up before trying this using File>Export>Export.

  • ICal Help Needed! (cannot delete calendars/events on computer and iPhone)

    Hi Everyone,
I need some help with my iCal. Background info:
    -Currently have an iPhone 3GS
    -Using Google Calendar
-Use separate calendar on iPhone (Pocket Informant)
-Wanted to sync all event from Outlook to Google Calendar to iCal to two calendars on phone (this became an issue with alarms so began attempting to delete all events from the original iPhone calendar that I do not want to use)
I started by syncing my Outlook (one way) with my Google Calendar, which syncs with the iCal on computer and Pocket Informant on iPhone, as well as iCal on iPhone. Duplicate alarms started occurring on the phone (PI and iCal). I then attempted to delete all events from the iCal on the computer. One calendar remains, one that I subscribed to from Yahoo Sports. I have tried everything to delete this calendar, but it seems impossible. After I sync the phone, the subscribed calendar shows up as well as birthdays and one calendar from my Google Calendar, on my phone.
So, the issues, and what I would eventually like to see:
    1. I would like all events cleared from iCal on computer (currently just subscribed calendar that will not delete)
    2. I would like to delete all events from calendar on phone (subscribed calendar, birthdays, and one calendar from Google) *I cannot even delete these events by hand on my phone.
    3. In the end I would like to just continue to sync Outlook with Google which syncs with PI and then do nothing with iCal (on phone and computer) *Well really I would like events from Google synced with iCal on computer, but this doesn't seem feasible so I would settle with not using it at all.
The only thing I can think of to do at this point is to delete iCal, but I am not even sure this would correct the calendar issue on my phone as I am unable to delete that and the sync does not seem to be working correctly.
Any help on this would be much appreciated!
    Thank you in advance!!

The edit feature was working correctly with the calendars and stopped. Performed a sync through iTunes removing syncing preferences first. Did not resolve the issue. I am considering restoring the iphone.

  • ISync deleted a calendar from iCal

I'm very new to the Mac world. My PC died at Thanksgiving and I'm still getting used to my new iMac. I am using iSync to sync between my new iMac and my very old Handspring Visor Prism. Things are going remarkably well except now that I have moved all my (11 years worth) calendar appts/events to the iMac, I'd like to stop storing and syncing them to the Visor, since I'm worried that it will fail if it gets too full.
My bright idea was to create a separate calendar with all events from 97-08 and then use the "home" calendar from 2009 going forward. So on my next sync, I only checked "Home" to sync so that there would be less on my Visor. Doing this, iSync successfully synchronized the Home calendar (w/my newer events), but deleted my "old" calendar from iCal. I don't understand why that happened. I thought unselecting a calendar in iSync would do the same thing as the "Do Nothing" option in HotSync (literally, don't sync, but also, don't delete!).
Is there any way to keep some events in an iCal calendar but not on your handheld device?
    Thanks,
    Tracy

The deletion of your unchecked iCal calendar would or should have only occurred if you first deleted the the matching calendar on your Palm device prior to the next synchronization event, and did not opt to reset the framework as described below. The appropriate 'reaction' of the Sync Services framework on your machine is to delete matching calendar event and task information in your truth database, and distribution those deletion changes to all other synchronized applications, devices and servers.
If you had simply unchecked the calendar in your drop-down iSync device configuration pane then reset the framework using the option in the iSync Preferences… dialog to do so and subsequently overwritten the contents of your Palm device—as opposed to merging data with it—your calendar would have remained in iCal but matching data would have been removed from the Palm device.
Whenever you seek to make a substantial change such as you did, you should back up your iCal and Address Book records using the built-in options in each application to do so, BEFORE you next execute a synchronization event. In that way, it's easy to 'recover' data when an unexpected result occurs.

  • Ical keeps adding and deleting calendars!?

    Hi
we are sharing one .mac account for ical, with same login between 2 people.
ever since upgrading to tiger, and maybe before but i'm not sure, ical keeps on thinking events have changed and i get a pop up window that says for example, 11 calendars added, 6 deleted, 657 appointments modified.
    WHAT IS GOING ON!!?
    nothing has changed
we do have timezones activated, but i don't understand why we are getting this issue. help please!

I kept searching and found a solution from Kerry at http://groups.google.com/group/microsoft.public.mac.office.entourage/browse_thre ad/thread/a758c477739cdab3/5b609b739511232e#5b609b739511232e
    Thanks!
This worked for me. Of course, it means choosing to update either the Calendar or my Contacts but for now, this is better than the mess I was having. Here is Kerry's solution:
*The best thing to do is sync only one module, in my case its Calendar as this is the thing I change all the time whereas I rarely change contacts.
    1. Go into Entourage PREFERENCES > SYNC SERVICES > UNCHECK SYNC SERVICES
    2. Back up your main Entourage identity and iCal.
    3. Open and Run iSync.
    4. Go into iSync prefs and reset sync history.
    5. Restore the iCal calendar from the backup. This resets sync services.
    6. Delete the Entourage calendar in iCal (this will avoid dups).
    7. Go to Entourage and in prefs in sync services enable (check)
Calendar and when the popup appears choose Merge then OK. Entourage
will recreate an Entourage calendar in iCal and populate it with its
information (this takes a few seconds depending on the size of the
calendar. Sync should work both ways now.
Note: I would not turn on Contacts as this will cause sync services to become unstable again.

  • Deleting and Publishing ical Calendar with AppleScript

I have a question I hope somebody can help me with.
Thanks to a previous manager, we're stuck with Microsoft Project for our product release scheduled management. It has no capability for exporting the information into an iCal format for publication on our web dav server (so that sales reps, programmers, and techs can view it). I've made a BBEdit script that can take a tab delimited export of the crucial information from Project and make it into an importable iCal file.
I'd like to find a way to delete the old iCal calendar, import the replacement and publish it using the same script. Unfortunately my Applescript skills are minimal; the BBEdit recorder has made it so easy to do most of what I need that I haven't had to learn all the rules for making a script.
If anyone knows if this can be done, and how, and could help, I'd really appreciate it.

    Alf,
I don't see a list of available calendars, so I think one needs the name of the calendar to access it. Is this correct?
You are partially correct, the only protection that you have in this case is the fact that anyone who wishes to access a specific published calendar has to either know or guess the username/calendar_name combination.
According to Apple: If your iCal calendars contain private or confidential information, you should not publish them on .Mac. Anyone who knows your calendar's URL can subscribe to it using iCal or view it using a web browser.
In order to prevent unauthorized access Publishing a password-protected iCal calendar to iDisk, offers a viable secure alternative.
    ;~)

  • TS1906 How do I delete a calendar in iCal?

I no longer own a Mac 4G tower as the product info suggests but am using and iMac with Lion. I can't seem to delete unneeded calendars and can't print a birthday calendar with only birthday info including. I am becomimg increasingly frustrated with the limitations of this calendar. I have used a Palm Pilot calendar for a good many years and I think Apple can do better than Palm.

I have the same issue. I have even deleted my icloud account, deleted the calendar from my ipad, created a new icloud calendar and seconds later the deleted calendar is back.
Really, it is not possible to delete a calendar from your iPad?
