Dell Inspiron 3847 and MX100 256GB SSD

I bought several new Insprion 3847 and was planning on upgrading with MX100 256GB SSDs.  I'm getting BSOD after cloning the hard drives on all of them with any SSD I try.  Can anyone confirm this is a known incompatibility or suggest a fix?  I've used another brand SSD in one computer with expected results. Thanks,Micah

Hi Micah,
First of I'm sorry to hear that you're having issues with your SSD.  I have looked in to the Inspiron 3847 and we do recommend the MX100 as compatible with that system.
It sounds like you have more than one MX100 and one Inspiron 3847,  is that correct:?  Can you confirm what you used to clone the SSD's?
You said that you're getting BSOD errors, is this happening as soon as your turn the system on or is it random?  Do you have the MX100 installed internally in the system?
I will get this looked in to further for you so if you could confirm as much of the above as possible.  Once I have that information I can look in to exactly what has caused the issues you're having.

  • Installed a RAID card in my Dell Inspiron 3847. However, the RAID BIOS does not show up and I cannot install Windows 7 to it.

    That is basically a summary of the problem The Dell Inspiron 3847 does not come with RAID, so I tried installing a PCI-express 1x RAID card. However, the RAID BIOS never shows up. The HDDs show up when I install the RAID controller driver in Windows 7 setup, but I cannot install Windows 7. I am using an IOCrest SY-PEX40008 RAID card with a Silicon Image Sil3124 chipset.
    I tried pressing the hotkeys for the RAID BIOS listed in the card's manual, but it seems to just cause bootup to freeze. BIOS also does not seem to detect the RAID card HDDs as boot options.

    %AppData% is the name of an environment variable.
    On XP that variable points to C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Application Data\
    "Application Data" in XP/Win2K and "AppData" in Vista/Windows 7 are hidden folders, use %APPDATA% in the File name field

  • Dell Inspiron 15R and Photoshop CS5?

    Currently looking at buying a DELL inspiron 15R for my 16yr old daughter.  She is interested in graphic design and will be studing it next year so also getting Photoshop CS5.
    Specs I'm looking at are:
    Intel® Core™ i3-370M Processor (2.4Ghz, 4Threads, 3M cache)
    15.6 Widescreen HD WLED Glossy Display with TrueLife™ (1366x768)
    4GB RAM
    500GB 7200RPM Hard Drive
    Intel® HD Graphics
    Does this laptop have the necessary 'grunt' for photoshop.  It exceeds system requirement for photoshop CS5. but specs are usually slower than reality.
    SHould i update the chip to an i5?  Intel Core i5 460M (2.53GHz/3MB cache)
    or alternatively should I change the video card to a dedicated card option ATI Mobility Radeon™ HD 5650 - 1GB?
    Thanks in Advance.

    From my personal experience, I wouldn't go for an Integrated card. This is one of the most important components for Photoshop, so invest in a decent graphics card (ATI or NVidia). It doesn't have to be a really exepensive one - I have been using ATI Radeon with 256MB of RAM on my Dell Studio for almost two years and it still rocks! (even when I work with 3D in Ps CS5 Extended).
    I would also invest in more RAM (this can be added easily - I bought extra 4GB as my Studio came with 3GB).
    I wouldn't worry about the processor - I'm on Intel Core 2 Duo - and it works very very well, it's very quick which is very important as I'm training Photoshop.
    I hope this helps.

  • Suspend with Dell Inspiron 1720 and Nvidia closed source drivers

    Hey all! I'm really liking arch linux. That being said, it would be nice if I could get suspend to ram (or disk) working on my laptop (dell Inspiron 1720 with Nvidia geforce 8800m) .
    I followed the directions on the wiki for pm-ultils. When I try pm-suspend, my devices like mice and external HD's shut off, but all I get is a black screen with a blinking undercursor - the system does not appear to really suspend. Nothing will bring the system back, and I have to hard reboot.
    I tried insatlling uswsusp and followed the directions for that, but get the same result. Here is my /var/log/pm-suspend.log:
    Initial commandline parameters:

    Wed Mar 11 15:17:59 PDT 2009: performing suspend
    I have not put anything my /etc/pm/config.d/ because the wiki was pretty vague and Im not sure what to do there.
    I tried using uswsusp s2ram but that does not work. I added uresume to my /etc/mkinitcpio.conf and rebuilt the image to no avail.
    s2ram -n shows this:
    Machine matched entry 99:
    sys_vendor = 'Dell Inc.'
    sys_product = 'Inspiron 1720 *'
    sys_version = ''
    bios_version = ''
    Fixes: 0x0
    This machine can be identified by:
    sys_vendor = "Dell Inc."
    sys_product = "Inspiron 1720 "
    sys_version = ""
    bios_version = "A08"
    See http://suspend.sf.net/s2ram-support.html for details.
    If you report a problem, please include the complete output above.
    which looks to me like I am whitelisted. Am I missing something here? Should I be using one of the DM's power managers? It would be cool just to be able to suspend with a command but if I have to use something else no problem as long as it works.
    Running out of ideas, hope you guys can help. Plus the hard rebooting is wrecking my drive, I can see the non-contiguous percent rise each time.
    Thanks.

    I know this is an old thread and i shouldn't be posting but i have been looking EVERYWHERE for anybody that has successfully installed an 8800M inside of an inspiron 1720... i was just wondering how you went about it???
    Thanks.

  • ITunes isn't recognizing my iPhone 4 or letting it sync, any ideas of what's going on? I have a Dell Inspiron 15, and the latest update of iTunes and Windows 8.1....

    When I plug my iPhone into my computer iTunes doesn't even recognize that there is a device there. It's not the USB because my computer is letting me import all of my pictures and videos. Is there something wrong with the newest iTunes/Windows, or is it my phone?

    Take a look at this link, http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1369

  • Dell Inspiron 4150 and acpi

    I've got my 2.6.6 kernel with acpi in it.  I can use either
    echo 1 > /proc/acpi/sleep
    or
    echo -n "standby" > /proc/power/state
    and the laptop will go into standby mode.  I can also do the other modes availble.  However, I my laptop will not "wake up".  When I press the power button to recover, the lights come back on and my wireless nic lights back up.  The screen even turns back on, but its all black.  Any ideas.

    Check ACPI4Linux's website for info on the types of sleep states defined under the acpi spec.  To determine what sleep states your notebook supports run cat /proc/acpi/sleep. As for actually getting stuff to wake up, note that  linux's ACPI support, especially for S3, is sort of buggy atm.  Look in the kernel sources Documentation/power/tricks.txt for some troubleshooting tips and take it from there.

  • Dell Inspiron 3647 and ATT U-verse?

    i just got a new Inspriron 3647 desktop and connected to ATT u-verse. I now find the harddrive seems to be running almost full time. I hear it as well as the indicator light on front blinks. often.
    So the questions are this:
    Is it normal, if not which is the more likely cause?

    I am not sure what you would hope to gain by converting to the Uverse router, since the AirPort Extreme delivers better performance.
    You would also have to go through the process of reconfiguring all of your devices to connect to the Uverse network.
    This seems to be one of those cases where the fact that you can do something does not mean that you should do something.
    Maybe we are missing something that we do not detect in your post, but when things are working, leaving well enough alone makes a lot of sense for most users.

  • Inspiron 3847 losing video output to HP w2207h via HDMI and Analog upon Restart

    I recently purchased an Inspiron 3847 and hooked it up to an HP w2207h monitor by VGA and HDMI. Twice I have installed new software and upon restart I lose all video output. The computer is running, but I am unable to get video to my monitor to use it.
    I am not sure where to go from here, as I have hooked up my laptop to the monitor also by VGA and HDMI and the monitor works fine?

    * Turn the Inspiron 3847 and the W2207H off
    * Disconnect the VGA cable from both the Inspiron 3847 and the W2207H
    * This leaves only the HDMI cable connecting the Inspiron 3847 to the W2207H
    * Turn the Inspiron 3847 and the W2207H on. Does anything appear on the W2207H? If yes, allow it to boot all the way into windows
    * When done, restart the Inspiron 3847. What happens?

  • [SOLVED] Function Keys Problem On Dell Inspiron N5010

    Yesterday I bought a new laptop (Dell Inspiron N5010) and immediately installed Arch Linux on it. But when I launched the installation framework, I needed to use fdisk to partition my drive manually and to open another tty, ctrl + alt + f2 or up to f7, none of them worked. When I use f4 or f5 for example, it changes the brightness of the screen cause these keys have icons on them which represent the brightness control. So I quitted, took care of that fdisk issue and got back, installed Arch Linux successfully. When launched in GNOME 3, nothing was changed. It still uses f1, f2, ... and so on as "just function keys" without using "Fn" key. It's fine somehow cause my system automatically detected those keys, I can use every single function of my keyboard. But without using Fn key, I can't actually use any fx key for my own use. For example, I can't use Tilda anymore cause when I use only f1, it tries to open monitor control stuff.
    So... any ideas?
    Edit: It seems that this problem is all about Arch Linux. A friend of mine has the same laptop and he has just tried Mint Debian RC and function keys worked properly. So, there's a problem and it seems it's related to Arch Linux (or maybe Xorg version, somehow?).

    xdunlapx wrote:The function key on my dell laptop was set to the F keys, meaning you have to hit the function key and then an F key to activate the F key. I switched it in the bios so I don't have to hit the function key to activate the F keys. So I would have had to hit Fn+Ctrl-Alt-F1 for example to get to TTY 1. Now since i switched it off in the bios All I have to do is hit Ctrl-Alt-F1 to get to the terminal. But in order to turn off wifi from the F key (for example) I have to hit Fn+F2. It's switched.
    I can't tell you how this was helpful. I've never noticed that there was an option in BIOS's Advanced menu for this. I updated it as "Function Key" and it solved my problem, thanks.

  • Dell Inspiron 1520 - disk problem

    Hi. I have Dell Inspiron 1520 and even if I set hdparm -B 254 /dev/sda or 255, disk still makes clicking noises. Hdparm command fixed that in ubuntu, here it doesn't. Is there any other way to stop clicking? Ty.

    Disabling disk power mangement in the BIOS worked for me. If that doesn't to the trick, is the hdparm command getting run at every boot (appending it to /etc/rc.local is an easy way)?

    Wow, it looks like you have quite a bit of stuff on IRQ 10. My guess would be that another device is using that IRQ and not letting the 6024E use IRQ 10. Fortunately, it looks like you should have plenty of other resources available, so I would try to configure your card on another IRQ. Hopefully you can go to the properties on that card in the device manager and try to manualy set the IRQ to one that isn't being used. Good luck.

  • Airport Extreme, Dell inspiron 1720, is it possible?

    After many, many hours of troubleshooting with many parties, I'm still not there.
    In a nutshell:
    - I can install Airport Extreme (with latest firmware and utility updates)and it shows up "connected" on my Dell Inspiron 1720 and even on a laptop in another room.
    - BUT, I cannot connect to the internet on either one of these computers. (If I connect an ethernet cord directly to my cable modem I can get on just fine). I called my ISP and asked for a reset. They did it twice, still doesn't work!
    - There is nothing wrong with the Airport Extreme hardware, a tech friend tried it at another location and it was fine.
    - I've installed airport extreme several times, reset it, did all of the requisite recommended unplugging along the way.
    - I've contacted Apple support and he recommended that I need a USB wireless adapter (didn't try that yet). I've had tech colleagues do some troubleshooting and they concluded that it needed a reset from the ISP. I contacted my ISP support and they claim they cannot do anything else.
    - This is not my first wireless network. I had an older Linksys router that was inconsistent. It was recommended that I replaced it with Airport Extreme.
    I've invested time and money into this effort. I'm wondering if I should abandon Airport Extreme and try another wireless router. All advice is greatly appreciated!

    Thank you.
    Please try the following:
    o Power-down the modem, AEBSn, and computer(s).
    o While powered-down, disconnect the AEBSn from the modem and computer(s), and then, perform a "factory default" reset on the AEBSn.
    o Once the AEBSn resets, power it down.
    o Reconnect the AEBSn to the modem and to at least one computer to any of the available LAN ports on the AEBSn.
    o Power-up the modem; wait at least 10-15 minutes.
    o Power-up the AEBSn; wait at least 5-10 minutes.
    o Power-up the connected PC.
    The PC should now get Internet access. Please post back your results.

  • Connecting a printer to a Dell inspiron 530s

     I just bought a Dell Inspiron 530S and cannot figure out how to connect a printer to it. There are no connections resembling the one on my old dell. thanks for any help

    Newer computers do not have the parallell ports anymore, very few do, and thats in the case of Lenovo only on a very special request basis. Add on PCI Cards with Paralell ports do exist, but its a very fat chance your old printer is not supported on Vista, even with the use of such as device.
    Save your money on add on cards and purchase a new printer instead.
