Deploy Windows XP Embedded using MDT?

Is there a way to deploy Windows XP Embedded (XPe) using MDT? If so, I could use step-by-step guidance on how to do so.
Currently we created the XPe wim file from our XPe computer but when we import it to the Deployment Share it is not recognized.

Which version of MDT are you running, Windows XP embedded is not supported by mdt 2012 or 2013

  • Migrate from Windows XP x86 to Windows 7 x64 using MDT 2013

    Hello everybody,
We are migrating our Windows XP(x86) workstations to Windows 7 (x64). We are aware of the necessary gymastics tu perform on USMT in a way to run the scanstate with an older version of USMT in Windows XP, and then run the LoadState in Windows 7 environnement
    with the newest one.
The problem is that I cannot run MDT TaskSequences (referring to a X64 windows 7 Image) in Windows XP (full OS environnement). Can anyone please tell me if there is a way to get arround this ? is there any method to execute this migration ?
    Thank you in advance.

    Hello,
You can use usmt with mdt. It's necessary to modify the script mdt

  • Error while deploying Windows 2008 R2 using SCCM 2012 R2

I am trying to deploy Window 2008 R2 image (captured from a  reference machine) using SCCM 2012 R2. I have integrated MDT 2013 with SCCM 2012 R2 and created an MDT task sequence. During deployment, towards the end of Applying image.wim, it gives me
an error that task sequence failed with the error code 0x80070002. And then the system reboots. After reboot, I am able to login to the Windows Server. It seems to work fine, but there are no applications etc installed. Also the _SMSTS log folder is still
present in  the C drive. And in the smsts.log file, i can see errors like failed to copy unattend.xml file. Please help me.

    Hi,
Error code 0x80070002, it means the system cannot find file specified.

  • Copy Shortcuts to the Windows 7 Taskbar using MDT

I would like to copy items to the Windows 7 taskbar for all users, and do this during deployment as part of a task sequence. Does anyone know if this can be done. I found a script called pinItem.vbs, but do not know if it could be done from a TS, nor
    how it would be.

    Hi Scott,
    I would recommend this script:
    http://gallery.technet.microsoft.com/ScriptCenter/b66434f1-4b3f-4a94-8dc3-e406eb30b750/
It's a poweshell module that allows you to pin, items to both the task bar and start menu during your reference image build task sequence.
It's very simple to use this with MDT 2012 U1. Simply place the module in the folder {deploymentshare}\Tools\Modules\PinnedApplications\PinnedApplications.psm1
Then for example create a powershell "script" that looks something like this:
    Import-Module PinnedApplications.psm1
    Set-PinnedApplication -Action PinToStartMenu -FilePath "C:\Users\Administrator\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Internet Explorer.lnk"
    Set-PinnedApplication -Action PinToTaskbar -FilePath "C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Microsoft Office\Microsoft Outlook 2010.lnk"
Since the module is placed in the Tools\Modules folder, MDT can find this module easily during deployment without needing to specify a path where the module can be found.
Now the most important part of everything.
Whether it's SCCM or MDT that you use to deploy your custom image, you need to edit the unattend.xml of the task sequence that is used to
    >>>Deploy<<<
the image. The default user profile is copied upon first boot after the image is applied, and not during the sysprep execution of your task sequence before your image is captured.
The CopyProfile setting is not enabled by default with the unattend.xml files created by MDT or SCCM, you will need to use WSIM to add this entry, more info can be found here:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff716261.aspx
Dispite the article saying you cannot pin applications to start menu and task bar (and this is normally true if you do these tasks manually, then these items will not persist in the new user profile), this scripted method actually does work.
    Kind regards,

  • How do i install windows on mavericks using MDT?

I have no problems installing 7 thru dvd or usb, but cannot get it to install using MDT

Well, what happens when you try?  Are all the Mac drivers installed?  Where does it fail?  What specifi steps are you taking to accomplish this?
I suggest you stick with searching Google and the TechNet forums, as while we're all Mac users here, not everyone uses Windows, let alone MDT.  And certainly nobody here would know anything about your MDT, WDS or SCCM environment.

  • Deploying Windows 7/8 with MDT or SCCM over a WiFi connection

Yeah I did search on Google as well :) Seems lot of work :P
I got some laptops with faulty ehtenet adapters and though to give try with wifi
    Anyway thinks for feedback

A quick google on pxe wifi boot shows a ton of problems.
You could possibly kick it off with a USB stick, but you'd still have the ssid and password to contend with.
If you got to that point, it would be like watching a lake freeze.
USB-Ethernet dongle would be a better idea.

This generally means inaccessible boot device. How are you partitioning the drive and applying the image?

I would recommended using Windows System Image Manager (SIM) instead. When you import the WIM file into SIM, you get access to the Embedded Features.

    STMicroelectronics System tpmdrv.inf 1.00.04.15(1)
    STMicroelectronics System tpmdrv.inf 1.00.04.15(2)
Can some one help me out..thank you very much

If you are still getting the same error, then it would suggest that the drivers weren't removed from the image.
IF this is the WInPE image generated by MDT, then be sure that you run a *Full* update of the deployment share.

  • How can i using MDT 2010 to deploy multiple partitions Windows 7 image?

    Hello,
I am planning using MDT as a deploy windows 7 solutions. My Windows 7 is setup on parition 1 "C:" and users profile on parition 2 "D". I am already capture WIM for each paritions. How can i using MDT 2010 to deploy multiple partitions for Windows 7
    image? together
    Thanks

Having the users folder on a separate partitions is a bad idea because the Windows Setup was not really designed for it, it's more of a afterfix. In addition to that the deployment solutions in general have problem dealing with multiple partions.
Put it this way - The big warning text in the WAIK documentation about redirecting the users folder to another drive is there for a reason. It will break future offline servicing.
It doesn't mean it can't be done, it just means it will take you three times (at least) longer to setup/troubleshoot your deployment solution, and you will be in a world of pain the next time you want to re-image the machine.
This quote from a good friend of mine (Andreas Hammarskjold) describes it very well:
Generally I would always recommend to only have ONE partition these days. Going down the route of making multiple partitions is like having multiple wives/girlfriends/lovers… it’s all fun and games for a while but ends with disaster

  • Synaptics Pointting device Driver installs on an Desktop machine while deploying Windows 7X64 using MDT 2013 Update 1

I am deploying Windows 7X64 on Dell OptiPlex 990 and other desktops. Deployment goes fine but the Synaptics pointing device driver gets installed after the deployment is complete. Also after applying operating system I get a prompt to Run the Synaptics Pointing
Driver setup twice. If I don't click yes to install the TS wont proceed. Its gets worse when I uninstall the Synaptics Device Driver from Appwiz.Cpl and reboot the machine the Keyboard fails with the error Code:29. Above is the screenshot of what I get after
Applying Operating System step. Thanks in Advance.

I have also encountered this in MDT 2013 Lite Touch deployments for Windows 8.1 and I am researching it.
I noted that the Synaptics driver was installed for "SmBus" in Device Manager for a motherboard with an Intel 7 Cxxx Series chipset (Dell Optiplex desktop).  The HardwareID's are all PCI\VEN8086...
We use %Model% in our task sequence and have a folder for each model such as "Optiplex 7010" in Out-of-Box Drivers.

  • Microsoft Updates after Windows 7 Deployment using MDT 2010 Update 1

    Hello,
After I deploy Windows 7 using MDT 2010 Update 1, i'm prompted to download and install updates. Updates which were installed prior to the capture process. During the capture process, does something reset Windows Update and makes it think the updates were
    not installed?
My process of building a custom image is as follows:
    1. PXE boot and kick-off a build task sequence (install OS + drivers + soe applications). (protectmypc = 3 in unattend.xml)
    2. Download and install all Microsoft Updates, configure the OS, configure third-party applications.
    3. Map a network drive to my deployment share, run litetouch.vbs and kick-off a capture task sequence.
    4. PXE boot and kick-off a deployment task sequence. (copy profile = true, protectmypc = 1 in unattend.xml)

I'm getting updates but they are new updates. We have updates turned off through Group Policy and after an image is deployed it is attempting to install updates which should not be installed through Windows. I also have the protectmypc setting set to 3
and have updates turned off before capture. Something is searching for updates and during the deployment process and I need to find out how to stop this from happening. Someone has to know where these updates are coming from.
