Deploying EJBs in a web app

Hi,
I'm trying to deploy some EJBs in a WebLogic WebApp. I have it all packaged
properly, and when I start the server, I can see that my EJBs are bound to
the JNDI names. For example:
Mon Jan 08 22:48:58 PST 2001:<I> <WebAppServletContext-myapp> binding
web.xml EJB reference '<ejb_name>' to JNDI name '<ejb_name>'
<ejb_name> is of course the name of the bean that is being deployed.
The perplexing thing is that once it's running, I cannot bind to the bean
name that I was successfully able to bind to when the beans were deployed
using the 'weblogic.ejb.deploy' property in the weblogic.properties file.
I'm assuming that I'm missing a name prefix or something, but I cannot find
any mention of anything like that in the docs.
Here is a partial stack trace from the exception that I get when trying to
access the beans:
javax.naming.NameNotFoundException: '<ejb_name>'; remaining name
'<ejb_name>'

Any help of hints greatly appreciated.

OK, here is some more detail about what I'm trying to do:
I would like to deploy my entire app under a single directory tree, and
ultimately as a single jar/war/ear/whatever.You can do this with an ear file, but only WLS 6 supports EAR files.
WLS 5.1 does not.
Ah. I guess I'll have to wait until WLS6. Thank for the info.
Dhiren
During development, I would
also like to minimize updates to my weblogic.properties file as other
developers add stuff (new EJBs, etc.) to the code
base.In WLS 5.1 you can deploy and ejb either through the weblogic.properties
or by using the weblogic.deploy command-line or EJBDeployerTool GUI
tools.
In WLS 6, we allow you to copy a ear/jar/war into the applications
directory, and the server will automatically recognize the new file and
deploy it.
On the surface, web
apps seem like the way to go.The EJB stuff that you are seeing if for ejb-lins or references. These
are references to EJBs but not the actual EJB code. EJBs cannot be
deployed in WAR files.
-- Rob
Everything is under one directory and the lib
directory is automagically added to the classpath. The "Writing Web
Applications"
document
(http://www.weblogic.com/docs51/classdocs/webappguide.html#dd_contextparams)
describes a directory structure that seemingly allows you to do all ofthis.
There are also a couple of files (web.xml and
weblogic.xml) in which you can specify EJB information, such as the JNDI
name, etc. Presumably, this EJB information is for EJBs deployed withthe
web app. I created the described directory structure and the two xmlfiles
and deployed the whole thing as a web app via a'weblogic.httpd.webApp.xxx'
property in the weblogic.properties file. The server starts up fine, and I
get the following messages to the startup log for each EJB I'm trying to
deploy:
Tue Jan 09 00:10:23 PST 2001:<I> <WebAppServletContext-myapp> binding
web.xml EJB reference '<ejb_name>' to JNDI name '<ejb_name>'
This is what led me to assume that the server is deploying the beans.But,
of course, when I try to access the beans, I get the exception shownbelow.

multiple WAR and/or JAR files.
Can you clarify what you are trying to do?

  • EJB Client in Web App

    Hello All,
    I have an ear file containing a war for a web app and a jar for an ejb. I am trying to instantiate the EJB in my web app (war file). My question is how does the web app know about the interfaces from the EJB:
    I want to call the local interface from the bean. For example in the client:
    Context initialContext = new InitialContext();
    AccountHome accountHome = (AccountHome)
    initialContext.lookup(java:comp/env/ejb/accounts);
    How does the client know about the AccountHome Interface. Do I actually have to have a package in my webapp that defines the interface AccountHome?

    The interfaces have to be in the classpath, of course. JAR them up and put them in the WEB-INF/lib.
    Access them using JNDI:

    Hi,
    I searched a lot and find there is no way to achieve this goal. As a workaround, you can deploy vCards in Outlook and view in OWA. Thanks for your understanding.

    Hi,
    According to your description, my understanding is that the Remote Event Receiver sometimes not fire when you create a new sub site.
    I suggest you can try to debug the remote event receiver using Azure Service Bus to find if there is something wrong cause the remote event receiver not fire.
    Here is a detailed article for your reference:

    Since all of the Jersey jars are now in WEB-INF/lib, I am assuming this might have something to do with either missing information in the web.xml or the weblogic.xml, but not sure..
    Has anyone here ever created and deployed a JAX-RS web app to weblogic? I am not sure what to try next to fix this. Thanks for any assistance.

    I was able to fix this part of my deployment problem by including the Jersey jars in the WEB-INF/lib directory.
    Although I have gotten further, now I have a second deployment problem that I will attempt to fix before creating a new post!

  • (Re)Deploying web apps under [/] on SJSAS PE8

    I need some help on deploying web app under root []of the default virtual server.
    The problem is when specifying "Default Web Module" for the virtual servers I guess...
    How can I use asadmin or Ant task to deploy a directory under / ?
    Is it possible to use asadmin to specify virtual server's "Default Web Module" without restarting it.
    The optimal goal is to have ability to deploy/redeploy/undeploy a web app under / via ant task without restarting the domain itself....
    How can I accomplish this under SJSAS PE8?
    Any help on this topic is appreciated...

    You may want to look at the responses in this thread:
    http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jsp?forum=136&thread=529445&tstart=0&trange=50
    This thread may also be helpful:
    http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jsp?forum=136&thread=526094&tstart=0&trange=15
    Note:
    If the "redirect" that happens when you try to access the "docroot" of the admin instance is acceptable behavior, you may want to look at the differences between the 'server' and __asadmin Virtual Server.
    While you can do that with any text editor, I would suggest that you use the admin console app to do this.
    By deleting the docroot property and setting the default web module property you may be able to get the behavior you want.
    You will have to deploy the web app, with a context-root that is NOT / and restart the app server.
    You should be able to redeploy your web app "normally" after that, though....

  • [UNSOLVED] deploy ejb-jsf application to jboss

    I have developed a very simple web application with jdev 10.1.3.1 j2ee edition (no adf). The application uses ejb 3.0 and jsf technology.
    The application follows the pattern of the ‘Java EE tutorial’ at this url:
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/obe/JavaEE_tutorial_10131/index.htm ,
    but it is much simpler and I don’t use security mechanisms.
    For instance I use a session façade.
    The application has two projects: Model and ViewController. To deploy the application I created an ejb jar deployment profile for the model project and a war deployment profile for the ViewController. Then I created a new ‘Deployment’ project with an ear deployment profile to assemble the ejb jar and war deployment profiles. In this way I was able to deploy to standalone oc4j.
    Now I want to deploy to jboss 4.0.4 GA, I mapped the jboss connection within jdev and selected ‘deploy to jboss’. The ear is transferred to the correct folder, but the application folder is not generated and the jboss log shows at least one error. As you can see below, it seems it expects the local-home tag for the session façade, but I deleted it as suggested in the tutorial.
    I really need help on this topic, thank you.

  • Calling EJB 3.1 deployed in Glassfish 3.1 from  a web app in Tomcat7

    I have a EJB 3.1 bean deployed in Glassfish 3.1.1 server. I want to call this bean from a remote web client deployed in Tomcat 7. The EJB class and its remote interface is as follows ...
    Remote Interface -
    @Remote
    public interface MyEJBRemote
    public String sayHello();
    EJB Bean -
    @Stateless
    public class MyEJB implements MyEJBRemote
    public String sayHello()
    return "Hello EJB Client. Hope everything worked just fine.";
    In the remote client I have the following code
    Properties props = new Properties();
    props.setProperty("java.naming.factory.initial", "com.sun.enterprise.naming.SerialInitContextFactory");
    props.setProperty("java.naming.factory.url.pkgs", "com.sun.enterprise.naming");
    props.setProperty("java.naming.factory.state", "com.sun.corba.ee.impl.presentation.rmi.JNDIStateFactoryImpl");
    props.setProperty("org.omg.CORBA.ORBInitialHost", "localhost");
    props.setProperty("org.omg.CORBA.ORBInitialPort", "3700");
    InitialContext ic = new InitialContext(props);
    MyEJBRemote myEJBREmote = (MyEJBRemote)ic.lookup("java:global/MyEJB-1/MyEJB!com.dw.ejb.MyEJBRemote");
    Now the problem is with the last line of code. In Eclise this line of code is marked as error as the MyEJBRemote class is not there in the client project (the web app going to be deployed in tomcat 7). So where do I get the client jar generated from the deployed EJB to include in the client project ? Is there any way to generate this jar file.
    I tried using the glassfish command
    asadmin deploy generatermistubs retrieve . MyEJB.jar
    But glassfish didn't not generate any MyEJB-client.jar file. I tried a lot of times but without any success. I read up many forums. In one of them, it was mentioned that from EJB 3.1 glassfish does not generate the client stubs.
    So does that mean that one cannot use remote clients from EJB 3.1 in Glasssfish anymore ? Because the client project will never compile without the MyEJB-client.jar .

    You don't have to generate anything, you need the business interface class in your client application (MyEJBRemote in this case). One way to do that is to put the business interfaces in a separate jar and link that jar in both your client and server projects. The glassfish 3 FAQ documents the need to include the business interface class in your client application:
    http://glassfish.java.net/javaee5/ejb/EJB_FAQ.html#StandaloneRemoteEJB
    Another option is to turn the EJB into a JAX-WS webservice, which can be as easy as only adding a few annotations to it. That way you don't need any additional dependencies at all; the only thing you need to do is generate the stub classes using the wsimport tool (also part of the JDK) for your client application. I'm not a huge fan of SOAP, but for internal use I find it less cumbersome and more portable than remote EJBs.
    I can't offer any more advice on the topic as I don't use Glassfish. For better help, I do advise you to ask in the Glassfish forum where you'll find more people that have been in the same boat you are.

    I looks like it doesn't get the Struts libraries. We have included the Struts libraries in WEB-INF/lib of the web app and set prefer-web-inf-classes to true in weblogic.xml. Why is it that it is able to find the jars to deploy but not to access the application.
    One alternate method suggested is to have package the war into a  ear and provide the mapping for struts libraries as prefer-application-packages in weblogic-application.xml. But we think creating a ear just for library load in not a right approach & we are definitely missing something.
    Any help on this issue will be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Jiten S

    WLS 10.3.5 (and some versions before that too, one of the 10.3.x releases changed this) should also support prefer-application-packages. It doesn't appear as though the documentation has been updated to reflect that.
    Needs updating:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E21764_01/web.1111/e13712/weblogic_xml.htm#i1075205
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E12840_01/wls/docs103/programming/classloading.html#wp1098468
    I'll file a documentation bug.
    In the meantime, you can see that it is there in the XSD:
    http://xmlns.oracle.com/weblogic/weblogic-web-app/1.2/weblogic-web-app.xsd
    which is linked to from here:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E21764_01/web.1111/e13706/overview.htm#g1088563
    Here is an example of what a weblogic.xml might look like.
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>

  • Two web apps using the same EJB client jar

    I am currently deploying two web apps on a server. Both web apps use an EJB client
    jar (the same jar) to access EJB's and both apps work when tested independently.
    The problem arises when I log into app A and then log into app B. As soon as
    I do app A loses it's references to the EJBHomes, and other classes.
    It seems a classloader is unloading the first classes and instances loaded by
    the first app and then loading them from app B's client.jar.
    If I put the client.jar in the system classpath everything is fine, but that's
    just a hack.
    Is it not possible to deploy two web apps on a server using the same client.jar's
    in their own WEB-INF/lib's?

    Joe,
    As Pravin mentions, the checking of those boxes in Workbench triggers scheduled jobs within the EAC that kicks off the scripts at the appropriate time/day. But as you've noticed, there's not a ton of flexibility and you don't get cron or Windows Scheduler-type capabilities.
    If you need to do something special, you can manually kick off the report generation scripts from your control directory using the runcommand.bat (or sh) script or place the command into a cron/Windows Scheduler job:
    For example, to kick off the WeeklyReports job, you would do this:
    runcommand.sh WeeklyReports runSo, assuming you go down the route of creating multiple ReportGenerators and scripts, you would create a job to kick off the new script you've created at the appropriate time.
    Hope that helps,
    Patrick

  • Deploy problem with ejb jar in WEB-INF/lib

    Please help with : StringIndexOutOfBoundsException
    On WL 6.1 sp2, I have one EJB jar that deploys fine in an expanded EAR structure,
    this has EJB jars and the web apps together running under a single JVM.
    But when I need to deploy the Web App to a separate server & JVM, still using
    WL 6.1, and leave the EJBs in another WL server I get java.lang.StringIndexOutOfBoundsException.
    I have about 8 ejb jars. When I put one of them in the Web-App's WEB-INF/lib directory.
    I get java.lang.StringIndexOutOfBoundsException when it starts up, just after/during
    the extracting of classes for the standalone Web App. The exception stack trace
    mentions manifest, but the manifest for the ejb jar is just standard. It doesn't
    even have a Class-Path: entry, which all the others happen to have. an needs
    to contain the server EJB jars.

  • Error auto-deploying a Web App (.WAR file)

    Hello,
    Weblogic 6.1 throws a FileNotFoundException about 10% of the time for me when
    auto-deploying a Web app. Has anyone else run into this? I searched the newsgroups
    but didn't come up with anything, so I thought I'd start here.
    My build/deploy cycle is managed by an Ant build file that creates a WAR file
    of my web application and then drops it into $WL_HOME/config/mydomain/applications.
    Occasionally when I do this, I get the error shown below. Originally I was building
    the WAR file right in the ../applications directory, so I thought that might be
    an issue. So, I started building the WAR file in a staging directory and copying
    it into ../applications. No luck. Next, I tried deleting the original WAR file
    from ../applications, and THEN copying the new one over from the staging directory.
    Still fails occasionally.
    Let's see. This is Weblogic 6.1 on Win2K. The only other thing is that my dev/build/staging
    environment is on a network share, and it's from there that I'm copying the WAR
    file to my local machine (where WL is running).
    If someone has seen and/or knows what is up with this, great. If not, it's not
    a show-stopper.
    Thanks!
    Cheers,
    David

    Michael,
    This is a problem with 6.1 SP2 also -- a very annoying error. Without auto deploy
    working properly, developers are spending alot of time waiting for WebLogic to restart.
    HELP!!! we need this fixed.
    I see the EXACT same stack trace (ERROR).

    Hi.
    This may be a known issue that was addressed in sp2. If you are not already
    at that sp level I suggest you upgrade.

  • How to deploy web app from PC to Linux with Netbeans ?

    I am developing a web app in Netbeans 6.0 on my PC, using the Tomcat comes with the IDE, now I need to deploy it to a Linux server running Tomcat, can I do it from inside the IDE ? Can it copy all the servlets and other java classes to the Linux for me ? If so, what info does it need from me ? Login, password ... ?
    If not, how can I do it by hand ?

    You need to consult the NetBeans Help to see if it will export a WAR/EAR. Regarding getting it over to Linux, there are some issues there. But if you have visibility to the Linux deploy directory from your PC then it's possible. It's certainly possible to do ALL of this using Apache Ant.
