Deployment, integraion and licensing of mixed 10g editions
All,
Does anyone have experience in integrating various deployment types (Enterprise Edition, J2EE Only, Webcache Only) within a single infrastructure? Currently, we have the Enterprise Edition (EE) of AS 10g deployed across several Linux hosts.
We are seeking to expand our deployment of J2EE applications based on OC4J and are considering several additional hosts with clustered OC4J deployments. These hosts will leverage Single Sign On (SSO) and OID, but beyond that, we do not use much of the EE components (e.g. Discoverer, Reports, etc.). We are looking at J2EE Only deployments for these additional hosts and not using/licensing EE.
From a deployment, management and license perspective, there isn't much information regarding this situation. The various versions of AS 10g are described (EE, Standard and J2EE Only), but not how (or if) these versions can be integrated around a core EE deployment for purposes of SSO, OID and Metadata management.
I'm looking for any experience in this area, beyond sales speak.

In particular, read up on the licensing. If you are doing anything non-trivial, chances are that you need the "Enterprise Edition" which came as a shock to me.
As I interpret the licensing (see the license link in the article):
If you are using more than just the "Default_Configuration" you need Enterprise edition.
If you deploy your warehouse to a different instance than where your meta-data resides, you need the Enterprise edition.
If you deploy BI objects to Discoverer from OWB, you need Enterprise edition.
If you have more than one configuration, you need Enterprise edition.
In addition the type 2 and 3 SCDs, Data Quality etc are add-ons. By the time you add all of this up, Informatica isn't looking all that expensive anymore!

You make excellent points here.
IMHO, The enterprise option is a complete rip off. There is really no functionality provided that you cannot do yourself with OMB scripting and a little ingenuity.
This is really just another example of Oracle trying to suck money out of us any way they can. To make matters worse, most of these features never work as advertised.
Beware Oracle, that little software company in Redmond Washington is catching up - fast! And I don't believe the term "add ons" is in their vocabulary... -
HDV mixed format editing and mastering for broadcast TV

I have HDV blues with regards mixed format and multi time base.
Any help advice will be greatly appreciated.
I have never handled HDV in multiformat and multiple timebase to Mater and output for Broadcast television.
I am hoping to master to DVD directly on the configuration ( details provided below ) to deliver to NTSC and PAL market for DVD retail.
However I would need to take to a post house, one or more quicktime file to Output to Digital Betacam for television broadcast for both NTSC and PAL formats.

problems I am facing are on two fronts:
1) I am unsure of best quality and workflow to output master on Digital Betacam tape for broadcast TV in NTSC and PAL both formats.
2) With sequence set at HDV 1080 50i, and export setting as current setting, upon render and export of self contained quicktime direct from FCP timeline I face few troubling symptoms;
- that the quicktime exports 3mins to 35 minutes of qt clip but not the whole program of 90 minutes as one clip. System crashes and I have to reboot.
- Another symptom is that by doing above my time line shows aduio as out of sync to video. here i see that Audio tracks A1,A2 as being torn apart at cut edit points and have gap of 1 frame at random ( but not on all edit points ).
A3, A4 and other music and sound fx tracks have slipped off sync by few frames , again at random and also other places the edit comes back in sync with audio.
- Of course I am having to re- render this sequence timeline a zillion times even though the previously rendered files still exist in relevant folder.
Program duration: 90 minutes
current sequence : 1440 x 1080 at 50i
edit sequence time-line consists following source material directly ingested from tape via firewire in native HDV and DV:

I have one issue - some of the XDCAM footage she has given me is .MP4 video (actually each clip is a folder with 5 files in it (.MP4, .SMI, .PPN, .XML, .BIM). Do I have to convert the .MP4 into .MOV via Compressor to work with it (presumably this will compress it somewhat) or can I convert it simply and losslessly somehow (perhaps using sony XDCAM software?)

Software and Licensing confusion for asa5512-ips edition firewall
Hi all, we are looking at purchasing a Cisco ASA 5512-X IPS Edition but we are having a very difficult time trying to figure out what software and licensing we need for it. Can someone please answer the following questions?
1. I see the part number for the software is ASA5512-NI1Y (at least this is what we were told), but I see that some places sell it for over 800 dollars like http://nextwarehouse.com/item/?1518620 and then some sell it for 99 cents, like http://www.pcm.com/p/Cisco-Anti-Virus-&-Security-Software-Licensing/product~dpno~9969455~pdp.ificche - how can this possibly be right? Does the 800 dollar one contain the licenses???
I cannot get a straight answer from Cisco on this, every time I call to ask about it all I get is a sales pitch to buy it from them alone and a promise that someone will call me back "with more details".
2. Is there only one software package for this? As in, if we buy ASA5512-NI1Y will every feature of the firewall be available?

Mike AndersonThat part number is only for the IPS license of the soon-to-be-discontinued ASA 5512-X with CX module (last day of sales August 17 2015 - reference). It does not include the ASA appliance itself. That said, it is capable of running as a perimeter firewall with basic IPS functionality. No additional software is required (although a support contract on the base ASA appliance is required to add on a current IPS subscription license).
You would be better served with an ASA 5512-X with FirePOWER module. The FirePOWER technology (from the 2013 acquisition of Sourcefire) is more advanced than the signature-based technology in the CX's IPS and will be the strategic platform that is further built upon moving forward.
Any qualified Cisco partner should be able to create a valid quote for you to purchase one. -
Deployment of objects in OWB10g with Personal Edition Database
When trying to deploy objects in a Personal Oracle 10g database with OWB10g, the following error occurs:
RPE-01011: Cannot deploy to target database location because it does not have a compatible version.
Deployment on the same database but on Enterprise Edition works fine.
Oracle does not support OWB on Personal Edition, but I found a workaround to use OWB on a Personal Edition database. The problem is that the Deployment Manager checks for the version number from PRODUCT_COMPONENT_VERSION where PRODUCT like 'Oracle%'. It returns the version number, but with this query no rows are returned in Personal Edition because the product name does not begin with 'Oracle' (Personal Oracle Database 10g).
I found a workaround in redefining the definition of the view SYS.PRODUCT_COMPONENT_VERSION so that it returns 'Oracle Database 10g Personal Edition' for the database component. The deployment manager will then find the correct number, and you can deploy just as you would with Enterprise Edition.

We are using Forms/reports 6i with 10g database. We already have 10g database license. We have 15-20 only concurrent users using the application.

How to deploy Forms and Reports from 6i to Web Base
I am using Forms 6i in client/server mode, I want to upgrade my platform to Forms 10g web base. I know that I have to install Application Server, however, I found that there are so many options in the download page, and, I can only find the WebLogic Server.
I only need to deploy Forms and Reports, what is the minimum requirements (I means what Oracle software) I have to purchase.
Can you provide also the download link? any document can teach me how to deploy Forms and Reports? (only Forms and Reports)

I am using ant file to complile and deploy a bpel process. Currently i am able to compile the bpel process and deploy it. But when it come to deploying humantask and decesion services I am getting a message.

Co-location of persistent chat and monitoring databases on Standard Edition server
Hello, I've seen all kinds of different answers to this question around the web with conflicting answers.
We have a basic IM/Presence only install of Lync 2013 and now want to deploy Monitoring and Persistent Chat roles.
As per this blog, it states you can co-locate all of these on one FE server.

However, in the Blog, it says you need to install Full SQL Server 2008 in order to collocate, yet this goes against what TechNet says is possible, in that you can have all databases in one instance:
Each SQL instance can contain only a single back-end database (for an Enterprise Edition Front End pool), single Monitoring database, single Archiving database, single persistent chat database, and single persistent chat compliance database.
I guess my question is, can I simply install Monitoring and Persistent Chat using the same default SQL Server 2012 instance that was installed along with the Front End Standard Edition server (RTC instance)? Or should I create a new instance? Or do I need
to install a new SQL Server 2012 somewhere on a different server altogether?

Lync standard edition server has SQL express database by default to host RTC instance. Monitoring server required SQL reporting services, SQL express does not have reporting components part of it. Hence, you required full SQL version for monitoring
and archiving deployment.
Technically, you can install full SQL server on the standard edition server itself. But , it is not recommended in production environment. It's good idea to install SQL server on a dedicated server for hosting monitoring and archiving database.

looks like the database connection could not be established. The document contains a step-by-step description of how to ensure that the connect is working after deploying the BC as EJB. You can configure the BC tester to work with the EJB deployment to see if the model works.

Deploy Forms and Reports with Load Balancing
I am trying to determine what we need to install here. I have read OracleAS, Web Cache, Application Server, and
Forms documents and have no answer still.
We are currently run 9iAS with Forms and Reports 6i only.
I did not do any of those installs. We are migrating to
Forms and Reports 10g. I need to setup an OracleAS 10g
Forms and Reports application server with the ability to
do Load Balancing over 2 windows Web servers to handle
4,000+ users. The application database will be on its own
Windows server.
Do I need to install the Infastructure, BI, and Web cache?
Or just Oracle 10g Application Server option? Or other?
Do I need to install it on both web servers and do
something like clustering? Do I need to install Web
cache? I just took the 10g AS class and basically did not learn anything about deploying Forms and Reports.
Can anyone give me a place to find the things I need to
install and setup?

KimI am a DBA and have not done an iAS or AS installation
before but am now required to learn it. We will be using
SSL and no load balancing hardware. We setup for other
customer sites and setting Windows servers in the past.
We have not done load balancing before.
I am just confused with all the 10gAS options there are to
install to just run 10g Forms and Reports and setup
OracleAS 10g with the load balancing features.
So I just need to install OracleAS Forms and Reports
Server if I am just installing Forms and Reports with SSL.
But if for Load Balancing Oracle 10g I need to cluster
just Reports 10g? I thought I would need OracleAS10g
installed on my two Windows servers and somehow cluster
or let the two know they are the same web page handling
the incoming requests? I do know about Apache redirct. Is
that an Apache feature and is it covered in an Oracle
documentation? They did not cover it in class either. -

we were using Oracle DB10g (Rel 2) & Dev6i, we have the License for DB10g Standard Edition, but as now we are upgrading to Dev Suite10g so we need to have an additional Server for Application Server. Do we need to purchase the License for Application Server? If Yes then approximately how much it will cost us as we have Standard Edition for DB10g.

Licences for oracle databases depend on some factors like amount of users and/or CPU-Cores. This will be the same for the application server.
