Deployment of 1 song on multiple devices - similar to VPP

I've worked with the Volume Purchase Program in the past and everything has gone great. Recently, I had a customer ask if we could load one paid song onto 100 devices. I know that Apple doesn't offer music through the VPP program because of DRM requirements. I would like to use the same Apple ID to put the song onto all these devices. That being said, I don't want to break Apple's Terms and Agreements by only paying for the song once. Is there any possible way to load out these devices in a way that would be similar to the VPP process?

Sorry but no, there's no legal way to do that other than to purchase 100 copies, which since it would require multiple iTunes Store accounts would not be practical. In addition, this might run afoul of the terms of sale which state that tracks are sold only for personal, not commercial, use. The only other option I know of would be to buy the CD the track is on and then arrange a distribution license with the right holders, something which may be equally impractical.
The only alternativec I can think of would be if your customer would instead accept a track from one of the services that offer royalty-free music where you pay only once.
Regards.

  • ITunes library of songs on multiple devices

I have just recently bought my first iPad. It's the latest generation. I've owned an iPod touch for some years and I have a library of purchased and downloaded songs on my pc which syncs to my iPod beautifully.
I want that same library on my iPad as well but can't work out how to do it!
    Can someone advise me?

If you have taken any pictures or screen captures with the iPad then it will have a non-empty Camera Roll. When connect to Windows it is supposed to appear as a camera so that you can explore the "camera"'s memory and copy pictures from it. Just cancel if you don't want to deal with that at the time. You should, however, be running the latest build of iTunes to ensure that the correct device drivers are installed.

  • My Ipod touch will not synch all songs in my library - on my windows 8 laptop. Doesn't matter if the songs are checked or not - only some songs will synch to the IPOD. I have multiple devices and two accounts.

My IPOD touch will not synch all songs in my library. Library is on a windows 8 laptop. Checking the songs does not matter. I have multiple devices (ipod, IPhone 4 and 5, IPad 2) and two ITunes accounts.

All songs play on the laptop windows 8. The second Ipod touch we have - all songs synch to it and play.
But the first Ipod touch we bought - only half (or so) of the songs synch. So I assume there is an issue with the newer Ipod touch. The songs not synching are songs I added to the library from CD's.

  • [Music] Play spotify stream simultaneously on multiple devices

My idea is to be able to play a synchronised stream on multiple devices.    you would be able to send an invite to another user and allow other users to request to join your 'now playing' stream. Then the devices would play the same stream synchronised.      Why? well if you have a party it means everyone could play the same stream over their device, in the bathroom, garden, kitchen, car etc. the party music would dynamically move around with you and be everywhere, If you needed to go to the shop to pick up more ice why not take the party with you and stream the music on the way!     It would also be fun if everyone could then add and make changes to the playlist.          This would also allow multi room streaming without having to invest in expensive hardware, your living room PC could be playing and you could share the stream with your tablet in the kitchen so you have music everywhere.     This would also allow you to share a stream with friends regardless of their location so even if they were on the other side of the world you could share a song or playlist in real time.             I see that It may be difficult for the streams to stay perfectly synchronised and even a miniscule delay between devices would be anoying and sound terrible.     This could be solved by each device regularly verifying their stream location with the spotify server by adding a virtual time code to the stream, then If a device drifts out of sync or has poor connection it can resync itself by using the stream buffer and time code.

Welcome to the world of digital media. Your can't really transfer it. I don't know what the rules are about transferring to your spouse but I do know that in some cases when you die, your heirs cannot inherit your digital media. This is why there is still an advantage to buying the CD since the usage rights belong to whomever holds the physical media.
A possible workaround is to burn the songs to a music CD with yout account (tracks only without song titles) and then having your wife upload it as a regular music CD onto her account. It's been a while since i've done this so I'm not sure if it would work now.
Please note that I'm not advocating copyright and/or TOS violations. I'm only suggesting ways to copy music for your own personal use which has traditonally been permitted. I only did this because I wanted to convert iTunes songs to mp3 files so I could burn them onto a data CD for use in my car. It would make sense that since married couples are a joint entity, this would be personal use.
Also, I'm not a lawyer so don't take this as legal advice.

  • HT1495 Multiple logons for one computer and multiple devices trying to use one itunes account.

I have one computer with a logon for Kids and one for Adults.  There is a touch and nano that was added to a single itunes account tied to my email on the adult logon and the shuffle that is on the kids account.  I can't seem to get the multiple devices access to all the songs with out erase and re-sync error message when not using the right device on the assigned logon to the computer - why and can we change this?

It sounds like each Windows user has it's own iTunesLibrary.itl file.  If that is the case, then you are correct, the correct device must be connected when logged in with the correct login.
If all Windows logins share an iTunesLibrary.itl file... then it does not matter which login is used or which device is connected.

  • What is the best way to have multiple devices on the same account so we can still share the same library.  Right now I have 7 and I believe it's causing them to malfunction.

I have multiple devices on the same itunes library and they all starting to have the same issues.  Not recognizing numbers previously stored, not sending/receiving tests.  Do I need to get everyone separate itunes accounts?

What is the best way to set up itunes on our home network?
One iTunes library per person.  One iTunes account per person.
If people wish to share songs, they can make copies.
When the inevitable day comes when the kids get older, you will not have to come back here and post asking how all that stuff can get separated!

  • PhotoStream: Multiple Devices and Performance Issues

Had a bad night last night with PhotoStream. I have an iPhone 4S (AT&T), my wife has an iPhone 4 (VZW), we have an iPad 1 (Wi-Fi), Apple TV 2 (Ethernet), and a 2011 Mac Mini (Wi-Fi)... all in the same house that has a Time Capsule and is connected to AT&T DSL service, 3.0Mbps service (average speed test results are 2.65Mbps down, 315kbps up). Oh yeah, there's a micro-cell in there too but anytime there's trouble that gets shut off first so its irrelevant for this discussion.
So yesterday was Halloween and we both took alot of photos away from the house with the iPhones. Got home, started using the internet, noticed the performance was HORRIBLE. Speed test showed over 1,000 ms ping latency (I still can't believe I actually waited for it to finish the ping test) and nothing was getting through for the download / upload test. I have never (believe it or not) with AT&T DSL seen it get this bad. Its been bad before, don't get me wrong, but this was surprising even to me.
How did I come to the conclusion that PhotoStream was my issue you may ask? Well, its sort of a long story, but bear with me... The other day, we started having trouble with the Apple TV 2, which for the most part is pretty solid. My wife was streaming Netflix movies and it was stopping every 30 seconds. It was looking at this issue that had me first raise suspicions about PhotoStream. Just days before this problem started, I had enabled PhotoStream on the Apple TV 2. SO I did the first most logical thing anyone could do, I took a step back and disabled it. Problem solved. Thought nothing of it, yeah I was a little discouraged that I couldn't use it on the Apple TV 2, but not a big deal, my favorite part of PhotoStream is using it to get the photos into iPhoto without having to plug the iPhones in so I said to myself "I'll just keep putting the photos into Events and Albums until they work out the kinks on the AppleTV 2" thinking perhaps the Apple TV 2 needs to not update PhotoStream while videos are being played. They can fix that at some point, right? Sure they can.
Now, back to this other issue. My bandwidth last night was completely crapped out, and I was determined to prestige on Black Ops one last time so this had to change STAT! I mean, come on! I was at Level 47 and I was ready to GO! My internet connection just wasn't having it. I powered off the router, rebooted the modem, and powered on the rotuer again. Everything came up beautifully. I jumped into some Nuketown 24/7, 4 green bars next to my name and I was happy. After we lost Bravo, which on Nuketown takes about a minute and a half if both teams are fighting over it, I'm lagging like crazy and I have that little red bar that no one likes to see next to my name. Sure enough, speedtest results are all whacked out again.
So I'm sitting there thinking to myself, what could this be? My wife was watching cable TV, my son was asleep... essentially the Xbox 360 was the only thing trying to use the internet... I thought... until I remembered our iPhones and the photos we had just taken and all the devices that would be simultaneously trying to update PhotoStream. Let's list them again, shall we?
iPhone 4S - Upload to Stream and Download from Stream
iPhone 4 - Upload to Stream and Download from Stream
iPad 1 - Download from Stream
Mac Mini - Download from Stream
So how can I prove this crazy theory of mine that the great and wonderful PhotoStream was choking my internet connection? Simple.
    iPhone 4S - PhotoStream OFF
    iPhone 4 - PhotoStream OFF
    iPad 1 - PhotoStream OFF
    Mac Mini - PhotoStream OFF
Speed test results immediately after doing this?
2.73Mbps down / .31Mbps up with 26ms ping time (used the Speedtest.NET app on the 4S).
Sadly, this means that for now, I cannot use PhotoStream, however I did manage to Prestige on Black Ops which made me happy, and the iPhone 4S can still be plugged into the Mac Mini to download my wonderful looking photos.
That's right, I didn't throw away the charger cables just yet and if you want to start talking about iTunes Wireless Synching with multiple devices in the same house, I can gladly take up some more of your time. Thats right, its OFF as well!

I just wanted to report that this is still an open and particularly nefarious bug.  I've got a fairly idealized Apple household with 2 iPhone 4's, a 'new' iPad, a 13" Macbook Pro, Airport Express and our most recent addition this weekend... an Apple TV.
While I had no particular interest in enabling Photo Stream, I turned it on while messing with the screen saver settings and didn't think anything about it.  As I began to play with my new toy I was immediately disappointed with all the long spinners and timeouts in Netflix.  Later that day I noticed my computer and iPad were having similar connection issues.  My first thought was 'oh, Comcast must be acting up, that's why my new Apple TV isn't working so well'.
Fast forward 3 days to today and our network issues were still occuring and I decided I needed to figure out what was going on.  After mucking around in network settings for a couple hours I half-jokingly decided to disconnect the AppleTV on the whim that the issues started at the same time I hooked it up.  Sure enough my network issues disappeared.  I even went so far as to run continuous pings to various IP's outside my home network and watch the timeouts come & go as i plugged/unplugged my ATV.  Now knowing the ATV was the problem I set out to figure out what in particular was causing it.  As soon as I signed out of Photo Stream everything was working perfect again.  Netflix on the ATV is quick & responsive, no more spinners or timeouts.  My other devices aren't plagued with random disconnects, dns failures or slow downloads.
Long story short, something is bugged in AppleTV's Photo Stream support.  Mine didn't appear to be downloading any new photos, it had stopped with 255 photos downloaded.  Not sure if that was all I had in iCloud or maybe AppleTV can only pull down 255 max?  Maybe 255 is the magic number where it hits the bug that causes this behavior?  Either way, it appeared to be only affecting the outgoing internet connection, when I had a continous ping going to another machine on my internal LAN it didn't appear to get affected.
Hope this helps someone at Apple track down the bug.  While someone technical can probably troubleshoot these issues I could see someone like my mom never putting the 2 + 2 together that her internet problems started around the time she enabled Photo Stream on her AppleTV and instead blaming it on 'the internet acting up again' and of course calling me months later to look into it for her.

  • Does lion server support a single email address across multiple devices??

I am looking to move from an outdated Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 to OS X Lion Server but I am unsure as to how Lion will handle email. I do not want to spend money on a new windows server if I can get a Mac Mini Server to do the job. I am a very small business with a number of email accounts for a couple employees and need access to email and calendar from both the office iMac's and my Macbook Pro when on the road. My IT guy says I need Exchange but he's been off base on a few other items recently and I wanted to check with other sources.
I have 2 new iMac's, a MacBook Pro, an iPad1 and and iPhone4 on the mac side of things and 2 windows computers running XP. I would get rid of the windows computers completely if not for my CAD program which runs best not in a virtual machine mode.
How well will email and calendar entries sync across devices?

I have a very similar setup at my office. Lion Server will push email, calandar, contacts to all of your apple product with out a hitch.
As far the Windows XP machines, you can access email over IMAP with Thunderbird, and calandars via sunbird or the built in web app.
I would ditch the exchange server move to Mac OS X Server, and never look back.
    God Luck!
PS. All of your devices will be in sync all the time.
    Shore answer:
Does lion server support a single email address across multiple devices??
    Yes.

  • Multiple Devices Keep Losing Wireless Connection t...

We have multiple kids and hence multiple devices, daily, different devices are able to connect and others aren't. The only solution is to reset the homehub and they can all then connect, but it is only a matter of time before connectivity is lost. Happens on all device types, phone, TV, printer etc.
Anyone have similar issues and is there a resolution?

What Hub are you using ?
If an HH4 A or an HH5 A it is best to have different SSIDs for 2.4 and 5 GHz signals.

  • HT1449 Can I move my iTunes library onto Time Capsule and share it across my devices (similar to a NAS drive)?

    Hi
Would anyone know if I can I move my iTunes library onto Time Capsule and share it across my devices (similar to a NAS drive)?
This would give me some hard drive space on my iMac and more importantly mean my iTunes library is available all the time. Although I have Home sharing I need my iMac on and if not I use iTunes on iCloud I always seem to be downloading the tracks I need.
    Current configuration / devices:
    iMac 20-inch, Mid 2007 - nearly full!
Processor  2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    Memory  4 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
    OSX Mavericks
    Time Capsule (1TB)
    iPad
    iPod Touch
    Apple TV
    iTunes 11.1.5 (5)
    Many thanks

What "devices" are these?  By devices I normally understand i-devices and not computers.  How many computers?
If you put the whole library on the Time Capsule (TC) you can only use it with one computer at a time because the iTunes library file can only be opened by one copy of iTunes at a time.  If you put only media on the TC but have a copy of the library files on each computer you can use media by multiple computers but you then have the headache of trying to make sure that any changes done to the collection by one computer are mirrored by the libraries on the other computers which will be more or less independent.
I hope this TC isn't also your backup drive.  When the TC drive fails (and it will someday) then your whole collection is gone.  Don't rely upon Apple to always have copies for you to download.  For one, if a distributor puylls an item then it is gone period.  Additionally, Apple only keeps media, not the actual organization that is your set of library files.  If you do this, buy another backup drive.

  • Back up multiple devices on time capsule??

How do I set up back up for my multiple devices mac air, mac book pro, i phone, i pod, mac to back up on a single time capsule??

You can do that. Apple Support Contributor Pondini create this FAQ that answers that question, and more:
    http://pondini.org/TM/TCQ1.html
iPhones and iPods do not back up directly to Time Capsule. They are backed up to a Mac - you choose which one - and the Mac is periodically backed up to Time Capsule. You can even configure your iPhone to sync to your Mac wirelessly. So, the end result is similar.

How do I access my music in iTunes without downloading? I want to hear the music not save it on multiple devices...

Thanks, I tried that. It shows me only the songs i purchased and just gives me a snippet of the song. After much more reading and a phone call, it looks like Match will stream all the songs in my iTunes account without having to download them, but of course for a fee :( Thanks though.

  • Can you use wifi sync with multiple libraries and multiple devices

    Hi all
Does anyone know if you can use wifi sync with 1 computer, 2 libraries and 2 devices?
I have my wife's iPhone synced to 1 library and mine to another library but on the same computer. Will wifi sync work this way or do you need iTunes to be open to the correct library for it to work? As I know you can't have 2 instances of itunes open on the same computer.
    Anyway thanks for any help

I have been looking more and more into this and it appears no.
You need to have iTunes running on the computer to enable it to wifi sync. You can use 2 devices on 1 library but if you don't have all the right options ticked you will then end up with each others stuff on each others device.
To enable wifi sync you need to have your iDevice connected to the same wifi network as your computer and iTunes open on that computer.
With my library open it detected my wife's phone and started to sync. Hasty push of cancel sync button lol.
There is a guide on here somewhere about multiple devices with 1 library which I can't find at the moment that tells you which options to tick so only your stuff stays on your device the the other half's on their device.
Its basically tick 'sync only ticked songs and videos' under summary of your device
Under apps take tick out of 'automatically sync new apps'
Then under edit->preferences click device and click prevent i's from syncing automatically
I think you should then be able to sync both devices to 1 library with mucking them up too much
Hopefully please correct me if I'm wrong
I have tried not doing the last step and asking it to open itunes automatically when phone is connected but this does not work with wifi sync
Have fun hopefully someone else can give us a better answer
