Desktop Moving opposite of Cursor

We have 6 Minis in our teaching lab, and someone could have deliberately changed a setting on one of them for the fun of it: the desktop moves up as the cursor moves down (DT moves about 1/2 inch up when the cursor moves 12 inches down). It does it with just the Finder, no App open. The LCD monitor was changed w/o fixing it, so it is either the Mini or the OSX.4.11 OS. I don't want to do a clean install of the OS, but will probably unless someone can help. Thanks.

I would agree with Fortuny, that Universal Access is the first place to check.
I'd also make sure the resolution in Monitor settings match the native resolution of the monitor.

  • Desktop Moving With My Mouse Movements!

This is a weird one for me, as I've never seen it before.
I booted up my Mac Mini this afternoon, and when I moved my mouse, my desktop moved with it! Kind of hard to describe, but whichever way I move the mouse then the whole desktop image moves with it, regardless of what I am doing.
I have tried the Command Option P & R startup and looked in the system preferences, but I'm so far admitting defeat on this one!
    Any ideas?

    Hi Samsong-
You have zoom enabled on the mouse.
If you hold the control key while scrolling up or down is one way zoom becomes enabled and the mouse will do that. Try holding the control key down and scroll all the way out.
Zoom can be configured in the mouse preferences.

  • Moving xy graph cursor with mouse and programmably controlling snap to point

    Hi,
I have run into a bit of a problem. I am trying to create a program which allows a user to select a location on an XY graph by simply clicking in the vacinity of the plot. Most of it is working, however I find that I can't programmably control the snap to point function reliably.
I hope this is a clear outline of the problem:
    - The cursor starts in a Free state, so that when the
user clicks in the plot area, I can set the cursor
position to the nearest point by setting the
CursorPosition using the graph's property node.
    - Maybe the user didn't like the chosen location and
wants to drag the cursor over a bit. Ok, user drags
the cursor to a new position.
    - Now th
e cursor position is probably not exactly on
the plot trace. If, at this point, I set the cursor
to Snap To Point, the cursor does not snap to the
nearest point on the graph (relative to its current
position), but instead to the last place a _mouse_
    action placed it.
    - Immediately after the new location has been set,
the cursor state has to be reset to free in case I
need to programmably move the cursor again (I
can't seem to programmably control the mouse in
    any state but Free)
How do I go about getting the cursor to snap to the closest point at it's new location? I'm at a loss.
Any insight you might have would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks much!
    Tere

So what is the question about... I have to use XY graph in my program. It is used in Loop while cycle. It shows the statistic of a variable. I am using cursors in this graph to check the actual value of a variable in different period of time. But there are 7 variables and it is extremely hard for user to check each value independently. So I tried to make them moving on the X axis (TIME) together using the property node (cursors reading the position (only X axis, Y axis status lock to plot) of the major cursor and follow it... Everything looks great? But it did not work when I am trying to move the major cursor manually on graph... It works only when I am using the cursor movement buttons... But they work very slowly when there is a lot of data in graph.
I want to find out is it possible to make seven coursers mouthing together By the X axe and be Locked each at its plot by Y axe manually (Using mouse moving on a graph). Is it possible? If it is than how to do it?

  • Desktop moving icons??

Sometimes my desktop icons and folders move, I have about 100 of them on there. The worst one is the Macintosh HD. It moves from the upper right hand corner where it should be to the middle of the desktop. Would anyone have any idea why this happens?? I like things orderly on the desktop.
    Thanks,
    Margit in Minnesota

    Hi Margit!
Positioning Desktop icons, too close to the edge of the screen, will cause them to reposition themselves on restart.
Positioning them too close to each other, will cause this as well, as eww posted.
Depending on how many you have displayed, and the size of your screen, the Size of the icons, as well as the Text size & Label position can also factor in. Experiment with these settings.
My Desktop icons do not reposition themselves, and this is how I have my Desktop View Options set.
    Icon size: 32 x 32
    Text size: 12 pt
    Label position: Bottom
I have none of the following options selected.
    Snap to grid
    Show item info
    Show icon preview
    Keep arranged by
A different configuration may work for you. Experiment with the options until you find something suitable.
Click on an open area of your Desktop.
From the Finder's Toolbar, position your cursor over "View" and pull down to "Show View Options", and click. Or use the Command + J keys.
Actually, I have very few icons on the Desktop. I have created a folder titled My Stuff, that I drop everything into.
I have an Alias of that in the Dock, from which I can navigate to any item I want to open.

  • Desktop moving

whether I am using my mouse or trackpad my entire screen and desktop move. I am sure it is something simple but I can't stop it. Can someone help Thanks

Go to System Preferences>Universal Access>Seeing and make sure the Zoom is turned off. There is an option for the cursor to do this if Zoom is turned on.
    Good luck!

  • Lost desktop moving stars background

Somehow I have lost the desktop picture of dark background with moving stars.  I've tried to go back in the time machine to find it but don't see it anywhere.  Any thoughts of what might have happened to it, or where I can download a replacement?  Little think, I know, but it's bugging the **** out of me!

Restarting Finder should bring back your desktop icons.
(Apple menu->Force quit-> Finder and relaunch
Your desktop is equivalent to the folder username/desktop.
Sounds like you accidentally copied a few thousand photos from iPhoto to your desktop. You could open username/desktop and do a search for "jpg" (or narrow it down to images) for the desktop folder ONLY and remove anything you don't want.
Or switch to list view and sort your files by kind.

  • How can I get the firefox icon from the bottom of my desktop moved up onto the scree?

I want to move the firefox icon up onto the desktop so it will show up when I have the battery save function on... How?

    Hi LDHill,
Have you tried right clicking on the Firefox and icon and going to ''Send to > Desktop''? That will create a shortcut for Firefox on your desktop.
    Hopefully this helps!

  • How can I get firefox to stop moving the typing cursor to my homepages' search engine automatically?

What usually happens is when I open firefox I'll usually start typing in the url bar or in the browser search engine to the right of url bar. The problem is that while I'm in the middle of typing, firefox will move my cursor to the homepage's search engine. This gets annoying after awhile because I'll have to stop and reclick where I was typing at (sometimes it'll even move it back!). Is there a way to disable this so that firefox won't try to relocate my typing cursor every time a new page loads?

You can set to open a blank page on opening Firefox and click the Home button if you want to see the Home page. You can also click ESC to stop loading the page before typing in the location bar.
Tools > Options > General > Startup: "When Firefox Starts": "Show a blank page"

  • The scroll bar stops moving with the cursor after the frist inch or so down the page, even though the cursor keeps moving as does the page itself.

This problem started about 4-5 days ago.
After i scroll down a bit on a longer page, the scroll bar is still near (not at) the top. The page is scrolling at that point based only on me continuing to move the cursor in the scroll bar vertical column - even though not in line with the actual scroll bar itself. Then when I put the cursor on the actual scroll bar the page jumps back up to near the top of the page.
    Thanks for any help.

Are you using code in userContent.css or Stylish?
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).
*Do not click the Reset button on the Safe mode start window or otherwise make changes.
Firefox Safe mode also disables the customizations in the userChrome.css and userContent.css files.

  • Why blinking of cursors, buffering of videos, connecting round up to sites hang up in the middle and only moving continously the cursor keep this problem at bay?

The blinking of cursor stops to blink while mouse is idle. The buffering of videos stops buffering while cursor is idle and the video is not downloaded. The round up figure on the bar stops rounding up while cursor is idle and not connected to another site.
    What is happening?

Many of your points are totally legitimate.
    This one, however, is not:
…To put it another way, the design of the site seems to be geared much more towards its regular users than those the site is supposedly trying to "help"…
The design and management of the forums for more than five years have driven literally dozens of the most valuable contributors and "regulars" away from the forums—permanently.
The only conclusion a prudent, reasonable person can draw from this state of affairs is that Adobe consciously and deliberately want to kill these forums by attrition—without a the PR hit they would otherwise take if they suddenly just shut them down.

  • Desktop moving around within screen

Looks like I might have pressed the wrong keys somewhere. The size of the desktop image has become about 2 ins. larger than the size of the screen so that, when I move on the trackpad, the whole screen image including all the programs on it moves around. So, if I circle my finger on the trackpad, the whole desktop and everything on it circles too. I have gotten over the sea-sick feeling now but I was trying to use Grab and it kept selecting a different area of the screen to the one I thought I was selecting which would indicate there is a mismatch between where Grab thinks the pointer is and where it actually is. I have tried adjusting the screen resolution to no effect and looked everywhere I can think of so I would really appreciate it if anyone knows how to cure this. Thank you.

Go into System Preferences and under Universal Access and the Seeing tab, set Zoom to off.
You will also see that Option-Command-= is the key combo you must have accidentally pressed. You could also leave Zoom on if you want and use Option-Command-- to unzoom.

  • Sometimes my download "freeze", but when I move and keep moving my mouse cursor into the small download window it runs again, if I stop moving it, it stops. So instead of keeping moving my mouse endlessly I choose to restart Firefox and then it works.

this occur with megaupload download (which represents 99% of my downloads)
And this occur from time to time maybe 1 every 20 dnloads or more, and maybe when this happens I have 4 or five windows opened. I use FF4 but with version 3 I had the same problem.
    It feels like a bug
    Thanks

Right-mouse on the Synaptics toolbar icon  to bring up Mouse Properties, select the Device Settings tab, press Settings to bring up Properties for Synatpics ClickPad, on the left open Pointing... Sensitivity... Palm Check.  This is a feature to prevent accidental touchpad movement by your palm while you're typing.  So it prevents use of the touch pad when keys are directly used.
    Good luck!

  • Firefox will not appear anymore. The icon is on my desktop. Nevertheless, the cursor just stays in idle when I try to pull it up.

Firefox used to work on my computer up until yesterday. I am not sure what happened. However, Firefox is my favorite Search Engine and I want it back.

Perhaps the PLUGIN Update feature needs to be engaged to assure that both Java and Shockwave editions are current. It requires 'Help' > 'Firefox Help' > where the lower right side displays a link for Plug-In Update...

  • Grey trail when moving mouse cursor

Have I got a virus on my Mac when i get a grey trail when moving the mouse cursor? Please advise.

This is not malware of any kind. What it is is uncertain, but it sounds like a very serious low-level problem. I assume this gray trail is left indefinitely on your screen, unless a portion of the screen is redrawn? Try taking a screenshot by pressing command-shift-3, then open the screen shot file that appears on your desktop. Does the gray trail show up in the screenshot? If so, can you post the screenshot here? (Click the camera icon in the editor toolbar in a new post here and attach that screenshot file. Make sure there's no sensitive personal information showing in the screenshot.)
