Desktop SMS and Windows Mail don't work properly together

thought I would post there here as been having some issues with my Windows Mail but my desktop computer doesn't suffer same issues and on a Vista forum where I posted my problem a couple of very helpful told me who to try solving the issues.
One of them suddenly realised I'd said my laptop was a Toshiba and apparently the Desktop SMS and Windows Mail just don't work properly together so the person suggested unless I use it to uninstall it apparently amongst the technically trained its known that these two programs don't like each other and would explain why my desktop doesn't have the issue but laptop does.
After resetting the Windows Mail (tutorial on a vista site http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/) Touch wood don't be put off by vistax64 as site does both 32 and 64 and followed Brink's excellent resetting Windows Mail (didn't restore any mail) and then uninstalled Desktop SMS and touch wood no more mail issues as has been giving me problems virtually daily with marking draft emails as read/sent.
So had to click on forward then delete those bits and finish email to send it and touch wood since doing these two things as soon as send an email to draft or outbox get the number of emails in the brackets whereas before this wouldn't happen unless I closed the program then reopened it.
Hoping these solutions have fixed my problem and wanted to share it with anybody else who wants to read this thread and would recommend the Vista 64 site as they're all really helpful over there and speak in non technical terms for those of us not technically trained.

I have marked this as answered as it was more a post to help others who may have experienced the same problem I did and didn't get a reply or just didn't know that this program could be the reason their Windows Mail has issues that can't seem to be resolved any other way apart from ignore them and hope they don't get worse.

Destype and desname parameters don't work properly

We have a j2ee webApp that uses oracle reports to run reports. One report in particular could be really long and slow (b/c it contains lots of dynamically generated jpegs) depending on what parameters a user chooses. So for this report, we'd like it to run asynchronously, notify the user when it is finished, and store the pdf on that user's local machine. So our report url looks like this:

I got the first 2 things working by doing background=yes&notifysuccess=someEmailAddress
However, I can't get the report to be downloaded to the user's machine after it's done running. I've tried:
1) destype=localfile&desname=$TMP/test.pdf
2) destype=localfile&desname=C:\temp\test.pdf and other ways.
I also tried to see if I could store the pdf on our UNIX appServer:
destype=file&desname=$TMP/test.pdf but that didn't work either.
No matter what I set destype to (localfile, cache, or file), the pdf ALWAYS gets stored on our appServer at $ORACLE_HOME/reports/cache and the name of the pdf gets derived from the value of desname plus some 8-digit random numeric string. So in the 1st case above, the generated pdf was:
test25136488.pdf
And in the second case, the C:\temp\ wasn't interpreted as a directory, but as part of the filename so the result was an ugly filename:
C:\temp\test14257852.pdf
This is only a problem for us for this 1 report (and possibly others in the future) b/c our other reports typically run pretty fast so the user can just wait for the pdf output to pop up in their web browser.
Any help on how to get destype and desname working properly (or if you have a better solution for dealing with really time and memory consuming reports) would be much appreciated.

The behaviour of DESTYPE=LOCALFILE is not the same for rwclient and the reports servlet :

It is not possible to save an ouput returned by an URL automatically with a browser.
If you want something automatic, you have to use a free utility like curl or lynx

Acrobat 8 and Windows 7 Don't Work

I just loaded Windows 7, now my Adobe Acrobat 8 doesn't create or combine pdfs. Reloaded Acrobat 8 and still doesn't work. Is there a patch to work with windows 7?

Well I finally got Acrobat 8 to work on my 64 bit windows 7 system. I put in all in a file in case I ever need to reload it. Here is what worked for me.
To install Acrobat 8 on Windows 7
1. Find folder data1.cab in installation files and drag AdobePDF.dll_64 onto desktop. Rename file AdobePDF.dll by deleting _64.
2. Start installation process and when asked for file AdobePDF.dll from Vista disk use browse button and direct installation to file on desktop.
3. After installation is complete try update (Help/Check for Updates) and after that check the version (Help/about ...). You need to update to at least ver. 8.1. If the Check for updates does not work - go to:

and do AT LEAST the 8.1 update.
4. Now you may try to print to the Adobe PDF printer but it probably will not work. If not, you will need to go to the Devices and Printers/Adobe PDF/Printer Properties/Advanced and set it to "Print Directly to Printer".
That process should allow you to create .pdf files from the print menu. But be advised that sometimes it is necessary to click on the flashing icon in the lower tray to bring up the "Save" box after the print is initiated.

Since installing Firefox 4, I keep getting this message "TypeError: Components.classes[cid] is undefined" when a window should open. Also print and print preview don't work properly anymore.

Since installing the newest version of Firefox, This message "TypeError: Components.classes[cid] is undefined" appears in a box when a new window should open. Also, what you see in print print preview is not what prints.

This type of error is usually caused by an add-on you are using that is not compatible. It could be anything from an antivirus link scanner like AVG Safe Search add-on, or McAfee Site Advisor add-on, or something similar. To confirm what add-on is causing this use the procedure in this link:

Try Disabling the last add-on that was installed prior to upgrading to version 5.0
Check and tell if its working.

Aperture 3 and Time Machine don't work well together

I've noticed that my Time Machine (10.6.2) creates large backups (at least 250 MB) when I've only opened up Aperture 3. No retouching, no adding of photo's (of course), no changes. Just opening Aperture and a bit of scrolling.
Is there a way to prevent this? Is Time Machine perhaps backing up a cache? Where would I find this cache so I could perhaps exclude it from the TM?

the main idea of time machine is being able to restore your system to its latest state, or any state in time when it made a backup. in order to be able to do this, it just has to backup any file that's been changed, even if it's just a database having been touched by sqlite3. aperture 3 now saves the way you were viewing or where you were in a certain album or project, so when you come back to it, it takes you to exactly the same place. i guess it's necessary to write to a couple of database files to do that, even when you're just browsing. i kind of like this functionality.
just three quick comments:
-disk space is dirt cheap nowadays, so getting a big time machine backup disk shouldn't be any problem.
-since getting previous versions of your aperture library back is usually not very likely to happen, what i do from time to time is go in to time machine, select my aperture library and delete all copies of it. this takes quite some time, but on the next backup, you'll have your current library backed up and a time machine volume with more space.
-about it taking too long over wifi: backing up is a background process. does it slow down your other stuff while you're working? if so, let it run only when you're not at the computer, or hook up a big usb disk locally.

When I use the pen or brush tools with a tablet (VisTablet Original), they just make these long diagonal lines. They work fine when I use a mouse and my tablet works in other programs. Is there any way to fix this?

Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new). Try each of these in order until the issue is resolved.
It might also be a good idea to contact Square for assistance.

If you have an external drive with an OS X Time Machine backup, then do restore of your last backup. If you have an external drive with a bootable clone of your previous system, you can boot to that clone and re-clone the OS X on your external drive back to your Mac's internal drive.
If you do not have either of these available, then the reverting/restoring process becomes much more complicated and involves purchasing an external drive and backing up your current system to that drive, then erasing, reformatting your hard drive and now your only options to installng an OS X version is doing a clean install of OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard, then upgrading, again, to either OS X 10.7 Lion or 10.8 Mountain Lion. OS X 10.9 Mavericks is no longer available for download and Apple has not made OS X 10.9 Mavericks available in any other form to be able to redownload and install.
Maybe it would be better to explain in detail your issues with Yosemite to see if any of us here can help you with your difficulties.

If you don't have a rescue email address (or you do but aren't the receiving the email to it) then you will need to contact iTunes Support / Apple to get the questions reset.

Forward and back buttons don't work in Firefox but do everywhere else.

Make sure that you set those buttons to the default action in your mouse driver software (Control Panel > Mouse or specific Intellimouse driver software).

Do I understand correctly that you've used Send to send a file that you've uploaded to Acrobat.com? What happens when you send to your own email address? Are you able to click the link in that email, and access the file that way?
If you're unable to copy the email in the browser window after you've generated a public link, please clear the browser cache, and try again. Or, use a different web browser (for a list of supported browsers, see System requirements | Acrobat.com).
