Determining Data transfer rate through modem in java

Hi,
I want to write an application in java which will communicate with
connected modem of the system and it will detect the data transfer rate.
I want to know how much data is transferring(upload/download)through modem and in a specific time how much data is transferred.
I will give some max upload/downloading limit for a specific time and if data transfer exceeds that limit,it will show message.
e.g if i fix max upload/download data transfer limit by the modem is say 10GB/20GB for a specific time span say for 15 days.Then my program automatically will start when the Modem will be connected and keep a log of data transfer(upload/download)and if data transfer goes beyond limit then it will show message.Also i would be able to see how much data is transferred for any specific day.
I want to know this type of application is possible in java.If yes then
which API's i need to use.
If this type of program is available in some site in other language then also i will be helpful.Pl give the links.

i want to do it in java only to explore the power of
java.I agree with Abuse, Java is not designed for such applications. I'm not even sure if you can solve your problems with Java.

    I just checked my BIOS and my current setting is set at IDE although it also mentions that the default should be AHCI. Currently I have a dual boot of Windows 7 (need it for Tax software) and Arch
    So I guess, when I get the new HDD, I will first set it to AHCI and then install the OSes on it. See if NCQ helps any, and if not I will turn it back and re-install (if I have to). I am planning to have Windows only in virtualbox in the new drive.
    Anyhoo, while I was in the BIOS I found two things which I had questions about :
    1) Under Onboard Devices --> Integrated NIC , my setting is currently set at "On w/PXE" and it says the default should be just "On". Would it be ok to change it back to On since its a single machine and its not booting an OS on any server. I just don't want to have to re-install anything now since I will be doing that in the new HDD.
    2) How would I know whether my BIOS would support a 64 bit OS in Virtualbox? I checked some setting under Virtualization, but they weren't very clear.
    I will edit this post and let you know exactly what settings were present under the Virtualization sub-section.

  • Difference in data transfer rates between winXP and Linux server?

    Hello all,
    I am using a winXP laptop to act as my server (all usb external hard drives are connected to it) but the data transfer rates can be really slow. Is Linux faster in that regard? Can a Linux based server provide faster data transfer rates?

    Linux cannot make hardware go any faster - so if WinXP and its drivers are making optimal use of those USB drives and the USB data transfer pipe, Linux will not make it faster. (but installing Linux and going Tux are always excellent ideas that need no real reason either ;-) )
    Real question you should be asking is if using a notebook in a server role is wise thing to do?

  • Disk data transfer rate - iMac 2013

    First of all, sorry for my troubled English speaking, I'll do my best to explain the issue I'm having in the best way possible.
    Yesterday I finally received my new iMac (I'm a proud Apple user since 2006), the machine has these specifications: 16 GB Ram, i7 processor, nVidia GT 780M, and a SSD drive of 1TB of capacity.
    Under Mavericks everything runs smooth and fine, no issues at all, just perfect, the fastest machine I've ever had. Unfortunately, I had to install Windows 7 via Bootcamp (I'm a mechanical engineer and I use Autodesk Inventor to do my stuff).
    After completing the installation of the Microsoft OS, I instantly noticed some laggy performance while running Windows: I installed as asked all the Bootcamp drivers with the USB pendrive that I prepared, but both the startup of the system and the normal use were a bit slow, even slower than my old '09 iMac.
    In order to understand what the problem was, I ran the system performance test included in Windows: all the ratings I have are maxed out at 7.9 (7.9 is the top I think), in exception of the "Disk Data Transfer Rate", that is 5.9. As far as I remember, this value is typical for a mechanical disk drive, not for an SSD drive supported with PCIe connections.
    Does anybody here got a similar issue? Is there any driver package that I have to install in addition to the Bootcamp drivers?

    That is because the WEI uses your boot disk as the default device to measure performance, and, for instance, a Velociraptor 10 K disk, does not score more than 5.9. The story changes when the test is run on other disks, like my array:

    You can use the New-NetQoSPolicy cmdlet to set the throttling limits -
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh967468.aspx. Based on the destination port (the port on which the replica server has been configured to receive replication traffic - maybe it's port 80 in your case) or the destination subnet, you can specify
    a throttling value (-ThrottleRateActionBitsPerSecond) or assign a weight (MinBandwidthWeightAction).
    Eg: New-NetQosPolicy "Replica traffic to 8080" –DestinationPort 8080 –ThrottleRateActionBitsPerSecond 100000

    Hi, (sorry for my pour english) I had to go back to Winxp native SATA/IDE drivers and my pc crash & BSOD problem it's gone! :D (BSOD when i install some programs or some games, listening music and moving data at the same time, etc.) now i'm available to execute multitasks without any troubles. But now the transference it's quite poor  , I think this is an easy and temporary solution for this big problem.
    I bought my PC on 2006 and the Windows XP drivers are from 2001, aren't new Nvidia/MSI drivers to fix this annoying problem?

    I've got nearly the same problem, but a little worse. My data transfer rate seems very slow for a 100mb network and if I start copying files over the network, after only a couple of megs I lose connectivity to the network completely! I've removed the network cable and windows notices this, and when I put it back in windows also notices the change, but the green and orange lights on the port itself stay on solid. If I reboot windows everything comes back. I don't have problems browsing the web, seems to only happen when the ethernat port is running close to full load (for the connection speed of 100mb as apposed to 1gb).
    Anyone else seen this? I'm on the latest drivers, the latest bios and I've tried disabling on of the network ports in the bios but his didn't work.

    Ok, I am assuming that your measurements are in Mega Bytes per Second (MB/s) and not Mega Bits per Second (Mb/s). Even so, I would agree that you are getting low data transfer rates.
    What is the make and model of the USB HDD that you have attached to the AirPort Extreme? Is it formatted in HFS+ or FAT32?
    Also, the 25.8 & 18.4 readings when you have this drive attached directly is a bit low as well. I would expect something more like: 35 MB/s (read) & 25 MB/s (write) for a USB 2.0-connected HDD.

  • Data transfer b/w SAP to Java using IDOC and Interface SAP Jco

    Dear Experts,
    The challenging requirement we are having is, we need to create the interface for data transfer between SAP system and the Java system. The data will be transferred from SAP to java and similarly once some processing done in Java again the details needs to be transferred from Java to SAP.
    For this data transferred we are planning to use IDOC process and for interface "SAP Java connector (Version 3.0.5)" we are planning to use. As per our understanding, from Java side one program needs to be written to connect with SAP as "Registered program". This registered program will appear in SAP GATEWAY automatically and using tRFC, TCP/IP connection both SAP and Java system will be connected.
    In this case we are having some doubts.
    1. The data from SAP is going to be transfered from one Custom transaction (Z tcode). Once "Outbound IDOC" will get triggered and will carry the details. Now the doubt is, whether the data / details will get transfered to JAVA system automatically or we need to perform any other steps from SAP ABAP coding...(like converting in to flat file, XML file and etc) ??
    2. We are planning to install "SAP Jco" in Java server. Is this correct...??
    3. Other than SAP Jco any other softwares needs to be installed or not..??
    4. Since we are going to trigger the "outbound IDOC" from custom transaction, we are planning to develope one program in SE37. Other than this any other program we need to develop or not..??
    5. Any sample Java program for the SAP Jco version 3.0.5 to create the "Registered program" with SAP..? (e.g. SAP Listener program).?
    If anybody has detailed steps or explanation please share it with us.

    Hi All,
      For the above mentioned issue, we implemented JCo software in JAVA system and created the JAVA program including SAP logon credential details like Client, User name, password and Language details.
    When this JAVA program was compiled successfully then, that non SAP system will appear in SAP gateway Tcode.
    Once non SAP system started appearing in SAP gateway that means, both SAP & Non SAP are connected automatically.

  • How can I check the data transfer rate of my FW800 port

    I have an iMac 2.4 20 inch (MB323LL/A) with a Lacie external rugged hard drive (320 GB). I have attached it using my FW800 port with the cable supplied with the drive.
    It seems slow to me so I was wondering if there is any way to see what the current data transfer is for a backup in progress. Of course it should be 800Mbps but is it really moving at that speed ? How can I tell what speed it is transferring at ? Can I use the same method for USB ports too ?

    When you move a large file, you are more likely to see a sustained transfer rate than a small file. Small files have to be individually read/write back and forth, thus slows the actual transfer rate down. If you are moving any file up to 4 GB and probably over 1 MB you'll see more realistic transfer rates. Furthermore your hard drive access time, and RPM figures into the equation too, as well as how much RAM you have. 800Mbps works out to 100 Megabytes per second under ideal conditions.

    I have installed a new WD 1tb internal hard drive in my late 2006 iMac . I've managed to get over a problem I posted about earlier namely getting the Snow Leopard disc out and using my original Tiger 10.4 discs. Trouble now is despite following the instructions for formatting my new hard drive I keep getting input\output error coming up . I've googled a lot and I believe it may be because my intel Mac supports 1.5gbs a second transfer rate whilst the hard drive is 6gbs . I have a caviar blue advanced drive that has no jumpers to change , but I'm led to believe that would be the answer . I'm relatively new to all this but are there jumpers in the mac itself ? Or is there a way to change the rate so my Mac accepts and formats the drive ? On various sites it says the drive is compatible but not how to do this. Hope it makes sense lads I'm sooo stressed .

    Transfer rate won't cause this problem. Your Mac will only transfer data as fast/slow as it can, 1.5gbs. The HD transfer rate will automatically slow to 1.5gbs.
    What did you use to format the HD and what format did you use? It should be formatted to 'Mac OS Extended (Journaled)'. This can be easily done using the Disk Utility app that comes with OSX.
    Usually the jumpers are for making the HD a master or slave drive. You shouldn't have to mess with the new HD settings to make it work.

    I was moving some files from one PC to another with the Linksys router and noticed it was slow so I ran DU Meter and Max speed of transfer was 156kb. I then hooked up my Dlink and did the same test and was getting7mg. Why the difference in data transfer speed?

    I installed the new firmware last week. I'm here because of it. I now have intermittent drop/hang/mixed mode problem everybody's complaining about, which I never had before on my GS, till I went from 1.52.0 to the latest 1.52.2 on a v5 GS. Nobodys responded to me, so I'm rolling back.... I can't keep swapping to G only everytime the kids want to use thier PSP's

    I am looking at upgrading my MacBook hard drive, but the drive I wanted to get is SATA-300, and I want to set the data transfer speed to 150 MB/sec to reduce the power draw of the drive without changing performance much. I know in Windows you can do this in to BIOS settings. Does anyone know how I would do this in Leopard? I assume it would be Terminal commands.

  • HDD data transfer rate is slow in my new i7

    I had MacBook Pro 15" , 2.8 GHz , 500 GB HDD and because of some hardware problems Apple replace this laptop with new MacBook Pro 15" 2.66 i7 CPU, 500 GB HDD. I install same windows7 64bit in both via Boot camp. Disk transfer rate in old MacBook is 5.9 and in my new laptop is 5.6 ?!?!?!?
    I installed Bootcamp drivers and also installed all updates of windows7.
    Can you tell me reason of this difference and any solution to improve this rate?

  • Installed SSD but data transfer rates at 8mb/s and unresponsive

    Sigh, just installed the Crucial m500 480gb SSD in my macbook pro 17" early 2011. Everything seemed well on bootup and the SSD is detected and formatted successfully. But when I run CCC, it took 2hrs to transfer 2gb.
    After stopping the cloning, the SSD became unresponsive. Even disk utility crashed and cldn't start up. I had to reboot.
    Then I tried manually coping a 10gb file from my existing HDD to the SSD, it started at rates of 8mb/s then dropped. It wld stop for awhile (20-30s) and continue. All the while, transfer rates keep dropping till 2-3mb/s. I stopped the transfer halfway as it was taking so long. Then the SSD became unresponsive again.
    Is it safe to say that there is a problem with the SSD??

    You might want to contact Crucial support - make sure you have the latest firmware for it too (although no available updates are listed on the Crucial site).

  • Data Transfer rate on IPLC link

    Dear Experts
    I have one link (IPLC) from india to african countries and the link bandwidth is 150 Mbps. This link i am using for my data transfer from servers connected on both side of the links. Now the problem is that i am able to get only 500 to 700 KBps of file transfer speed with FTP protocol even if the link is free.
    The END A and END B distance would be around 9000 Kilometers and the response  on the link is aroung 200 to 230 ms.
    As per my past experience i have few links with in the country and the link distance is around 2000 Kilometers  and the response time on the link is only 30 to 40ms. Here i use to get the file transfer speed upto 17 MBps. Now i understand that if the distance is more the file transfer may take some time but want to highlight that we are using  RFC 1323 tunable settings on server NIC cards . With this RFC i should be able to achieve more then 10Mbps of the speed.
    I don't have any experience on working on the IPLS link for huge data transfer so woulf need your expert suggestions on the issue. I want to achieve  the maximum speed on the link if it is possible.

    Western Digital is great but every manufacturer ships out defective drives now and again. Run a hard test with Sea Tools or the WD equivalent and if anything comes up, call them immediately. Your drive is still under warranty if it's brand new so they should replace it for free.
