I've been testing on teh Android simulator, PlayBook and iPad/iPhone but I think I need an Android device to test on but there is so many devices to chose from.
What one would you recommend and what version of Android?
A cheap device would be ideal.

The Motorola Xoom could be the fastest Android tablet for Flash. The Honeycomb 3 model is now £390 on Amazon.co.uk
I wanted to test the 10 inch Samsung Galaxy Tab in a shop, but the internet connection in the shop wasn't good enough to test it. If anyone's tried it, please post your results here.

Capture Device Advice

I did a forum search but to no avail and of course, this may not be the best forum for this to be asked but I do so anyhow knowing there are some enlightened souls here who could likely offer me advice.
I'm having trouble keeping my camcorders (Canon ZR Series) up and running in regards to capturing. They work great otherwise, for what we are using them for, but the firewire ports are constantly shorting on us. The repairs are becoming too costly to keep up with as we're having to spend more than the camera is even worth to try and get them working again.
I know there are other options to use for connectivity which would allow us to bypass the firewire connection altogether. Granteed, I'd lose the digital quality but at this point efficiency reigns supreme over quality. I'm looking for recommendations on a couple of things:
1) I've found plenty of easy fixes, such as the Diamond Capture Device and a few other "one touch" solutions that exist. The problem I've had with Diamond (actually ordered some and then returned them) is that the video being captured was in a much smaller resolution and the image literally had to be stretched to take up the entire screen. Is this normal? Is there a way to capture in analog but not lose extra resolution/generation in doing so? I felt like I was losing twice as much quality as I should have been by stretching the video out.
2) How much am I losing in visual quality by using an component or S-video?
I need a cost-effective solution until I can order new camcorders which wont be until next fall.

Optimal Camcorder/Device Advice for Mac Interface

Howdy.
I would like to take feed from my TV/VCR and get it onto my Mac. I'm running iMovie 4 on a 15" G4 PowerBook and using OSX 10.4.2. What research I've done suggests the way to do this is by getting a camcorder and directing the output from the VCR into the camcorder and then routing the output from the camcorder into my Mac via FireWire.
Is this really the best way to do this? And, if I should go with a camcorder, which are the best for Macs? Do I have to get one with a FireWire connection? Are there any that let you take feed straight from the TV into the Mac?
Any advice and/or direction would be much appreciated!

Input Device Advice

So far I've been doing fine with a little M-Audio FW Solo, but now I have to record a 4 piece band.
I'm looking to get 6-8 mics into Logic at one time on discreet channels. Motu 8pre seems to be popular and can do the job for around 600 USD, but then the Alesis MultiMix 8 FW goes for 300 smackers, so the obvious question I have is...can/does it do the job?
The specs don't explicitly say it will output all of those channels separately and I wonder if anyone has specific knowledge or recommendation.

If you're going to mix in the DAW, you can get away with the Motu. I have used their products before, not specifically this one, but i can say I like their mic preamps, they are clean and have plenty of gain.
I have no experience on the Alesis, so I cannot comment on that one.

Why does the screen on my IPad 3 go blank before it allows me to "slide to unlock"?"

I recently bought the iPad3. When I turn it on, I see the home screen and the "slide to unlock", but I can't do anything until the screen goes blank. Then I have to press the home button and the "slide to unlock" becomes accessible. Is this normal? Thanks!

I found apple service by calling number on the new ipad manual that comes in the ipad box. At the end pages of that manual there is number for support and service. You can also try to learn service number from the store you bought it. Or you live in a country which has Apple Store, give it to them to test it.
I thought it was a software issue too. I'm good on using software. I struggled a lot to find the trick. I searched net about it and saw it happens with ipads, iphones, android phones, generally touch screens. Don't accept ro reset your device advice if it is repeating.

You don't need an antivirus on a Linux based tablet. becuase executable files are not directly installed on the kernel but on the home layer. If you open a corrupt file containing the ipothetic virus (there are few viruses compiled for C++ and the people who create them is against the free source) the device advice you that you are trying to open a corrupt file. This is adevice based on Xorg........... you don't need really an Antivirus even if I've tried to use it in my Ubuntu Karmic and in my Ubuntu Lucid and it works fine to scan devices connected in mass storage mode.........I've found a rootkit on my old N91 that was connected to a XP

Recording telephone conversations

My project involves pre-recorded, edited telephone conversations. I intend to use GB for the editing.
What device/advice do I need to record from the phone, both sides of the conversation, directly into GarageBand?

Anyway I am not sure if you are PC or Mac but if Mac there are ways to record with wiretap pro and some others, BUT if you want to do it anywhere you could sign up for a grandcentral number and then you can record from any phone vonage or cell.

My devices and current status
13" Macbook Pro with 8gig RAM with lion OS - Mosty used for word processing, DJing, low Internet usage now that i have Ipad, photo management, DVD ripping etc etc - i use this as my main device to organise emails and i purchase most apps, music and films on this device too
Ipad2 - Mostly for media content, web browsing, Youtube, playing games, FB, watching films. I use this device for fun not functionality or work related things
Iphone 4 - Usual phone usage, I use my phone as my main device for iCal, contacts, checking emails/messages on the move
2GB time capsule - brand new in the box as yet unused
Generally speaking i get confused or change my mind frequently about what to sync to which device, i started off using icloud but then things got confusing and i had things real messed up, multiple same contacts, apps on differnet device, differnet music on all 3 devices so now for the moment i think of my Macbook as the main device with both my iphone and ipad backed up to the Macbook. I then back up all of this on a regular 500g external Hard Drive.
So my questions are as follows
1. Can and should i use icloud to back up my devices and if so how should i do this effectivly
2. What syncing procedure would suit me best
3. How should i integrate Timecapsule to my devices
Any other suggestions would really be apreciated

Yes. Since both are connected by "Ethernet" each base station is its own wireless network and you have a few options on how best to configure them.
One of those options is to give both wireless networks the same Network Name (or SSID) so that you can, for example, "walk" a laptop from one to the other and stay connected. This is known as a roaming network.
If this is something that you don't desire or have a requirement for, then leaving them as two separate wireless networks would work just as well.
So what i am asking - i guess - is can i increase the distance the wifi signal reaches of the second unit (the time capsule - that is wired to the airport extreme)
To extend the wireless range of the Time Capsule (TC) you would need another 802.11n AirPort, like the AirPort Express Base Station (AXn). This should get a stronger signal out to the garden. Of course, it would really depend on the distance from the TC to where you would like to place the AXn to get the best results.
Let me know if you need help configuring the base stations.

Conflicting advice about changing from POP to IMAP on multiple devices

I get email to six POP accounts on three devices - iPhone, iPad and my MacBook Air. Deleting the emails I've already read on one device from the other two has become incredibly time-consuming. I've poked around on the boards to try to find out if changing my email accounts to IMAP on the iPhone and iPad only would be a good solution, but I've gotten conflicting advice. I found both of these statements, which would appear to contradict each other:
statement #1:
+No, that should be fine to do that but as mentioned above, you would set the POP account on your desktop to leave mail on the server. This is the setup I use (POP on desktop, IMAP on iPhone). I like it because it adds a layer of backup. If your mail server went down and lost all your email, you'd still have copies on your desktop in your POP account. Also, you can still reference/search email if your internet goes down.+
statement #2:
+I have to second these motions here - Do Not try to mix these two or you risk loosing email... Then make sure you reconfigure your Mail.app to IMAP. You will need to create a new IMAP account in the prefs, manually move all of your POP email to their corresponding folders in the IMAP account, and then delete the POP account.+
Surely lots of other people are finding it hard to manage their email with all of these other devices? Whenever I launch Mail in either my iPad or my iPhone it loads the new ones, plus up to 50 old emails from whenever I stopped deleting them before...

I don't know how many are switching. I assume that most users who have multiple email devices they want to keep synced set them up as IMAP accounts to begin with.

Need advice on how to best approach Family Sharing, multiple devices, Apple IDs, etc.

We need to rethink and reorganize how we manage these devices because my wife does not want my email, iMessages, contacts, or Safari bookmarks showing up on her new MacBook, but she would like to use the upcoming Continuity feature.
In the perfect world, we would like the following: We would like to have separate: 1) email, 2) iMessages, 3) contacts, 4) Safari bookmarks, and 5) photos/videos. But we would like to have access to: 1) each others' backed up photos and videos stored on the new iCloud Drive, 2) iTunes, App Store, and iBooks Store purchases, and 3) a shared family calendar.
Right now, using the same Apple ID on all five devices, we are able to successfully do all of the above by setting up different email accounts on each device, by designating different phone numbers and email addresses on each device, etc. However, when my wife set up her new MacBook Air this morning, she told it to import Contacts from the Apple ID, but it looks like it imported everything from an old iCloud backup of my device. How can my wife totally integrate and sync her own iPhone and MacBook Air without getting the bookmarks, contacts, etc. from my iPhone? Is there a way to do this, whether through same/different Apple IDs, the new Family Sharing mechanism, or a combination of both? Any considerations or advice that I am not thinking of?

We've an article that provides the following troubleshooting steps that may help stabilize your iPhone.
If the device is unresponsive or if certain controls aren't working as expected, restart your device.
If the device remains unresponsive or does not turn on (or power on), reset your device.
If there is no video or if the screen remains black, verify that the device has enough charge to turn on:
If you are using an iPad, ensure that it's connected to the USB Power Adapter supplied with the device.
Let it charge for at least twenty minutes, then see if it starts normally.
If there is no image on the screen, press the Sleep/Wake button to attempt to wake the device.
If the screen displays a red battery icon, continue charging the device until the battery is fully charged. Learn more about charging iPhone and iPod touch, or iPad.
If the above steps do not resolve the issue, or the if the screen remains black or shows a persistent Apple logo, try restoring with iTunes:
Connect the device to your computer and open iTunes.

I found a solution !!!
The problem is that the font SEGOE UI MAGER (one of the fonts) is not installed.
When you go on this link, you can download the missing font !

download this, open it and go on install !
Then you open your Itunes and your Text is there again. Maybe its a little bit to big but, its there !!!

I cannot find my IPOD touch listed on ITunes (there is no "Device" menu option in iTunes- any advice?). Using IPOD touch (32gb) and connecting with a laptop using Windows Vista. Downloaded the latest ITunes and it wiped all my music. I was able to recover the music purchased on Itunes (but not my CD downloads). I am having difficulty syncing my IPOD now and all of the help guides tell me that I need to use the "device" options to fix it but there is no "Device" options in my ITunes ribbon.

Just the old fashioned way, like if you lost your wallet.

Hi all. I can’t tell you how to solve your iCloud 3.x issues. Heck, I don’t think they’re even solvable.
But if you had a previous version of iCloud that was working correctly then I can definitely tell you how to solve the “iCloud Photo Stream is not syncing correctly to my Windows 7 PC” problem. …without even a re-boot.
Log out of iCloud 3.0 and uninstall it.
Open My Computer and then open your C:\ drive. Go to Tools/Folder Options and click on the View tab. Select the “Show hidden…” radio button and click on OK.
Open the Users folder.
Open your user folder
Open ProgramData (previously hidden folder)
Open the Apple folder – not the Apple Computer folder.
Open the Installer Cache folder
In Details view sort on Name
Open the folder for the newest entry for iCloud Control Panel 2.x – probably 2.1.2.8 dated 4/25/2013
Right click on iCloud64.msi and select Install.
When finished, the synching between iCloud and your PC will be back to working perfectly as before the 3.0 fiasco. The pictures will be synched to the same Photostream folder as before the “upgrade”. Now all you need to do is wait until Apple/Microsoft get this thing fixed and working before you try the 3.x upgrade again.
I think the iCloud 3.0 software was written by the same folks who wrote healthcare.gov with the main difference being that healthcare.gov might eventually be made to work.
For those of you who hate to go backwards, think of it as attacking to the rear. Which would you rather have, the frustration of no synching or everything working on an older version?
