Device syncing, multiple Windows users accounts

I have an old iPod, an iPhone, and an iPad. I've been using only 1 account on my computer for a while now, but I recently went to 2 accounts with another computer. Both accounts are usually signed in at the same time. However, when I try to plug in and sync a device on one account, iTunes tries to open in the other account and throws a bunch of errors at me (iTunes cannot open because it is in use by another user x10). When I plug my device in, iTunes is not open on either account. When I launch iTunes to sync the device, it tries to open in the other account too. I tried unchecking "Open iTunes when this device is plugged in" but it does the same thing. Is there anything I can do to stop this from happening? Thanks in advance.

The Desktop Manager only syncs with the default CICAL calendar on the device.
Take a look at this KB article. It talks about merging multiple calendars into one

  • Combining libraries from multiple Windows User Accounts

I've had a look through several pages in this section of the forum but couldn't find a direct answer to my question...so here goes:
We have a small network of three Win XP PCs and a Buffalo NAS drive. The main house PC has three Windows user accounts: Mum, Dad & Son. Each user account has an iTunes account of its own, so three iTunes IDs and three iTunes libraries.
What we would now like to do is bring the three libraries together in to a central library that will live on the NAS drive.
The central library will be accessed by some Sonos streaming music players. I've set up MS SyncToy to copy new music files over from each of the source libraries, but I'm not sure about handling the album artwork.
Is there a better way of combining three libraries so that the albums and artwork stay together?
Any help on this would be appreciated :-)

Does anyone have any thoughts on this? Or is there another forum here or elsewhere on the web where I might get a response?

  • ITunes setup on a NAS with multiple windows users - how?

iTunes setup on a NAS with multiple windows users?
I am very confused on what is the best way to handle this setup for my friends family.  Any help would be appreciated.  Sorry in advance as I know this is a long winded post - I have a feeling this will help others faced with the same issues or questions.
    CURRENT SETUP
I have three new Windows 7 machines networked (two desktops and one laptop) that have four users on each - as busy family with children who need the computers for homework, projects, games, etc...  The goal of this setup is that any user can log onto any computer and have there documents available to them no matter computer was free to use.  I set this up using the library function in Windows 7 and seems to work pretty well.
I have put a Buffalo Linkstation NAS on the system as well.  This was going to serve two purposes 1)  run some backup software to protect the computers and 2) consolidate the iTunes content in one place for all users.  There is also an iPad in the home that I should would be better served by accessing the content on the NAS without requiring any of the computers being on.  Dave is thinking about getting some other playback devices like Apple TV so thought a NAS would be a good way to go.
CURRENT ITUNES SETUP - I have created a new iTunes library on the NAS by holding the SHIFT button down while starting iTunes and pointed to that folder on a Share on the NAS.  There was no music on the system at the time as we are planning to copy this over from an OLD machine that is now not being used.  I have also authorized all the computers and turned on the home sharing feature (although I am not sure what good that does).
This “shift” button trick seesm to also point the default directory there without point to it in the advanced setup tab of iTunes.
I then synced one of the iPods with purchased content on it and synced that to the library after asking me to do so before an update.  All the content showed up in the library and was playable - awesome.
I then logged into each user on each machine (yikes) and installed iTunes  and used the “shift” trick to connect each users iTunes to the database on the NAS.  Everything seems to work - but I have not tested it thoroughly.
    SUMMARY
3 new Windwos 7 networked machines
4 identical users on each machine
    1 TB Buffalo linkstation
iTunes setup with the folder on a SHARE
all user’s itunes connected to the iTunes folder on the NAS
all computers authorized with home sharing turned on.
one iTunes user account signed in on each machine
multiple iPods and one iPad in the system
    QUESTIONS/CONCERNS
Is there a better way to do this on a NAS?
Would home sharing be better in some way?
I understand the NAS should show up under the shared section in iTunes - I assume that would mean that would mean each user has an iTunes library on their documents?
I have read that there may be corruption issues if users on the different machines try to access iTunes at the same time.
Will there be any issues syncing that various iPods with?
Ugh - sorry for the long post and all the questions.  I am just trying to find the best way to do this.  I wish Apple would put out a best practices document for setups like this.  Thanks in advance.

This is a user to user support forum. Your fellow users can offer solutions or workarounds based on their experience with the application. If you think it should work differently drop a line to iTunes Feedback.
For reasons unknown Apple haven't chosen to allow iTunes to be suspended in one profile and active in another. My recollection is that this applies even if each profile has a different library, although it is some time since I've committed a personal test.
I'm not sure why my suggestion make less sense that your current approach?. As I understand it currently everybody is either signed into their own account when they can do something other than work with iTunes, or they sign into the special iTunes account where they can't access any of their other stuff. You don't have to disable fast user switching. Follow exactly the same steps, but make sure everyone closes iTunes before turning the computer over to another user. Disabling fast user switching helps to enforce that action.

  • Is there a way to have two different iTunes for two different iPhones on one Windows User account?

    Using Windows 7, iphone 4.
I've read as many threads on these forums and as many kb's as I could find, but I sttill can't figure it out. I have 2 iPhones. Let's call them, "wife" and "hubby". I want to have two separate iTunes, one for each of the phones. Hubby is the Windoows User. I don't want to set up a different Windows User for wife.
Hubby was the original iPhone. When I plug it in, iTunes recognized it has Hubby's iPhone. Then I unplug Hubby and close iTunes. I plug in Wife but iTunes stll comes up with Hubby under Devices and syncs Hubby's iTunes to Wife's iphone.
I've tried using the shift key when I open iTunes to set up two separate .itl files to no avail.
Is there a way to have two different iTunes for two different iPhones on one Windows User account?
    Thanks!

What happens if you rename the iPhone "Wife" when it shows up as "Hubby", then choose a different set of apps/playlists to sync with? iTunes is supposed to be able to manage multiple devices, each with their own selection of content. Perhaps you "restored" "Wife" with a backup from "Hubby" when you first set things up which is now causing confusion.
To create a new library press and hold down the shift key as you click the icon to start iTunes and keep holding shift until asked to choose or create a library. You need to use the same technique to switch back.

  • ITunes settings reset with every new version, and I get: "...the information on the iphone is synced with another user account"

Windows 7 64-bit with MS Outlook 2010. I've seen this now probably 10 times. When I first installed iTunes, I selected:
Preferences -> Devices -> "Prevent iPhonse, iPhones and iPads from syncing automatically".
and on my iPhone, I selected:
Info -> Sync Contacts with: Outlook.
Info -> Sync Calendars with: Outlook
Info -> Other -> Sync notes with: Outlook
This works great, and the settings stick.  As soon as apple releases any new version (even minor) of iTunes and I install, I immediately receive: "...the information on the iphone is synced with another user account", and have to merge my calendar and contacts, but then once I get into iTunes, I find that ALL of the above settings (prevent syncing, sync calendar, contacts, notes) get reset and are turned off! I am running as a user account with Admin privaleges, but I don't right-click -> "Run as administrator" when I perform the iTunes update.
To reiterate, once I change the settings back, things work normally until the next iTunes update at which it gives me that sync error, and resets my sync options.
    Any idea? Thanks!
    -Brian

Is someone else using the PC and iTunes?
Create another user for the PC with your name, and try syncing that way.
This way it wont conflic with the other user.

  • 2 Windows User Accounts, 2 iTunes Libraries

I have iTunes set up on one of the user accounts, but when I logged into the other Windows user account and bought music, I could not sync it to my iPod.
Is there any way to transfer those songs to the other library, or am I gonna have to shell out another 10 bucks for songs I already bought? Any help would be killer.

    Hi, Super Jakelio!

  • Windows 8.1 Mail app and Exchange 2010 EAS partnership - "Make Windows user account an Administrator" to meet security requirements?

As the title says,  I have a new Windows 8.1 based device which I'm trying to connect to my Exchange 2010 box (SP3 Update Rollup 2).  I currently have my iphone set up as an EAS client with no problems.  I have an EAS policy on my mailbox
with the following settings surrounding passwords :
Require Password, Require Encryption, Allow Simple Password, Time without user input - 10 minutes.  Allow non-provisional devices is also checked.
The Windows 8.1 device has Bitlocker enabled, which meets the encryption requirement - I know this because the 1st time I tried this it moaned about Bitlocker needing to be enabled to meet requirements, though at that time the local user account on the Windows
8.1 device was an admin level account so it never mentioned this issue, it worked normally.
Now, while using a std user account on the Windows 8.1 device and trying to connect up via EAS, it complains that my local windows user account must be an ADMIN level account to meet the security requirements...?
    Anyone encountered this?

Did anyone solve this problem? I'm also struggling with this issue.
this is still a problem. I'm just hitting it now and it's not doing much for management's love of Microsoft devices.
Evidently, it has to be an admin to set the policies on the device to match the policies on the EAS. And once set, a user can be changed back.
But this is seriously not cool. Don't the "app" folks and the enterprise folks talk to each other?

  • Which is better having many Window User Accounts for the same person, so to have many Firefoxes or have many Firefoxes under one Windows Account User?

Right now I have around 6 Window User Accounts (just for me on one computer) because I did not know that I could put more then one Firefox per account. I have to leave the tabs up when I close Firefox because if I just bookmark them I wont finish my work I was doing with those sites. Now that I know how to put multiple Firefoxes under one user account. Which would make my computer fast or does it not matter, if I put all my Firefoxes on one Window user account or have 6 Window user accounts, each with their own Firefox?
    -Thanks

It is more work to switch to another Windows account then to open another Firefox instance with another profile.
If you only use the other windows accounts for using Firefox that way and not for other purposes then there is nothing against switching to only one Windows account to make it easier to manage things as backing up your personal data or copying your data between the other profiles.
So it is up to you if you want to switch to only one Windows account.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Yes, just plug it in to the computer, when iTunes is open in the second user account and you will be asked if you want to change the the sync settings on your mobile device.

  • Sharing one "Email account" between two Windows "user account" in a "Global Inbox"

Context: Two "windows user accounts" on a Windows XP PC, having the same email address. The "Local folder" is placed on a "All users" directory and acounts settings specify a POP server with a retention period of 30 days.
Problem: When User B ask for reception of messages, he received all messages already read by user B. (this probably due to separate popstate.dat).
On a previous PC two years ago, we do not had this dupplicate reading.
If you have a solution, could you also cover the Windows 7 case.
    Regards
    Dto75

I strongly suggest you get the whole profile in the same folder hierarchy before you even consider moving to windows 7.
    Windows XP has Program File
Windows 7 has Program Files and Program Files (X86) your executable goes in the x86 one.
    XP has applications data
    Windows 7 has appdata
In windows XP Thunderbird's profile is in application data in windows 7 it is in appdata/roaming
If you open explorer the old locations appear to be there, but they will not work to locate Thunderbird's disparate parts of it's profile
And so the list goes on. Hence none of the locations you know will probably exist under windows 7 so if parts of the profile are pointing to locations that have changed, only grief awaits you.

  • Synced to another user account??

After updating iTunes I get an error message when trying to sync my iPod Touch to my PC (Outlook).   It says I'm synced to another user account and asks if I want to merge or replace info.  I'm afraid to do either - not sure if I will lose all my info or duplicate all of it!
After searching the forums, I can't find any official response from Apple to many similar questions over the years.

  • How to reset the forgotten Windows user account password

I need Toshiba password reset! How do I reset Toshiba laptop? I would be appreciated if you help me Toshiba password recovery, etc. Well, so frequently to meet these problems in our lives. Today, we together share some ways to reset Toshiba password.
Solution1: Toshiba recovery disks help reset lost password
It only works if we created the recovery disks or CD before we forgot the password. The following listed are the steps to reset disk for Toshiba Windows 7 recovery:
    a. Start PC, log on Windows 7 and insert an USB flash drive into the driver.
    b. Start -> Control Panel -> User Accounts and Family Safety -> User Accounts -> Create a password reset disk.
    c. In welcome screen click Next and select the inserted USB flash drive, click Next.
    d. Input the login password in the password field and click Next. When progress indicator shows 100% complete, click Finish to exit. Remove the USB driver from PC.
The method is similar to create a Toshiba recovery CD. Now, the Toshiba Windows 7 password recovery disk is ok. Put it in a safe place for people may use it to reset your password.
Steps to recover password with created Toshiba password reset disk:
    e. Click Reset Password in the Windows 7 logon window,
    f. Insert the created Toshiba recovery USB disk into the USB driver interface, and click Reset password" to open Password Reset Wizard. Click Next to continue.
    g. Choose this USB disk recovery Toshiba from the drop down box. Click Next to continue.
    h. Input a new password and re-input it again to confirm. Click Next and then Finish to close the wizard.
Solution2: Reset Toshiba laptop by accounts with administrator rights
If there is default or built-in admin account or other accounts with administrator privileges and rights, we can use it for Toshiba password bypass. Take Toshiba XP recovery as example:
    A. Boot system from Safe Mode by pressing F8 when PC stars.
    B. Access PC with the available account with administrator rights and privileges.
    C. Start - Local Users and Groups lusrmgr.msc in the Search box ENTER - Local Users and Groups - choose Users.
    D. Right click the account with unlocked password, select Set Password and then input and confirm the new password.
Solution3: Reset Toshiba password with burned ISO image file
We can burn an .iso image file into a bootable USB disk or CD/DVD and reset the forgotten password easily and quickly. Take one of the most popular Windows password reset tool Ainorsoft Windows Password Recovery as example:
    a. Download the program from an accessible PC;
    b. Burn its .iso file to a blank CD/DVD or USB disk;
    c. Bypass the lost Toshiba password with the burned CD/DVD on the locked PC.
Things will not be tricky if we know the methods for Toshiba password reset once we forgot Toshiba laptop password! Please also remember to share them with your friends!

Thanks for sharing this but you are talking always about Toshiba passwordthis is wrong and I think this could be a little confusing this is a workaround for windows user account password.
As far as I know there are no password set by Toshiba.
The user can set the windows user account password if necessary so this workaround describes how to delete a Windows user account password which is common for all computers with preinstalled Windows OS.
    However, thanks for posting ;)
