Dial-up connection disconnects when importing CDs into iTunes

When importing a CD, my dial-up Internet connection disconnects after each song has finished importing. The importing doesn't seem to be affected, but I keep having to reconnect. This is very annoying!
Has anyone else had this problem, and how can I fix it?

This is also a known phenomenon on Macs with a dial-up connection.
For Macs there is a workaround, but no solution yet.
By using an Applescript, the firewall settings will be toggled on CD insert, preventing iTunes to contact Gracenote (to get track information).
I don't know something similar for Windows.
Maybe you can write some code yourself.
The URL to block (temporary) is "http://service.gracenote.com"
You can always get the track information later by selecting all tracks of an imported CD and choosing 'Get CD Track Names' from the Advanced menu in iTunes.

I don't use iTunes's "fetch artwork", so I'm not 100% sure, but unless you are signed in to your iTunes account, artwork is not automatic. Even then, iTunes doesn't always find it.
You can copy-and-paste artwork from the inernet, either Amazon or Google. I use 300x300 pixel images.
For the future, if you have iTunes questions, you might be better off posting them in the iTunes for Mac forum, this is iTunes for Windows. In this situation, it doesn't make any difference, but next time maybe it will.

  • Cannot import CDs into iTunes, disc is corrupted and unreadable error.

Cannot import CDs into iTunes, keep getting disc is corrupted and unreadable error. Advice would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance!

    Thanks for the reply!
I downloaded the program and ran it, got to the point where it says I have errors that need to be fixed... but it appears I have to pay for the rest of the program to actually repair these errors. Is this incorrect?
If I do have to pay, then I'd like to look for an alternative... the program is $40; of course, that's cheaper than buying a new iPod, but I want to avoid that too.

  • Importing CDs into iTunes - User Not Registered For Online Use

I am on Windows 8.1 Pro using iTunes 12.0.1.26 and am trying import CDs into my iTunes library.  When I insert a music CD in the album information and track names don't come in automatically.  When I try to manually get the information, I get an "User not registered for online use" message.
Request if I can be provided with some assistance on this. Importing CDs was no problem until I updated to iTunes 12.0.1.26 yesterday morning.
    Thanks.

Same issue - windows 7.  Worked fine yesterday - updated to iTunes 12 and now it is broken and I get the "user not registered for online use" ERROR.  Seems like the latest "upgrade" broke GraceNote access.

  • Importing CDs into iTunes for Macbook Pro

For Chrismas this year I recieved a new Macbook Pro. On my old computer I would import my CDs into iTunes to listen to music, rather than buying all new music that I already have! This is my first time owning any kind of apple computer and I have no clue how to do certain things on it! I would really like to import my CDs so I can listen to music, but this computer has no CD drive and I have no idea how to do so! I would really like to figure this out so I don't have to spend more money on music that I already own! Please help a confused new Mac user!! Thank you!

THAT'S the one I have and use with my Mini.
I got it four years ago for my daughter, with a Netbook, which has since been retired. It comes with a "dual" USB cable (2 into 1 - 1 for data,1 for power) but I got an AC adapter for the power so it only uses one USB port now. The dual cable comes in handy when you're on the go, though. No external power source needed.
It reads and writes (+and -) CD-Rs CD-RWs, DVD-Rs, DVD-RWs, single and dual layer. About the only thing it won't do is BluRay.

  • Problem importing CDs into iTunes

iTunes breaks some of my  imported CDs into multiple folders/albums. How can I combine these back into one album? I have tried drag/drop, but that does not work.

You need to make sure that artist and album artist are the same on all tracks

because i have the itunes librbary pointing to my external drive (which was formated and connected to my windows pc i think there may be a permissions issue because itunes plays the tracks but i cannot write to the drive of change its contents.

  • Can't import CDs into iTunes

This is a repeat of a problem that I reported back in Oct, but never got any solution. When I first installed iTunes on this computer I was able to copy a CD into iTunes with no problem. Since that time I haven't been able to copy another CD. I uninstalled iTunes and Quicktime, then installed the latest versions with no change in performance.
I really would like to change the tunes on my iPod before it wears out.

  • Importing CDs into iTunes

I import one cd into iTunes, but it appears as several cds. Example: Mozart's Requiem, it consists of 14 movements, i.e. 15 tracks on my CD, but in iTunes it becomes two albums, one with tracks 1-13, one with track 14 only. Is there a method for turning this into one album, so I can play the whole piece continuously? (Yes, I know I can put them into a playlist, but that's another story.)

Generally setting a common Album title and Album Artist will fix things.

  • I am having an issue importing CDs into iTunes.

When I import a CD into iTunes, certain songs are separated into a different "folder".  It seems as though they are songs where another artist is involved in the song.  I want the entire CD in one place.  Can anyone help?

If you have an album with multiple artists, but you want them grouping together in folder (and also within the 'Artists' section on iPod) - ensure that the tag of 'Album Artist' is the same for everysong - for instance "Various Artists"
This means that itunes will still keep the album together both in its source folder AND in iTunes even though you may have a "Hits 2012" album for instance.

  • HT203175 keep getting error code 81 when trying to import cds into itunes

since installing itunes 11 i keep getting a error message which says an unkown error occurred (81) when trying to impoprt cd's
any ideas as to why would be helpful thanks.

That one's consistent with disk/file damage. The first thing I'd try with that is running a disk check (chkdsk) over your C drive.
XP instructions in the following document: How to perform disk error checking in Windows XP
Vista instructions in the following document: Check your hard disk for errors
Windows 7 instructions in the following document: How to use CHKDSK (Check Disk)
Select both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors, or use chkdsk /r (depending on which way you decide to go about doing this). You'll almost certainly have to schedule the chkdsk to run on startup. The scan should take quite a while ... if it quits after a few minutes or seconds, something's interfering with the scan.
Does the chkdsk find/repair any damage? If so, can you get an install to go through properly afterwards?

  • What's a good strategy plan to import CDs into itunes library

I have lots of CDs I'd like to import into my itunes library. What's a good strategy plan? Creating categories, playlist, etc will help?

When you rip each CD, make sure that all the tag info is correct, including titles, artist, album, and genre. Then, once the tracks are in the library, you can use the built-in iTunes capabilities for sorting.
There is no need to set up individual playlists per album; rather, use playlists for special lists or compilations that you make. When you are ready, learn how to use the smart playlist functionality, as it adds a lot of control and fun to your listening.

  • How to import CDs into iTunes 12 library without CD 'breaking up' into dozens of icons?

I realize this question has been asked before; however, nothing I do (according to the solutions I've read thus far) fixes these two problems described below (with examples)  (BTW, using a Dell PC).  I lie not when I state that I've spent HOURS on this; don't want you to think I'm a lazy assed nard who can't be bothered to look up stuff myself, but this sh** has me ready to tear my hair out.
    1.  Album imported from CD does not import all the songs.  I receive no error message.  For example, AC/DC Back in Black comes up with Tracks labeled:
    1; 2; 6; 7; 8; 9; 10.
At one time, all tracks were there and "joined"; have no idea how they became "free floating."  Tried ordering them in different ways (by Album, Artist, etc.)  Doesn't work.
    2.  Tried to import a 3 CD disk ("I'm Not There" from B. Dylan movie); I get ~30 different Albums/icons in my iTune library.  Tried to follow directions for joining compilation albums with different artists, but nothing works.  One suggestion was to sort by track number but I've search high & low and cannot find any such command.  Tried the menu, tried to hit the top of the column -- nada luck.
I know everyone has heard this before, but why, oh why does Apple insist on changing simple things for merely the sake of change??  I've always been a booster for Mac & Apple but dude, this is getting on my last nerve.
Person who bothers to read this and help me, I'll light a candle for you at church (if you're so inclined).

  • Is there a way to import CDs into iTunes 11 without importing songs that are already in my library?

Prior versions of iTunes would ask whether I wanted to import duplicate songs when I inserted a CD, but this feature seems to have gone away in iTunes 11.  (Though if this feature does exist and can be enabled, that would be the ideal solution.)  Importing the entire CD and then searching and deleting duplicates is less than optimal, as I have a massive music library and a lot of CDs to import, many with duplicates.  Thanks in advance!

    No. Its not possible.
Alternatively, create another user account in your computer. Install iTunes in that account with the library you wish to sync.
