Did the iTunes update  just   kill my iPod?

Earlier today, I updated my copy of iTunes on my computer at work while I had my iPod plugged in and charging. (Normally I wouldn't update iTunes, but wasn't paying attention and kinda pressed "ok" without thinking)
Now I can't use my iPod.
After installing iTunes and restarting, I got a message saying "iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode. You must restore this iPod before it can be used with iTunes."
I've tried going through the restarting and restoring process a million times over, using the newest version, using the original one on it, ANYTHING. I can get as far as iTunes saying "your ipod has been restored to factory settings....restarting... blah blah blah"
Then it either restarts and doesn't show up again.. or as what seems to mostly happen, it'll start the whole "iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode. You must restore this iPod before it can be used with iTunes." process again.
I'm frustrated to no end!
Also interesting to note is that the "do not disconnect" and "okay to disconnect" screens on the iPod itself don't look the way they normally do on the iPod Classic. they're non-backlit and look like the ones from my old 4th gen iPod (I have no clue what they look like on the 5th gen).
PLEASE can someone help me out or point me in some way to something that can help ?

THe update messed up my 80gb too. I spent over an hour on the phone with Apple care yesterday - and they screwed it up even worse. (I manage music & video from my home computer and my calander from my work computer.) It used to work fine - now I can't even get my work computer to recognize the ipod as a USB drive! If they would just re-post 7.5, I think I could fix it myself - but they took it off the site completely.
I told (both people at) Apple care that this is the kind of crap microsoft pulls. They send out updates with bugs. Apple is supposed to NOT do that! I am so mad right now! I just got this brand new ipod for Christmas.
Today, I am supposed to order my new laptop for work. I have been given the choice of PC or Mac. Until yesterday, I was gun-ho Mac. Now I'm not so sure. I mean - they couldn't fix my new ipod after an hour on the phone? What kind of issues am I going to have with a laptop? The closest Apple store is well over an hour away.
Any suggestions??

  • Did the thunderbolt update just kill my ability to use my external monitor?

My external monitor stopped working after performing tonight's software updates. 2011 MBA 13inch running 10.7.4  Computer takes 2 minutes to boot to a grey pattern on the MBA and an all blue desktop on my external.  Boots fine when I unplug the monitor and reboot.  Any idea what's going on?

update #2:  It's not the display/thunderbolt port...it's the USB adapter connected to the monitor (serving as a hub)...wont boot when plugged in, boots fine when I unplug it and wait to plug it in until after booting...only devices plugged in to the monitor are my external drive and an iphone cable.  Never experineced this problem before, only change made was the software updates.  It's definitely not trying to boot off the external (same problem no matter what's plugged in to the monitor).

Is anyone else having this problem?
I tried to re-install and got the following message:  iTunes was not installed correctly.  Please reinstall iTunes.  Error 7 (Windows error 1114)
Does this mean I have now lost everything?

I just had the same error:

I went to http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1925 and did a complete removal and reinstallation of iTunes. You MUST follow the directions here exactly...it's more than just iTunes that must be removed, and it MUST be done in the order in which the support article says.  I followed the exact instructions, and iTunes is back on my machine (no more C runtime error) and you do NOT lose your music...it's all in my library, as it was before.
    Good luck!

  • I did the iTunes update and now I am getting a Windows error 126 message.

I did the iTunes update and now I am getting a Windows error 126 message. Now I can't use iTunes at all. Any ideas?

Click here and follow the instructions. You may need to completely remove and reinstall iTunes and all related components, or run the process multiple times; this won't normally affect its library, but that should be backed up anyway.

Download iTunes using the tab at the top of this page, re-install.  Back up your computer first.

  • Did the iTunes update & now it won't work at all!

I downloaded the iTunes update 2 days ago, and now iTunes won't work because it needs 10.4.9+ & all I have is 10.4.8
I tried to download the 'Combo' 10.4.11 but it crashed my system (the 'Restart' hung with turning wheel for over 2 hours) & I had to reboot from disk at the cost of several hours.
I only use iTunes for listening to the radio worldwide, nothing else. I have no iPod, have no purchased music.
Is there any way to uninstall the update? iTunes was just fine for me before the update.
Or, is there any way to install the 10.4.11 from a friend's disks? - since it's just an 'Update' which is available online, it doesn't sound like it would be illegal, but I want to keep "Kosher". I am assuming that even though the downloaded update crashed my system, loading from disk should work.
Any help would be appreciated - I am not very computer literate, so the simpler the better!
    -Erik

Finally solved the problem by going back to an older version of iTunes, which I found on FileHippo.com - I chose version 7.0 since I had no idea what older version I used to have.
The uninstall was the hard part, but these instructions did the trick:
    http://www.oldapps.com/forum/showpost.php?p=925&postcount=34
Even then, when I got the "iTunesSetup.exe", clicking on it got the message:"iTunes library cannot be read because it was created by a later version of iTunes". Apparently some fragment of the "update was hiding somewhere.
I finally solved this by right-clicking (option+click) on it.
So now I have iTunes back & have no need for the "Combo Update"
At this point, having had a week of frustration from that worse-than-useless "Update", I have no intention of messing with any more "Updates". This computer is, and will remain a 10.4.8 machine.

  • Did the iTunes update fix the BSOD problem?

iTunes was crashing this morning (with that C++ runtime error that several others were complaining about). I updated iTunes and it fixed the problem.
Does anyone know if this update fixed the "Logitech Web Cam causing the BSOD when syncing iPhone on to a Dell Computer" error?
I only ask because now when I sync my iPhone, windows recognizes it as an iPhone now, and not a Camera anymore. I just wanna know if I can reinstall my WebCam Driver again.
Is there somewhere that lists what kind of fixes were in the last update?
    Thank you
    Dell XPS m1210   Windows XP

No it did not. There are no iPhone enhancements or fixes in 7.3.1
It fixes an itunes library problem on the desktop or laptop that is all, and does not effect anything related to the iPhone.

  • Did the Itunes update fiasco of 2014 kill my sound card?

I have read every post regarding  this Apple fiasco but this has been a perfect storm of Apple failure for  me, the only reason I opened my Itunes 2 nights ago was because my Ipod  of 5 years died and I had to buy a new one, so my love for Apple has  diminished greatly in the last 24 hours.
Running: Microsoft windows XP media center edition version 2002 service pack 3.
I  know enough about computers to be dangerous, I may have deleted  something for the sound card trying to get this Itunes re-install to work. I've been able  to follow everything posted like:https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5822688?tstart=30 I have deleted EVERYTHING more than once, restarted MORE than once, I  even tried loading an older version of Itunes, but the problem I'm  running into is my sound card can't or won't be detected, it was working  fine before this fiasco so I'm not sure if it's the re-install that has  caused it to be undetected or maybe it just died at the perfect time. I  keep getting this message: I tunes has detected a problem with your aiudio/video configuration and playback may not operate properly.  I  can see video but no sound, I can get into my Itunes library but  nothing will play, my sound card doesn't even show up in my devices  section anymore.
I  read a post that said something about messing with the msconfig and the  inetcpl.cpl and the dxdiag in the START/RUN area so I may have done  something stupid.

  • Why did the iTunes update screw up the already installed iTunes on my computer?  I can't sync my iPod to my computer because it now says iTunes was installed incorrectly.  Re-install iTunes.  I've tried to install it 3 different times.  It's NOT working.

I had attempted to update my iTunes so I could go ahead and clear out some of my songs on my iPod that I no longer care to listen to at the moment.  When I finished updating and attempted to open iTunes, I was given an error
These are the two error messages.  I've tried uninstalling and re-installing several times.  Still receiving the same errors....  Help.

    Hi carmekino,
Try using the following article to help you uninstall iTunes and its related components, keeping in mind that these components need to be uninstalled in this specific order:
Removing and reinstalling iTunes and other software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1923
Use the Control Panel to uninstall iTunes and related software components in the following order and then restart your computer:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
    Apple Mobile Device Support
    Bonjour
Apple Application Support (iTunes 9 or later)
Important: Uninstalling these components in a different order, or only uninstalling some of these components may have unintended affects.

  • I attempted to perform the itunes update on two different PCs and itunes will no longer open and I received a message to reinstall itunes. The reinstall did not work and I now receive a Runtime error message (R6034) re: library loading incorrectly. Help?

I attempted to perform the itunes update on two different PCs. Itunes will no longer open and prompted me to reinstall itunes.  The reinstall did not work after several attempts and I received an error: "Runtime error R6034. An application has made an attempt to load the C Runtime library incorrectly. Please contact the application's support team for more information."  Has anyone else had this issue? How can I resolve it?

I've been having the same exact problem this morning, and from the looks of it a lot of other people are posting about this issue, so I don't know if it's maybe something wrong with the download but I'm just relieved that it seems to be that instead of a corruption issue with my windows installation.  I'm just wondering how long this will take to be resolved.
