Difference between Internal HU and External HU
Hi guys,
I am quite new to WM, can you please tell me Difference between Internal HU and External HU
The HU information is stored in table VEKP (header) and VEPO (item). In the header table you can find Internal HU No (VENUM). This is the internal SAP number automatically assigned as the table key each time you create an HU. However, the HU aslo has an external number (EXIDV) which is the number of the HU that is used when marking the HU. This number allows for a longer ID than the internal number if you want to use.
Here is the documentation for EXIDV.
Short Text
External Handling Unit Identification
Definition
Specifies an external identifier for the handling unit.
Use
The system automatically generates an internal number that must be unique for each system client. The system also needs external identification so that it can uniquely identify handling units.
1. Creating a handling unit:
Identifiers for handling units are determined during creation according to settings in Customizing for number assignment of the packaging material type for the packaging material that is being used. You can also assign default values for identifiers when you create handling units, although these values must correspond to the settings in Customizing.
2. Processing a handling unit
To edit existing handling units, enter the handling unit's identification in this field.

Difference between Internal type and External type
Hi,
I was trying to load data to a DSO from a flat file.
while loading data to the field type 0calmonth, input was in format yyyymm. And on activation of data, it would give me an error.
I want to know what is the difference between the internal format and external format.
Thanks and Regards,
Radhikahi
SAP Internal format : YYYYMMDD.
If u load the date fields in this format,SAP changes this field into User reqired format as
MMDDYYYY
DDMMYYYY.
DD.MM.YYYY
DD/MM/YYYY
These setting are user specific.

Differences between Internal Format and External Format
Hi experts,
When I was importing master data from InfoObject in BW, there's an option selection in the screen of Data Manager. Its name is Choose format and two selectable options are:
1. Internal Format
2. External Format
I looked into help of BPC and it says:
Choose the Format
Note:
The External Format calls the Output conversion routine of the InfoObject.
The Internal Format does not call the Output conversion routine.
I'm not sure what is Output conversion routine of the InfoObject. Could you help me to understand it?
Thanks,
TonyHi Tony,
In BPC Data Manager, you will find Conversions, in that you will find
External and Internal formats. This means if you are importing a flat file where in
Example your date format in that file is 31-10-2009, but our Internal format (BPC format)
will not accept it. Our internal format is 2009.OCT. So accordingly you have to
mention that. It may be for any dimension like Accounts, Product and so on.......
I hope this may help you.

Difference between material group and external material group
Hi,
Can anybody let me know the difference between the material group and external materila group from the business perspective.
ThanksHi Raghunandan,
Material Group : Materials having similar attributes will be goruped together and assigned to a Material Group.
Material groups are Extensively useful during :
Limit the Scope of Analysis
Reporting Purpose
External material group : Key that you can use to assign the material to an external material group or to a material group determined according to external systematics.
In General, External material groups are nothing but external representation of group of material which are extensively used in supply souce determination for provions materials related to retail and some other functions
In short if your Internal material group for example bearing is 0001 you can group externally further based on manufacturer like FAG for NRB. No accounting activity is based on it

Difference between internal and external session
Hi experts,
I tried to read it many times but I am still very confused with it.
1. Each logon through Sap Logon will create a new external session? New Mode created through /o will create another internal session in this external session? Is it OK?
2. When are the data deleted from Sap Memory which are allocated through the command SET PARAMETER?
Thank you very much for your answers,

Difference between line type and internal table?
Hi..
I wanted to know, what is the difference between Line type and Internal Table?Hi,
Before the 4.7 release in SAP if we want to define an internal table we have to write the defination using the occurs statement and we need to define all the fields using INCLUDE STRUCTURE or indidually all the fields ine by one.
From 4.7 release of R/3 SAP introduced the Line type concept and it's part of the ABAP OOPS concept. for internal table defination we don't need to use the occur statements. Instead INCLUDE structure we need to create a Line type for that structure in Se11 and then we can define the internal table like :
DATA : ITAB TYPE TABLE OF <LINE_TYPE>.
Only thing is this table will be a table without header. So for internal table processing we need to define a work area structure of type line of line type . EX:
DATA: WA_ITAB TYPE LINE OF <LINE_TYPE>.
Hope this helps.

Difference between work area and internal tables.
Hi I wanna know the difference between work area and internal tables.
what happend if i give with out header line in internal table.
also how to assosiate work area to internal table in that scenario.Hi Balaji..
The internal table is an ABAP runtime object which has two parts the Body and the header.
Whereas a work area cannot have a body.. It is mere a field or group of fields which can hold values at runtime..
In the SAP higher versions mySAP ERP, the use of tables with header line is made obsolete.. But there is absolutely no problem with the same..
Just think that when you define an internal table with occurs or with header line statement, the system automatically creates a workarea with this table, using which you can access the contents in the bosy of tyhe table.. You can read a record from the table body to this header or add a record in the header to the internal table body..
When you work with a table ITAB without a header line, you can not use statements like READ TABLE, APPEND, INSERT etc without giving an explicit work area..
Suppose i have an internal table like:
DATA : itab TYPE STANDARD TABLE OF t001.
This table will not have a header with it.
If you will use APPEND itab. The compilor will give error.
Here i will create a work area with same structure of the table.
DATA : e_wa TYPE t001.
Now i will write:
APPEND e_wa TO itab.
READ TABLE itab INTO e_wa WITH KEY xxxxxx
LOOP AT itab INTO e_wa... etc..
In a better approach we use Field symbols with such tables, instead of structures
FIELD-SYMBOLS: <fs_itab> TYPE t001.
So,
LOOP AT itab ASSIGNING <fs_itab>
READ TABLE itab ASSIGNING <fs_itab> etc.. However we can not use field symbols in few cases..
I hope this will help you..
Thanks and Best Regards,
Vikas Bittera.

Difference between business area and profit center
hi all
could you please tell me about difference between business area and
profitcenter.
thanks,
regards,
chennuri.HI
Read below
Profit Center - The profit center view shows the various
internal areas of responsibilities. Objects such as cost
centers, materials, etc can be used for profit center
analysis. Profit center can be used to determine the
revenues, costs, and profitability for specfic areas of
responsibility.
Business Area - Business area forms an important part of
external reporting. Analysis of various segments, product
divisions, regions etc is possible using business areas.
Business Area: This is optional
This can be used cross compane codes
This is for Internal Purpose
It is not Legal Entity like Co Code
The transation entered in Business are, Debit total will
not tally with credit total
Since it is used for segment wise or area wise or line wise
this is used for internal report purpose only .
Balance Shhet and P & L stataments can be drawn on segment
wise
Profit Centre: Generally in terms of SAP or Finance the
meaning of Profit centre is to know the profitabilty.
In same manner , The managers wants to know the ROI from
their investments, obviously we nned to use the tool.
This ROI may be geographically or area wise or division
wise. P.C provided us profitablity of the particular area
for internal purpose ( Only for Internal )
Business Area is an optional entry.Whenever company wants
financial statements businessarea wise we can maintain
BAs.And also we can maintain BA as Segment Wise,Product
Wise,Geographical Location wise.
Profit center is used to know the profits of companies.PC
is also used for to know the profits as aProduct
wise,Segment wise,geographical location wise.If anything
wrong inthis answer plz correct me..
Hope this helps

Hi Friends ....Difference between SAP memory and ABAP memory
Hi Friends,
I faced a interview and they ask this question
What is the difference between SAP Memory and ABAP memory..conti
SAP Memory
SAP memory is a memory area to which all main sessions within a SAPgui have access. You can use SAP memory either to pass data from one program to another within a session, or to pass data from one session to another. Application programs that use SAP memory must do so using SPA/GPA parameters (also known as SET/GET parameters). These parameters can be set either for a particular user or for a particular program using the SET PARAMETER statement.
Other ABAP programs can then retrieve the set parameters using the GET PARAMETER statement. The most frequent use of SPA/GPA parameters is to fill input fields on screens.
ABAP Memory
ABAP memory is a memory area that all ABAP programs within the same internal session can access using the EXPORT and IMPORT statements. Data within this area remains intact during a whole sequence of program calls. To pass data to a program which you are calling, the data needs to be placed in ABAP memory before the call is made. The internal session of the called program then replaces that of the calling program. The program called can then read from the ABAP memory. If control is then returned to the program which made the initial call, the same process operates in reverse.
A simple example of ABAP memory is using the EXPORT/IMPORT statements.
Here in this program, I get the data, export it to memory,
clear out the internal table in my progam, then reimport the data into it and write out the data.
You probably wounldn't do this in a normal program,
but this is how you can pass data from program a to program b when A Submits program B.
report zxy_0002 .
data: it001 type table of t001 with header line.
select * into table it001 from t001.
export it001 = it001 to memory id 'ZXY_TEST'.
clear it001. refresh it001.
import it001 = it001 from memory id 'ZXY_TEST'.
loop at it001.
write:/ it001-bukrs, it001-butxt.
endloop.
SAP Memory
SAP memory is a memory area to which all main sessions within a SAPgui have access.
You can use SAP memory either to pass data from one program to another within a session,
or to pass data from one session to another.
Application programs that use SAP memory must do so using SPA/GPA parameters (also known as SET/GET parameters).
These parameters can be set either for a particular user
or for a particular program using the SET PARAMETER statement.
Other ABAP programs can then retrieve the set parameters using the GET PARAMETER statement.
The most frequent use of SPA/GPA parameters is to fill input fields on screens
ABAP/4 Memory
ABAP memory is a memory area that all ABAP programs within the same internal session can access
using the EXPORT and IMPORT statements.
Data within this area remains intact during a whole sequence of program calls. To pass data
to a program which you are calling,
the data needs to be placed in ABAP memory before the call is made.
The internal session of the called program then replaces that of the calling program.
The program called can then read from the ABAP memory.
If control is then returned to the program which made the initial call, the same process operates in reverse.
SAP memory
The SAP memory, otherwise known as the global memory,
is available to a user during the entire duration of a terminal session.
Its contents are retained across transaction boundaries as well as external and internal sessions.
The SET PARAMETER and GET PARAMETER statements allow you to write to, or read from, the SAP memory.
ABAP/4 memory
The contents of the ABAP/4 memory are retained only during the lifetime of an external session
(see also Organization of Modularization Units).
You can retain or pass data across internal sessions.
The EXPORT TO MEMORY and IMPORT FROM MEMORY statements allow you to write data to, or read data from, the ABAP memory.

Differences between ABAP Programming and Dialog Programming
Can any one explain me the Differences between ABAP Programming and Dialog Programming
Hi,
ABAP PROGRAMING:
An ABAP program consists of individual ABAP statements. Each statement begins with a keyword and ends with a period.
PROGRAM FIRST_PROGRAM.
WRITE 'My First Program'.
This example contains two statements, one on each line. The keywords are PROGRAM and WRITE. The program displays a list on the screen. In this case, the list consists of the line "My First Program".
The keyword determines the category of the statement. For an overview of the different categories, refer to ABAP Statements.
You can execute different parts of programs conditionally or in loops using the standard keywords IF, CASE, DO, and WHILE.
When controlling the flow of an ABAP program, remember that the structure of the program is made up of processing blocks that cannot be nested. This section describes how to control the flow of a program within a processing block. The keywords covered here do not allow you to branch outside the processing block in which you use them. You can regard this as internal control of an ABAP program, as opposed to the external control provided by events in the ABAP runtime environment.
To control the internal flow of a processing block, you can use control structures to divide it up into smaller statement blocks according to the principles of structured programming.
DIALOG PROGRAMING:
This is a classical programming method that is based on dynpros and dialog transactions.
Classic Application Programming
Separating the application layer from the presentation layer means that when you run an ABAP application program requiring user interaction, control of the program is continually passed backwards and forwards between these layers. While a screen is ready for input, the corresponding SAP GUI of the presentation layer is active. During this time, the application layer is not active for the application program. Therefore, the ABAP application servers are free for other tasks. Once the user has entered data on the screen, program control passes back to the application layer. Now, the presentation layer is inactive. The SAP GUI is still visible to the user during this time, and it is still displaying the screen, but it cannot accept user input. The SAP GUI does not become active again until the application program has called a new screen and sent it to the presentation server.
Consequently, if you use this method, you need to divide dialog programs into single dialog steps, with each of these steps comprising the programming logic between two successive screens.

VASAVI.

Difference between Material type and Item category
What is the difference between Material type and Item category?
We can differentiate different kind of materails according to material type then why do we have Item category which is also more or less on the same lines.
Both can be considered as a terminology in SAP to group similar kind of materials.
Please let me know the exact difference between the two?Dear Christino
We can list out so many differences.
When you create a material master record, the material type you choose determines:
- Whether the material is intended for a specific purpose, for example, as a configurable material or process material
- Whether the material number can be assigned internally or externally
- The number range from which the material number is taken
- Which screens appear and in what sequence
- Which departmental data you may enter
- What procurement type the material has; that is, whether it is manufactured in-house or procured externally, or both
Together with the plant, the material type determines the material's inventory management requirement; that is:
- Whether changes in quantity are updated in the material master record
- Whether changes in value are also updated in the stock accounts in financial accounting
In addition, the accounts affected by a material entering or leaving the warehouse depend on the material type.
-Most importantly, Users can be authorized to create materials of specific material types but not based on item category
- Item category will define whether the material should be valuated for stock or it should be considered as non-stock
- Pricing is carried out based on Item Category and not based on Material type

Difference between Session method and call transaction
Hi,
please give me the differences between session method and call transaction,
briefly explaining synchronus , asynchronus, process, update.
Thanks in advanceHi Vijay Kumar
CLASSICAL BATCH INPUT (Session Method)
CALL TRANSACTION
BATCH INPUT METHOD:
This method is also called as CLASSICAL METHOD.
Features:
Asynchronous processing.
Synchronous Processing in database update.
Transfer data for more than one transaction.
Batch input processing log will be generated.
During processing, no transaction is started until the previous transaction has been written to the database.
CALL TRANSACTION METHOD :
This is another method to transfer data from the legacy system.
Features:
Synchronous processing. The system performs a database commit immediately before and after the CALL TRANSACTION USING statement.
Updating the database can be either synchronous or asynchronous. The program specifies the update type.
Transfer data for a single transaction.
Transfers data for a sequence of dialog screens.
No batch input processing log is generated.
http://www.sap-img.com/abap/difference-between-batch-input-and-call-transaction-in-bdc.htm
Among the two methods call transaction is better compared to session bcoz data transfer is faster in it.
Differences between call transaction and session.
Session Method:
1) Data is not updated in the database table until the session is processed.
2) No sy-subrc is returned.
3) Error log is created for error records.
4) Updation is always synchronous.
Call Transaction Method:
1) Immediate updation in the database table.
2) sy-subrc is returned.
3)Error need to be handled explicitly.
4) updation can be synchronous as well as asynchronous.
2) ya u can use using the N mode no screen.
3)u can't handle multiple transaction in call transaction.
4) u can handle multiple transaction in session using the BDC_INSERT fm.
5)When u go to SM35 u can able to see the error records.
Which is best?
That depends on your requirement. Both of them have there advantages.
According to the situation u can choose any one of these.
difference between batch input and call transaction in BDC Session method.
1) synchronous processing.
2) can tranfer large amount of data.
3) processing is slower.
4) error log is created
5) data is not updated until session is processed.
Call transaction.
1) asynchronous processing
2) can transfer small amount of data
3) processing is faster.
4) errors need to be handled explicitly
5) data is updated automatically
For session method, these are the function modules to b used.
BDC_OPEN_GROUP
BDC_INSERT
BDC_CLOSE_GROUP
For call transaction, this is the syntax.
CALL TRANSACTION TCODE USING BDCDATA
MODE A or E or N
UPDATE A or S
MESSAGES INTO MESSTAB.
Take a scenario where we need to post documents in FB01 and the input file has say 2000 records (2000 documents, not line items in FB01 but 2000 records)
In the BDC call transaction method
We call the transaction FB01 2000 times (once for each record posting) and if the processing fails in record no 3 it can be captured and start with reocord 4.
Eg: Loop at itab.
call transaction FB01
capture errors
endloop.
In the session method.
We do not explicity call the transaction 2000 times, but all the records are appeneded into a session and this session is stored. The processinf of the session is done wwhenever the user wants it to be done. Hence the errors cannot be captured in the program itself
Check these link:
http://www.sap-img.com/abap/difference-between-batch-input-and-call-transaction-in-bdc.htm
http://www.sap-img.com/abap/question-about-bdc-program.htm
http://www.itcserver.com/blog/2006/06/30/batch-input-vs-call-transaction/
http://www.planetsap.com/bdc_main_page.htm
Batch Input Session method is asynchronous as told by others here. But the advantage of this is that you have all the error messages and the data for each transaction held persistantly. You don't have to code anything for processing them or writing the logs.
But at the same time, the same feature can be disadvantageous if you need to react to an error or if there are too many errors to manually correct in a session. Since the session are created in the program and its execution is done seperately, you loose the trackability of such transactions.
With a call transaction, what was a disadvantage above will become an advantage. Call transaction immediately gives you messages back and you can react to it in your program. But the disadvantage is that, if you have several hundreds of transactions to run, running them from within the program can be resource crunching affair. It will hamper the system performance and you cannot really distribute the load. Of course, you have some mechanisms with which you can overcome this, but you will have to code for it. Also, storing the messages and storing the errored transaction data etc will have to be handled by you in the program. Whereas, in batch input session, your program's job is to just create the session, after that everything is standard SAP system's responsibility.
Ideally, you should do a call transaction if the resources are not a problem and if it fails, put the errored transaction into a session.
You can decide based on the data volume that your BDC is processing. If data volume is high go for session else call transaction will do.The call transaction updates will be instantaneous where as session needs to be processed explictly after creation.
Session Method
1) Session method supports both small amount of data aswell as large amount of data
2) data processing is asynchronus and data updation is synchronus.
3) it process multiple apllication while perfomaning validations.
4) in session method data will be updated in data base only after processing session only.
5) system provide by default logfile for handling error records.
6) it supports both foreground aswell as background process
in bdc we use FM ...
bdc_open_group " for creating Session
bdc_insert " adding transaction and bdcdata table for updating database
bdc_close_group " for closing Session
Call Transaction
1) Call transaction exclusively for small amout of data
2) it supports only one apllication while perfoming validations
3) there is no default logfile, We can explicitly provide logic for creating logfile for handling error records.
we can create logfile by using structure....BDCMSGCOLL
4) it doesn't support background processing.
5) data processing is synchronous and Data updation is Synchronous( default), in
this method also supports daya updation in asynchronus process also.
syntax:
Call transaction <transaction-name> using BDCDATA
mode <A/N/E>
update <L/A/S>
messages into BDCMSGCOLL.
BDC:
Batch Data Communication (BDC) is the process of transferring data from one SAP System to another SAP system or from a non-SAP system to SAP System.
Features :
BDC is an automatic procedure.
This method is used to transfer large amount of data that is available in electronic medium.
BDC can be used primarily when installing the SAP system and when transferring data from a legacy system (external system).
BDC uses normal transaction codes to transfer data.
Types of BDC :

Difference between Session method and Call transaction method
Hi,
Difference between Session method and Call transaction method in BDCHi,
SESSION method:
Is a standard procedure for transferring large amount of data into the R/3 system.
Data consistency is ensured because batch input uses all thje checks conducted on the normal screen.
It is a two step procedure:
1. Progarm: creates batch input session. This session is the data file that includes everything to begin the transaction.
2. Process session: Which then actually transfers the data to database table.
In this method an ABAP/4 program reads the external data that is to be entered in the SAP system and stores the data in a session.
A session stores the actions that are required to enter your data using normal SAP transactions i.e. data is transferred to session which inturn transfers data to database table. Session is an intermediate step between internal table and database table.
Data along with it's actions are stored in session. i.e. data for screen fields, to which screen it is passed, the program name behind it and how next screen is processed.
When the program has finished generating the session, u can run the session to execute the SAP transactions in it.
BDC_OPEN_GROUP
You create the session through program by BDC_OPEN_GROUP function.
1) User Name: User Name.
2) Group : Name of the session
3) Lock Date : The date when you want to process the session.
4) Keep : This parameter is passed as 'X' when you want to retain session even after processing it.
BDC_INSERT
Data is transferred to session by BDC_INSERT.
BDC_CLOSE_GROUP.
With this function the session will be closed.
CALL TRANSACTION method.
Syntax: call transaction <tr code> using <bdctab>
mode <A/N/E>
update <S/A>
messages into <internal table>.
<tr code> : transaction code
<bdctab> : Name of the BDC table
mode: mode in which you execute the transaction.
A : all screen mode ( all the screens of the transaction are displayed )
N : no screen mode ( no screen will be displayed when you execute the transaction )
E : error screen ( only those screens are displayed where in you have error record )
Update type:
S: synchronous update in which if you change data of one table then all the related tables gets updated and SY_SUBRC is returned for once and all.
A: asynchronous update in which if you change data of one table, the sy-subrc is returned and then updation of other affected tables takes place. So if system fails to update other tables still sy-subrc returned is zero.(that is when first table gets updated ).
messages: if you update database table, operation is either successful or unsuccessful. These messages are stored in internal table. This internal table structure is like BDCMSGCOLL.
TCODE: transaction code.
DYNAME: batch input module name.
DYNNUMB: batch input dyn no.
MSGTYP: batch input message type.
MSGSPRA: batch input language id of message.
MSGID: message id.
MSGV1 .MSGV5: message variables
For each entry which is updated in the database table message is available in BDCMSGCOLL.
Reward if useful

Srinu
