Different max photo sizes in emails, beams, photo stream?

I've noticed differences in file sizes when emailing photos from the iPhoto app, when inserting in an email, and when emailing directly from the photo.  I've found that iOS 6 is able to send the largest file when inserting it into an email. If I select email from iPhoto, the full size option is a fraction of that. If I email a photo directly from the photo itself, the full size seems to be somewhere in-between.  I sent a panoramic photo three times, once using each method. Each time I selected to send the FULL file sizes, and each time they were different:
iPhoto: 1918K
insert in email: 12004K
email from photo itself: 3529K
Is there a reason iOS 6 does this?
Why are the full photo file sizes not universal?
Are the max file sizes being uploaded to photo stream?
What is the best way to get the largest photo jpg off of the iPhone aside from syncing?

John,
You have several options for re-sizing photos, though (continuing from what V.K. has already stated). If you want to "customize" the size of each photo, you'll need to do so before you attach them to an email. They can be re-sized in iPhoto, or they can be opened in Preview and exported as whatever size you like.
If your images are in iPhoto, select one, then choose File>Export. Use the export dialogue to select the size and compression of the resulting file, save it to someplace like your Desktop, then attach it to an email. The choices, here, are the same as they would be within Mail, but will be applied on an image-by-image basis.

I'm no longer able to select the file size when emailing a photo. How can I solve this? iPhone 4S with iOS 7.1.1. Thanks a lot.

Yeah - I tried that, several times; each time I get "iTunes is restoring the software on this iPhone" and after about 30 minutes the screen on the phone lights up again with the same screen I had before.  After that ... nothing.

  • Reducing photo size for email

I'm stumped ... how do I reduce the size of photos for e-mail?

If you are using a client supported by iPhoto you simply select the photo(s) and click email - one of the options is JPEG compression and another is photo size
If you are using Apple Mail then you have a second selection available in the lower right hand corner of the mail create window
If you are using a non supported client including a web browser then you must export the photos first reducing them as part of the export process

please , size ipod 20gb 4th photo is as size "not photo" ?

    Lemarr,
These units are also referred to as "iPod with click wheel". The iPod classic is smaller than yours. I do not believe a cover for one will fit yours.

  • Can you move a photo that was emailed to "Photos"

If someone emails me a photo can I move it to the iPhone's Photos albums to store and keep on my phone?

if they mail it to an address for your MBP, then you can drag and drop onto iphoto and import it and then sync it to your iPhone as a photo.

  • Reduce photo size

I have tried following all the possibilities for reducing a photo size for email.
I do not get any options for reducing the photo size when I attach a photo in an email, I get no pop up boxes or choice to reduce the picture size.
    Any clues please

if i get the question right - you have phtos on your pad, and want to up[load them to somewhere, but they are too big.  if that is the case, here is a workaround - until somebody smarter comes through with the right solution.
Mail the photo to yourself.  I just mailed a photo that was in i photo at 4.1 meg to myself.  When it arrived, it was 104 k.
If you mail it from the camera roll it will also reduce size.  you can then save that new image, and upload it.

  • Photos sent through email too big?

I have an iphone 3gs. Now my problem is that sometimes when i attach a photo to an email the photos turn out too big. Like when i view the message on a laptop it occupies more than 100% of the screen. the pictures are huge. Has anyone got a solution to this? i posted this question in yahoo answers and was told that there is an option to send a smaller version of the pics but i can't find it. help?

i did a bit of research and have figured out how to make the picture smaller. go to photos app then copy the thumbnail version of the picture and paste it in the email message and that's it.

  • How to I Delete a Photo From My Email Identity?

A random photo appears in email I send to others.  I prefer no photo.  I don't know how the photo was inserted so I don't know how to delete it.
Haven't been able to find anything in settings that relates to inserting a photo in your emails.

The photo is not sent with your email.
This is the photo you have for your contact info in your contacts. Select your contact info in contacts followed by selecting the Edit button for your contact info. Select the photo for your contact info followed by selecting Delete Photo. Select Done when finished.

  • Why can't I email my photos?

My iPhoto doesn't recognize my identification ... I do have terrible problems with passwords ... they don't sync and I have to put new ones in over and over!  I end up taking my MacBook Pro (new) back to Best Buy where it takes 10 days for them to figure out what's wrong.  I'm ready to toss the device into the bay.  The main reason I bought this computer was to work with and share photos.

Are you emailing the photos from the mail app? From the photos app? Are you having any other problems with sending emails? Are other emails with attachments arriving at their destination?
Can you supply any more information that might make it easier to offer useful suggestions?

Try Quick Edit. Under the smart fix tab you simply push the fix slider to the right.

  • Emailing smaller photos, despite selecting actual size in iphoto and mail

Everytime I select to email a photo from iphoto, and select actual sized in both iphoto and apple mail program it makes it smaller.  I looked at every preference i could find and dont see what is making it do this.  It is not do to the size i can send out throught the server.  Even small picture files are made smaller.

The relationship between the quality of an image and the file size is quite complicated. You can have a very large image that's as blurry as all get out, you can have quite a small one that's sharp as a tack.
What do you want to do with these photos? Further editing in a lossless editor? File size is not so important. Editing in a lossy editor, file size is important. Screen display? Unimportant. Printing? Quite important and so on.
Remember too, iPhoto exports photos and puts them into files. You can alter the level of compression applied to jpegs, or export to a different format altogether, using the File -> Export dialogue.
The key question is what you want to do with the photos.

  • I am trying to send a photo in an email and the file is huge. I remember something about sending the file with less detail and therefore reducing the size.  How?

I am trying to send a photo in an email and the file is huge.  I remember something about reducing the size of the file but of course can't remember how.

Use a utility such as Graphic Converter to  change the image to a jpeg using options to reduce the size of the converted image.

My photos shrink in size when emailed from IPHOTO or attached - How can I fix this. My friends say they can't see my pictures... thanks!!

When you email from iPhoto, you have a choice as to the size of the picture - choose medium and your friends will be able to see them.  By the way, do your friends click on the photo attachment  in the mail to open it?

  • Emailing photos from iPhoto 09 via Mail always produces same photo size

I'm trying to email photos from iPhoto 09 using the Email button. No matter what photo size I choose (Small, Medium, Large, Actual Size) in the subsequent compose dialogue the resulting email always shows a small embedded photo. Any tips?

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
You also need to set the size in the New Message Window in Mail
