Different NetWeaver Certifications

Hi experts,
i know there are different NetWeaver Certifications like:
1. SAP Certified - Powered by SAP NetWeaver
2. SAP Certified - Integration with SAP Netweaver
3. Solution Extension
4. SAP Certified - Integration with Applications
5. SAP Certified - Integration via Enterprise Services
6. Endorsed Business Solution
7. SAP Certified - Integration with Business Objects
What are the differences? I know the side https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/icc but I think this information here is either to "high-level" or to "complicated" for me. Is here somebody who have a slide or a documentation about the relevant differences and the most decisively about each certification type. That would be perfect. Thank you very much and regards, A.

I was involved in 2 types
Powered by SAP NetWeaver : SAP checked only technicle compatibility
Endorsed Business Solution : SAP deployed product as per Deployment guide on ICC servers . Tested product end-to-end as per Test plan provided by us. Namespace was registed for ABAP. AAK purchased.

  • Netweaver Certification

    Hi Friends,

    Hi Lakshmi Prasad,
I have done SAP Certified Development Associate - Java with SAP NetWeaver 7.0 last yr in TechEd.
If u know Wedbynpro then u can go for this certification. Its course contains, webdynrpo basics, nwdi, core java, servlets, jco, ejb, jms and webservices. In my exam there were 13sections related to these topics and overall passing % was around 60. Questions were from course books itself but these are not straight forward qs. They check ur knowledge by asking indirect qs. U can have multiple choice qs n single choice. Mostly multiple choice. The course books n there contents are:
JA100- core java and jco,eco fundamentals
JA300 -EJB ,SAP NetWeaver Application Server Java system Architecture,Servlets and JSP
JA331-Providing and Consuming Web Services,Java Mail API, JMS,Java Connector Architecture/SAP Java resource adapter
    JA310-WebDynpro for Java development

  • Need clarification on SAP NetWeaver Certification

I am having six months experience in SAP. Now I have planned to take NetWeaver certification. I know the following ways.
    1) Attend an Instructor-led ABAP Certification Academy(25 working days, 8hrs/day, 5 days/week, approx Rs.3 Lakh) at an SAP Education Center or Partner such as Siemens, Genovate etc.
    2) Attend an e-learning course at an SAP Online Contact Center(flexible times, no instructor, approx Rs.1,25,000)
    3) Get your company to endorse your ABAP Experience and sponsor your certification(approx Rs.28000, exam only, no materials, no training!)
    4) Register for SAP TechEd and hope they offer a complimentary certification like they do every year(3 days, lots of fun, should be around Rs.15000, no training, a few materials)
But I heard that there is one more way of doing that, without affording such a big amount and having less experience. Is that true? Can anyone help me out?
    regards
    prabhu

    Hi Ravi
Suppose a note X says corrections are delivered in the attached correction instruction, then its enough if we implement that specific note X.
=>Before implementing those correction verify whether that X note applicable to your system release. Also verify is any manual code correction instructed in that note.
If we go to correction instruction then it may have several other notes, do we need to implement all those notes specified in correction instruction 1st and then implement main note or directly we can apply Main note X.
=> Before implementing those correction verify whether that X note applicable to your system release or its already implemented in your system. All these Prerequisites need to implement before final correction.
If we apply main note obvisoulsy all the notes within correction instructions will be implemented.
=> No we need to implement Prerequisites notes before main notes.

    Hi,
I think there is nothing like "SAP NetWeaver" Certification. You must be talking about one particular area of Netweaver for certification:
Check this link which is having listing of all SAP exams:
    http://www50.sap.com/useducation/certification/examcontent.asp
Choose the exam from link and check the contents and weightage of topics.

errors when running SAP Enterprise Portal with an Oracle database?
    A. by decreasing the maximum number of processes and sessions in the database.
    B. by using the Oracle Enterprise Manager (or DBA Studio), decrease the process
    numbers
    C. by increasing the maximum number of threads and logs in the database.
    D. by increasing the maximum number of processes and sessions in the database.

    password?
    A. the user ID and password are transmitted in plain text using HTTP POST
    B. it takes longer hours to update the LDAP server
    C. it requires additional configuration steps to enable CHAP
    D. SAP does not support Single Sign-On with user ID and password
    Question 1 Explanation:
For SAP Enterprise Portal, the load-balancing solution should ensure session persistence,
or “stickiness.” This means that all requests of a specific user in a single session are
forwarded to the same server. Stickiness is achieved at initial logon, by linking to the IP
address and local port of the load-balancing system. If one node fails, the other servers
assume the tasks of the failed node without any pause in operation or loss of information.
    Question 2 Explanation:
Portal Content Directory (PCD) is a file system which stores roles and role components,
and page-to-role relationships. It also stores deployable (PAR) and master iViews
(written in Java) with their personalization data and derivations (Java iViews, External
Services). The PCD stores a copy of the page catalog.
    Question 3 Explanation:
The portal server needs read/write access to its PCD file system.
    Question 4 Explanation:
Roles are maintained with the Role Editor in both SAP Enterprise Portal 5.0 and 6.0. The
Role Editor is a Web-based tool for creating roles and hierarchies and for assigning
content objects to roles. In EP 5.0, the Role Editor is a central tool which can be used to
create and edit External Services, master iViews and worksets as well as roles. Other
editors are available for the administration of pages and iViews. In EP 6.0, the Role
Editor is embedded in the central administration environment for the development and
administration of content: the Portal Content Studio. This administration environment can
be used to call all editors for the creation and administration of content, including the
Role Editor. Only roles can be created and edited in the Role Editor.

    Question 5 Explanation:
Authentication provides a way of verifying the user’s identity before he or she is granted
access to the portal. Once the user has been authenticated, he or she is issued a SAP
logon ticket that allows him or her to access all the applications, information and services
in the Enterprise Portal using Single Sign-On. Since many of these applications may
contain sensitive data, it is imperative that the user in question can be identified and this
    identity authenticated.
The process of authentication is based on each user having a unique set of credentials for
gaining access. For example, with user ID and password authentication, the
authentication server compares a user’s authentication credentials with other user
credentials stored in a data repository. If the credentials match, the user is granted access
to the Enterprise Portal. Otherwise, the authentication fails and portal access is denied.
The Enterprise Portal 5.0 offers the following integrated authentication mechanisms:
    • Authentication with User ID and Password
    • Authentication with X.509 digital certificates
    • Authentication using external mechanisms
    ¡ Windows 2000 authentication
¡ Authentication Against User Data in SAP R/3 System
¡ External Web access management tools, such as Netegrity SiteMinder
¡ COM interface allowing you to use any kind of external authentication service
Note that you must use one method of authentication for all users. The only exception is
authentication with digital certificates. Digital certificates can be used as an additional
method of authentication. This means that users that have a client certificate use it to log
on while other users have to provide credentials using a different authentication
    mechanism.
    Question 6 Explanation:
The recommendation is that do not place more than fifty (50) objects in a single folder.
    Question 7 Explanation:
The Enterprise Portal Plug-In (WP-PI) enables the exchange of data between SAP
Enterprise Portal and the mySAP.com components, for example SAP R/3 and SAP BW.
It is a prerequisite to enable Drag&Relate and Single Sign-
    Question 8 Explanation:
The Page Builder assembles the pages that are displayed in the Enterprise Portal. It gets
information about the navigation between pages and the layout of the pages from the
roles assigned to a user. Information about which roles are assigned to which users is
stored in the portal LDAP directory.
    Question 9 Explanation:
The operating system collector SAPOsCol is a stand-alone program that runs in the
operating system background. It runs independently of SAP instances exactly once per
monitored host. SAPOsCol collects data about operating system resources, including:

    • CPU utilization
    • Utilization of physical disks and file systems
    • Resource usage of running processes
    • Process monitoring
    Question 10 Explanation:
User access to content is determined by Role definitions. A portal role is a collection of
content. While portal content is developed to enable access to information relevant to the
organization in which the portal is deployed, roles define the subset of content available
to each functional role within the organization. Users are assigned to the role or roles that
provide content relevant to them. A user has access to the content that has been assigned
to all of his or her roles.
    Question 11 Explanation:
J2EE Engine cluster is a set of independent nodes that are addressed and managed as a
single system. The cluster consists of two types of nodes: dispatchers and servers. The
administrator of the system determines the number of dispatchers and servers in a cluster.
Each dispatcher node is connected to all server nodes in the cluster and each server node
maintains connections to all other cluster nodes. Clustering enables dynamic load
balancing by distributing client requests among the server nodes in the cluster, thereby
providing higher scalability and improved system performance
    Question 12 Explanation:
Users and passwords are defined in the directory server. To enable those users and
passwords for portal logon, you must define a security configuration, using the portal
tools. However, in order to do so, you need to log on to the portal. The first time you log
on to the portal, you log on as a default, predefined user, called admin, using the default
password, admin. After you have defined a security configuration, you may continue to
log on as user admin, or you may log on with the user information defined in the
    directory server.
The admin/admin logon provides you with access to the portal as a fully qualified superadministrator.
Note that administrator access is enabled via Microsoft Internet Explorer browsers only.
There is no administrator access via Netscape browsers.
    Question 13 Explanation:
Load balancing is dividing the work of one computer among several computers so that
more work gets done in the same amount of time and all users get served faster. You can
implement a hardware or a software load balancing solution.
    Question 14 Explanation:
The role definition determines the navigation structure within the portal. The navigation
structure consists of the top-level navigation bar, and the detailed navigation tree. The
top-level navigation bar is a series of tabs in the title area of the portal header. A user
navigates portal pages and services by clicking tabs in the top-level navigation bar.

    Question 15 Explanation:
When the user performs a Drag&Relate action in the front end, the client sends a HRNP
(hyperrelational navigation protocol) request to the Unification Server through HTTP.
The Unification Server resolves the relationship between the drag source and the drop
target, and queries the database and/or applications to determine the record set. Then it
redirects the result set to the Portal Server and launches the screen which appears in the
    browser.
    Question 16 Explanation:
If you are using basic authentication, we strongly recommended that you set up the
browser and portal Web server to communicate using Secure Sockets Layer (SSL).
Otherwise users‘ credentials will be transmitted in clear text.
    Question 17 Explanation:
The SAP System has Release 4.0B or higher. SAP logon tickets are not supported in
    releases lower than 4.0B.
    Question 18 Explanation:
Reverse Proxy Filter enables the portal to do the following:
    • Check all HTTP requests coming to the portal platform.
    • Distinguish between the following HTTP requests to the portal: those coming from
external sources, such as the Internet and outside the firewall of an enterprise, and those
coming from internal sources, such as the intranet within the firewall.
    • Replace the scheme, host, and port number in an HTTP request.
    • Respond to more than one domain name using different proxy servers.
    Question 19 Explanation:
An iView is handled differently by Enterprise Portal depending on whether it is invoked
from an Internet Explorer or Netscape browser. In Internet Explorer, each iView in a
portal page is contained in an iFrame. Each iFrame is a distinct container, independent of
the other containers. In Netscape, each iView is contained in an HTML table. When
multiple iViews are displayed in a portal page in Netscape, you are actually viewing a
single HTML page formatted into HTML tables.
    Question 20 Explanation:
Content Admin tab provides the tools for creating portal-related content, such as roles,
    iViews, pages, Web components.
    Question 21 Explanation:
Portal applications are configured according to the logger.xml configuration file. Various
portal applications place information into different log files. SAP recommend that you set
log levels in production environments to WARNING or ERROR.
    Question 22 Explanation:
SAP JCo is a middleware component that enables the development of SAP-compatible
components and applications in Java. SAP JCo supports communication with the SAP
SAP Enterprise Portal Fundamentals Certification questions

server in both directions: inbound calls (Java calls ABAP) and outbound calls (ABAP
calls Java). So, SAP JCo realizes communication between the ABAP and the J2EE
environments that can be used in SAP Web AS.
    Question 23 Explanation:
You use the cryptographic tool SAPGENPSE to generate a keystore in which you can
store a certificate. You only need this keystore for storing the root certificate of the portal
Web server. It is therefore not necessary that you send the generated certificate request to
    your CA.
    Question 24 Explanation:
The entire portal administration is performed using administration roles contained in the
standard content of the portal. The administration roles contain all the functions possible
    for portal administration.
The standard delivery of SAP Enterprise Portal 6.0 contains four administration roles, all
of which subdivide the existing administration tasks into the following four groups:
    • Super Administration (containing all administration tasks)
    • Content Administration
    • System Administration
    • User Administration
    Question 25 Explanation:
You implement the Knowledge Management (KM) platform of the Enterprise Portal to
enable unstructured content management, and sophisticated search and retrieval
functionality over unstructured content in disparate information repositories. The
knowledge management platform also provides collaboration functionality, such as
sending messages, annotating documents, and setting up discussion groups.
    Question 26 Explanation:
SAP Enterprise Portal Fundamentals Certification questions

    Question 27 Explanation:
The Enterprise Portal iView interface enables you to create and manage portal channels
and iViews. When you open the interface, a list of iViews and channels is displayed,
along with a set of tools that let you create and maintain channels and iViews. In this
section, we describe the main functions of this interface.
iView Editor screen: (1) Search Tool, (2) Toolbar, (3) Channel List, (4) iView List
    Question 28 Explanation:
The user management component of the Enterprise Portal is an extensive application
programming interface (API) that allows iViews to read data from the corporate LDAP
directory and to read and write data to the portal LDAP directory. It also provides Single
Sign-On functions and Authentication of portal users against user repository.
    Question 29 Explanation:
Single Sign-On (SSO) is a key feature of the Enterprise Portal that eases user interaction
with the many component systems available to the user in a portal environment. Once the
user is authenticated to the enterprise portal, he or she can use the portal to access
external applications. With SSO in the Enterprise Portal, the user can access different
systems and applications without having to repeatedly enter his or her user information
    for authentication.
The Enterprise Portal SSO mechanism is available in two variants depending on security
requirements and the supported external applications:
    • SSO with SAP logon tickets
    • SSO with user ID and password
Both variants eliminate the need for repeated logons to individual applications after the
initial authentication at the enterprise portal. Whereas SSO with SAP logon tickets is
based on a secure ticketing mechanism, SSO with user ID and password forwards the
user’s logon data (user ID and password) to the systems that a user wants to call.
    Question 30 Explanation:
Channels, used to organize iViews into logical groups, are also assigned to roles. While every iView
must be assigned to a channel, not every iView is associated with a page. A user has access to the
iViews displayed on the pages in his or her portal. When personalizing portal pages, the user will also
have access to the iViews in the channels assigned to his or her roles.
    Question 31 Explanation:
There is a permissions concept for portal objects in SAP Enterprise Portal 6.0. It is valid for all objects
of the Portal Content Directory that can be maintained with a special editor (Permission Editor) in the
portal. Portal permissions mainly define the access rights of portal administrators to portal objects in
the Portal Catalog. The access permissions are implemented with the Access Control List (ACL)
    method.

    Question 32 Explanation:
In a load balanced landscape with multiple portal server installations the lock server is the portal
component that enables the components of the middleware layer to work concurrently with the
persistence layer, notably with the Portal Content Directory (PCD) and the database server.
The middleware layer is installed as clients that access the persistence layer and the shared resources.
Each middleware client must not interfere with other clients accessing and modifying the same
resources, therefore there is the need to implement a concurrent control mechanism.
The control mechanism is a synchronization process over TCP/IP at port 3299. Through the port, the
lock server identifies the specific process request coming from each middleware client. It then allows
access to the shared resources and the persistence layer. By so doing, each portal works with a
consistent view of the shared resources. Portals communicating with the lock server become the lock
    clients.
    Question 33 Explanation:
Web Dynpro is a browser-based, device-independent technology which provides a runtime and a
development environment for professional business Web applications. Web Dynpro delivers a
declarative meta-model to minimize the need to write programming code. From this abstract definition,
Web Dynpro generates code to create a ready-to-run Web application.
    Question 34 Explanation:
The Enterprise Portal includes two user management master iViews that you can modify to suit your
company’s requirements and integrate in the portal. These are:
    • Self registration master iView: Allows users, for example, external users that do not exist in the
corporate LDAP directory, to register themselves as portal users.
    • Change password master iView: Allows users to change their password and optionally other user
    data.
    Question 35 Explanation:
    For the portal cluster:
    • To guarantee proper portal functionality, external load-balancing solutions must always
implement stickiness, using either a source-IP or cookie-based distribution policy.
    • All machines in a portal cluster are covered by a license installed on any of them. However, for
high availability purposes, you should install a license on at least two portal machines,
although a license on each machine is recommended. In this case, if the machine with the
single license is stopped for more than an hour (the period of time during which the license is
cached), portal operation will not be interrupted.
    Question 36 Explanation:
My Pages tab contains the default Welcome page plus the pages assigned to all of the roles to which
the logged on user is assigned. My Pages display iViews, small applications designed to retrieve
    information from various information resources.
    Question 37 Explanation:

If you have a mixed system landscape including both SAP and non-SAP systems, we recommend
that you use a corporate LDAP directory as a primary store for central user data. Also use this
option if you have a large number of users in your system landscape.
In the above figure, a system running CUA is used to administer user data from several SAP
ABAP systems centrally. The user data from the CUA is synchronized with a corporate LDAP
directory. The UMEs of any standalone J2EE Engines are configured to use the corporate LDAP
directory as data source. Third-party systems can also access user data on the LDAP directory.
    Question 38 Explanation:
The Unification Server enables your Portal for Drag&Relate (hyperrelational navigation). This means
that you can relate business data across applications and/or databases for which you have installed a
unifier on your Unification Server. Moreover the Unification Server provides functions to display data
    from the installed database unifiers.
    Question 39 Explanation:
To enable high load and avoid errors when running SAP Enterprise Portal with an Oracle database,
increase the maximum number of processes and sessions in the database.

Make sure no one is currently using the database, as you must restart the database server.
To change the number of processes on an Oracle database server:
    1. From the Oracle program group in the Windows Start menu, go to Database Administration >DBA
Studio, and log on to your Oracle database using DBA Studio as user SYSDBA.
    2. Open the Database branch and choose: Instances > Database.
    3. Choose All Initialization Parameters.
    4. Scroll down the list of parameters to the processes property and increase its value (e.g. 150).
    5. Verify the increase with your DBA.
    6. Scroll down to the sessions property and increase its value to 1.2 multiplied by the number of
    processes.
    7. Choose OK and then Apply. You are prompted to restart the database server.
    8. Restart the IIS and the Oracle server.
    Question 40 Explanation:
When Single Sign-On with user ID and password is used, the user ID and password are transmitted in
plain text using HTTP POST. We strongly recommend that you protect the connections to the SAP
System using HTTPS or SNC to prevent the user ID and password being eavesdropped by an external
    party.
I hope it will help you.
Dont forget to award points if it looks useful.
    Thanks,
    Murthy.

  • SAP Netweaver Certification

    Hi friends
I am planning to appear for SAP NetWeaver Examination( SAP BASIS).  I have couple of queries.
    1.     Could you please confirm the latest version of TADM10,TADM12 & TADM51 documents. I have all these documents with 2005 quarter 4 version. Are these sufficient to clear the latest SAP NETWEAVER 7 BASIS examination. If not, then what is the latest version.
    2.     Also, could you tell me how long is the validity for  C_TADM51_04 paper.
    Many Thanks for your help

    Hi,
1.These TADM10,TADM12 & TADM51 books are not for sale, hence not sure about the latest version. Check out with SAP authorized training centers. These documents are sufficeinet for certification.

  • Netweaver Certification (TADM 10,12,51)

Are the course books TADM 10, 12 & 51 sufficient to clear out WAS certification exam? What is the passing % & evaluation technique?
Also want to know is the type of exam paper different for experience consultants & the people who take only course training  and appear for certification?
    Regards,
    Madhu

    there is 2 section.
    40 questions on JAVA stack.
80 question on ABAP stack + database
you must get over 70% of each section to get your certification.
the courses you talk about are enough as I passed this certification with these courses (and with 8 years SAP experience)
if you read question/answers at the end of each chapter and are able to answer them easily, then, the exam will be easy. if not, re-read the chapter until you master it.

  • Want to know , different sun certifications

    Hi,
I am an IT proffesional , presently working on Jboss portals and portlets.
    I also cleared sun1.4, a month before.
I want guidance, which other sun certifications, i can give , which help me for my professional- upliftment.
Please reply me, so that I can register for another sun certification.

    you're a rude, incompetent, fool.
Not only do you revive old threads which have no relation to your question, your question is easily answered by doing a bit of research of your own.
If you're incapable of doing that you lack the intelligence to pass the exams.
If you are unwilling to do your own research there's no reason why anyone should help you as noone should want you as their potential colleague.

SAP also provides a series of templates for building collateral and demos that are pushed out through the SAP intranet to the entire SAP global field sales force. In addition, SAP makes the library of Powered by SAP NetWeaver solutions available to customers through both online and printed materials distributed by SAP. On occasion, SAP will hold seminars, Webinars, and road shows with select partners to co-market the partners’ Powered by SAP NetWeaver solutions.
What are the major reasons an ISV should switch now from Oracle, BEA, or Microsoft to SAP NetWeaver?
Most ISVs will support more than one platform. We believe that SAP’s unique position as a true Applistructure provider makes SAP NetWeaver compelling as a primary platform of choice for ISVs who are looking to make full use of Enterprise Services Architecture and realize the potential of web services.
What does it cost to become a member of the Powered by SAP NetWeaver Partner Program?
There is no fee to join the Powered by SAP NetWeaver Partner Program. There are, however, costs associated with individual elements of the program, including certification, training, and test/demo software licenses, when needed.
What does the Powered by SAP NetWeaver certification process entail?
Several options exist for third-party applications to become Powered by SAP NetWeaver and achieve integration certification with the Powered by SAP NetWeaver branding. Current opportunities include the following:
    Portal Integration
All Powered by SAP NetWeaver endorsed solutions have a certified integration into SAP NetWeaver Portal, usually via certified business packages.*
*[exceptions are SAP NetWeaver XI adapters and some ABAP add-ons]
    J2EE Applications
J2EE applications are certified for deployment on the J2EE Engine in SAP NetWeaver AS.
    ABAP Add-Ons
ABAP add-on applications are certified for deployment on the ABAP stack of SAP NetWeaver AS and proper packaging via the ABAP add-on assembly kit. Some SAP NetWeaver Portal integrations may be accomplished via SAP GUI for HTML instead of the business package integration mentioned above.
    SAP NetWeaver XI Adapters
SAP XI adapters leverage the easy and efficient integration of third-party applications on the process and content level via the SAP NetWeaver Exchange Infrastructure component.
    SAP NetWeaver XI Content
SAP NetWeaver Exchange Infrastructure offers a complete EAI solution that integrates SAP business system applications as well as non-SAP business solutions (A2A and B2B scenarios). SAP XI content includes all information and knowledge necessary to enable the integration of applications and business processes (collaboration knowledge). Additional certification of XI Content for interoperability with industry standards is also available.
Details of the certification process can be found in the accompanying Powered by SAP NetWeaver Partner Program presentation.
What technical assistance will I receive along the way?
We offer three types of technical assistance:
The SAP Developer Network (SDN) web site: SDN is a community of fellow developers who work with SAP NetWeaver technologies. Please join this community to participate in online forums, Webcasts, and Weblogs around SAP NetWeaver. On SDN you will also find a dedicated SAP ICC Web site containing documentation materials for all integration scenarios above.
SAP Education: SAP education offers basic training for SAP NetWeaver and its different components. Please check the ICC web site on SDN for recommended training classes.
For companies with a valid certification agreement with SAP ICC: SAP assigns an SAP ICC technical consultant(s) to each ISV to provide integration-certification specific education and knowledge transfer in SAP NetWeaver. SAP ICC offers integration consulting and can provide certification testing either remotely or on-site at the SAP ICC certification lab.
What software and licenses do I need?
We provide free trial licenses of software components for development and testing (J2EE engine, SAP NetWeaver Portal, SAP NetWeaver Developer tool, and portal development kit (PDK) on SDN).
SAP sales offices provide in-house licenses – for example, ABAP development workbench and SAP Partner Connectivity Kit for SAP NetWeaver XI adapters.
The ICC provides hosted test systems, SAP XI and back-end SAP ERP systems suitable for XI Content certification
How long will it take to complete the Powered by SAP NetWeaver certifications?
The complexity of the application and the integration scenario you select generally determines the timeline. For J2EE deployment, our experience indicates that the average time it takes for certification is three weeks. SAP NetWeaver Portal and iView window and business package integration takes another three weeks. Previous experience integrating with enterprise portals via iView windows or portlets and deploying on J2EE application servers has proven helpful. The duration may therefore greatly differ from vendor to vendor. As a rough estimate for ABAP add-on and SAP NetWeaver XI adapter certification, approximately two to six months are needed to complete a project from registration to publication.
We currently run our application on the IBM WebSphere Application Server (or the BEA WebLogic platform), and customers are very happy with that. Why should we support SAP NetWeaver AS, which is newer and less well-known?
ISVs can reduce their customers’ TCO and risk by adopting a platform that is quickly becoming the de facto standard among Global 1,000 customers: mySAP Business Suite, powered by SAP NetWeaver. Additionally, SAP NetWeaver is the technology foundation for all new SAP products going forward. As such, it will be implemented at more than 60,000 global SAP installations. Partners can take advantage of this rapidly growing ecosystem by providing customers with solutions that can quickly integrate with SAP NetWeaver.
You should also browse through the information in the SAP/J2EE migration kit.
Why are there both “Powered by SAP NetWeaver” solutions from SAP and “Powered by SAP NetWeaver” partner solutions?
SAP is using SAP NetWeaver as the technology platform to power all SAP solutions, including mySAP ERP, mySAP CRM, SAP Industry Solutions and SAP xApps. Partners can take advantage of the large and growing installed base of SAP NetWeaver, and leverage the platform that is already installed, thereby lowering the implementation costs of their “Powered by SAP NetWeaver” solutions and lowering the customer’s TCO (total cost of ownership). SAP-built “Powered by SAP NetWeaver” solutions will therefore run side-by-side with partner-built “Powered by SAP NetWeaver” solutions.
What is the difference between Powered by SAP NetWeaver solutions and the SAP xApps portfolio of packaged composite applications?
Except for SAP NetWeaver XI adapters, a certified Powered by SAP NetWeaver solution can be almost any type of enterprise application that runs on SAP NetWeaver AS and integrates with SAP NetWeaver Portal as the user interface. On top of that, the SAP xApps packaged composite applications meet the requirements of Powered by SAP NetWeaver and are consistent with the architecture, features, and functions of a true composite application.
SAP xApps composite applications combine web services and data from multiple systems in an application design made possible by the SAP Composite Application Framework tool within the SAP NetWeaver platform. This framework includes the methodology, tools, and run-time environment to develop composite applications. It provides a consistent object model and a rich user experience, and it gives developers a productive way to create composite applications on top of a set of heterogeneous applications. In addition, SAP xApps composite applications are uniquely differentiated in that they are innovative and highly complementary to SAP applications.
Where can I find more technical information about SAP NetWeaver?

SAP NetWeaver Portal Business Package Integration
What is required for a business package to pass certification?
All requirements of the business package certification are specified in the test plan, which can be requested from your SAP ICC. The technical requirements for successful certification of a business package include:
Support single sign-on (SSO) to SAP NetWeaver Portal (where applicable).
Adhere to the SAP NetWeaver Portal look and feel (branding)
Provide full support for at least one web browser that is also supported by SAP NetWeaver Portal.
What tools can I use to develop a business package?
We recommend using SAP NetWeaver Development Studio as the integrated development environment (IDE) for your development. In addition, SAP provides the Portal Development Kit (PDK), which provides a wealth of documentation, tutorials, and tools to help you with your content development. The PDK for the Java platform, as well as the PDK for the .NET platform, can be downloaded free from SDN for SAP NetWeaver Portal 5 (only Java) and SAP NetWeaver Portal 6 - see the SDN Download Catalog.
Our application does not require authentication. Do we still need to support SSO requirements for business package certification?
No. The basic idea behind the SSO requirement is to eliminate the need for further manual authentications for an end user who has already logged on to SAP NetWeaver Portal. If your back end (and thus the business package) does not need to authenticate users, this requirement does not apply to your business package.
How can a business package support SSO with SAP NetWeaver Portal?
A business package can implement SSO with SAP NetWeaver Portal in either of the following ways:
SSO based on user mapping, where the portal user is mapped to another user in the external system of the business package. (For information on user mapping-based SSO, see the SAP Library.
SSO based on SAP logon ticket, where the business package retrieves the information about the logged-on user in SAP NetWeaver Portal and verifies it so that the external system can authenticate the user. (As part of the PDK 6.0, please see the javadoc for the class com.sap.security.api.ticket.TicketVerifier as part of the user management service APIs.)
See the SSO-related Weblogs on the SAP ICC homepage on SDN.
    J2EE Deployment
What versions of the J2EE standard does SAP NetWeaver support?
SAP NetWeaver supports two versions of the J2EE standard:
    J2EE 1.2: SAP NetWeaver AS 6.20
    J2EE 1.3: SAP NetWeaver AS 6.40
What Java Development Kit (JDK) versions does SAP NetWeaver require?
    Two JDK versions are required:
SAP NetWeaver AS 6.20: JDK 1.3.1 or higher version, below JDK 1.4
For supported platforms, please contact the SAP ICC.
SAP NetWeaver AS 6.40: JDK 1.4.2_07 or higher version below JDK 1.5
SAP supports the following platforms (latest operating system patches as of March 2005):
    Solaris SPARC 32 Bit + 64 Bit
    Linux 32 Bit + 64 Bit (Itanium)
    Windows 32 Bit + 64 Bit (Itanium)
NOTE: On Windows 2003 server, please make sure you have installed Microsoft Hotfix 841176, to be found at http://support.microsoft.com/?id=841176
For up-to-date requirements, please contact the SAP ICC or visit the SAP ICC homepage.
What do we need to do to have our J2EE application certified?
Certification of deployment on the J2EE Engine in SAP NetWeaver AS has two basic requirements:
First, the third-party J2EE application must be successfully deployed onto the J2EE Engine in SAP NetWeaver AS.
Second, after deployment, the application must run as expected based on a mutually agreed-upon test plan.
How can I deploy my application into the J2EE engine in SAP NetWeaver AS? Does the certification require that we use a particular method?
You can use any of the deployment methods provided by SAP for certification. However, the deployment process will differ, based on the version of the J2EE Engine in SAP NetWeaver AS that you use.
For J2EE Engine 6.20, a J2EE application can be deployed onto SAP NetWeaver AS in four different ways, as documented in the deployment manual.
For J2EE Engine 6.40, refer to the “Deployment: Putting It All Together” section in SAP online help for a detailed explanation of the different deployment methods in version 6.40 of the J2EE engine and SAP NetWeaver AS.
What enhancements does version 6.40 of the J2EE engine in SAP NetWeaver AS offer versus 6.20?
Find out how version 6.40 of the J2EE Engine in SAP NetWeaver AS improves on 6.20.
Are there any advantages to using SAP NetWeaver AS to develop J2EE applications that run in an SAP solution-based environment (compared to using IBM WebSphere or BEA WebLogic)?
The broad customer base of SAP that has installed the SAP NetWeaver platform can select your J2EE application, which can be deployed and run on the J2EE engine. No other non-SAP/J2EE application server is needed.
How difficult will it be to port my J2EE application that currently runs on IBM WebSphere or BEA WebLogic to SAP NetWeaver AS?
SAP NetWeaver AS is fully J2EE-compatible; if your application was developed following the J2EE specifications, the porting of your J2EE application to SAP NetWeaver AS should be very easy. You should also browse through the information in the J2EE migration kit.
What if I run into problems during the porting/deployment of my J2EE applications to SAP NetWeaver AS?
We recommend that you join SDN and consult its forums and documentation. Here you will find a wealth of experience in installing SAP NetWeaver, porting, and so forth from your fellow developers. If you have a contract for consulting or certification with SAP ICC in place, a designated SAP consultant would help you resolve the problems.
    ABAP Deployment
How does an ABAP application become certified as Powered by SAP NetWeaver?
The ABAP application (add-on) needs to meet all of the following criteria:
The add-on must be ABAP-certified on the ABAP stack of SAP NetWeaver AS 6.20 or higher and contain GUI elements that are supported by the SAP GUI for HTML.
If the add-on solution contains additional J2EE parts, these parts must also run on the SAP NetWeaver platform and could be certified for their deployment on the J2EE stack.
The add-on needs to be packaged and distributed using the SAP add-on assembly kit. This tool is available as part of the certification agreement.
What are the benefits to an SAP customer of using an SAP-certified ABAP add-on?
Customers can import and maintain the third-party add-on using the SAP standard transactions SAINT and SPAM. It is assured that the add-on can be used and controlled using SAP NetWeaver Portal.
    SAP Netweaver XI Adapters
How does an SAP NetWeaver XI adapter become certified as Powered by SAP NetWeaver?
SAP ICC provides certification opportunities for third-party adapters for the SAP NetWeaver XI adapter framework (NW-XI-AF). These adapters must be implemented as resource adapters of the Java Connector Architecture 1.0. Adapters enable the SAP NetWeaver XI integration engine to talk to different application components or industry standards. Within SAP NetWeaver XI, it is important that the adapters are “lightweight,” in case the integration directory must be used to keep track of required services and mappings. To pass integration certification testing, SAP NetWeaver XI adapters are also required to build the connection directly to other applications or technical systems and must be deployed to SAP NetWeaver XI.
ISVs can use SAP Partner Connectivity Kit, available through any SAP sales office, as the platform to develop their SAP NetWeaver XI adapters.
What are the benefits to a customer for using an SAP-certified SAP NetWeaver XI adapter?
Customers are assured that the adapter is embedded properly on the SAP NetWeaver platform. Monitoring and configuration of this adapter can be centrally handled via SAP NetWeaver XI. No additional software systems are needed to run an SAP- certified SAP NetWeaver XI adapter.
    SAP NetWeaver XI Content Certification
How does a SAP NetWeaver XI content become certified as Powered by SAP NetWeaver?
The XI content needs to meet all of the following criteria:
All XI objects must be embedded in one or more integration scenarios
Optional XI content can be developed supporting industry standards. The industry standard interfaces must be utilized on one side of the integration scenario
ISVs have to specify required functional test cases to ensure the functional correctness of all objects contained in the integration scenarios
ISVs must provide the documentation of the required design and configuration steps
What are the benefits to a customer for using SAP-certified SAP NetWeaver XI content?
XI Content is a key differentiator of our integration solutions. SAP delivers XI content to facilitate the implementation process and thus reduce the TCO for the customers. Customers easily understand the underlying business scenarios of XI content objects.
