Differential using single ended mode

Hi I am using the multifunction  DAS Card which is set to single end mode as I need to use it to acquire all input signals, using single end channels. Now  I have got the corrected measured inputs in RMS voltage and I would like to get the differential value from the acquired inputs, using Labview functions. So How do I go about it?
Cheers,
Clement

If all you need is the difference between one channel and another, the subtract function usually works. If it's more complicated, could explain with more details?

  • How do I reset Tiger Mac OS X 10.4 admin password by using single-user mode

bought a used PowerBook G4 on Ebay. The administrator's password was locked. The Powerbook still can run to the normal screen. However, I am unable to update and install software without a password.
I don't have the original install CD either the second mac for firmware reset. So I wonder if anyone knows how to reset the password by using single user mode or any other methods to do so?
Any input will be greatly appreciate it. Thanks.
    Powerbook G4   Mac OS X (10.4)

This morning we lost power and my iMac G5 (10.4) system got messed up. Specifically, when it restarted, all text in all Finder and application menus were blank (e.g. Click the Apple menu and a long empty white box stretching to the bottom of the screen would appear with no text. The whole box turns blue when you click in it. Ditto for all other finder menus and dialog boxes. Event the User menu was empty. The Disk Utility application shows only icons and empty buttons--no text.)
Restarting in Safe Mode was no better.
I then connected the G5 as a target disk to my iMac G4, and ran the OS X install that came with the G5 (10.3.2). It told me that in order to install an earlier OS X version, I must select certain options: I checked "Archive and Install" and "Preserve Users and Network Settings" (I have 4 accounts set up in addition to my onw admin account) and proceeded with the installation.
At the end of installation, the G4 started (G5 is still in target disk mode) with the G5 as the startup disk. It presented the User Login screen (although it normally does auto-login on my account) but the password for each of the 5 accounts was rejected. The original hints still appear, but it seems that all passwords have been changed.
I then tried the G5 on its own (not as a Target disk) but when it starts up the grey Apple turns into a grey "do not enter" (circle/slash) icon and goes no further.
Can you suggest what I should do now?

  • Terminal Configuration Q: Differental or Single-Ended for reading IC pin I/O's

I'm trying to simultaneously monitor the I/O's on each of the pins of a 14-pin differential amplifier IC chip. This chip is part of an operating circuit so I've got a chip-clip with breakout wires going to a cDAQ 9172 and NI-9205 module.
My question is about terminal configuration with this particular module and an embedded IC chip contained within an "live" operating circuit.
Right now I have pins 1-14 of the chip-clip breakout wires plugged into the module from ACH0-ACH7, then from ACH16-ACH21 (basically straight down the LH side of the module's terminals). I have a standalone ground wire going from the PCB's negative rail to COM on the 9205. Using Signal Express I have the terminal configuration set to RSE.
Is this the proper terminal configuration for this application?
What I'm trying to do is record the amplitudes of the IC chip's I/O's while the circuit is operating. I will swap out different IC chips and compare the outputs of each one.

    Jason,
I've read both documents in full which is where I got the information for terminal configuration. My concern is whether the readings are accurate based on the terminal configuration I've selected. I'm getting "data" when I log the voltages from the chip but it's hard to tell if the data is truly accurate to each pin or if there is crosstalk or ghosting going on.
Again, this is a 14-pin op amp I'm trying to measure voltages from. The chip is on a battery powered circuit so I have each leg of the pin tied to a single Analog IN channel on the 9205 and the ground lead from the chip tied to COM, measuring RSE.
Below is a quick schematic of the terminal config.
I think it's right but again if I'm looking at inaccurate voltages I wouldn't know either...

Please help me ive been trying to do this all day by googling it and using apple.  HELP PLEASE

Hello, is it an admin Login, or possibly a Firmware Protection Password???
Firmware password protection in Mac OS X ...
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1352
It would block usage of all the startup keys, like C, N, T, D, CMD+s, CMD+Option+p+r, CMD +v, Option, and Shift, as well as booting from anything but the Hard Drive.
    Force Removing Password Protection
    1) Add or remove DIMMs to change the total amount of RAM in the computer.
    2) Then, the PRAM must be reset 3 times. (Command + Option + P + R).

  • Which of single ended referenced & non-referenced is better in cutting crosstalk

I am using a SCB100 box to go into PCI-6031E(DAQ CARD) to go into a windows 2000 pro PC. I am running 2 speakers one at 98HZ and other at 112HZ and trying to measure distortion of my acoustic sensors. I know that differential mode in SCB100 box causes no cross talk between the channels. But I want to run a B&K 4190 microphone in single-ended mode only. B&K has just way too high noise floor and lot of harmonics when I run it in diff mode. SO, I would like to know from you guys
if single ended referenced mode is better or the single ended non-referenced mode in terms of cutting cross talk between channels.

    shantaram,
The bias resistor allows the input to the DAQ card to function properly. Without it the card may accumulate charges that distort the incomming information. The bias resistor provides a way for these charges to dissipate. The 100kohm resistor provides a path for these charges without influencing the signal of interest.

  • Can't exit single user mode

I frequently start in single user mode to run fsck -fy on my startup disk
and after running fsck -fy, I exit single user mode typing exit or logout.
Now after running fsck -fy, typing exit or logout the single user mode remains
and returns a line: -sh-2.05b#. I’m not adept enough to use single user mode
other than for running fsck -fy so I am stuck on how to end the single user mode. TIA

Some stories have happy endings and this is one of them.
After a little head scratching I dig out the Tiger install DVD
and repaired the permissions on the problem HD partition.
Reboot to the problem disk, enter correct network settings, and
now we even have a web to surf. Also we can exit single user mode OK.

  • Wipe a HD via Unix in Single User Mode?

Is it possible to wipe a hard drive using diskutil or another method when booting up in Single User Mode? We routinely need to wipe drives and if possible, this would be the easiest.
I suspect because the OS that boots in Single User Mode is on that same drive will make this impossible.
Thanks in advance for your tips and comments,
    Doug

Yes, you cannot erase an OS while it's 'hosting' the erasure. Single user mode is part of Mac OS X, so it's on the hard drive, not in the firmware or anything super-low-level like that. Oh well. So... you might be able to erase the vast majority of user, application, and even OS files, but it won't be complete and won't be 'as good as' a volume-format.
A couple alternatives come to mind (sorry if you know all this. Not trying to be pedantic or patronizing, just making sure you know your options).
We keep host computers around just for running wipes, backups, and diagnostics that cannot run from a drive holding the booted OS. You simply restart the to-be-wiped Mac holding the 't' key, connect it via firewire, and treat it as an external hard drive.
You could also just boot from a Mac OS X install disc and wipe from the copy of Disk Utility included on the disc. Better yet, throw a +bona fide+ copy of OS X onto a pocket hard drive, boot the victim-Mac from that (hold option while it is first starting up), and wipe the internal HD normally, now that it's not in use. You could maybe even use single user mode in the booting OS, like you'd imagined, and format from there (I'm not sure that would be faster than letting it boot normally, though, as you might have to use "dd" or some other similar low-level wipe method, as I don't think the frameworks required for Apple's cli "diskutil" are available in single user mode).
I haven't tried to use it on a Mac, but I have a 256 MB USB flash drive with, er, ['Darn' Small Linux|http://tinyurl.com/5md7t] on it for diagnosing Windows boxes. It runs a script on boot which, if you don't intervene to run utilities or what-have-you, will wipe all attached hard drives and shut down. I keep it locked up for understandable reasons, but its super useful just as a time-saver, booting most machines and beginning the countdown-to-wipe in under ten seconds.
Anyway, let us know what your goals and thoughts are.
    Cheers, Joel

  • Single user mode session lost after backgound processes jump in

We have an application running on SQL server. This application restores DB very frequently using Single user mode. Following are the SQLs that are executed to restore the database in single user mode and to get the database back in multi user mode.
alter database [test-db] set single_user with rollback immediate; --This sql is run using test-db
    use master;restore database [test-db] from database_snapshot = 'snapshot_test-db';
    alter database [test-db] set multi_user;
After switching the test-db to single user mode some 4-5 background processes of Taskmanager jump in for the test-db kicking off the session that application has taken over in single user mode . These background process are deadlocked between them selves.

On searching for this problem I found out that people have faced similar problem but I was unable to find out the root cause and debug steps for this problem. Stopping the SQL server is provided as a solution to kick out these background processes but this
is not a feasible in our case as code to restore DB runs very frequently resulting in this problem at a good frequency.
I also made sure that SQL Server Agent is not running. The SQL services running on server are SQL server, SQL Server Browser and SQL Server VSS Writer.
Any help will be appreciated as this is a blocker problem.

  • Single User Mode Question

I use single user mode to do fsck because doing it on a live disk takes way too long. I was wondering if there is a way to repair permissions from single user mode. Thanks

    1. what does AFAIK mean?
    As Far As I Know
    2. What I have gathered is that it is near next to y difficult to repair permission fro the CLI and single user mode.
Correct. You can't use diskutil because the disk framework isn't loaded. You can do it if you're booted from an install DVD, though.

  • Resetting the Admin password in single user mode

Ok, my friend bought an old Imac from someone she went to school with with OS 10.4.2 on it. It works fine except that she can not install any programs because there is an admin password that she does not know. She asked the person she bought it from, he says he doesn't even remember setting a password. Normaly with this issue id just pop in the install disk and reset it from there, except neither of them have the install disk, and my install disk is to current for the machine. Does anyone know how I can reset the admin acount using single user mode commands? I can do it on my Mac Book pro but it doesn't seem to work the same way on 10.4. Please help!
EDIT: It is a Power PC G3 if that helps.

You do not need to delete "the users home folders". Nor do you need to delete the netinfo database. Here are two proceedures:
    Change Password
    Mac OS X:
Changing or resetting an account password via GUI:
    Resetting a user's password
Resetting the original administrator account password
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106156
You do not have a CD/DVD
Changing password from single user mode:
You can also change the administrator's password from single user mode or create a new administrator account.
You need to get into single use mode for steps one and two that are listed below.
This page will tell you how to get into single user mode.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1492
Basically, you hold down the command-s key then powering on your machine. The command key has a little apple symbol on the lower left. It is between the alt/option key and the space bar. On a PC keyboard, it will be the windows key, I think.
    1) You can change the password on an account. ( Do you know Unix. You are in a Unix single user console. ) The setup commands you need should be listed on the screen. For Mac OS 10.4.11, the commands are:
    # Type the follow two instructions to access the startup disk in read/write:
    /sbin/fsck -fy
    /sbin/mount -uw /
    # Start up some utility processes that are needed.
    sh /etc/rc
    # You will probably need to press the return key once the system stops typing.
    # To find out the users on the system type, use the list command. The l is a lower case L:
    ls /Users
    # One of these accounts will be the administrator.
    # Pick one of the users which I'll call a-user-name and type it in this command:
    passwd a-user-name
    # and enter the new user password. You need six characters.
    # You will need to enter your password twice. Your typing will not show up on the screen just
    # press enter when you complete the typing.
    # For cryptic information on these commands try:
    man ls
    man passwd
The root account isn't enabled by default. I am not sure if changing the password on root will enable it.
    2) Get the Mac to set up an additional administrative account. You can then change the password on your old account.
Start with your computer power off. Hold down command-s. Power on your computer.
    Type in the following:
The first two commands will depend on your release of Mac OS X. Look at what is typed out in the console to determine the exact format.
    # Type the follow two instructions to access the startup disk in read/write. Press return after each command.
    /sbin/fsck -fy
    /sbin/mount -uw /
    cd /var/db
    pwd
#List all files. The l is a lower case L.
    ls -a
#The move command acts as a rename command in this format.
    mv -i .applesetupdone .applesetupdone.old
    reboot
Once you've done that the computer reboots and it's like the first time you used the machine. Your old accounts are all safe. From there you just change all other account passwords in the account preferences!!

  • SQL 2012 AG - Single User Mode Alternative

We have a very busy DB in a SQL cluster at the moment, that I am moving to a 2012 AG. Every night, there is a job that moves data around into a bunch of newly created tables. In the cluster, the job uses single user mode to pause incoming data while it makes
    the changes:
SET SINGLE_USER WITH ROLLBACK AFTER 10 SECONDS
So I've been looking around, but I'm not a heavy DBA, so I haven't been able to find an alternative for this command in the job. Right now, the job fails every day. It cannot make the necessary changes while data is still flowing into the DB. How can I pause
the incoming data until the job finishes? Is there a way to take the listener offline temporarily or some other way to make this work?
    Thanks!!

Partitioning is exactly what we're trying to do. That's where we used single user mode before. Here is the part of the job that required it. Let me know what you think:

  • Start vm linux Guests in single-user mode

    Hi -
I have OBIEE vm template installed and everything is OK, I forgot the roor password for this guest, (ovsroot) is not working I think I've changed it. One option is to start this guest in single-user mode, I tried but you can't see the console until the system is starting services which is a late phase to run linux single command on boot prompt. Please advice how can change my root password using single-user mode.
    thanks in advance

Sorry, but I am not sure I am getting this right, where should I add 'single console=xvc0', if you mean the guest, as I mentioned in my post I don't know the root password and I can't logon. please kindly if you can add more detailed steps. When you boot your guest using xm create -c vm.cfg, it will immediately connect you to the console of the guest. That will show you the GRUB boot menu. You then need to edit the kernel boot line exactly the same way you would a physical server. In order to boot into single-user mode, you need to add the parameter single to the boot line. Along with that parameter, you also need console=xvc0 so that the guest uses the connected console to show you the boot process and allows you access to the single-user shell. If you do not use this parameter, you'll need to determine the VNC port used by the guest and used VNC to connect to the console instead.

  • Single entry mode

    Hi all
i have enabled single entry mode . That means i should see the tasks under MY timesheet instead of my work in PWA.
However for some plans this doesnt happen . the tasks apper under MY TASKS instead of MY TIMESHEET
    what could be the problem

    tanveer041989 --
Pardon me for bumping into this conversation.  When you use Single Entry Mode (SEM) with Project Server, this means that tasks will appear on both the Tasks page AND the Timesheet page in PWA for team members.  If you do not want team members to
use the Tasks page for entering progress, then I would recommend that your Project Server administrator hide the Tasks link in the Quick Launch Menu and the Tasks button in the Track Your Work carousel at the top of the Home page in PWA (assuming you are using
Project Server 2013).  This will restrict users to only the Timesheet page.
To answer your follow up question, you have two choices:
Delete the timesheet and then recreate it using the Manage Timesheets page.
Navigate to the Timesheet page for the selected time period. In the Timesheet ribbon, click the Add Row pick list button and select the Select from Existing Assignments item.  In the Add an Existing Task dialog, select the missing tasks and then click
    the OK button.
I think you can see that the first option is by far the simplest.  Hope this additional information helps.
