Digital audio cable airport express

What digital audio cable do I have to buy to be compatible with Airport Express?
And where can I buy it?
I have to connect it to my amplifier that has a digital input.
Thanks
Giovanni

You would connect it to the audio port of your AirPort Express.

  • Streaming audio to Airport Express via AirPlay?

I have wired HDMI sending throughout my house, all my media equipment is in my lounge, Apple TV 2, PS3 and Cable TV, my audio is analogue for all but ATV2 which I just bought not realizing that there is digital audio only, d'oh!
Sadly my projector upstairs where I want to watch my media has zero audio capabilities, video is great, audio for ATV2 is non existent.
Can ATV2 stream audio to Airport Express? Every other iDevice I have can so I'm sure the hardware is capable, the old ATV could do this but I suspect Apple would like me to purchase an ATV2 for each room but i dont want to drop another £101 for hardware I already have.
    Thanks

Aw, that's what I thought, thank you for confirming Rudegar. Back to the drawing board..

  • Can I use the optical digital audio cable to connect INSTEAD of the hdmi?  My tv only has 2 hdmi ports, and they're both taken

Can I use the optical digital audio cable to connect INSTEAD of the hdmi?  My tv only has 2 hdmi ports, and they're both taken

I'm afraid that's very misleading and inaccurate.
Firstly an adapter won't work, it would need to be a converter and then if it's a compliant converter it won't let you watch HDCP protected content such as that from netflix or from the iTunes Store.
Secondly, whilst I'm not going to debate whether component or HDMI is better, component is certainly not better if it's been converted from an HDMI signal. You can't make anything better by simply converting it to another type of signal.

  • Digital audio cables

I've been looking for digital audio cables and have noticed a wide price range, anywhere from $12.95 to $60.00.  Why the wide variance?  Is there that much difference in their capabilities, and if so, what are the differences?

In modern digital audio signals, as I stated earlier, either the signal reaches it's destination, or it does not. With error correction, even small dropouts do not cause signal loss. Since digital signals are not prone to the problems that plague analog signals (inductance, crosstalk, jitter, etc), then expensive cables are not needed. All that is needed is a cable of sufficient length and correct impedance. On consumer grade equipment, the difference between a $3 dollar cable and a $150 dollar cable are completely inaudible to the human ear. Since most audio signals come from a compressed source (mp2, wma, wav, etc), the audible differences are due to the quality o the DACs used, and not the cable that connects the source. Even on the few pieces of equipment that will play the uncompressed audio of a blu-ray disc, cables are much less critical than the equipment used to decode them. There is simply no reason for anyone to spend $50, $60 or more dollars for any digital cable. Extra "shielding" is not needed. Any of the other claims made by cable makers justifying their exorbitant prices are simply marketing hoopla, smoke and mirrors, and in some cases complete and utter nonsense. Any cable of appropriate length and impedance is sufficient.

if you use a hdmi to dvi converter then you only get picture and not audio because dvi don't carry audio same with vga

  • HDMI or Optical digital audio cable???

I have an ATV2 with cable box, Samsung sound bar w/blu ray DVD player, and a Samsung led tv. I have HDMI cables and also a optical digital audio cable from my cable box to the sound bar. My tv sound is fine but when I switch over to the ATV2 the tv sound remains on and no sound from the ATV2. I can't figure out what to do.

Shouldn't the HDMI cables carry the sound along with the video? Do I really need the optical digital audio cable at all?
yes they do, but you don't have your kit connected up so that it would do it.
if you wanted to use the HDMI to carry the audio you would need to connect the appletv direct to the soundbar - as it is just now you aren't doing that.

  • No audio video audio using airport express?

does anyone know why you cant listen to music video audio thru airport express. music works fine...not audio.

    Chris--
I'm sure it's the same reason you can't listen to audio through Airtunes and on your computer's speakers at the same time: there's a significant delay as iTunes processes the audio, sends it over the network, and the Airport Express decodes it and sends it to your stereo. The video on your computer would be out of sync with the audio from the speakers.

  • Cable for digital output on airport express?

what cable do I need to use the digital optical output on airport express? Can I use it to feed a DAC upsampling converter such as the DACMAgic? Thanks

    Hello
I have just set up this as described.
I've noticed though that on the Dacmagic, the incoming sample rate, when connected via the Mini Toslink adapter to a Airport express is 44.1 - where as if I connect the Dacmagic directly to my Mac via USB, it jumps to 96.
Why is that and is it likely to affect the sound quality?  Haven't had a chance to do a side by side comparison yet.

  • Bad sound quality streaming audio via Airport Express

I am streaming audio from iPhone to Apple Airport Express (Airplay). Via optical cable the signal goes to Cambridge DacMagic and then to Stereo Amplifier. Sound is not good, there's some kind of 'chattering'.
When using AirFoil instead of Airplay sound is much better, but then gaps appear from time to time.
Please tell me, what can be the reason for it? And how to solve?
    Thanks in advance.

    Mr. Tessarex,
I use the Airport Exreme as router and Airport Express (2011, direct plug-in model)
Some facts I learned from the Airport-app on my iPhone:
    Wireless clients from Airport Extreme:
    iPhone 150Mb/s (802.11 a/n) connection: excellent
    Acer laptop 144Mb/s (802.11 b/g/n) connection: excellent
    The Airport Express:
    240Mb/s (802.11 a/n) connection: good
I bought the song "Love Me Like You Do" (Ellie Goulding) via iTunes.
As you adviced me I tried to play it via iTunes, and streamed it from iPhone to Airport Express.
Especially listening to the bombastic part of the song (from 3:14). Sound was tolerable.
Playing the song from iPhone via Spotify: sound is awfull, totally overloaded.
Playing the song from laptop via Spotify (Airfoil): sound is good.
Playing the song from laptop via iTunes (Airplay): sound is good.
The song never plays 'Excellent' in any way. I Think the song was recorded 'over the top'.
Even when you listen to it via headphone, it sounds very messy, "on the edge...".
I am happy that most songs sound good. So far playing Spotify via laptop and Airfoil gives the best results.
According to the figures from the Airport-app, it seems I will never get optimal bitrate with my current system.
As amplifier I use the Luxman L505u, usually connected tot Airport Express via Cambridge Dacmagic,
but during testing via normal analog cable (without Dacmagic). So far I think the Dagmagic is not the problem.
What do you think, after reading my story?
    Thanks in advance
    Peter

  • Streaming audio to airport express

With iTunes there is an option to send your audio to the Airport Express router. Is there a way or app to send audio (master output) from Logic to the Airport Epress? This would be very usefull to listen to my mixes on my home stereo without using long cables...

Yes, there is. I use Airfoil along with Airport Express for this purpose.
You can download the program here: http://rogueamoeba.com/airfoil/
The only thing is that this program cost a few bucks, but that is a one-time charge, if I am correct. Works fairly good I must say. Sometimes I get a few drop-outs, but that is rare.
You can stream any audio source through AE with this program too.

  • Audio from Airport Express

Someone told me they thought the new Airport Express has a fiber optic toss link audio jack as opposed to the standard audio jack for better sound quality. Any truth to this? Doesn't look like if on the apple store website but thought maybe I'm missing something.
The old jack just doesn't offer good sound quality like fiber optic.
    Thanks

The AirPort Express (AX) has always had an optical audio output as well as an analog output.
www.apple.com/airportexpress/specs.html states "3.5-mm audio minijack for analog or optical digital sound".

  • Wi-Fi Car Audio from Airport Express

Rockford Fosgate makes a car stereo with a 20GB hard drive that you can upload songs to while your car sits in your garage. No toting your ipod around.
The bummer is that it doesn't appear to be mac compatible. Anybody know of a product for mac that can do what this does?

  • Streaming itunes audio via airport express to TV speakers

Using imac, itunes and airport express.
I am trying to utilize tv audio component to play music as remote speaker using itunes and airport express.
With the tv on and approriate component selected - no sound. If I turn off TV and then back on - I get about 3 seconds of music via airport exp connection then silent.
    Any suggestions?

I have connected airex to a sony mfm-ht205 lcd tv/display. I have used the airex monster cables stereo to dual-rca connectors to connect to tv.
The tv has 2 video and 1 component set of jacks. Each of these has audio red/white right/left jacks for audio cords (presumably the dual end of monster cable).
With tv off and airex connected, when I turn tv on I get music from itunes (via airex) on tv speakers for about 3 seconds then nothing.
    Thanks for response.
