Digital audio SPDIF suddenly quit working

I was watching a video yesterday on our home theater connected to my Macbook. The audio was connected using a SPDIF to toslink cable and everything was working fine until suddenly the audio stopped. Analog out still works and the internal speakers still work when the cable is unplugged.
When optical is plugged back in, internal speakers stop but nothing is sent to the sound receiver over optical. When I check the Audio MIDI settings it detects that an optical device is connected. Any suggestions?

Long shot, but...
Open Audio Midi Setup in Applications>Utilities, see the input & output options & KHz setting there, some things will change it for their own use, then not set it back.

My speaker suddenly quit working, ear phones are ok, is there a setting for this

Plug/unplug the headphones from the iPad a few times. Also try rotating the plug in the socket a few times. The headphone jack has an internal switch which turns the speaker off when the headphones are plugged in. The contacts may have gotten dirty within the socket. Working the plug within the socket can sometimes get things working again.

HP Deskjet F4140 Suddenly Quit Working

Hello, I have an HP Deskjet F4140 connected to my iMac that suddenly quit working. The iMac doesn't even detect a a printer connected. I have updated my BIOs, uninstalled and reinstalled the printer drivers, etc. It worked fine last week. The only update I have made since then was an automatic update of the EEI Firmware. Any help?

The Apple updates messed with my HP C4280. I had to uninstall-delete then hunt down all HP files (preferences etc) using Spotlight and delete. Then restart and download and install the drivers again. After all of this it worked properly. Good luck.

I had the same problem, dictation suddenly stoped working on my new IPhone 5.
I tried the fix from Linda Swenberg and it worked.
Turn Off SERI in General settings
Power down the phone ( press and hold the on/off buttton)
Turn it back on
Turn SERI back on
Wait 3 minutes
It then worked

idt hd audio codec suddenly stopped working with 8.1. Windows update and it stopped working, maybe a coincidence. Error message: Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing (code 39).

Have you made any recent changes to your system?
Have you tried booting into safe mode and doing a Windows repair?
You can run the The HP Support Assistant to help resolve issues and update drivers. You can do a restore back to a time when it was working correctly Using Microsoft System Restore (Windows 8). You can manually download drivers from the download page for your system. HP Drivers & Downloads

Why did video and audio chat suddenly stop working?

I used to be able to video and audio chat with my parents, but it suddenly stopped working. They use AIM.
I get the "There was a communication error during your chat" message come up when I try to connect to their video chat requests. I spent a couple hours reading the old posts on this issue, but nothing seems to work for me. Thanks to anyone who can help me -- my parents in Illinois want to be able to see their grandbaby!

Ok,
Most routing devices have ports that are open (1 - 1024) that allow you to use Web Browser and Mail apps without any set up.
Certain apps need other ports open or allowed as thy are normally closed (1024 - 65535)
Now there are several ways to open these ports.
One method is called Port Forwarding and points the ports you list to one IP on your LAN (The one your computer is getting/using)
Now if the routing device is left doing DHCP this IP can change now and then meaning the Port Forwarding is no longer pointing to the Computer (IP).
If your computer (or your parents in this case) is left on all the time it tends to keep the IP as the Lease as it is called is renewed.
However if the computer is Off for longer than the lease time It will get a new IP
The thing to do is check the routing device's Settings.
This site lists many devices.
If yours is there click on it.
On the next page Click on iChat
You will now see the Default Access Info (And the Port Forwarding info)
DO NOT DO the Port Forwarding but check the settings.
If it does have Port Forwarding set up check the IP it lists as going to matches the one you see in System Preferences > Network for your computer.
AS you say your parents were away for a time I suspect it may be their end.

Audio clips suddenly not working??

I've been working on a movie for the past two days, and I have a lot of voice overs that I recorded in iMovie, I have music from iTunes I put over some clips, and I have other recordings I put in over pictures as well. it was perfect yesterday, and I came back today to finish up and suddenly none of the audio I imported is working. The audio in the videos I have is fine, but nothing else is working. The music won't play and my voiceovers are silent.
I tried deleting the music and putting it back in, and it doesn't work. It'll play the preview for me, and when I go into clip adjustments, it plays the music, but it won't play when I do playback. None of my voice overs work either. I tried recording a new one just now and it lets me record, but it is silent. Please help me fix this!! I can't even go back through and rerecord because nothing is working!

When i first got my mac, the same thing that happened to you occurred to me as well, i read the interface's manual and realised that Mac does not support the edirol, so i went to the edirol website and downloaded an updated driver for Mac and it worked. ADE suddenly quit working for all users on my Vista computer. What should I do?

Adobe Digital Editions quit working for all users on my Wndows Vista computer after I tried several times to install a book that wouldn't install. The book is one of three I recently purchased even though the other two installed with no problem. Other books were already installed.
I uninstalled and re-installed ADE with the latest version and tried again after clearing out the "My Digital Editions" folders by moving the contents elsewhere. The same problem occurs with all users on my computer.
The program runs showing no books or bookshelves despite contents in the "My Digital Editions" folder. If I try to "Add to Library," the program shuts down and shows nothing- not even an error message when re-run. Even though I'm only able to create a bookshelf, no bookshelf appers when the program is re-run.
I even tried de-authorizing and re-authorizing my computer.
What should I do?

Whilst your Apple ID (presumably the @mac.com) may have been the original and been linked to @me.com at the MobileMe period and then to iCloud (@icloud.com) you need to keep to the same Apple ID through out (the iMessages server seems to treat them as different IDs to some extent).
In the Finder use the Go Menu > Go to Folder and enter ~/Library/Preferences
Find and Drag to the Trash com.apple.ids.service.com.apple.madrid.plist
On the iPhone remove those emails that are not the Apple ID in use.
On Restarting the Mac version you will have to re-enter the Apple ID.
If you then restart again you should get the pop ups to say what the iPhone is using (linking the iPhone number to the Apple ID)
Once you enable Text Forwarding on the iPhone then the Mac Version should generate and show you the Code to then enter in the iPhone's dialogue box to pair the devices.
If each Contact is turning red as you try to Send and reporting that the Contact is "Not Registered with iMessages" then you have a different issue.
This is caused by a partial login to the iMessages server and it seems it is one of those that only contacting Apple Support and saying you have an Account issue with the iMessages server from your Mac can it get sorted. (make sure you say it is an Account issue)
Of course it is the iPhone that is actually sending the SMS messages so it does need to have Carrier service at this point.

Time Capsule--Wireless suddenly quit working

My Time Capsule had always worked perfectly, but suddenly my wireless access from any device has quit working. My DSL is working fine, and the router and backup portions of the TC seem to be working. I tried a hard reset, updating to the latest version of Airport Utility and Firmware, and it still doesn't work. My laptop sees the network, but when I type in the password and try to connect, I get a connection time out.
Is there anything else to try, or do I assume it's broken?

Do a factory reset.. if the TC still will not pass IP addresses it is indeed faulty.. I get the idea it has swapped modes for some unknown reason. Anyway give it a try.. no luck and Apple will replace it.

In FCP7 my share option suddenly quit working, and I can't submit in compressor either. Any suggestions for a solution?

I have had FCP 7 installed on my Mac Pro since May 2011, It has worked flawlessly up until a couple weeks ago. The "share" option has quit working on me. Also, I am unable submit any jobs in compressor, the button is greyed out. This has come entirely out of the blue and I'm stumped as to the best course of action. Any suggestions?

Messages and facetime all of a sudden quit working

(icloud) imessage and facetime all of a sudden stopped working and advice to how to get it working again?

I had the same problem too. For some reason the phone settings turned them off. For iMessage you have to go to Settings>iMessage and turn it back on. Same for FaceTime, go to Settings>Facetime and turn it back on. Don't know why some peoples stayed on and others, like ours, turned off. Hope this helps
