Digital Camera Raw

A software update on my MacBook 10.5.8 indicates that I need a Digital Camera Raw Compatibility 2.7 update, but everytime I try, I get an error.  Any suggestions.
Thanks

What exact error do you get?
Could be many things, we should start with this...
"Try Disk Utility
1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
3. Click the First Aid tab.
4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
5. Click Repair Disk, (not Repair Permissions). Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
If perchance you can't find your install Disc, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward.

  • Digital Camera RAW Compatibility Update 3.12 and later can not be installed on OSX 10.6.8.

    Hi
I bought a new Canon EOS 5D mark 3 and noticed that my MacBook Pro with OSX 10.6.8 can not handle the new raw files.
Searching google shown that I need Digital Camera RAW Compatibility Update 3.12 or later.
So I tried with 3.12, 3.13 and 3.14, but all failed during installation with error: "Dieses Update unterstützt nur Aperture 3 und iPhoto 9."
    Hmmm
    Checking iPhoto ...
About IPHOT shows "Iphoto '09 version 8.1.2 (424)"
So I've updated Iphoto with version 9.2.1 (which I found matching my OSX after stepping down from highest version down ..... Apple is here not really supporting users here .......)
Unfortunately this is only an update.
So I need to install first a newer Iphoto version.
Iphoto 11 I can buy in the app store, but I can not install it on OS/X 10.6.8 .....
    Lost!
How do I get my raw files of 5Dm3 visible in OSX 10.6.8 ???????
    Any help welcome
    Thx
    Wolfgang

I maintain up to date my system, yet I have from time to time when I take RAW picture issues in iPhoto not reading them.  Today, looking for another issue I came across this update and I was hopping it would resolve my issues with the RAW photos from my Pentax K-30.
    The error:
    Installer quit unexpectedly.
Click Reopen to open the app again. Click Report to see more detail information and send to Apple.

This laptop cannot be upgraded further without hindering its performance.  Hence, I need to keep the version of iPhoto that I currently have.

  • Digital Camera Raw update 4.02

is out in software update. I don;t see it on the Apple site yet however.
    This from software update

Discovered that the problem exists only with E-PM2 RAW files imported into Aperture before applying Digital Camera Raw Update 4.02. (I had been shooting RAW+JPEG since getting the camera, while waiting for RAW support.
    Found a solution:
Select all the problem files. Choose "Reprocess Originals" from the Photos menu. Done.

  • Canon EOS 100D is listed as compatible in Digital Camera RAW Compatibility Update 6.01 but when I connect my camera a message appears telling it's not compatible with the operating system?

Canon EOS 100D is listed as compatible in Digital Camera RAW Compatibility Update 6.01 and when I have checked for software updates there are none available.  I've downloaded the Canon software, connected to my mac via the cable and followed the instructions in the manual.  Sadly I just get a message saying it's not compatible with the operating system.  I've tried inserting the memory card into the mac to and it doesn't seem to see it.  Can anyone help please?

Camera RAW ≠ Camera driver, the RAW update is for the .CR2 canon raw image file (in your case) compatibility.
What happens when you try to import photos using Image Capture or iPhoto?
Can you take a screenshot of the error message?
I always prefer and recommend using memory card import over using the camera.

  • Digital Camera Raw Update

TUAW reports there's a new update to support more digital cameras. I didn't see a thread here, so I thought I'd share in case some of you were waiting for support.
Apple has released Digital Camera Raw Compatibility Update 3.1 via Software Update. The update can also be downloaded here. The 6.77 MB (web) or 7.2 MB (Software Update) update requires Mac OS X 10.5.8 or 10.6.2, and extends RAW image compatibility for Aperture 3 and iPhoto '09 for the following cameras:
    o. Hasselblad H3DII-50
    o. Leica M9
    o. Leica X1
    o. Olympus E-P1
    o. Olympus E-P2
    o. Panasonic Lumix DMC-GF1
    o. Pentax K-7
    o. Pentax K-x
    o. Sony Alpha DSLR-A500
    o. Sony Alpha DSLR-A550
    o. Sony Alpha DSLR-A850

I am running Aperture 2, and iPhoto 09, with a Pentax Kx.
Either the 3.1 update, or the ProKit upgrade, killed reading of my DNG files in Aperture.
Although Software Update shows them as recommended for iPhoto 9 and Aperture users, I would suggest passing on them if you are still in Aperture 2.

              Nikon D7100
              Nikon 1 J3
              Nikon 1 S1
              Sony Alpha NEX-3N

Nah.  There will be a new camera announced in the next week and it will again be a crisis that Apple is not professional because they take more than 4 days to support a new camera
What about a camera released a year ago? Should I get at least a bit upset fo the lack of support? Hope wit will come out soon.

  • Digital Camera RAW Compatibility Update 4.01 for Aperture 3 and iPhoto '11

    Check Software Update!
    Canon EOS M
    Canon PowerShot S110
    Nikon D600
    Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100
    Canon PowerShot G15
    Canon PowerShot SX50 HS
    Nikon 1 J2
    Panasonic LUMIX DMC-FZ200
    Panasonic LUMIX DMC-G5
    Panasonic LUMIX DMC-LX7
    Sony Alpha NEX-F3
Those of you who have already imported "unsupported" photos into Aperture (i.e. Nikon D600) photos, simply choose Photos->Reprocess Original after installing this update (and restarting Aperture), and the photo will then show up.
Aperture Expert has a little summary too:
    http://www.apertureexpert.com/tips/2012/10/24/digital-camera-raw-compatibility-u pdate-401-for-aperture-3-a.html

I cannot fathom why a RAW update is not compatible with all versions of Aperture 3. This is forced redundancy in my opinion. Not happy...
I understand that this is annoying for you, but it is part of the redesign of MacOS to make it more efficient and not to waste disk space on redundant installations.
The recent raw update - as I see it - is an update to Mac OS X 10.8.x, not to Aperture. Since Mac OS X Lion Apple has started to migrate the raw support directly to the OS, so they do not need to install the raw support as update to many different applications. I have not checked yet - is this update included in Lion as well? I sincerely hope so.
Send feedback to Apple that you need this upgraded raw support also available in Snow Leopard.

  • Digital Camera Raw 3.8.0 crashes Preview

    Hi
Is there any informartion on a Preview crash with the new Digital Camera Raw 3.8.0 update? If I want to crop and save an image (jpeg), preview crashes. Sometimes it crashes even if I rotate some images. If I go back to RawCamera 3.7.1, preview does not crash anymore. Update to 3.8.0 again, preview crashes again.
I read some other discussion about re-installing ProKit 7.0, this might solve problems for other software, but it didn't help be. For the moment, I'm back with 3.7.1.
    Any help?
    Thanks, andifor

It is unfortunately simply the extended cameras for Aperture and iPhoto. You still cannot open S90 pictures with Quick View, Preview or include them directly in iWork applications. You do get them as Finder icons though.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1001
(Note, I do not say that it necessarily is a good idea to include RAW files in iWork documents. Still, it works with many other RAW files but not Canon's S90.)

  • Aperture 3.4.4, Digital camera raw 4.0.5 cannot be installed

On my late 2007 Imac I run OSX 10.8.3 and Aperture 3.4.4. While installing Digital Camera Raw 4.05 I get the message Aperture version 3.4 or later, or iPhoto version 9.4 or later, is required to install this update after which the installation aborts.
I still had iPhoto 7.1.5 on my machine which I haven't used since 2008 which I decided to delete, but that did not help.
IMO the install programm should just work as it says you need either the correct Aperture OR iPhoto version, not both .
But anyway, what can I do to enable the update to work without doing a clean install of ML or buying a product I never use? Is there still some kind of iPhoto residu?
BTW, the last version of DCR I tried to install was 4.0.2. This had the same issue, but I let go of that one. I don't know what my current version is.
    Kind regards,
    Martin

I have all my Photo applications including Aperture in a separate map
The subfolder explains it. That is a problem in Lion and Mt. Lion. These operating systems rely on the applications being installed directly in the Applications folder.
However, you could  group your applications by creating folders in the Launchpad. Simply dragging the applications in the Lauchpad on top of each other will create subfolders there and you can see them all grouped there and launch them after double clicking the folder. That is Lion's and Mt. Lion's way to launch applications from folders.
These screenshots show my folders for Photography apps and Music applications. Double clicking reveals the folder contents for launching.

  • Digital Camera RAW update 2.1 (requires 10.5.3) XSi/450D support:

    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/digitalcamerarawcompatibilityupdate21.htm l
Digital Camera RAW Compatibility Update 2.1
About Digital Camera RAW Compatibility Update 2.
This update extends RAW file compatibility for Aperture 2 and iPhoto ’08 for the following cameras:
Canon EOS Digital Rebel XSi/Kiss Digital x2/450D
    Epson R-D1
    Leaf AFi 7
    Leaf AFi 6
    Leaf AFi 5
    Pentax K200D
    Pentax K20D

Firstly, the best method I have found (superior to Adobe Import/Convert/Export) is to install the software from the A300 CD - I know, blasphemy. Anyhow, you can delete all except for the RAW Image Converter, which lets you do raw editing, its decent, and then export into whatever file type and size that is convenient for you, though its not the same as native Raw support, I know.
Quirks: Not many, its a great camera, I've had mine for about a month and a half now. The AF Assist light drains battery like an electric car, and I can't say that I totally appreciate the inability to invert the focus ring direction. Ergonomics whilst wearing glasses is mediocre at best and your screen will get dirty - you'll have to deal with it. Otherwise, its absolutely an amazing camera, DO NOT RETURN YOURS!!! As you can see, there are a few quirks, but if I were to write down its positives above cameras prices three times as much, the list would take up pages. keep it, its too good to care for the little things like that.

  • Problem with Aperture 2 and Digital Camera Raw Compatability update 3.1

Has anyone using Aperture 2 experienced problems with the Digital Camera Raw Compatability update 3.1. It may be purely coincidence but, since downloading this on March 3, I get the dreaded red screen and unsupported image format on my previously downloaded and edited RAW photos. I use a Pentax k-7 with which, once set up, I have had no problems until now!
Please - any help would be very gratefully received

That probably explains why any checks that your computer did to see if the Camera Raw update was okay to apply didn't stop it. You should probably contact Apple and explain that they broke something that was working fine previously.
A few people have reported backing off Camera Raw 3.1 and going back to Camera Raw 3.0 for now. This note is one of the ones I've found describing how to do that, if you wish to try that. Or, you could head down the path Apple means to lead you on and upgrade to Aperture 3.

  • Aperture Expert is reporting that Digital Camera RAW 4.0.5 supporting Fuji sensors is out...

It should be available via Software Update.
    http://www.apertureexpert.com/tips/2013/4/17/digital-camera-raw-update-405-for-a perture-and-iphoto-fujifi.html
    New cameras supported:
    Fujifilm X20
    Fujifilm X100S
    Fujifilm X-E1
    Fujifilm X-Pro1
I would expect it would also be available for download here:
    http://support.apple.com/downloads/
But isn't there yet.  I guess there may be numerous fewer threads here related to Fuji now ;-)

The Mountain Lion raw support article also lists the update already - I had to remember to clear the Browser Cache to see it
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5371
And it was available at the AppStore for download more than an hour ago, but grouped with the pre-release software update, even if the update itself was not marked as pre-release seed.

  • Digital Camera RAW Update 5.02 breaks Sony RX100 lens distortion correction (AGAIN!)

Just like with the Digital Camera RAW Update 4.08, the latest 5.02 update breaks the Sony RX100 lens distortion correction again. I'm reverted back to 5.01 until this is fixed.
From your Time Machine backup, restore the previous versions of
    /System/Library/CoreServices/RawCamera.bundle
    /System/Library/CoreServices/RawCameraSupport.bundle

Yes, I noticed it too, but I wasn't certain it was 5.02 that did it as I sold my RX100 and haven't processes any files for a while. Then as part of the NR discussion here I looked at some old RX100 files, and the distortion correction now disappears. Unfortunately I can't really revert to 5.01 because I was waiting on the A7 support 5.02 brought.
Apple are aware of it, so hopefully the fix will be quick to arrive.

  • Can't Install Digital Camera Raw 3.6

I am having problems installing Digital Camera Raw 3.6. During the install, I get the message "Digital Camera Raw Compatibility Update can't be installed on this disk. This update provides support for Aperture 3 and iPhoto 9 only".

Ernie.......yes, the application is Aperture, Mac's photo-image software. I didn't specify as I thought I was posting in the Aperture Forum. I'm not very familiar with these forums, did I miss a step in clarifying my subject?
