Dilemma: Applecare prot plan - buy on ebay or from Apple?

Hello,
As many of you know I am currently working for the 2010 Census as a data entry operator at a facility in Indiana. This job is supposed to let the remaining staff go around Sept. Question: TO avoid a high price for the prot plan for my new mac pro, can I buy it much cheaper off of Ebay? I think $249 is rather steep as that is close to 300 dollars for a simple little box with paper work inside of it..
Can someone advise if ebay would really have it cheaper, and if so, what are the ramifications or penalties of buying one off of ebay? I am trying to keep my costs down.. as for my LED cinema display? Is it really worth it to get a pro plan for this, as monitors are expendible?

There are many AC plans on Ebay that are fakes. If they are just emailing you a serial number then beware. It will register all ok with Apple but eventually when Apple audit your account you may find it is cancelled by them. Ask the seller if they will supply the OEM packaging which includes a serial number as well as the AppleCare registration number. If they won't then walk away.
I have bought a legitimate Applecare pack for my Mac Pro off ebay for a reduced price that included the box and all the original stuff which Apple have confirmed is legit. I bought one for my MBP as a test which was just a serial numebr and spoke to Apple at length about it which they were able to confirm was counterfit. The seller refunded me straight away without issue so I got my money back.
I know there are legitimate sellers out there as I have found out, but there are a lot more rogues too.
So, you get what you pay for. Small discout = good, hugh discount = (probably) bad.

  • HT4515 I want to buy an unlocked 4s from apple and use it permanently on a foreign CDMA cell service (IUSA Cell in Mexico).  I am getting conflicting information.  Thoughts?

I want to buy an unlocked 4s from apple and use it permanently on a foreign CDMA cell service (IUSA Cell in Mexico).  I am getting conflicting information on whether this is possible.  Apple website says the phones are unlocked for GSM use only.
I called apple when i bought an Ipad to help decide on a GSM vs CDMA version and was told that if I went to Mexico with a CDMA version of the Ipad (2) that i would call the carrier give them some numbers and they would activate it.  When i returned I was to call Verizon and reactivate it in the US.  I ultimately got the GSM version so i never tested the theory.
I am now thinking of getting the 4S to use in Mexico permanently but want to use it on a CDMA carrier because it is half the cost per month.  But will this work?  Thoughts?

There is no such thing as an unlocked CDMA iPhone. All CDMA iPhones are carrier locked and the carriers do not allow unlocking. All legitimatly unlocked iPhones are GSM only The CDMA side is completely disabled in them.
You can only use a CDMA iPhone if the carrier you want to use offers one.

can i directly buy an unlocked iphone from apple retail store?

Possibly; it depends on where you are and what model of iPhone you're interested in. Call or visit your local Apple Store and ask.

The App Store is now available in Azerbaijan starting July 2011, so you're in luck. The App Store Azerbaijan has will contain apps, podcasts, iTunes U courses and royalty-free books. There are a number of Azerbaijan-centered apps in the App Store as well, so you're in luck.

  • Can I buy a Macbook Pro from Apple store Singapore and send it to Italy?

I' m wandering if I can buy a Macbook Pro Display Retina from Apple Store Singapore online and then send it to Italy. Please answer.
    Thank you :)

They will not send it to Italy.
If you want to take possession in Singapore and ship it yourself to Italy, you could.
When it arrives in Italy, your new MacBook will be subject to VAT at its brand-new value, perhaps 17 percent of the full Retail price.
I am not sure what you are trying to accomplish, but this does not seem to save you any money.

  • I want to buy unlock and activation from Apple officially, is it real?

As for me, I live in Russia, and want to buy this excellent device and use it in my home cellular network. As I know, some of the European operators may unlock your contract cellphone, if you pay them a termination fee. And what about Apple? Look, iPhone itself costs $400 now, plus $175 fee for AT&T (activation code), plus $500-600 for Apple (I think, it's honest price for unlock), and what we have? $1200 or so, it's a good overall price for this perfect phone (even w/out copy&paste, 3rd party apps, etc.) I'm really ready for this payment, and not only me. But it must be honest deal, as I don't want to have an iBrick with the next software update, as it happens with hacked and unlocked phones. So why not? I don't want to go by the crime way (unlock), and I want to have an iPhone in Russia with its full functionality, to call with my home SIM card, and no hacks, no mods, no tricks with hardware. So, is it real?
    Excuse me for my English.
    Eugene.

Apple does not offer, nor support iPhones on networks other than AT&T (US) O2 (England) and Orange (France). There is no way to get a phone for any other network from Apple.
To get a phone to work on your network, you must get a 3rd party unlocked phone which will have no support and can currently not be upgraded fully.

  • Buy MDD power supply from Apple

I just found a link suggesting that you can buy a new MDD power supply from Apple. I had tried clicking on their parts link but it just takes me round and round. Can you buy one online or do you have to call them up?

As an original owner of a G4 MDD DP1.0GHz, AND having MISSED the power supply recall/exchange for the "VERY NOISY" Fan and power-supply combo, I am wondering if this will take me half-way, or all the way to where I would be if I hadn't missed that opportunity?
Sorry if this is confusing... in other words, will this solve my "Noise" problem that I've had ever since I bought the machine in 2002?

  • I already have an iPhone with Verizon, my upgrade isn't until next June 2014. Can I buy the iPhone 5s from Apple and still use it with verizon?

I dropped my phone in some water and I don't have apple care. It's been about a week and I'd rather put the money into fixing my iPhone 4 to an iPhone 5s. But I'm not sure if I can just buy the phone from Apple and still use it with verizon. Can someone help?

Yes, Apple will sell you an iPhone you can use with Verizon.

  • Can i safely buy an ebay battery from hongkong?

Living on a boat, power is always an issue and the 12v problem hasn't been solved by anyone yet!! I want to buy a second battery so that when I am running a generator to charge other batteries I can stock up and have more usage of my laptop. A new one from the apple store is £100 but ebay are selling for £50 (new) from China and Hong Kong, has anyone bought these and are they the real deal? I'd hate to buy one and it overheats and explodes or doesn't hold a charge etc etc.

I've purchased a few "genuine" Apple products from China/Hong Kong from different vendors on eBay. All I can say is that, almost everything I bought worked, but far from genuine.
So don't expect quality Apple products from eBay. I'd stick to US sellers with high feedback ratings.

  • Buying iPhone 5 - eBay or from Apple?

    Hello
I just bought an iPhone 5 on eBay that is locked to Sprint.  I now have to sell that one because I am on Verizon and it is not compatible.
    I'm wondering if:
    A) With Verizon iPhone 5s, do they come with a pre-installed 4G sim card?  If so, and if I buy one online without one, what do I do?
    B) I looked on Apples website and the only way you can buy an iPhone not on contract is with T-Mobile or GSM.  Verizon is CDMA though...  So how can I even buy a Verizon iPhone at full price?
Please let me know what I can do...  My upgrade is not for a year and a half and my current Windows Phone is awful.
Thanks in advance for anyone that can help me out!!!
    -Ky

No, Verizon phones do not come with pre-installed 4G sim card.  First of all, you can't get 4G sim cards anyway. Sim cards are sim cards and are not 4G or anything else.  Whether or not you can get 4G is down to the phone carrier that you use.
Both Verizon phones and Sprint phones are CDMA phones, so they DO NOT use a sim card.  With the iPhone 5, they do have a sim card slot that is unlocked and can be used when you travel to insert local sim cards.  When you get back to the US, then you take the sim card out and it will revert back to using CDMA.
The unlocked iPhones are all GSM phones on the Apple website and you can use them with T-Mobile or AT&T.
If you want a Verizon phone, then as this is a CDMA phone, you need to purchase it from Verizon.  As far as I know, you can't purchase either a Verizon or Sprint iPhone 5 without having a contract because they are CDMA phones.
If you want to know for sure, then go to your nearest Apple store and ask if you can purchase a Verizon iPhone 5 or failing that, go to a local Verizon store.
In the end, if you want a Verizon phone, it is a CDMA phone and does not come with a sim card, because CDMA phones do not use sim cards, although with the advent of the iPhone 5, they do have sim card slots for use when travelling.

  • HT201328 Does buying an unlocked iphone from apple disable some features

I am currently looking to get an iphone5 and saw Apple sells unlocked iphones.  I currently have an iphone4 that was an At&t phone but I had them unlock it when my contract expired.  I switched over to Straighttalk and it doesnt allow my MMS features to work on their plan.  Ive tried to switch the MMS settings but nothing worked.  If I was to buy an iphone5 would it work on any system with different sim cards and if I had to change the settings would  I be able to restore them to the way it was when i purchased it in case certain things dont work.  Please help

Yes. The T-Mobile nanoSIM which came with the  full price, unlocked iPhone 5 will work for a prepaid plan. However, neither Apple retail store employees nor the T-Mobile customer svc reps know this. It was quite an ordeal to activate. I had to order the prepaid activation kit online, wait for its arrival by snail mail, then use the activation code from the kit with the nanoSIM to activate the prepaid monthly plan $30/mon for 100 min+ unlim text + 5 GB 4G/LTE. I live in Pasadena, CA, and the 4G and LTE coverage here is extensive and reliable.
I tossed the SIM which came with the activation kit.
My local T-Mobile retail store wouldn't sell me a prepaid activation kit when I told them that I wanted the web-only $30/mon plan. The customer svc reps couldn't or wouldn't give me an activation code to use either.
