Disable PDF security Save/Save-as

Is Acrobat have a feature to disable the Save/Save-as in a PDF Document?  Alternative any creative ways to view for web browser and prevent user from saving the PDF Document?
Appreciate your expertise for guidance.

However, none of that helps once the PDF is displayed because the user can save it using the PDF viewer. There is no security that can stop a PDF from being saved, shared, copied and emailed.
DRM (at a 5-6 figure sum) could protect the file so unauthorized copies can't be opened.

    Based on that comment, I would suggest you recreate the PDF from that app. Apparently there is something in the app that set the security. You would have to check with the app if security continues to be set as to the password. You might try a blank password or our OS password (but take care you are not sending your passwords out by way of some JavaScript).

  • How to make pdf files save protected

    Hi,
         We have displayed some company policy documents on our portal, we want to make those pdf files save protected and print protected, i.e we want to make the save and print button disabled.
    Can you please help out with this issue.

    Hi,
    In your case, you cannot do much to protect the PDF unless you create a Repository Filter (Content Filter) in which you change the security settings of the PDF file.
    This needs some expertise in modifying PDF documents with some Java PDF libraries.
    Check googling for Java PDF libraries, you will find some and get acquainted to them and start programming.

    Cannot send email. When I click Write the window does not open properly. Does not have the "send, spelling, attach, security, save line there. Then when I click File, then Send now it will not send. A message comes up saying my SMTP server failed. Have check and everything appears to be o.k.

    Hi Stephen,
    What version of MS Office are you using?
    Are you facing the issue similar to that mentioned here: Acrobat/Reader: Attach to Email button not working for PDFs referenced from long URLs
    Open Acrobat. Use the click-path Edit - Preferences - select the Category "Email Accounts". In the dialog there is the "Add Account" drop-down. Select "Add Other". The "Add Webmail Account" dialog presents. You'll fill out the dialog's fields with Outlook.com settings. (don't forget the "Advance Settings" button)
    From a look-see on the web it appears that the following are the needed settings. BUT, you'll be wanting to validate.
    The Outlook.com SMTP server settings for sending outgoing messages from an email program on desktop, cell phone or mobile device are:
    • Outlook.com SMTP server address: smtp.live.com
    • Outlook.com SMTP user name: Your full Outlook.com email address (not an alias)
    • Outlook.com SMTP password': Your Outlook.com password
    • Outlook.com SMTP port: 587
    • Outlook.com SMTP TLS/SSL encryption required: yes
    For incoming messages from an Outlook.com account to an email program using POP, use the Windows Live Hotmail POP3 server settings.
    The Outlook.com POP server settings for downloading new incoming messages to email program, cell phone or mobile device are:
    • Outlook.com POP server address: pop3.live.com
    • Outlook.com POP user name: Your full Outlook.com email address (not an alias)
    • Outlook.com POP password: Your Outlook.com password
    • Outlook.com POP port: 995
    • Outlook.com POP TLS/SSL encryption required: yes

  • Save PDF not Save As

    I open a PDF file (Any Type of PDF file) into Acrobat reader 10 or 11 and add a comment. If I click the "Save" button the "Save As" dialog pops up. Why? Tried Adobe Support but they do not support any free products. I told them that I have a paid subscription as well but wanted to know why this didn't work. I told support I think it is a bug but he just referred me to a bug report form.
    Does anyone have a work around for this issue. The person I'm helping doesn't have Acrobat (Full) but needs to be able to add Comments and just save the file - Not Save As

    Sabian - I've tried all types of PDF files on 3 different computers, 2 of which were 32 bit XP machines and 1 that was 64bit Windows 7. The 2 - 32bit machines on XP had Reader 11.0.07 and the 64 bit Windows 7 had Reader 10. I still get the same result. So would it be possible for you take a snap shot of the PDF security properties and maybe a few screen shots of your preferences?
    Let me clarify - You opened a PDF file, Made a comment and click the save disk icon or click "Save" under the file menu? And it just saved the document with no Windows Explorer window popping up with "Save As" and the ability to change the file name etc.
    I really can't figure it out.

  • Open all pages in a PDF and save them as sequential files

    I'm trying to make a script that will open all pages in a multi-page PDF and save them as sequential files, but I have had no luck with the simple script in the "Adobe Ilustrator CS5 Reference: JavaScript".
    there example to open a PDF to a designated page does not work for me in Illustrator CS 5.
    // Opens a PDF file with specified options
    var pdfOptions = app.preferences.PDFFileOptions;
    pdfOptions.pDFCropToBox = PDFBoxType.PDFBOUNDINGBOX;
    pdfOptions.pageToOpen = 2;
    // Open a file using these preferences
    var fileRef = filePath;
    if (fileRef != null) {
    var docRef = open(fileRef, DocumentColorSpace.RGB);
    if anyone can get me on the right path it would be appreciated.

    Hi DuanesSFK,
    you can open a PDF page on this way (tested with CS3 and 5):
    //OpenPDFpage2.jsx
    var uILevel = userInteractionLevel;
    app.userInteractionLevel = UserInteractionLevel.DONTDISPLAYALERTS;
    // Opens a PDF file with specified options
    var pdfOptions = app.preferences.PDFFileOptions;
    pdfOptions.pDFCropToBox = PDFBoxType.PDFBOUNDINGBOX;
    pdfOptions.pageToOpen = 2;
    // Open a file using these preferences
    //var fileRef = filePath;
    var fileRef = File("~/Desktop/YourOwn.pdf");
    if (fileRef != null) {
    var docRef = open(fileRef, DocumentColorSpace.RGB);
    app.userInteractionLevel = uILevel;
    To open all pages you have to loop through all pages etc.
    Easier for you:
    Search here in forum for the "open pdf" script  (I don't know the exactly name, it was written by CarlosCanto, ) This should always work for you.
    Have fun

  • Is it possible to disable the screen saver for a certain app?

    Is it possible to disable the screen saver just while a certain application is running?
    The app seems to crash when the screen saver comes on.
    Just so you know, application I'm using is Hogwasher; a newsgroup reader.

    Not really. Just disable it manually when you run that application. Then, send off a bug report to the app's developer and tell him to update it for the latest Tiger. Alternatively, use another newsgroup reader.

    The PDF has fields to fill in but then to save a copy I need to "print" to PDF not save as a pdf because that is not an option with the document.  Is there a way to do this?  HELP!

    Sorry I thought  was just a one off, it would be no use for large volumes.
    Do you not have this avaiable in the print menu in Preview with these documents?
    I have also found a link on the Adobe web site that discusses that this facilty is enabled by the creater of the PDF.
    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/acrobat/X/pro/using/WS58a04a822e3e50102bd61510979419 5ff-7e0d.w.html
    If you do a web search there are various claims on how to save a protected PDF, I have'nt a way to test the proceedures. I would want a copy of any forms that I sent off, not sure why they protect them in this way, there must be a reason.

  • Save as PDF and Save PDF as PostScript options in the Printer dialog are not supported.

    I downloaded Indesign CS3 trial and liked everything about it until I attempted to print to postscript and got that message. Nothing I have tried has helped. I have seen in various forums that others are having the same problem, but haven't found any solution offered. I am running Tiger 10.4.10 on a new Intel Imac with 3G ram. This is a procedure I use very often in my workflow, and have never had this problem with CS2 on my PC or other Macs. Is there a solution? I downloaded the .1 update and installed that and it didn't change anything.

    PLEASE SOMEONE HELP ME.
    Its the first time Im using print booklet option to save my file. I have the same problem when trying to save as pdf and get the
    "The Save as PDF and Save PDF as PostScript options in the Printer dialog are not supported."
    I'm trying to save a .pdf of a booklet of a facing pages document of A4 size each facing page for a whole size A3, then hope to let the pages be correctly arranged by inDesing, then print and staple.
    Meaning pages will be like this - Page #60 left side [of the A3] - page #1 right side [of the A3] , page # 2 right side[of the A3] - page #59 left side[of the A3] etc...
    I CANT DO IT. I tried to follow Melvin Thompson , but when I choose save .ps and open it in preview all I see is independent a4 pages and just the left ones , .. How can I save my file as .pdf ready to be printed in a3 ?
    I really appreciate any help.

  • Save as PDF or Save Book As (pdf format) Causes Frame 8 to try to quit after creating PDF

    I have Framemaker 8p273 and Acrobat distiller 8.1.3.
    When trying to creating PDFs from books using either Save as PDF OR Save Books As (PDF) file, the PDF creates FINE but the program then attempts to quit by throwing up weird dialog boxes.
    Steps to reproduce bug:
    1.Open any book
    2.Use File-->Save as PDF or File-->Save Books As and then choose type PDF
    3.PDF created fine - no errors reported in Distiller window
    4. Framemaker then throws up a small dialog box that says "cannot quit." You cannot close this box, only click OKAY.
    The only other issue that arises might be a "cannot print some graphics - will print as gray boxes"
    5. Clicking okay brings up sequence of 5 total of the same boxes (the book file has 7 files in it including the TOC).
    6. After last of 5 "cannot quit" boxes, a new Framemaker one appears, that says "Unsaved Changes in file (book name) Save before closing?" Options are Yes, No and Cancel. Yes saves file and quite Frame. No quits Frame. Cancel leaves file open.
    I have reproduced this error multiple times with different books, using both the Save as PDF and Save Book As (PDF) commands.
    File--Print Book using Acrobat printer works fine (making sure to enable the acrobat setting so bookmarks are properly generated).
    Just frustrated that the first two options cause such an annoying error. Reported as a bug.

    Jaclyn,
    I've seen this happen when an API client attempts to close a document that doesn't exist, which defaults to closing the FrameMaker session, but the session cannot close because it's in the middle of some operation. It's normally the result of sloppy code. Do you have any third-party API plugin software running? For that matter, does anyone know if the "Save as PDF" uses an API client? If so, might be a bug in that software, although it seems that there must be something unique going on here to invoke this behavior in your case.

  • How come I have to put in a keychain password every time safari or mail is opened? Is there a way I can disable it or save the password so it doesn't pop up every time?

    How come I have to put in a keychain password every time safari or mail is opened? Is there a way I can disable it or save the password so it doesn't pop up every time? Also, I have my mail account set up from my Yahoo! account and every time I open mail, it asks for the password for my Yahoo! account. I have checked save this password to keychain and it persists on popping up repeatedly.

    You don't want to disable keychain (if there's even a good way to do so), since it stores stuff like certificates and the such.  It's quite useful.
    Anyways, Keychains>Preferences>First Aid.  Check Set Login Keychain as default.  When you login, it unlocks the keychain.
    That should help you.

  • Save as Reduced Size PDF and Save as Optimized PDF do not reduce the file size.  What gives?

    Save as Reduced Size PDF and Save as Optimized PDF do not reduce the file size.  What gives?  I used Acrobat 9 to do this for a long time.  I recently received new laptop loaded with with Acrobat 10 and it does not work the same.  I typically scan 8-10 pages of receipts, combine the files in Acrobat, and then optimize to reduce the size so I can upload with my expense report.  Typically, my files were reduced to 200-400 KB.  I have a 2 MB file that will not reduce at all.

    Bernd, thank you for your attempt to help but the option dialog windows do not contain the same options.  There are numerous other posts on this forum about this issue and there is no answer.  Clearly, there is an issue.  I have submitted this issue to our internal help desk.

  • Unable to follow links in pdf document which use asynchronous pluggable protocol on Windows unless we disable extended security completely (Reader 11.0.7) - is there any other way round this?

    We have a pdf document which contains links of the format appname://some/path.
    This is using Windows Asynchronous Pluggable Protocols which we have defined in the registry so these links should launch the application with the path as an argument.
    If we disable enhanced security in Reader 11.0.7 then this works - otherwise it just fails to do anything.
    With enhanced security on, we get warning and select trust this site for all pdfs.
    Adobe then stores the first part of the path i.e. for appname://some/path it will store path in [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\11.0\TrustManager\cDefaultLaunchURLPerms].
    Don't get warning after that but the application still doesn't launch if enhanced security is enabled.

    Apologies was mislead - it's not enhanced security which is causing the issue, it is protected mode.

    I keep seeing versions of this same question, and it's always the same answer: it's the TV. Well, it happens to me as well. But it only happens when viewing programming via Apple TV. My cable is totally fine: no dimming. Only with Apple TV. So what's the answer?
