Disabling Addons in IE9 (Adobe Reader 11)

Hi everyone,
My company are about to make the move to Adobe Reader 11. Everything is ready to be deployed via SCCM, but we need to disable the Adobe Reader addon in IE.
Preferably at the HKLM level or by GPO so no users can activate it. Is this possible? I've seen many similar unanswered posts. If it comes down to it I may just make a script to delete the DLL it uses, but I've yet to see if this has a knock on effect.
Kind regards,
DJ

Hi,
Every Add-on has specific Class ID (CLSID). We use Add-on Class ID (CLSID) to disable specific Add-on through Group Policy.

  • How to disable pop up Make Adobe Reader my default PDF Application in registry

    Hi
I am wondering if there is a registry setting that can disable the pop-up Make Adobe Reader my default PDF Application ?
I have seen there is a setting under Edit\Preferences\General\"Tell me if Adobe Reader is not my default PDF Application" but cannot find a registry setting to disable this. This message pops up for some users in a remote desktop session host environment even though I have disabled the messages on the session hosts.
    Thanks,
    Andrew

    Hi Andrew_Dell,
Thank You for posting on the forums. Kindly try the below mentioned steps and check ,if it helps.
    1) launch adobe Reader
    2) Click on Edit>Preferences
    3)Go to General under Categories
    4) Click on "Select Default Pdf Handler"
    5) Choose adobe Reader
After performing this workflow, you might see an installation window. do not worry, it is just a new configuration of PDF handler being updated in the system.
    Thanks,

  • Disable automatic updates in Adobe Reader DC?

Is it possible to disable automatic updates in the Adobe Reader DC? It's not under preferences where it used to be.

In an academic environment, the inability to disable updates is unacceptable.  We have numerous computers that we intentionally never update.  For example, all student computers never update; they are frozen with a program called DeepFreeze.
And even for our employee machines, no users have admin rights, so they cannot update the program themselves.
In addition, registry hacks are an unacceptable alternative to us.  If something goes wrong, we have to explain to our CIO that we used a registry hack, and that is not going to go over well.
For now, we are going to hold off upgrading to the DC version until Adobe implements an official way to disable updates.  If they refuse to implement an official method in the coming months, we'll just start using the browsers' built-in PDF readers and not install Adobe Reader at all.

  • How to disable overprint feature in Adobe Reader 9 or 10 when printing?

    Hi,
I have a PDF document with overlapping objects (black text on top of pink text).  When I print from Adobe Reader 9 or 10 using any PCL color print driver (Windows 7 32-bit/64-bit), the pink text shows through, regardless of "Use Overprint Preview" setting in Adobe Reader Preferences.  Is there a way to turn this off for printing using any setting in Adobe Reader 9 or 10?  I don't want the pink text to show through, which is what is displayed on screen when I set "User Overprint Preview" to Never.  Print As Image didn't help either.
    Thanks!

You are, I'm afraid, chasing an impossible security that cannot exist. Many have sought this, but it just isn't there -- and there is so much more than the save button involved.
If you are a big enterprise with sensitive information consider DRM solutions ($$$$+).

  • Disable Printing Dialogue in Adobe Reader

I'm looking for a way to totally block/hide the printing dialogue in Adobe Reader 7.0.
As far as I know the only way to do this is to drop a script in the JavaScript folder to manipulate the whole application (catching the application initialization event). Is this right?
I can't create my own dialogs and printing methods via an embedded script because I'm dealing only with the Reader.
Can anyone provide some hints how to realise that?

    > I can't create my own dialogs and printing methods via an embedded script because I'm dealing only with the Reader.
You can still develop plug-ins for Reader that will override the standard print dialog and replace it with your own. There is a document called "Developing for Adobe Reader" that comes with the SDK. Find it here:
    http://www.adobe.com/devnet/acrobat/pdfs/reader_overview.pdf
With JavaScript, you cannot prevent the print dialog from coming up if the user click on File > Print or the Print button.
You can, from a folder-level script, create your own silent print function, but you cannot replace the existing print functions with it from JavaScript. This can only be done from a plug-in. You could create another button or menu item that calls your silent print function, but the original interactive methods would still be there for the user to use if they wanted.

  • Issue with Adobe Reader/IE9 after upgrade

    Hi,
We have an application that displays an interactive PDF (generated using Forms ES2) in an IFrame within the browser window (IE).  There is a button in a different frame that passes a String[] to this PDF using the "postMessage" Javascript method on the PDF object.  The setup was working fine all these years in Win XP + IE8 + Adobe Reader 9. But when we upgraded to Win  7 + IE9 + Adobe Reader X, now on click of the button, when the pdf.postMessage is getting executed, IE9 crashes with error "Internet Explorer has Stopped" working. Has any one else encoutered this kind of problem before?
I tried doing some research. The issue seems to be with IE9, but I couldnt figure out why this is happening. Any ideas will be appreciated.
    Thanks.

Can you open Reader by itself?  If so, try disabling Protected Mode [Edit | Preferences | Security (Enhanced)].

  • Adobie Reader problem using OS Vista and IE9

    Operating System = Windows Vista
    Browser = IE9
Adobe Reader long use without problems.
Previously click on link within web page and view text.
Now only white space and no text.
Deleted and reinstalled Adobe Reader with version 10.1.3.
    Problem remains.
Works appropriately on Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox.
    Would appreciate any suggestions.

Does that happen with every online PDF, e.g. http://helpx.adobe.com/content/dam/help/attachments/Acrobat_Reader_ReleaseNote_10.1.3.pdf ?

  • Disable Adobe Reader Run on Hover

I have Adobe Reader X running on and old Windows XP machine with very little memory. Lately I have noticed problems (hang-ups and freezing) and found that the culprit is a feature of Adobe Reader. Whenever my cursor passes over a PDF file in Windows Explorer, the PC has to stop and run Adobe Acrobat. This is quite a nuisance as the machine has very little memory and is slow to open and run programs. And since all I am doing is moving the mouse through a list of files in Explorer (not really landing on or opening the PDF file), it's totally unnecessary.
Is there any way to disable this feature of Adobe Reader?

Found that this is due to Adobe Shell Extension for "Info Tip". Tracking someone else's thread on this annoyance, and closing mine.

  • Opening PDF's in IE Browser randomly freeze - Adobe Reader Version 11.0.06

    Hi,
We have an Intranet site which has a lot of PDF documents on it, when clicking on the hyperlink for documents the status dialog appears and will randomly freeze and not open the document. Turning the addon off for Adobe Reader so that they open in the Reader interface resolves the problem as does using Chrome or firefox also using Foxit reader resolves the issue.
Has anybody else come across the issue and resolved it? I have attached a screenshot of the status bar showing how it stops randomly at any point.

All I can suggest is that you try a repair of Internet Explorer: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/318378

  • Adobe Reader XI freezes computer when opened from Excel hyperlink

My computer has been frozen multiple times after opening a pdf from a hyperlink in Excel. Sometimes it randomly freezes after reading the document for a while and sometimes it freezes when I try to close the document. I have Adobe Reader XI 11.0.06, I'm using Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit OS, and Excel 2010. The mouse will still move sometimes once things freeze up but clicking doesn't work and alt+ctrl+del doesn't bring up task manager either, so I have to hard reboot. Anyone have a fix for this?
    Thanks in advance.

The first thing I would try is to disable Protected Mode in Adobe Reader [Edit | Preferences | Security (Enhanced)].

Try disabling Protected Mode in Adobe Reader [Edit | Preferences | Security (Enhanced)].
If you cannot keep Reader running to change the above setting, try disabling it via the registry: download, unzip, then run the registry script from https://files.acrobat.com/a/preview/06befba0-92aa-4996-bced-587054e0cf26

Question?  I tried to print a statement this morning with Adobe Reader XI.  A screen appeared telling me that Adobe Reader XI had stopped working and that windows was checking for a problem.  I thought I could just download a new Adobe Reader XI but it tells me that the program already exists.  I am not very good technically so if anyone can help I would appreciate it.
