Disabling Intego Virus Barrier Real Time Scanning Solved my Problem

I was having terrible problems trying to get time capsule to work with my macbook pro until i permanently disabled Intego Virus X5 Barrier's Real Time Scanning. This solved my problem. Hopefully it might help somebody out there too.

Often times, considering how advanced malware has gotten, a System Restore will simply result in getting infected again. Most infections I've come across tend to occur months before they actually strike and are found. If they are one of those infections that slip in overnight (those JavaScript ones that slip in through Advertisements and infected search results), those tend to infect even the System Restore points. System Restore is a handy tool to have, but it isn't bulletproof.
When such issues happen, MalwareBytes Anti-Malware and SUPERAntiSpyware are wonderful, free pieces of software to have around. Best scanners out there for Malware that are updated daily. To be on the safe side before you start messing with the system anymore, download and install MalwareBytes (http://www.malwarebytes.org) along with SUPERAntiSpyware (http://www.superantispyware.com) and perform a full scan with both scanners. Clean out any infections found, reboot if needed, and then we can go from there to see why the Security Suite is acting up.
When you install the Verizon Internet Security Suite (McAfee under the hood), one of the first things it does is disables the built-in Windows Defender as well as the Windows Firewall, since the Security Suite includes a Firewall and a Spyware scanner with itself. Having two Firewalls and/or real-time scanners in operation can cause some rather nasty problems, besides dragging down system performace. So yes, if the security suite is installed, it's normal for Defender and Windows Firewall to be disabled. When the suite is removed, Defender and Windows Firewall should automatically be re-enabled.

  • Netprotect plus. Real-time scanning constantly swi...

I keep getting told my "Computer is at risk".  When I check, I find my "Real-Time scanning" is switched off.  However I try, when I switch it back on, moments later it is off again.  With a bit of fiddling about, I can get it to remain "active".  However, the moment I open "Outlook Express 6" I become unprotected, once again.  Thereafter, "Netprotect Plus" is overly sensitive and drops out continually, even if I've closed " Outlook Express 6".  I have to fiddle about with it again, making sure "Outlook Express" is closed, to get it to remain operating "as it should".
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

The real time scanner can become disabled (turned off) if
    1) There's a conflict with another installed antivirus software
(for example, I had to remove MSE, not just deactivate it)
    2) There's a virus on the PC - I suggest using Malwarebytes (can be used with BTNP)
       http://www.filehippo.com/download_malwarebytes_anti_malware/
Pay close attention during download to make sure you untick any toolbars or additional extras
(A desktop shortcut is all you need and you can manually update, rather than automatically)
You could be suprised by what it finds that BTNP didn't!
    3) A BTNP update didn't install correctly
    4) You've carried out a system restore on your PC - BTNP should update and correct itself after a short time
    Possible solutions
    remove BTNP using add/remove
Use the McAfee removal tool (steps 1&2 only) - http://service.mcafee.com/FAQDocument.aspx?id=TS100507
    Then download it again.
    or
XP - Click Start, Run, type services.msc, and click OK.
Vista or 7 - Type services.msc in search, right-click services, select Run As Administrator, then click Yes.
Look for McShield service and check the status.
If the status is Stopped, right-click the McShield service and click Start.
When McShield displays started, close the window.
Open BTNP and verify that Real-Time Scanning is enabled.
    Close BTNP
Restart computer and check real time scanner again.
If Real-Time Scanning still switches off
*Download and run the oas-disabled-fix.cmd utility
    http://download.mcafee.com/products/licensed/cust_support_patches/oas-disabled-fix.cmd
Restart the computer after tool completes.
The real time scanner should stay enabled now.

  • Intego virus barrier plus on osx lion 10.7.2

I purchased an intego virus barrier plus at apple store, when I upgraded to osx 10.7.2 it causes problem when I shut down or reboot,my macbook pro will not start,so I re install again the osx 10.7.1 using the dvd disc installer,it start with no problem.
Does this intego virus barrier plus compatible with Lion osx 10.7.2?

To be honest... just looking at the two sites...  ClamXav and Intego... ClamXav seems much less "the sky is falling" going in favor of the "these are the facts" approach.  In fact, I've never read the ClamXav home page... but what they say is pretty much exactly what I would tell anyone asking about antivirus software on a Mac.  Basically, I would have no problem quoting what ClamXav has on their site.  I think quoting what Intego has on there site would come across as being a bit alarmist.  I can certainly say if I quoted what is on the Intego site to someone asking about antivirus software for their Mac, I would instantly get tons of people responding.  But hey, they're selling a product.  I don't find what they say to be nearly as offensive as what some other companies try to do (namely the fake pop-ups telling  you that your system is infected and you must download their app to fix it).  I also like that ClamXav offers useful best practices suggestions... which is really the best way of avoiding getting nasties on your system.
    ClamXav:
    http://www.clamxav.com/about.php
Back in the days before OS X, the number of viruses which attacked Macintosh users totalled somewhere between about 60 and 80.  Today, the number of viruses actively attacking OS X users is none.  However, this doesn't mean we should get complacent about checking incoming email attachments or web downloads.
Firstly, there's no guarantee that we Mac users will continue to enjoy the status quo, especially as there is now a small handful of trojans for OS X, but more importantly, the majority of the computing world uses machines running MS Windows, for which an enormous quantity of viruses exist, so we must be vigilant in checking the files we pass on to our friends and colleagues etc.
For example, if you're a wise person and you've turned off MS Office's macro support then you're not going to notice that virus which is hiding inside this month's edition of Extreme Ironing.doc which your friend sent you.  If you then forward that document to a less wise person who has not turned off the macro support, then you have most likely just sent him a shiny new Pandora's Box with a sign saying "Open this end"!
Flippancy aside, I'm sure you get the idea: check the file before opening and/or sending it on to someone else.  This gives you the opportunity to avoid the file altogether or at least copy and paste any vital information into a new document and send that instead.
Don't forget, if you run VirtualPC or VirtualBox or use any other means to run MS Windows software on your Mac, you can still become infected within that environment and lose valuable data on your Mac.  These programs will run almost any Windows application you tell it to - virus or no virus - it doesn't know the difference.  Note that ClamXav can only protect you against malware which you download and check on the Mac, so you may still want to install other antivirus software within your Windows environment.
    Why do it?
Way back in 2004, I was looking for a low cost solution for scanning emails, documents and downloads for viruses.  The open-source ClamAV project seemed to fit the bill and I used it for a few months, but soon tired of using the command line to operate it, so I took it upon myself to develop a graphical front-end in my own spare time.  ClamXav was the result.
Since then, numerous features have been requested and implemented, and ClamXav has gone from strength to strength.  When ClamXav turned 5 years old in September 2009, I released an new version, ClamXav 2.0, built from the ground up with an entirely new interface.  It remained as beta software for about 18 months before finally being unleashed.
    Is it really free?
I hope you like ClamXav and use it a lot and that it helps keep you and your friends/colleagues virus-free.  Although I'm providing ClamXav for free, I am increasingly spending more and more time developing it and would really appreciate if you would consider making a donation please.  All donations (no matter how small) are gratefully received and would be a huge incentive to help me work on future versions of ClamXav, but more importantly I rely on donations to pay for my bandwidth costs. Please consider it.

Only VirusBarrier X6 provides comprehensive protection                from malware and network threats. VirusBarrier X6 is the only                antivirus program for Mac that includes full anti-malware protection                together with firewall, network protection, anti-phishing, anti-spyware            features and more.
As malware changes, protection needs to be reinforced
While viruses, Trojan horses, worms and other forms of malware                are a constant threat to computers of all kinds, cyber-criminals                are turning to new techniques to infect and control your Mac. These new threats come silently,              with little warning, over the Internet: in many cases, simply visiting              a booby-trapped web page can compromise your Mac. Focusing on malware              or network attacks alone is no longer sufficient to protect Macs from the dangers of the              Internet.
    Comprehensive protection with VirusBarrier X6
VirusBarrier X6, the latest version of Intego's network and malware                security program, includes more than 100 new features. With multiple                threat-detection techniques, improved methods of detection, combined                detection protocols, proactive behavioral analysis, and a full                range of defensive functions, VirusBarrier X6 protects Macs from                all known network-based threats, as well as all known malware.

  • BT NetProtect plus – Real time scanning and update...

I have posted this message as both a pointer in case others have the same issue as well as whether anyone has found a proper resolution.
I have recently experianced problems with my BT NetProtect plus indicating the Real time scanning has stopped and any attempt to restart it does not work. This is accompanied with it keep promptig that there is a new update and to restart the computer. This happened every time I logged on.
I had spent some considerable time with the BT support people who have now reinstalled the software about 6 time's after the 2 time I had already tried.
I run Windows 7 64 bit and recently installed an SSD drive. The key thing I have subsequently discovered in my upgrade is that I changed some registry settings to make my default installation location to be my D: drive. I followed this post :
The 64bit version has two versions of regedit. Make this change as well:
1.) Enter into Start>Run: %systemroot%\syswow64\regedit 2.) Go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion 3.) Change the Path in DWORDs ProgramFilesDir, ProgramFilesDir (x86) to the new path, probably just changing the drive letter
Everything works fine apart from BT NetProtect plus which when installed new has the above issue.  If I change the default install location back to C: drive then it installs OK and works OK when I subsequently change the default install location back to the D: drive. When I say works OK, that is until BT NetProtect plus issues a major update when the same problem appears again.
I am waiting further contact from the 3rd line helpdesk but the 2nd line team did not seam to know of this problem.
Has anyone else experenced it or know of a proper solution ?

A full McAfee scan on my desktop PC can take about 2 hours or so and a full scan sometimes slows down my over 3 year old desktop PC. Thats why I only do a full McAfee scan every once in a while but I do a quick McAfee scan every 6 or 7 days.
I do like the McAfee shredder though and use that now and again. I also got McAfee quick clean set to run at lest twice a week.
I have used Norton in the past and that slowed down my last PC more than McAfee from BT. The free version of AVG is good but its only an anti-virus. Some say the windows firewall is ok but not the best.
I also have windows defender set to do a quick scan every evening around 9pm. As most nights I have my Desktop PC on at that time.
I also do a disk clean up at leat once a day.

Yes. Uninstall Intego Virus Barrier. You don't need it.

Different operating systems require different solutions. Microsoft Security Essentials is decent, easy to set up, and free.

  • Real time scanning keeps shutting off in security suite

real time scanning keeps going off and have to keep putting it back on

I, too, have the Droid 4 and have experienced the random shut downs, tho not as frequently as you seem to be experiencing it.  You said you did a factory reset - another option to try (that seems to help mine) is a system cache clear...
    Power down phone
Hold volume up/down & power simultaneously until you see the Boot Mode Selection Menu
Use volume down to navigate to 'Recovery', use volume up to select
Should see screen with triangle and exclamation point next to an Android
Press volume up/down simultaneously to go into system recovery
Use volume rocker to navigate to 'wipe cache' and use power button to select
Once finished, use volume rocker to navigate to 'reboot system now' and use power button to select
It also may be a rogue app or a conflict with an app.  Have you recently installed a new app?  If so, try removing it ans see if that improves things.
How long have you had the phone?  Is it still within the one year manufacturer's warranty?

im trying to change my password for my apple id but its says that my account has been disabled for security reasons, how can i solve this problem?

Depending on why it's been disabled you might be able to re-enable it via this page : http://appleid.apple.com, then 'reset your password'
Or you might need to contact Apple : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page
If it then works on your computer's iTunes but not your phone/iPad then try logging out of your account on the phone/iPad by tapping on your id in Settings > Store (Settings > iTunes & App Stores on iOS 6) and then log back in and see if that 'refreshes' the account on it

After every Firefox 34.0 reloading my add-ons have been switched off by unknown program or virus. Although i can switch them on and reboot firefox to fix it, but it is a little bit boring. How can i solve this problem?

Sometimes a problem with Firefox may be a result of malware installed on your computer, that you may not be aware of.
You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:
    * [http://www.microsoft.com/security/scanner/default.aspx Microsoft Safety Scanner]
    * [http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free/ MalwareBytes' Anti-Malware]

    * [http://www.surfright.nl/en/hitmanpro/ Hitman Pro]
    * [http://www.eset.com/us/online-scanner/ ESET Online Scanner]
[http://windows.microsoft.com/MSE Microsoft Security Essentials] is a good permanent antivirus for Windows 7/Vista/XP if you don't already have one.

  • Standby DB real time redo log apply problem

    Hi all,
I am using Oracle 10g to create physical standby db. In the standby
db, normal archived log apply does not have problem, but when I try to
use redo log real time apply and issue command
    SQL> ALTER DATABASE RECOVER MANAGED STANDBY DATABASE USING CURRENT LOGFILE;
    it shows:
    ERROR at line 1:
ORA-38500: USING CURRENT LOGFILE option not available without stand
    What is the problem??
    Thanks a lot !
    Steven

    Note:3633226.8 from Metalink states:
Setting a standby's RealTimeApply property to ON when there are no standby
redo logs on the standby or the standby is not in SYNC transport, will
seemingly succeed. However, the apply engine will not start. The DRC log
will report an error like ORA-38500. In this case, add standby redo logs
and set the log transport mode for the standby to be SYNC and set the
    standby state to ONLINE.
    Workaround:
Add Standby Redo Logs on the standby and set the following broker properties
    on the standby:
LogXptMode to SYNC and reset RealTimeApply to ON.
Then set the standby state to ONLINE.

  • Disable auto-scrolling or real-time rendering in CS6

I work at a radio station and volunteers come in to read for a special reader service for the blind. When they record into Audition, the scrolling waveform is a distraction. In AA 3.0 there was a way to keep the screen from scrolling once the cursor went beyond the initial view. I can't figure out how to do that in CS6. The other thing I was thinking was to try and disable the waveform from rendering at all until after the recording was done.
    Thanks!

I see.  If the view is fully zoomed-out, then it will continue to maintain that view as the waveform fills the display and new space is allotted.  If you zoom in a single "notch" it should stop that.
I just tried the trick of exposing the separate Transport panel and closing the Editor panel, which would work if you've already created the empty file to record into.  However, when you begin recording, the panel does open itself.  You can close it again and keep it hidden from view.
You may also want to make this panel very small, or create a "Recording" workspace, where it's sized very small if it's that distracting to the readers.

  • Virus Barrier X6 causing problems with Lion 10.7.1

After posting in these forums that third party installation software launches spontaneously with Lion 10.7.1, I'd like to share my experience with Virus Barrier X6 ver. 10.6.14.
I found the latest update from Intego Virus Barrier (dated Sept. 29, 2011) has problems with OS Lion 10.7.1. When it scans installation files, (e.g. .dmg files from Apple or third parties), it unpacks them but then has problems closing and ejecting opened .dmg files. Specifically, only after updating Virus Barrier X6 definitions to the Sep. 29th 2011 definitions, installation files opened onto my desktop whenever Virus Barrier scans for viruses.
Whether this is related to other problems reported with Finder in Mac OS Lion 10.7, or if this is a problem for Apple or Intego or both to solve, I don't know. I hope someone fixes it though.
    Mac OS 10.7.1
    Intego Virus Barrier X6, 10.6.14, update 9/29/2011

@babowa - Interestingly, I tried ClamXav prior to using virus barrier and the problems you mention (regarding antivirus software proflems), ironically, are issues I had only with ClamAV. It turned my computer into a slug whenever running scans, which I just couldn't work with. VirusBarrier runs very well for me.
I have run ClamXav on my Mac for many years, without the problems you indicate. It is mainly to satisfy some network requirements for an antivirus to be installed, such as university campuses and the commercial environment.
I once tried an early version of Sophos anti-virus which slowed everything down. I think antivirus software taken from the PC environment and hastily adapted for the Mac market are generally not good.
Why don't you take the matter to the Intego forum, where it belongs?
Tycoon24 says  "Then if your computer has somehow mysteriously imploded before being vaporized under its own pressure due to Intego's Mac anti-malware software - maybe try ClamXav and according to babowa things should magically become stable:"
While I admire your obvious ability at hyperbole, I appreciate your underlying idea, that there may be other issues with the poster's computer that could be affecting it's use with any antivirus software.

  • Real Time kernel questions

I decided to compile myself a new kernel using a PKGBUILD from AUR, which contains Ingo Molnar's real time patch. I know that there are some entries int the wiki about this (Kernel Compilation with ABS, Custom Kernel Compilation with ABS, Kernel Patches and Patchsets), but they don't answer all of my doubts.
The major question is related to my graphic card's drivers. I'm a happy Radeon user using fglrx proprietary drivers. At the moment they are working fine on a vanilla kernel form [core], the problem is whether I would have to do some voodoo to make them work on a rt-kernel? Now I know what is written in wiki about installing Catalyst drivers on a custom kernel, but when on Mandriva I tried to install 8.1 on my rt-kernel, I had to do some tricks and recompile fglrx to make it work. Does anyone tried installing Catalyst drivers ver. 8.2 on a real-time kernel from AUR?
Another thing: I have a .config file from the previous rt-kernel. Would it be suitable for 2.6.24?
Finally, I recently read about grsecurity patchset. Did anyone tried it on Arch, especially on a real time kernel? Any problems?
    Waiting for suggestions

broch wrote:first I hope that you understand that RT kernels on desktops are slower than preempt default or vanilla kernel?
I'm using one on my Mandriva 2008.0 and didn't notice any slowdown.
broch wrote:second: I use grsec (or RSBAC) kernels.
grsec will not work with anything messing up with memory (even Kolivas patches in past had issues with grsec). This can be fixed but then what is the point of enabling hardened kernel with disabled features?
I simply patch vanilla with grsec.
Remember that some pax options are incompatible with X (all explained when option is selected, so no way to make mistake)
finally it works well lowest overhead, best speed and easies to manage among kernel hardening patches (I do not count Apparmor, as this is rather limited tool)
If I understood you, then it's a choice between real time and more security, right?

  • Obtaining data in real-time from Microstrain wireless orientation sensor 3DM-GX2

    Hello, all.
    I am using
a wireless inertial sensor 3DM-GX2 with a USB Base Station from
Microstrain, and I want to read and use data values from it in LabView in real time.
But the problem is that I am not able to use the LabView examples or
the SDK provided by Microstrain either.
    Link for SDK is here:
    http://www.microstrain.com/updates/orientation-sdk.zip
    I
have used the VI called "Read Accel and Ang Rate Serial.vi". I chose
the correct COM port for my sensor, that is COM3. When I run, I get an error in the node "VISA Read" (code -1073807339). Attached you can see a snapshot of this VI.
    However,
I don't know if I have to use this VI because my sensor is a wireless
sensor (USB Base Station linked to 3DM-GX2 inertial sensor) and this
seems to be a program for reading from a serial sensor.
You can see in the link: http://forums.ni.com/ni/board/message?board.id=250&thread.id=42319&view=by_date_ascending&page=3; that there is another topic related to this, in which the discussion ended up with the users being able to read from the sensor, but I can't understand what they discussed there about communication protocols. I think I would need basic information so I could fix
    my problem.
    I am using LabView 8.6.
I hope you can help me. Thanks in advance.
