hi all, i am writing an internet cafe management system, and its required that clients do not access the start button, although it will be visible but will not respond to mouse clicks or keybord events.
And also how do i disable ALT+TAB when my program is running.

Event if using vb.net it won't be happen (i think). Why do you want the client did not access the start menu? if you want the client canot access the control panel, why dont just you hide the control panel menu from start menu? (i dont know how to do that, but maybe a little googling will help). Because yesterday, i go on internet cafe and can only access the Program and Shutdown menu.

I have had my new T410 (I7), with Windows 7, for two weeks. This morning I started the laptop and I could access the start button or the program icons on the task button. I called tech support in Atlanta, and was told I had a corrupt operating system and would have to reimage the hard drive which will require backing up my data and, after reimaging, reinstalling my programs and data. Disabling Window's start button

Is it possible to disable the Window's start button of a workstation using a Java application running on a server.
The workstations are connected and should be controlled by a centralized server. IP address are known for each workstation and we want to enable or disable the workstation's start button (all windows 98, 95, ME) from the server via a Java application.
Is this possible. Any idea how i'll go about this? Do I need to call a Windows API? How will that be done. Any idea, link worth pursuing will be greatly appreciated.

I just got an Iphone 5, and it requested an update. I plugged it in and connected it to my home wifi and now I can not use it at all. The only thing that shows on the screen is the itunes symbol. I tried to hold the start button and the enter button, but that does nothing. I have pictures and videos on the phone, is there any way to retrieve them?

Plug it into your computer and restore it. It is in recovery mode. Anything that was on the phone is already gone. If the pictures and videos were not backed up, then there is no way to retrieve them.

Start Button and Search Icon

I accidentally installed 'mystartsearch' and could not remove it, so I restored Windows to the previous day.   This fixed the problem but it has disabled the Start Button and the Search Icon.

and this removed a few things but nothing obviously to do with the Start button - I have the log file if necessary.
I can right click the Start Button and that works, but left does nothing.   The Search just does nothing, but I can turn it off again.

In fact further testing and none of the apps seem to work.   The calculator just tries to open and disappears again, as does the Feedback app, and the Calendar app.
Can I repair this or will I have to wait for the next release of Win10?

It is possible that you are missing a couple of Windows Updates since you performed a system restore to a previous date.
And, since you cannot use the Start button in order to go to Settings > Update and Recovery, please use this method posted by Inside Hub.................

When you boot Windows 10 Technical Preview, the Start menu may not appear. Checking for updates may fix this problem. To check for updates without the Start menu, do the following:
Select the Internet Explorer icon.
Type http://update.microsoft.com into the address bar and select

This should bring up the Check for updates window. Install updates.

DURIM - Okay. I would expect the "Cache Warning" message because your default directories would not be the same as the ones in the settings file I generated.
If you go back to the "7.0" directory and open the "Logs" folder, can you copy the "Audition Log.txt" file and send it as an attachment to [email protected]? We'll take a look in that logfile and see if it gives us more information about why this is failing now.
Also, do you have any other Adobe applications installed on this machine, such as Premiere Pro? If so, do they launch as expected or fail as well?
I do have the trial Pro version of Adobe reader, but I have not activated it, because I fear the same thing will happen did it. I cannot afford to activate the subscription for that product and take the chance of it not working either. I depend on those two programs religiously. Here is the files that you requested. Start Button and notification not working

Good day
I have Windows 10 Pro Technical Preview installed on a HP Pavilion dv6.
I installed “Adobe Dreamweaver CS6” yesterday. I realised that I had the wrong version for the key I have and try to do a Windows System Restore.
The restore complete after the reboot. Now the Start menu does not open when I click on the start button and the “new notification”, next to the time, does also not respond when I click on it.
I did roll forward to the original system restore point with Adobe Dreamweaver CS6installed , but I am still seeing the same issues.
Please advice

Another solution which has worked for some users who have also had issue with the Start Menu and Notifications is to re-register AppX with PowerShell using the following command:

I'm taking the computer to assistance as suggested. Even tho I'm almost 100% sure that this isn't a hardware issue.
Here is why I'm not wasting my time on my affirmative. I'm computer science bacharelor, I know about computer architeture and S.O architeture and also I'm computer developer for more than 10 years now. All behaviors presented have no connection with hardware problems. What I'm trying to say is that I'm not just saying things for saying, I have a logic behind what I say.
For a short example, whenever mouse right click stops working on a specific window/software, if I click on the window top border and drag it around and go back to the window content, the click works again.
Also, my keyboard and mouse work via usb. Usb is working normally. If I plug a usb memory stick it shows that usb is working as it should be.
On windows, right button click is also not working inside any software window, but if I click on start button, icons on desktop, anything on windows epxlorer, it works as it should be. Isnt't there bootcamp underneath windows ?
on top of it, it's a brand new mac, i have it for 5 months.
All these people that have the same problem, do u think all of them have hardware issues? Do you think Apple would keep releasing new computers with hardware problems and they wont have any information/recall for them? and worst, the problems start in a random date ?
This is my first mac and all these problems, being hardware or not, makes me lose all confidence on Apple products.

Anybody using the Windows 8 Start screen?

My original question was: Can we place bundle icons on the Windows 8 Start screen, alongside those "Modern/Metro" Windows apps?
But then I figured I should back up and ask whether anyone with a large ZCM deployment is even presenting the new Windows 8 Start screen to their users.
If you've deployed Windows 8, I'd love to hear your feedback.

I have test units that I am working with. I have had none of my current Start Menu apps showing up. This has been a minor item on my list of things to work with so I haven't investigated possible causes or if this is even supported. Honestly in my environment I would love to be able to push the older start menu/Desktop style and skip Metro. My teachers are going to freak when they start to use this new style. I had a hard time with the Windows 7 changes with some of the staff. My staff has a real hard time with change so Windows 8 is going to be a hard sell.
What type of devices are you looking at for Windows 8? I have been looking at whether I need to be looking for touch based Laptops or move to a more Tablet with a keyboard type environment.

Purple color for Start button and Settings app dissapear shortly after install completes

I have just completed a Reset of the latest win10 build 10041 to see if it would fix the error of all the grey colors. Settings app is grey and the start button is grey. Looks nothing like the screenshots I see on the web.
After install was completed and the desktop showed up, the color on the Start menu had the purple color. After a minute the screen went black with a white square in the top left corner. I pressed the Start button and the desktop was recreated but now the
Start button was back to the grey color.
I experienced exactly the same with the previous builds.
Anyone know how to fix this?

Could you please share a snapshot with us so we can better understand what happened? Regarding to the "gray", do you mean that it just has been changed to a gray color\usable or the button is totally gray out\unusable?
If it is related to color, then right click the desktop\Personalize\Color, you can change the color as you want.
If not that case, the Settings app is totally unusable, then please Open the
administrative Command Prompt and paste the following command there and hit
Enter key:
powershell -ExecutionPolicy Unrestricted Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register $Env:SystemRoot\ImmersiveControlPanel\AppxManifest.xml

What do people think of the Windows 7 Starter

What does everyone think of the Windows 7 Starter edition that comes preloaded on the netbooks? Are most people doing the upgrade to Home premium and if so how does it perform on the netbooks?

In my opinion its depending of that what you do with your notebook. I mean you have to install a lot of applications on other Windows 7 versions too and if you only use the notebook for Internet and Office I think Windows 7 Starter is enough.
Furthermore its a good idea the different versions of Windows 7. So you can save money if you dont need all functions.
