Disc won't eject, slipping

Hi, I'm having problems ejecting any kind of disc from the cube slot. When the eject button is pushed you can hear it trying to push the CD/DVD out but it just comes up far enough to see it but not enough to grab it and pull it out all the way. Any suggestions?

Your Cube uses the same optical drive as the slot-loading G3 iMacs. The problem that you're having occurs when the pair of rubber rollers that grip the disk start to dry out. When new, they're pliable and do the job nicely, but with age - they'll slip. This is what you're seeing when the disk starts to make its way out of the slot, but stalls. You can remove the optical drive and take the cover off of it, to access the internal mechanism. In this topic, one of the iMac regulars ("spudnuty") discusses the product that he uses to rejuvenate the rollers and posted a link to a photo showing the drive's rollers. Be careful not to use a harsh petroleum-based product that would soften/deform the rollers, rendering them (and the drive) useless.

Five ways to eject a stuck CD or DVD from the optical drive
Ejecting the stuck disc can usually be done in one of the following ways:
      1. Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the
left mouse button until the disc ejects.
      2. Press the Eject button on your keyboard.
      3. Click on the Eject button in the menubar.
      4. Press COMMAND-E.
      5. If none of the above work try this: Open the Terminal application in
your Utilities folder. At the prompt enter or paste the following:
            /usr/bin/drutil eject
If this fails then try this:
Boot the computer into Single-user Mode. At the prompt enter the same command as used above. To restart the computer enter "reboot" at the prompt without quotes.

  • Unreadable disc won't eject from macbook pro

    Hi everyone,
Really annoyed with the fact that this disc is proving difficult to eject. The laptop is not reading the dvd, therefore the usuall methods of ejecting a disc hasn't worked, e.g. pressing the eject button and moving the disc icon to the trash. I have tried the disk utilty application as well, still, the laptop does not recognise that there is a disc inserted!
I have tried other methods that I have read including reebooting and holding the trackpad, repeating that process with a credit card and also that didn't work. The laptop does make an effort to eject the dvd, as the ussual nioses are made, although the sound made don't sound too good. I also tried the terminal programme which resulted in the same noises but the dvd still remains stuck.
One thing I havent tried is to take it to a store or specialist but I would like to try remove it myself first as going to a store is a hassle!!! is there any other way that i havent tried
Please please help me apple community, thanks!

    Hi

    Thanks

  • Computer Frozen, Won't Load, Start Up Disc won't eject

My daughter put her computer to sleep while the pinwheel was spinning. When we opened the computer, the screen was blue and nothing would load. We shut it down and turned it back on and nothing would load, the circle under the apple just kept spinning.
I went to the manual and it said to try Disk Utility.
I inserted the start up disc and followed the instructions in the First Aid pane.
It said, "First Aid Failed. Disk Utility stopped repairing MacIntosh HD because the following error was encocuntered. --The underlying task reported failure on exit." Yeah, that makes sense to me. Huh?
I tried to Verify the Disk and it said "Volume needs repair"
Again I chose Repair Disk, but nothing, it just hung.
So I tried to exit. THen I tried to eject the disc. But the disc won't eject.
I managed to get to the Installer screen and I went into Disk Utility to see if I could eject from there, but it won't let me. Now I'm running the scan again.
    My multiple problems:
    1. computer won't load
    2. can't eject start up disc

  • Trying to install windows 7, installation disc won't eject when it needs to. Help please?!?!?!

When setting up bootcamp I install windows 7, it then asks me to eject the installation disc to continue the installation but at this point the disc will NOT eject. Help please?!?!?!
If I cancel the installation it'll eject the disc but it is at this point that I need to in order to continue and it just won't eject. I've tried the eject button, cmd E, starting again but I don't seem to be getting anywhere :s

Sorry I'm a little late, my e-mail notifications died, I was wondering why it was so quiet. Here I thought I was getting better at this.
Have you tried the USB thumb drive W7 installer way? I know 10.7 has an option now for installing a W7 installer iso onto a USB thumb drive but I don't know if 10.6 does. Search Google/yahoo for more information. Basically just make an iso of the W7 installer and copy it to the USB drive and it will boot via USB.
At least I think yours can? Not sure which models work.
Have you tried one of those CD disk cleaners? I bought one years ago and worked like a charm. (if it's dirty) It has a row of real fine bristles.
Other then that you may have a dying drive?
As far as games, make sure they are updated to run W7, other then that, that's Windows for ya.....

  • Disc won't eject, screen acting up

I don't know if this is a bi-product of my disc not ejecting, but when i restart my screen is just a gray color for a long period of time. I only recently got back to the main desktop. I have a blank disc in the drive, that won't eject. I have tried about every way possible to get the stupid thing out, but it won't eject. If anyone can explain the gray screen or why I can't get my disc out, please help. THanks.

    Hi tuckershort,
I think your mac sees the cd and tries to boot from it, since it can't find a system on that cd it gets stuck on the grey screen.
I know you mentioned "I have tried about every way possible to get the stupid thing out" but can you be more specific as to what methods you tried ?
Unplugging usb keyboard and mouse, then holding down the trackpad mousebutton while booting should eject it.
If that doesn't work i read a while ago that carefully inserting a creditcard into the slot and pressing down on the disk gently, then holding the mouse button while booting, should work.

What can I do now?! Please help!!

Thank a lot. I finally got it to work!
Now I have another problem It's posted on another topic...

hi, im having an issue with periphs on my ibook. i got a mac compatible ext. drive and it works great. problem is it won't eject. no other apps running and it still won't eject. i figured out that i had a jpg in the trash that wouldn't delete and renamed and then deleted and it started working again. that lasted a few days. now its back to the same thing of not ejecting anything i plug in. ipod, ext. harddrive, cf cardreader. any advice? thanks.

  • Disc won't eject, system now won't recognize the burner or player

Hi, looked and looked but couldn't find this covered already. I was trying to burn a DVD from IMovie via the share file option. It never would complete the burning. It's like it froze up or something. Now I can't get the disk to eject. Tried to just use the dvd player to eject but when I try to open I get the message "valid DVD player could not be found".

    Hi
    Try this:
Quit Your Mac (eventually force quitting it - by pressing start button for about 10 sec)
Now Start it but with [MOUSE BUTTON] pressed during start up procedure. Disc should be ejected.
(I by mistake wrote space - it's wrong key)

  • Discs won't eject on new iMac G5

So I was extremely excited to get my brand new iMac 20" today. Then I went to install software and when I needed eject the disc I found it got stuck in the side loader. I had to pull the sides apart a bit to get the discs out. I have made this work to get the software installed but I was wondering if anyone else was having this problem and if there is an easy fix.

A search of Google suggests that this is a common design and manufacturing defect. Apparently the drive is not sufficiently anchored in position allowing for shifting of weight and subsequently, position. Several sites reported that placing the iMac face down on a soft cloth shifted the weight of the drive sufficiently to allow for the disc to be ejected.
Most suggest the machine be taken in for repair and that perhaps even one of the Apple Genius' would do it for you while you wait.
I personally live beyond the middle of nowhere with my only option, shipping. I'd like to see if I can't come up with a more practical solution before shipping the machine out.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated!

  • HT2801 disc won't eject

I tried to burn a disc the other day, which was unsuccessful.  The disc changer spit the disc and now won't accept any.  It makes the sound as if it is trying to eject or accept a disc even when it is not being inserted or ejected. Also, I have been trying to update the software to the current os version, but it is not allowing me to up grade.

Another help source (if you haven't already done so).
Go to your OS Help Menu.  In the search field type dvd
Click on all the troubleshooting topics & Support Articles that pertain to  your issue.  You can also do the same in Disk Utility.  Open same up.
At the bottom left of the window, click on the purple button w/the "?" in the middle. This will bring up the Help Menu.

  • Discs won't eject

The tray opens & closes fine when it's empty, but when there's a disc in there it won't slide open. It tries to but it acts like it's physically jammed, only moving out a fraction of an inch, then pulling back in. If I hold the drive door open, press eject, and then quickly insert something and pry, then it opens the rest of the way. Any ideas why it might be behaving like this?

Your profile shows you have an iMac, but you posted in the eMac forum. What model Mac do you have?

  • System disc won't eject

DVD stuck in the drive. the stuck disc is the Leopard install disc.
none of the suggestions mentioned on earlier thread work.no itunes kludge, no left mouse button. it's an intel mini. no eject hole.
it tries to eject (disc spins down and I can see something moving in there--case is off right now) but it doesn't eject.
I swapped out the hard drive yesterday. I believe all the connections were restored ok on the optical and elsewhere, it did install Leopard yesterday. and all other things seem to function normally. because the mechanism in there tries to eject it, my first thought is that it is not an imperfect connection (esp since there is no issue reading the DVD...just in ejecting it.
would I be able to get to the disc by taking the op off the optical...it looks like (from peering into the slot) there's another layer under there...
if i really must, I'll replace the drive and tear this one apart. or get an external and live with the Leopard disc always available<G>

  • Leopard installer disc won't eject...

    Hi,
I'm getting really frustrated... got tons of work to do, and I can't use my mac. I accidentally rebooted my mbp with leopard's installer disc inside. Now every time my mac boots it will enter leopard's installation. I tried the CommandOption+OF thing, nothing happened.. I'm getting desperate..
    Thanks!

Don't know how the OP did it, but you have two easy choices: restart while holding down the trackpad button--that will caused the DVD to eject; alternatively, restart while holding down the option key. That will open a window that allows you to choose the startup volume. Pick the one on your MBP rather than the Leopard DVD and it will boot from the HD.
