"Disk error" message on install

I have a CD for Windows XP Pro. I ran the BootCamp partition and the first part went smoothly. After I restarted to finish the install, I got this message in a DOS formatted screen...
Disk error
Press any key to restart
When I press a key, nothing happens. I have to restart and select OSX to get my computer back up.
Any suggestions?

  • Keep getting "Can't Locate Disk" error message when installing software

    Hi!
I'm trying to install some software on my PowerBook G4 . . . every time I follow this routine:
    1) I insert the installation disk of the software.
    2) Classic 9 starts up - I then get the folder on the disk with then install icon.
    3) I toggle through 3 or 4 screens, agreeing to licenses, etc. - then . . .
    4) When I click on the "OK TO INSTALL" button an error message appears and stops my progress - it reads, "Can't locate disk" - duh! We've been working off this disk for 5 minutes - the disk shows up on the desktop - I can locate the disk - why can't my computer? Please help me if you are able - thanks!

Thanks Bob! My problem was that I was following advice from elsewhere on the internet that said I should burn a DVD in UDF format when in fact just burning it using disk utility in ISO made it work. Thank you so much!

  • 'No bootable disk' error message when installing Windows7 with Bootcamp

    Hey,
It seems so many people have had this problem which I am having now, I've tried searching for a solution that works but to no avail. So I'll give as much detail to this problem in the hope that someone knows the answer!
When running bootcamp assistant in order to install Windows 7 on my MacBook Pro (running Lion), I am able to go through all the steps - create USB installer, download software and partition hard drive. However, when the computer restarts I am faced with the black screen displaying "No bootable device - insert disk and press any key to continue". Nothing seems to work!
I've tried using a DVD instead of a usb to install Windows, using a burned copy of the ISO disk image (in UDF format) of Windows and I've tried using a sony and a san disk USB. I've tried holding down the option key on start up to see if I can select the disk manually but nothing appears (just my hard drive and the recovery mode).
Any help would be really appreciated! I'm in need of windows in order to run some programs to carry out data analysis on endangered species for research.

Thanks Bob! My problem was that I was following advice from elsewhere on the internet that said I should burn a DVD in UDF format when in fact just burning it using disk utility in ISO made it work. Thank you so much!

  • Error message after installing CS6

After installing CS6 from disk error message said, "Some items for the following product(s) could not be installed successfully." The message then listed five of the eight applications in CS6. I can't find any info about where to go to identify and resolve the issue. Please advise.

  • "Missing Disks" Error Message - Unable to open FCP

Every time I tried to open FCP, a "missing disks" error message shows up and prevents me from opening the application. It says, "To preserve the integrity of the date used by Final Cut Pro, it is necessary to ensure the existence of the following path(s):" and it says "Macintosh HD is offline." There are two options for the error message, "Check Again" or "Reset Scratch Disks." When I click "Check Again," nothing happens. When I click, "Reset Scratch Disks", it takes me to a "Scratch Disks" window, which shows, "9.8GB on Macintosh HD is offline." I click "OK", but it only takes me back the same "missing disks" error message. What should I do to solve this error and open FCP?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi -
If you are mid-project, then first I would find your project file and make a duplicate by Control-clicking on it, and selecting Duplicate. You can rename that new file so it is easy to remember. Once that is done, you have a protection back up of your project file so that whatever happens, you can recover back to this point in your project by opening the duplicated file.
Selecting (or Re-Selecting) a Scratch Disk does not affect what has been done in a project's past, it will only affect what FCP will do once it is launched and where it will place media and renders as you go forward.
A bigger concern/interest to me is why the disk Macintosh HD is offline, since Macintosh HD is usually the name of the internal system disk on your computer.
Have you renamed your internal hard disk (either intentionally or unintentionally)?
Do you have external disks connected to your computer?
Have you installed any new software - like Snow Leopard, or Fusion?
If you have had the disk Macintosh HD selected as your scratch disk all throughout your project up to this point, it is likely that the disk Macintosh HD has your captured footage and renders. So . . . if it is off-line as a scratch disk, once you reset your scratch disk to an available drive and open your project, it is likely that the project will show that all your media, which it previously associated with the missing disk is offline as well.
If that is the case, you will need to reconnect your media and re-render your renders. This can be done by selecting your offline clips and Control clicking on one of them and selecting Reconnect Media . . .
*If you are not feeling confident about proceeding, I would recommend a trip to an Apple store to get someone to walk you through the process.*
    Hope this helps.

  • No Disk error Messages in PSE8

On and off I keep getting the following error message when I switch between Edit and Orgainzier in PSE8
and sometime other times.  Photoshop ElementsOrgainzer.exe-No Disk    There is no disk in the
drive.   Please insert a disk into drive \Device\Harddisk4\DR4.
I have to hit Cancel 3-4 times to get rid of it.
What is this and how do I stop it?  Tks. ALan

I have recently experienced this message repeatedly in PSE6 running on Vista. I believe after either saving a file from PSE6 to a floppy in drive A or opening a file in PSE6 from an SD memory card in drive J. Resolved by recreating both situations then ensuring that i used photoshop to open files from and save files to the resident C drive before removing the floppy disk from drive A and using the 'safely remove hardware' function in Vista to confirm that it was safe to remove the SD card.
Following this procedure I have experienced no more 'no disk error messages'

Glad to read that renaming trick helped to get iTunes installed for you. Your thread here is fine for more questions.
Search your hard drive for your music - it should still be there, but perhaps this fresh install of iTunes just isn't seeing it.
    Find music: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1408
You absolutely do NOT want to sync your iPhone with an empty iTunes library. It will erase everything. Apple only gives you one download and you need to make backups. I hope it is still on your PC! But at least you have it on your iPhone.
I don't think you synced your iPhone with your father's iTunes, or his music would be on it. Have a look in a folder named Previous iTunes Libraries. There might be an iTunes database ITL file in there that you can use.
They have names like "iTunes Library 2009-04-06.itl" which would be from April 6th, 2009.
Press and hold the shift key while starting iTunes, and when prompted, choose the most recent previous library. Does it show most of your music, and can you play some songs in iTunes OK?
