Disk Image loses all features but Anime Pop theme

I completed the iMovie, clicked on iDVD, went through the whole process of customizing, then created a Disk Image on my Desktop as last chance to check content before burning. My Mac reported, two hours later, that a successful Disk Image had been created, as "Outriggers.img." and there it was on my desktop.
BUT when I tried to review it on iDVD it showed nothing (no movie) but Anime Pop going round and round with drop zones empty, "Play Movie" and "Scene Selection" had no buttons, just the title word "Outriggers" showed that I had been there at all. I closed it.
I clicked on iMovie to open the project in the usual way.. It would not, "Outriggers" was greyed in both Desktop (where I was storing it) and in Documents.
I was able to open it on my external storage drive, LaCie Firewire, where I kept getting "Modified Asset Warning" about something I must Update. I did update every time the offer came on. What I saw was my movie with no iDVD opening features. After I gave several instructions to "Quit", the proper opening file came on which gave me the choice to Open a New Project, or an Existing Project. I clicked on Existing Project, I got what looks like a normal result, and I should be able to burn to disk.
BUT, remember this is happening through the Firewire drive which is only a storage place, and I have not been able to see a preview through the Disk Image. I shall count my blessings and burn the movie, taking a chance that it really will burn properly (not just the incomplete Anime Pop going round and round). But I do not feel comfortable with this. I believe there is an error somewhere that will continue to bug me in future projects.
Has this happened to anyone else? Up to now, I've been using Final Cut Pro with success, but the new iLife05 is irresistible. I have done two previous projects with no trouble at all.
My three-year extended warranty just came to a close a week ago, so according to Murphy's Law, this problem I have described to you is right on schedule.
Steeler.

BUT when I tried to review it on iDVD it showed nothing (no movie) but Anime Pop going round and round with drop zones empty,
Read the disk image creation and viewing details. DVD Player for viewing, not iDVD.
Suggest you create a disc image and then burn the DVD. File/Save As Disc Image...
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=164927
This will isolate any encoding/burning issues you may encounter. Once the disc image is created, double-click the .img and burn the virtual disc that should appear on your desktop, using Disk Utility to burn the DVD.
Open Disk Utility (in Utilities folder in Applications folder), click on the virtual disc (not the .img, the one below) in the left-hand window. Click the Burn icon. Your SuperDrive tray will open. Insert a recordable DVD. (DVD-R preferred by me.) Click the Close button. Wait. Then click the Burn button.
-->If the virtual disk selection won't allow you to click the Burn icon, use the .img file instead. This may have changed in 10.3.9 and Tiger.
b Also, you can use DVD Player to play the virtual disk to check your iDVD 5 project before burning to DVD. Launch DVD Player. File/Open VIDEO_TS (Open DVD media... in Player 4.6). Find the VIDEO_TS folder and open that. (The audio folder is for DVD-Audio disks.)

Had to buy a new PC as the hard disk of the old one broke and lost all purchases, but still have them on the iPhone. How can I sync them back to the new PC in iTunes without losing them?

    You should be able to:
Backup the device to the new installation
Transfer your purchases into a newly authorized library
Recover any other media using third party tools as suggested in this post from forum regular Zevoneer
Restore the device from the backup
This process should switch the association of the device to the new library, preserving the data and settings in your apps.
May also be prudent to attempt a backup to iCloud directly from the device before you start... Settings > iCloud > Storage & Backup > iCloud Backup > On. It won't save any media but it would preserve the general account settings and documents in case anything goes wrong while you are trying to extract your other data.
When you get it all fixed, make a backup!

  • Time Machine creates new disk image when backing up but files not visible

When I back up my files (daily) to tan external drive TM creates a new disk image (named laptop) on my desktop (in addition to the image for the external drive named TIme Machine Backups). When I click on the new disk image while it's backing up I see a list of recent backups. However the disk image disappears after completing the back up and the files do not appear in the Star Wars screen - only old back-ups from 2009. How can I access the newest backups?

    alanol wrote:

Right-click it, and select +Get Info.+ See what the path is (after +Disk image+ near the top of the General section).
Also the amounts for Capacity and Used.
as a consequence of the repair a sparse bundle (Zero KB) folder was created.
No. That may have been created by the new backup, though.
Also a new "lost +found" folder was created containing several ".emix" files.
    Those are email files.
Net, net - same basic problem, can't see the newest backups in the Star Wars screen.
I suspect they're in the disk image.
Do you have any external HDs connected?
Try a "full reset" of Time Machine, per #A4 of Time Machine - Troubleshooting (or use the link in *User Tips* at the top of this forum).

  • Disk image files error when dragging files from them

any disk image file .DMG that i download and it either has a file to drag to the hard drive or has an application in it. They mount fine and i can lookinside them but when i drag a file out it seems to partially copy them but then comes up and says..
Sorry the operation could not be completed because an unexpected error occured (Error code -41).
If the dmg file has an installer it starts the installed and asks the normal question and permissions and then where to install to then try's to start but just errors again.
Anyone got any ideas. This is on a Mac intel Mini. Everything runs fine and as i said i fixted permissions it is an administrator account.
I have tried 3 disk images firefox opera and ablelive 5.2 they are not damaged or corrupted
    thanks

I was having the same problem on my G4 Powerbook when I tried to install Adium and TextWrangler from disk images. After trying several things that didn't work I decided to see if my IP filter was the culprit. I opened PeerGuardian and disabled the filters. Then, I downloaded Adium again, and it copied easily from the disk image to my applications folder. Then, I tested TextWrangler and it worked as well. I don't know why that worked, and it might not be your problem, but I thought I'd pass on the info. Hope it helps.

  • Source Material error when burning disk image

Well, I've been haunting these forums for 10 days, finding answers to every darn problem under the sun I've encountered! (thanks folks, I've been near hysteria) Now I have yet another problem, and I cannot find an answer in the forums (sorry if it's there.)
I have built my movie in iMovie, imported to iDVD, created my disk image, played my disk image (worked perfectly), connected my brand new LaCie external burner, loaded Toast 6 Lite, dragged my mounted disk image icon into the window, popped in my Verbatim DVD+R and let 'er rip.
And, poo, I'm informed that 4 files are in an unsupported format and cannot be imported. EH? I thought the disk image kept all self-contained? I press onward, and hit burn. Churning, churning... and then this message:
"Could not record disc because there is a problem with the source material. Result code= -18774"
Trying to burn via Disk Utility doesn't work either. My mounted disk shows up, but when highlighted the burn button is grayed out. Only when I click on the .img file is the burn option lit.
Am I supposed to drag the .img file rather than the mounted little disc icon? PLEASE HELP. These movies were SUPPOSED to be Xmas presents... now I'm praying for Michaelmas gifts!
    TIA

ohmygosh. Lightbulb! I've been trying to burn the file_name one and not the file_name.img one. I assumed the point of mounting the file was to burn it, but it's only to preview it, yes?? So, I did that via Disk Utility, and it worked!! Only thing I can't figure is how to set the burn speed. I know slower is better, but can't find the place to tell it the speed. It never asks.
Toast still gives me the source material error. I do have the 'video' tab selected, and I've done the drag-n-drop method AND the 'add' method ('copy' is only for transferring data from one CD/DVD to another in my version, evidently). Toast doesn't allow me to grab the .img file, so I'm assuming IT wants the mounted file_name one? I'd still like to be able to use Toast to burn, so a solution to this would be appreciated. I'm using Toast 6 Lite, BTW.

  • Yosemite showing old icons for Hard Disks and Disk images

    Hey all,
I'm running OS X Yosemite, all fully up to date, based on an upgrade install from Mavericks. Everything's basically fine, with the exception that any sort of disk icon (Internal, USB, Disk Images etc) all still use the old Mavericks style icons.
Not a major issue but kind of irritating me at the minute, I could go through and manually change them but I still get the old ones appear when a new disk connects.
This behaviour is exclusive to my user account as when I set up a second user to investigate all icons were the new 'flat' style.
Has anyone come across this, and if so did you find a resolution?

Mine look the same.  Were they suppose to change?

  • Unable to create an encrypted disk image with Disk Utility

    Hi:
With our upgrade to Lion a few weeks ago, we're now unable to create an encrypted disk image of any type using Disk Utility any more. This problem occurs on 3 different machines, and is reproducible whether one is using an internal HD or an external FW HD. We can successfully create nonencrypted disk images.
This is a duplicate post with all the details here: https://discussions.apple.com/message/18469359#18469359
We haven't had any luck with a solution trying various permissions fixes as helpfully suggested by other readers in response to the error message # (-60008 error), so I'm hoping that someone else has run across a solution from the encrypted disk image perspective and that this tag line will generate some help.
    Thank you!

  • Disk Utility, disk image help

I want to burn a disk image onto a disc using disk utility, however i dont know how to and my blank disk is smaller than the disk image size. SO i need to compress it. Can anyone tell me what to do and how i can burn a disc image onto a disc which is too small?

Not all disk images are compressed, but you can't make a compressed disc (not with standard software).  You can store a compressed disk image on a disc, but it won't behave like a normal disc (e.g., you'd need to mount the disc, then mount the disk image stored on it separately).  If you want to create a normal, mountable disc, you either need to get a physical disc of the appropriate size and burn the uncompressed image onto it (Disk Utility has a Burn item in one of its menus), or you'll need to reduce the size of the uncompressed disk image to fit the size of the disc you have.

  • Creating a disk image from an audio-disc???

Hello guys, I need to move residence and want to minimize the volume and weight I'll need to carry.
I wanted to create disk images of all my audio discs but apparently that's not possible (at least with disk utility, trying to use the same process used with software/movies discs). Is there any way to achieve this? Or, is there any other good way to store the songs in case I needed them later?
What I'd like to do is have them stored in my external hard drive in an uncompressed, unconverted format ready to burn them back, without any loss, to a cd playable with the basic cd players in case I needed them. Or to re-import them into a iTunes. And stuff like that.

I use Toast Titanium to do this. http://www.roxio.com/enu/products/toast/titanium/overview.html

  • I just created a disk image of my Snow Leopard

I am hoping to install Lion on a disk image of my Mac Pro.  This disk image is currently on my desktop. The image seems to function well, and I'm now whittling down it's size.  I haven't yet created a partition on my Mac Pro, in part because I'm hopeful that the disk image is all I'll need.
My goal is to install Lion onto the disk image ONLY, because I do not want to use it except in relation to my new iPad 2.  (And I need to install Lion if I want to keep my dot mac email address after June 2011.)
Does anyone know of any reason why this planned upgrade to Lion will not work--I'm hoping that when I start the download of Lion, that I'll be asked "where do I want it installed? and that I'll be able to opt for ONLY the disk image.
Thanks for any input (especially that which is not too technical for non-techy me.)

    Alinde Omalley wrote:
Thanks, Pondini.  Your answer is probably correct, but it is a bit over my head.  I found, today, that Lion said it was  installed on my external hard drive; but I see no evidence of it being there. (I had installed Lion  to an external hard drive, to which I'd already downloaded a bootable copy of my Mac Pro Snow Leopard.)
So it should have updated the Snow Leopard installation?
Does it appear as a possible startup drive in System Prefs > Startup Disk?
I might add--all my macs met the requirements for an upgrade.  They were upgraded to the latest Snow Leopard; had enough disk space, memory, and such.
Then as long as they're all Core 2 Duos, the drive should start them.
I'm not sure what you find confusing -- let me try it this way:
When you install OSX on an external HD, that will be a complete installation -- at least one user account, all the default Apple applications, etc., as if it's a separate computer.
When you connect it to another Mac and start up from it, you'll be running that separate installation, not the installation of OSX that's on the Mac.  You'll log on with the user account that's on the external, regardless of what's on the internal.
You can access the data on the Mac's internal HD (if the user on the external has permission to it), but only by selecting the HD, as if it's an external.

  • Can't play Disk Image in DVD Player

I saved my iDVD project to disk image so I could view the video on my Mac Pro prior to burning the project.
When I double click the saved disk image icon, the archived file that I made earlier populates on the screen instead of the DVD player opening. That's strange?
I see an Audio_TS file, Video_TS file, and a DVD-ROM contents files instead of the DVD player. Why isn't the DVD player playing the disk image that I saved?
I also tried the process in reverse. Trying to open the saved disk image from the DVD Player and the saved disk image is all greyed out not allowing access to view the video.
Thanks in advance for any assistance.

  • IDVD 6, no audio on disk image or burned DVD

Seems I've just been plagued with this problem as well, and the first time I noticed it was after accepting an upgrade from iDVD 6.02 to iDVD 6.04 as well as a firmware update.
Audio from imported .avi files plays fine in the iDVD preview and even played perfectly on disk images and burned DVDs, but now there is only audio in the video I dropped into a background drop zone, and no audio in the two movies. During a second burn, still no audio in the movies but audio for the first 5 seconds of the loop of the background movie. I should mention, prior to updating, these .avi files were burned perfectly. So this is very erratic.
I used appzapper to remove iDVD 6.04 and reinstalled 6.02, but the problem persists. I'm wondering *if any others have experienced the same issue after some form of "upgrade"*. If there was only some way to revert back to the old firmware I would. A few other updates took place as well, but I can't remember exactly what was done.
Quite ridiculous for updates which are supposed so solve issues, just create them.
Any new fixes for this apparently popular problem? Is there a way to revert back to my old firmware?

  • Disk Images in Disk Utility Don't Work

I think that either I have a misunderstanding of .dmg files or Disk Utility isn't working. I see a .dmg as an exact clone of a particular file or folder that when opened mounts a volume on a user's desktop with contains the files.
However, if I use DU and I selected new disk image and I want to make a disk image of all my desktop images I'm not able to.
I click new image and it asks me what to call the .dmg file, is asks me where to save it, what size it should be, etc. But, it never asks me which file or folder I want to make the disk image of. This is weird. (maybe it is because I don't understand the concept of a disk image) All is does is make the .dmg file and mount the volume with nothing inside.
If I were to copy all the desktop pictures into the volume, eject it, and then remount it they are all there. This works, but I must be missing some hidden files. I thought the idea of a disk image was to select the folder or file from which to create the .dmg file and let DU create it so that NO hidden images were missing. Thanks for the help.

    You almost have it.
To make an image of a mounted volume, run disk utility and select the volume from the list on the left. Click on the 'New Image' icon and then give it a name in the save dialog.
    Hope that helps ya.
I know how to make a disk image of a mounted volume (a CD or DVD) by doing the above mentioned. What I want to do is make a disk image of a folder on my HD. This is were I get into a conflict in which it asks me where to save to .dmg file, and how big it is, but never asks me from which the .dmg is to be created from.

  • Installing OS from a disk image

    Hi,
I have quite a few systems that I need to rebuild. I've burned disk images of all the apps we need, onto a FW800 drive which has really sped things up. One thing I can't figure out though, is how to install the OS from a disk image. Each of these systems are getting a fresh hard drive with no OS installed. Booting off the install DVD works fine with fresh drives, but how does one boot into a FW800 drive with a disk image of the install DVD?
I thought cmd-opt-shift-delete was the key stroke for this, but it doesn't work for these systems, can anyone help out?
These systems are a combination of Leopard and Snow Leopard and are all Mac Pro's from the 2006-2007 to the early 2009 models.
    Thanks
    Stuart

Cool, thanks, I was kind of thinking along those lines, but couldn't quite put my finger on it/figure it out, that makes sense, appreciate it.
    Thanks again for quick reply,
