Try System Preferences > Energy Saver.
If 'System Preferences' is not in your Dock you should find it in /Applications.

  • Yoga display turns off after 1 minute

I'm having an annoying problem with my new Yoga related to the display and have not seen any other posts with a similar complaint so perhaps this is a simple fix that I'm just not able to sort out on my own. My display turns off after 1 minute of inactivity. The only means for changing behavior like this that I am aware of is through the Control Panel Power Options. My settings for "turn off the display" are 10 minutes on battery and Never while plugged in (note screen shot attached). Regardless of my settings, the screen turns off after 1 minute. I've changed the settings to multiple configurations and restarted with no change in behavior. Perhaps there's some other settings area, maybe something specific to Lenovo that I'm not aware of (since this is my first Lenovo laptop). Anyone with similar problems or insight?

This may be a Windows 8 issue. I finally fixed this problem by identifying the screen saver as the issue (and I wasn't using a screen saver). Type "lock the computer" into the search box after clicking the search charm, which brings up the screen saver dialog box. Mine was set to 1 minute, though I'd never set it myself. If you can't change it, choose a screen saver and you should be able to do so (and can then switch back to no screen saver). BUT, here's the problem. Other things you install (or settings within things you install) can apparently change and override whatever you type in for the delay time. Try applying your new time and exiting from the dialog box, then open it back up again. I was finding that it kept going back to 1 minute. To reset things so that you can get control again, type "user accounts" into the search box and when the dialog box comes up, choose "Reset Security Policies". Then you can go back to the screen saver dialog and successfully change the delay time. • Display keeps dimming after 30 seconds, randomly!

After 30 seconds or so, the brightness will dim. I know this can be turned off (at least I think), but I can't figure out what is causing it. It also seems to be random, but that may just be my imagination.
How can I keep my display from dimming after 30 seconds? Thanks.

You might try to reset the SMC and/or PRAM.

Sounds like you have either cache, finder, or disk corruption problems. Follow the steps here:

  • Screen dims after a minute or so

How do you set the time it takes the screen to dim after not touching the notebook for a minute or so?

I was wondering the same exact thing. In the Energy Saver area, I have "Put the computer to sleep when it is inactive for:" set to Never, "Put the display to sleep when the computer is inactive for:" set to 1.5 hours, and "Automatically reduce the brightness of the display before display sleep" unchecked. I also have "Automatically adjust brightness as ambient light changes" unchecked in the Display settings.
Even with all these settings, the screen goes dim after about 1 minute of inactivity. Can't seem to figure out what would cause it.

  • Satellite P850 display turns off after only minute or two of inactivity

    Hi,
I have my Display settings set to turn off display after 1 hour when on power and 10 minutes when on battery.
I have a screen saver set up to go on after 10 minutes.
However, my display often (but not always) turns itself off after only a minute or two of inactivity.
Can anyone explain this weird behavior?
It starts up immediately I move the mouse but I just don't like things happening that I haven't scheduled.
    Thanks.

    Hi
Could it be possible that you changed the settings in the power profile which is not in use?
I mean in case another application like ECO Utility would control the display brightness, the changes in Windows power plant would be useless.
Toshiba ECO Utility for example contains some settings like dim display after
I think you should check this utility

  • Automatic shutdown after 1 minute

My macbook displays the turn on/off window(restart, sleep, cancel, shut down) after 1 minute and that only happens if I havn't typed anything or touched the touchpad. If I don't click the cancel button or move the pointer around the computer shuts down after the turn on/off window have been displayed for 5 s. By doing this the "clock" restarts and I got another minute of the same procedure. I've reset the PRAM and the PMU and it didn't help. Any suggestions??

I have the same problem. Also, when I close the display, instead of sleep, computer shuts down. I hope somebody can help us. Computer works great other than that. Larry

  • Cannot prevent display from dimming after period of inactivity

once again, another weird unexplainable problem that has been discussed on here but never quite solved. this has nothing to do with the ambient light sensor or the "pass your hand over the speaker grill" situation.
the problem is that my screen dims after about 2 minutes of inactivity. I've got the "reduce screen brightness before sleep" UNchecked, and the "adjust brightness as ambient light changes" is also UNchecked. I've made these settings for both the power adapter and the battery. I don't see any reason why the screen should dim unless I've checked the option to make it do so.
    any ideas?

    I found this:
    http://www.technodaddy.com/wp/2005/07/24/mac-tip-how-to-stop-tiger-from-half-dim ming-your-screen/
which I tried, and it worked. however, when I listed the current state (according to the directions) it was already at 0 (zero) but I did the command as directed and it doesn't dim any more.
    cheers!

  • Display light dims after about 30 sec

No matter what I try, working with battery power or not, using the auto-brightness function or not, after about 30 sec my screen dims when I'm not touching any keys and/ or don't move the mouse....extremely annoying while reading a long article or watching pictures !!!!
is there anyway to disable this terrible automatic function?
It has nothing to do with auto-brightness, I turned that off in the system preferences option, but it hasn't changed anything.
My screensaver is set to start after 10 min, so that has nothing to do with it either.....
    Thks for feedback

I go into my Energy Saver preferences under "Options" and check "Automatically reduce the brightness of the display before display sleep." Then I uncheck it right away and it's fine until I reboot. Them I have to do it again.

  • My ipod touch won't dim after one minute

I have an ipod touch 3rd gen and the other day I was changing some settings which changed a setting regarding the back light. I have it set to auto lock at one minute but as I have the music playing the ipod won't dim or lock itself unless I physically lock it.

    Follow the instructions here: http://www.apple.com/support/ipodtouch/assistant/ipodtouch/
It will probably result in having to restore the iPod. Here are those instructions, with emphasis on some easily overlooked requirements:
Disconnect the USB cable from the Pod touch, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.If you cannot turn off the device using the slider, press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. When the device turns off, release only the Sleep/Wake button.
Continue pressing and holding the Home button while you reconnect the USB cable to the device. The device should turn on.Note: If you see the "low battery" screen, let the device charge for at least ten minutes to ensure that the battery has some charge, and then start with step 2 again.
Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen. When this screen appears (iTunes icon and USB connector) release the Home button.
If necessary, open iTunes. You should see the "recovery mode" alert ("iTunes has detected a phone in recovery mode").
Use iTunes to restore the device.
If you do not see the "Connect to iTunes" screen, try these steps again. If you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen but the device does not appear in iTunes, see this article and its related links.
Select the iPod in iTunes and choose "restore from backup".

  • Screen goes very dim after 3-minutes using Leopard

Has anyone had the same experience? I have tried all energy saving settings without success!! Its similar to the screen dimming that MBP users experience with Tiger (I could get around this by unplugging the power supply, and plugging it back in again) only with Leopard the screen goes very dark, almost to the extent that you can't see anything on the screen, and there appears to be no workaround. It takes hold without fail every time the notebook is left to sit untouched for spot on 3-minutes.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

If it's a consistent 3 minutes to lights out I'd suspect the Energy Saver setting has got 'stuck' somehow, it might be worth trying a Parameter RAM reset - hold down apple/option/p/r keys at start up and wait for three chimes before releasing.

  • Windows 8 automatically locks after 1 minute of inactivity

I read on here that the solution to this issue is to reset the security options under User Accounts.  I don't seem to have that capability.  Is there another fix for this?  Or a way I can add that option under User Accounts?  I set a
bunch of other settings to a high number and that seemed to fix the issue for a day.  Then today the issue came back in full effect even though none of my settings had changed.  This is extremely frustrating.  Thanks for any help you can provide.
UPDATE: I just wanted to post that after I did the Windows 8.1 Update, this issue went away finally.  Thank god.

Thank you for the quick reply but as I stated in my original post, I don't have a reset security options under my user accounts.  And I haven't found anything that explains why some people have this option and others don't.
Your second solution also doesn't work.  There currently isn't a password required for wake up already.  The problem is the lock itself.  I have programs that are running in the background that get put to sleep every time the computer locks.
Thanks for trying.  Any other suggestions?

  • Monitor dimming after less than a minute really starting to annoy me...

    Hey!
This is my first post on here... and I'm posting because I've just started getting really fed up with how the display slightly dims after a minute or less of me not typing or moving the cursor... If I need a page open to read, I have to constantly touch the trackpad in order for the light to come on again so I can see what I'm reading...
I have looked ALL OVER the settings, and the only thing I can find to change is how long it takes for the computer to go into sleep mode... and there's is another thing where you can check it to have the display fade before going to sleep.... but even if I uncheck this, then instead of the display fading, it goes completely black after a minute or less...
I just want to adjust the amount of time it takes for the display to dim... Please! Is anyone else annoyed with this? I can't even watch a youtube video without being interrupted about 4 times by the screen fading...
Thank you to anyone that can help me!
