Display Hardware specs for After Effects

Hi,
For Mac Os the hardware specs are (and I'm not mentioning all the specs.... just a couple)
5GB of available hard-disk space for installation; additional free space required during installation (cannot install on a volume that uses a case-sensitive file system or on removable flash storage devices)
Additional disk space for disk cache (10GB recommended)
14400x900 display
OpenGL 2.0–capable system
I'm I crazy or should the display need minimal 1440x900? I mean ...14400 is a little bit to much isn't it?
Thnx for your time and attention.

Hi Temi1
Please share the link on which you have notice this
As i have checked system requirement page
and it is showing the minimum requirement for display is 1440X900

  • Does this PC have good specs for after effects?

I am debating wether to buy the new Apple Mac pro 6 core cpu or PC that is built that has these specs:
    4th Generation Intel® Core™ i7-4770K 3.5GHz processor
    16GB DDR3 1600MHz memory
    1TB 7200 RPM SATA-III hard drive
    120GB SATA-III solid state drive
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780 3GB dedicated graphics card
    12X Blu-ray combo drive
    10/100/1000 Mbps Ethernet
    NZXT Phantom 410 gaming case
    2 USB 3.0 (front), 4 USB 3.0 (rear), 4 USB 2.0
    Front panel 12-in-1 card reader
120mm closed loop liquid cooling system
I am limited to these 2 options only.
I will be using the computer mainly for video editing and some 3d work(mainly title sequences using some 3d text and). Also i will be using AFter effects for special effects such as explosions and what not.
Im really confused and a newbie when it comes to specs needed on your comp to run after effects properly. Given the 2 options, New Apple mac pro or the PC with the specs listed above. What would be my best option? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I would suggest the X79 platform with the 4930K 6 Core CPU or better. If you get the Asrock Extreme 9 boards then the E5 V2 Xeons up to the 12 Core Xeons are available just like the nMPro. That becomes a major upgrade option later if your workflow changes. The workstation system would also push a 780GTX or 780TI card far better. I would suggest the 780Ti btw over the 780GTX. I would definitely suggest the PC over the nMPro for Adobe especially AE at this point unless you just require OSX.

  • The ideal hardware setup / arrangement for After Effects?

    Hello there,
Looking to buy some new hardware and am hoping to find some advice on the ideal hardware config for making After Effects scream. I find this questions is sorely lacking answers on the Internet beyond the basics of 'boot from an SSD' and the like... So I am hoping someone can answer these questions once and for all.
    Two things I am after:
    1. Fast working performance in AE. So when I move a layer about I am able to see it move smoothly in real-time as I drag it about with my mouse. Right now I get either stuttered movement when moving larger layers about, or the image begins to pixelate/drop res to such a horrible extent that I can not see what I am doing. The problem extends to when I am working with a large project file, with many layers, I get nasty lag when attempting to move about in the timeline, opening comps, etc. Everything starts to move quite slowly once I go past a certain number of layers. What upgrades will speed this element, the day to day working rather than rendering, up the most?
    2. Faster rendering. Though this is not as key as point number 1.
I am guessing this performance will he helped by a beefier graphics card and more/faster RAM? I currently have a GTX 660ti 2GB and am upgrading to a GTX980 4GB, so hoping that will improve this.
I also have 64 GB of 1600 speed ram that AE happily consumes so think that base is covered. My CPU is a 3930k that is slightly overclocked. It gets maxed out when multicore rendering is happening but not otherwise. I've heard turning hyperthreading off in the BIOS can actually help AE performance?
I am booting/running AE from an SSD (Samsung 840 Pro), and have set my media cache to another dedicated SSD (Samsung 840 Pro). I run/keep my project files on yet another SSD and have other drives holing media.
My drive config plan is this:
    - Boot from one 240GB SSD.
    - Project files and current working media on 2x 1TB SSDs in RAID 0 (backed up)
    - Further media storage on 2x 3TB HDDs in RAID 0 (backed up)
Now I am wondering if I can simply use the 2TB of SSD goodness as both the location for my AE media cache AND my project files/working media? Or am I better off having three fast and seperate storage locations? 1 for the boot, 2 for the project files and media, 3 for the cache?
Otherwise I am running AE on a Hackintosh 3930k CPU overclocked slightly, 64 GB RAM, Sabertooth X79 mobo, 660ti graphics card.
All comments/advice links much appreciated. Apologies if this has already been addressed elsewhere but I have yet to find a detailed response and only generalized comments such as 'use a fast drive for your media cache.'
What I would really like to know is the BEST drive configuration, the questioned detailed above...And what will increase the speed and quality of my real-time workflow in AE the most. Quickly navigating projects without lag, opening detailed comps with many layers, and moving large images around without lag or pixelation.
    Thank you!

for After Effects advice, Eric on the forum here can give you the best info. However, I have seen him say many times that AE is MEMORY INTENSIVE,....the more, the better. You HAVE 64GB...that seems very adequate for most workflows.
The OTHER thing he says is that other than Ray-Tracing, the GPU is HARDLY used at all.....CPU speed and number of cores are a BIG factor in AE performance.....your 3930k overclocked should be adequate....the MORE OC, the BETTER.
Next is the drive system....you have NOT described EXACTLY what you are doing NOW....you mentioned what your PLAN is,but for , right NOW you said : " I run/keep my project files on yet another SSD and have other drives holing media.  "
HERE is where you MAY be doing something that may....or may NOT.....be causing slowdowns.   With AE it is RECOMMENDED to use a dedicated drive  for the "Global Performance Cache"...the HIGHER the speed of this drive, the BETTER, as AE STORES already "rendered" frames, ( for "previews", of course), on it so it DOESN"T have to RE-RENDER ALL the frames all over again every time you make a change to your work !!! So, in YOUR case : your OS drive is great...Samsung Pro models are the BEST...you have the 840 Pro ,which is only SLIGHTLY behind the 850 Pro in performance. ANOTHER 840,or, 850 Pro would be GREAT as the " Global performance cache drive" AND would also be the place to put ALL previews,Cache files, media cache files for Premier Pro,too. The overall speed and less latency of the SATAIII SSD will surpass the performance of a 2 disk  RAID 0....even a 3 disk RAID 0.
Next....the speed at which you SERVE UP the video files can be important in preventing a slowdown.....ESPECIALLY if using large, uncompressed files. Here, you have options.....it is NOT necessary to put your project files on a SEPARATE drive from your media...you just want to make sure that the drive with your media and project files is as fast as the OTHERS in your system ! SO, you COULD use a THIRD SSD as a "working drive" for ACTIVE projects only.....a 1TB SSD perhaps...Crucial M550 is CHEAPER than the Samsung and as good as the 840 pros. As the CAPACITY of SSDs are small...you would MOVE all media and completed project files to HDDs for archiving and storage....the use of RAID with your existing HDDs would NOT be needed for this function.
Another option would be to take FOUR quality 1TB HDDs...( the Seagates are selling for $44 right now), and create a RAID 0 off the motherboard to have a large 4TB capacity AND speed similar to the SSDs!   WARNING !!! the odds of ONE drive failing are BIG....you would immediately lose ALL your data !! HOWEVER....if you back up that RAID 0 RELIGIOUSLY....you would have NO worries. One way to do THAT is to buy a 4TB ENTERPRISE level 7200rpm HDD....Seagate has one with a 128 MB cache that does over 200MB/sec. for just over $300.
Even with all this covered, there are MANY factors which can CHOKE a fast computer....the CODECS you are using have a HUGE bearing on performance. The VERSION of After Effects is important...NEWEST versions have the BEST performance with features like the "global performance cache", etc. The use of "third party plug-ins" can CRIPPLE a machine if these are NOT written to take advantage of "hyperthreading",OR, are "32 bit" and HUMBLE your machine because AE is NOW 64 bit!!
Make sure you have Windows fully updated and the newest drivers for your video card. Then , make sure your Windows POWER SETTINGS are set to MAXIMUM PERFORMANCE when"plugged in"....the DEFAULT Windows settings...even under "high performance" has setttings that will THROTTLE your GPU and CPU if you don't change them.....I found THAT out the hard way!
Finally, make sure , in AE settings, you have set the"memory allocation" correctly...there is a formula regarding how much to assign on a "per CPU core basis". There ALSO is a selection to make for "allowing multiple frames" to be processed...make sure THAT is set correctly.
Good luck !!     I hope this helps!

  • Writing plug-in for After Effects

I wish to write a character generator kind of a plug-in for After Effects.
We have written similar plug-in for premiere which used to be created using the Import option in Adobe Premiere Pro.We managed to import our format and that was put on timeline, and then supplied content using our engine, when imImportImage callback was called.
In PremeirPro there was only one entry point.
What I got from reading the After effects SDK help was that there shall one entry point if we wish to write an effect. But we dont wish to write an effect but an importer.
Will it be a AEGP plug-in?
How should we go about it? Can we have a sample plug-in of such type, wherein a custom file format is implemented?
    regards
    Jasleen Kaur

there are two sample projects in the sdk that would be of interest to you.
    1. IO (deals with importing and exporting of custom file types)
    2. FBIO (the same as the above, but deals with frame sequences and not with movies)
there is one thing you should consider when doing this as an import plug-in:
as opposed to premier, that seeks the original file every time to display it, AE caches frames.
so even if you change the source, AE will not necessarily show that, until the "footage" is re loaded or AE starts recycling ram.
you can change the preferences of AE so that it doesn't cache anything, but then you seriously impair AE's performance.

  • How to Optimize a New iMac for After Effects

I bought the most tricked out brand new iMac available, with 32GB ram, an updated graphics card, everything.
But, exporting my project from After Effects takes the same amount of time on my new iMac as it did on my 2011 macbook - about 6 hours.
I know how to manipulate my export settings, so maybe I just need to change my computer's system settings to work better with After Effects.
Mac had no advice and pointed me to Adobe, so here I am.
    Any advice?

  • Good hardware to run After Effects and Logic Pro?

    Hello Anyone Who Will Listen!
I am currently using a 15" MacBook Pro running on OS X 10.7.5 (Lion)
--Processor 2.4 GHz Intel Core i7
    --750 GB HardDrive
    --4 GB RAM (1333 MHz DDR3)
--AMD Radeon HD 6770M 1024 MB Graphics
--I also use a WD "My Passprt Studio" 1TB External Hardive. (I store all my Logic Pro, After Effects, Photoshop and Illustrator projects on there instead of on the Main MacBook HD which only has 750GB of Memory)
I am a musician and an audio engineer of sorts.  I have been producing music on my MacBook Pro using Logic Pro, amongst some other third party Plug-ins that are each just as big as Logic Pro. And for the past year I've been hittin it pretty aggressively as I produced my entire album with my MacBook Pro being the only computer involved in the process.  As you probably know that is a hefty workload to put on a computer between recording tracks, mixing and mastering...I'm honestly surprised my MacBook Pro made it through the whole process with only 4GB of RAM. Although it did give me some "System Overload" messages along the way which got to be very annoying interrupting my workflow.  And while I was using Logic Pro I could never have another application open at the same time. Even something like Safari could not be opened while I was using Logic Pro.
Now to top it all off I am using other Applications to market my music such as Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop and Adobe After Effects. I'm using version CS6 for Photoshop and Illustrator and using the new Creative Cloud version for After Effects.
Now that I've explained what I use my computer for I can explain the actual problem haha...Inside Logic Pro there were two indicators, one labeled HD and the other labeled CPU, if one or the other reached its limit the system would overload cause lagging or just a shut down/freeze.  And while working in Adobe After Effects the "RAM Preview" almost never plays back in realtime if I get more than a minute into a song that a am making a Kinetic Typography Video for.
So I need a new Computer or external HD or Increased RAM that will make these things no longer happen...I am open to any suggestions or ideas.

This Trashcan is an option, but carries the usual disadvantages of all Apple products:
    Huge price
    Mediocre specs
    Only single CPU
    Slow video cards
    Only Thunderbolt 1 connection
    Limited expansion capabilities.
A PC would offer much better price / performance, but Logic Pro is the limiting factor.

  • "Mocha for After Effects" included when you install Dreamweaver CS5

During installation of Adobe Master Collection CS5, I deselected everything except for Dreamweaver. After finishing, I had shortcuts for the following:
    Adobe Device Central CS5
    Adobe Dreamweaver CS5
    Mocha for After Effects CS5
    Adobe Help
(I believe Air is installed as well, but it appears to be required for Adobe Help?)
How did Mocha for After Effects and Adobe Device Central get installed?

Device Central and Mocha for After Effects are not main applications (those which are displayed on left side of Options dialog), rather they are termed as Shared Technologies which are used by multiple applications. Adobe Help is anyway installed even when a single application is installed, Device Central is installed as Dreamweaver has dependency on it. Mocha for After Effects should not be installed if Aftre Effects is deselcted, but it gets installed because of one deferred bug in CS5, you can see some unusable folders of Premiere Pro, Encore etc also even when they are not selected.

  • I5-3210M for After Effects?

Will the i5-3210M 2.5GHz processor be able to run After Effects smothly? I mean editing some HD or FullHD videos (recorded with Galaxy Nexus) with VFXs like smoke, fire, rain, wind and so on? I know the best processor for AE is an i7 but the computer that really goes with me (all components and design) has an i5-3210M and I want to know if it will be able to run AE. Thank you

    > Your effects are going to be coming via your vid card. Your Processor does help them but not all, only if you lack a video card.
    That is completely false.
The GPU does nothing to accelerate the processing of effects. The CPU processes all effects.
The CPU is much, much more important than the GPU for After Effects.
This page describes everything that the GPU does in After Effects, and it is not very much:
    http://blogs.adobe.com/aftereffects/2012/05/gpu-cuda-opengl-features-in-after-effects-cs6. html
To answer the original poster's question:
Yes, you can use an i5 processor. People have made very compelling work with less powerful processors. Just know that the tradeoff is performance, and you may need to either learn to be patient during longer renders or be clever about how you plan your work and optimize for performance.

  • Text document for After Effect Cs4

I never open the After Effects CS4 but it is amazing....
For the beginning, want to try  Animatin Text but couldn't created the Text document.
when  i created the Text from Photoshop and import to After Effects then it will show " transform" not " Text".
How can i create the Text document for After Effects....????
thanks for reading and little help Please

I do quite a bit of Text Animation in both AE and Premiere Pro, and just create my images in PS. In my case, I am working with SD (Standard Def) DVD Projects in NTSC-land, so I will use the New Image, and then choose the NTSC 720 x 480 Preset, choosing either the Standard 4:3, or Widescreen 16:9 w/ Guides, and then add my various Text Layers, per normal. The layout of my Text Layers will depend on what and how I want to animate my image. Then, I do a Save_As PSD, to be Imported into AE or PrPro. For animations I want the Layers, so I will choose Import_as_a_Sequence in PrPro, so that each Layer is a separate Clip.
In your case, the New Image Preset might differ, depending on exactly what your Frame Size is, in AE. Plan that out first, so that you match the AE Comp's specs. with your new Image.
If you are gong to TV, you might want to use the Title Safe and Action Safe Guides in that New Image, as they will help keep your Text within any overscan area for CRT TV's (and still some HD TV's).
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Media Encoder CC not using GPU acceleration for After Effects CC raytrace comp

I created a simple scene in After Effects that's using the raytracer engine... I also have GPU enabled in the raytracer settings for After Effects.
When I render the scene in After Effects using the built-in Render Queue, it only takes 10 minutes to render the scene.
But when I export the scene to Adobe Media Encoder, it indicates it will take 13 hours to render the same scene.
So clearly After Effects is using GPU accelleration but for some reason Media Encoder is not.
I should also point out that my GeForce GTX 660 Ti card isn't officially supported and I had to manually add it into the list of supported cards in:
    C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe After Effects CC\Support Files\raytracer_supported_cards.txt
    C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Media Encoder CC\cuda_supported_cards.txt
While it's not officially supported, it's weird that After Effects has no problem with it yet Adobe Media Encoder does...
I also updated After Effects to 12.1 and AME to 7.1 as well as set AME settings to use CUDA but it didn't make a difference.
    Any ideas?

    That is normal behavior.
The "headless" version of After Effects that is called to render frames for Adobe Media Encoder (or for Premiere Pro) using Dynamic Link does not use the GPU for acceleration of the ray-traced 3D renderer.
If you are rendering heavy compositions that require GPU processing and/or the Render Multiple Frames Simultaneously multiprocessing, then the recommended workflow is to render and export a losslessly encoded master file from After Effects and have Adobe Media Encoder pick that up from a watch folder to encode into your various delivery formats.

  • Cycore FX plug-ins for After Effects 7

I'm having some issues finding the Cycore FX plug-ins for After Effects 7 (I know, it's old   )
Using Windows 7 x64. The original discs were installed on an older OS, and have since been lost. AE 7 has been downloaded from the Adobe web site, but there are no additional resources/folders with the plug-ins to be found...any ideas???

It's strange that Adobe don't have the Cycore plug-ins available at the point of download. (It would make things so civilized.)
Thanks for the tip :-), I wonder if placing the plug-ins for CS3 in the appropriate folder for AE 7 might work??? Where did you find them???

The Mac Pro's are pretty killer for AE. On a Winbox, you simply get the
best processor(s) you can afford, max out the memory, get a good board
like ASUS or a Tyan if your really into finnicky thoroughbreds. The Vid
card will have little to do with AE, so research that on its own merits.
