Display is adding pixels to fonts and jumping around

My 3.5 year old 2005 Powerbook 167 is now adding pixels to fonts randomly..
It adds them both vertically and horizontally. It does it near the mouse sometimes.. sometimes the whole screen shifts by a few pixels.
It does it also to the secondary monitor..
It seems to be stable but is very annoying..
Is the video card going bad? Do I need to replace the motherboard in order to fix this?
Anyone else have this problem?

I ran tried to reboot and run the hardware but it crashed when I tried to boot from that CD.
I ran techtook and it found nothing wrong.
It does it all the time. Not too bad.. just a few pixels moving around..
When running any flash the cpu is just pegged.. I might have fried it running an app..
Ebay has a new logic board on auction for $175 the regular price from apple is $550..
It is a bit of work to replace the logic board but I have done similar jobs on my last titanium PB, and it worked. about 50 screws.. and 20 parts to remove and reassemble.

Ipod restarts and jumps around in songs

When playing back songs both of the new (4th generation) I got for my kids for Christmas restart and jump around in the songs. The song will start playing and a random point it restarts then after playing a few seconds it might restart again or jump to another point in the song. It happens on any song played. We are using iTunes 10.5 and the i pods are up to date, the songs played (and still play correctly on their iPod Nanos, 5th generation) Resetting them doesn't make any difference! Any advice or help would be appreciated!

Pixel-wide distorted lines jumping around

I admit that topic sounds confusing - but then, so is my problem:
A few weeks ago I noticed some distorted lines on my MBP screen (first generation 15"). The appearance is as if two adjacent rows of pixels "bleed", they seem to be identical, smearing whatever is on the screen in that position out across this pixel-wide band (there are several such bands or lines, both vertical and horisontal).
The really weird thing is, they come and go - they're mostly there and mostly in the same places (two vertical ones and three horizontal) but occasionally they disappear, then reappear, and, stranger yet, they shift about when I move the cursor to the lower right corner of the screen (at which point the entire screen seems to shift or jump slightly - one pixel? - up and to the left).
The lower right corner is inactive, the only thing that happens when the cursor is there is that the dock pops up - but the lines don't react to the dock appearing when I put the cursor anywhere else along the bottom of the screen, only the right lower corner.
I didn't do anything (that I'm aware of) when it first occured - no installs or re-installs, no updates, nothing like that. I haven't dropped it, stepped on it or had it run any hotter than usual, in short, no particular event or behavior caused this problem to start...

I'm having the same issue. It just started this afternoon. Do you have Parallels? I was using Parallels with Windows Vista Business when it first started. I don't know if that has anything to do with it or not, but Windows was doing some weird things with screen resolution, jumping between a couple different settings by itself, just before this weirdness started. At first I thought it was Windows but then when I switched back to the Mac I noticed it was doing it there too.
I've rebooted, and changed the screen resolution, but nothing has helped. The text looks kind of blurry unless I mouse over it and then it either gets sharper or way too sharp as if it's been through a heavy sharpening filter. Anywhere I move the mouse there's sort of a pixel-shift where the pixels look as though they're being smeared around by one pixel. Also, If I move the mouse quickly left and right the whole screen goes back and forth about a pixel.
There are two other interesting things about this situation:
1. I'm using a dual screen setup with my 15" MacBook Pro and a 23" Cinema Screen. It does it on both of them, and continues if I unplug the CS and only use the MBP screen.
2. If I log in as another user, *it doesn't do it anymore* - only under my main user account does it happen, which also leads me to believe that it might have to do with Parallels. At least it would appear to be software related instead of hardware related.
Was there anything you can think of that you did to make it stop? This is really annoying!

Trackpad draging and jumping around the screen

trackpad works for a while but then the trackpad begins to drag (when I move my finger around the trackpad, the curser either doesent move at all or moves very slowly) and the curser begins to jump around the screen when the trackpad and computer isent being touched. I tried to connect a wireless mouse and it too bagan with the same problems. if anyone has any ideas of how to fix it, im all ears.

Yes i've gotten this twice.
Once from not quite legitmate software.
Once from a sketch NSFK site.
Both times, it was easily resolved for me by shutting down.
Follow the procedure to reset SMC controller ( make sure you do this properly ) Guides are available on Apple's support page.
Immediatly after the SMC reset before any other reboot reset the PRAM several times.
then reboot as normal.
...I'm not sure what exactly is going on.. I think some setting is getting adjusted and set EFI that's why normal reboots, safe mode, nothing else solves it. One of the more eye opening aspect of it for me was when I rebooted my macbook into Windows7 via bootcamp and it still presisted. At that point it had NOTHING to do w/ OS software, plist, safe mode or myraid of other suggestions you'll encounter.

Screen maginified and jumps around. Magic mouse issues

All of a sudden my magic mouse will zoom things without my command. It has magnified my screen so the whole screen (desktop) is not visible at one time and I can't figure out how to put it back the way it was. In the meantime, when I move the move everything jumps around. HELP! What is going on?

Sorry, I don't think you understand the problem I'm having. The mouse acts on its own all of a sudden. For example I will be in an application and just move the mouse (without touching the keyboard or attempting to click anything) and the screen will zoom to 400%. Now my desktop screen is so zoomed in that the top or bottom is missing. So when I move the mouse the whole screen jumps up and down or from side to side. No amount of tinkering in System Preferences has fixed it. Changing the screen resolution makes it worse actually. Holding the Control key on the desktop just brings up the menu for the desktop. It does nothing.
I've read that there are issues with the magic mouse. I guess that would be correct.

First thing to try is to reset your device. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the device restart. See if that fixes your problem.

Site skipping and jumping in other browsers

My site skips and jumps around when you scroll in IE and other browsers. The site looks great in safari..is there any way to fix that?

Font and Photo not displaying messages

When using messages in OS X Mavericks my buddies photo is displayed against the bubble, howevermy photi is not displayed next to my bubble. I have checked and I do have a photo associated with my account. Also if I checnge the look and feel of my bubbles by changing the font type the change works for my buddies bubble but no matter what changes I make to my own bubble it always displays in the default font.

By Default the image used in Messages is the one associated with the Buddy Lists.
If you have only the iMessages account in use it will fall back on using the Pic in the My Card in the Contacts list - this is turn is likely to be the pic you chose on creating the Login Pic shown in System Preferences> User and Groups > Your account.
That is to say that when you set up the Mac or the Mac User Account you chose the Login Pic.
This is then added to the Contacts App as the My Card pic when you add your Name to the details.
That pic is then used as the Default in Messages (including the iMessages account) until such time you change th Buddy List pic.
For this you need to enable at least the Bonjour account in Messages > Preferences > Accounts
Then from the Window Menu you can display the Buddy List(s). (They can be separated out by the setting in the General Section (of the Preferences) that refers to "showing all Buddy List in one List").
Once there is a Buddy List Pic then the iMessages account uses this.
The Menu item that seems to refer to change the Pic only refers to Changing it for the Buddy lists - but as a consequence it then uses it for the iMessages account.
FONTS.
The Font is changed in Messages > Preferences> Viewing.
However the background colour has to be taken of Automatic first.
The Background can be any of the options or the item at the bottom of the drop down allows you to alter the colour to anything you want.
THEN you can change the Font and it will stick and not revert to Helvetica.
The Font Text colour can also be changed.
These Details are written to a file called com.apple.ichat.plist
If you have lost the ability to Write to this item then they also will not stick.
Let me know if this is the case and we can pursue that if the other options don't work.

Firefox not displaying fonts and sizes properly

In firefox the fonts are not displaying properly they are either bold or small and bold some text is displayed normally but most is not most is either really small or bold. This is also the case for IE, im on windows 7 running latest versions. However Chrome, Opera and Safari all display correct fonts and sizes it is just firefox and IE that are affected. And yes everything from font size to page size is at default so please dont reply with zoom in and out thanks.

You can try different default fonts.
Tools > Options > Content : Fonts & Colors > Advanced
[ ] "Allow pages to choose their own fonts, instead of my selections above"
You can also try to disable hardware acceleration.
Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"
But it is back to how it was thank you very much!

ICal and Address Book fonts--how do you display them in their own font?

I tried printing address labels from Mac's Address Book. It was pretty intuitive and straight forward. However, when I was prepping to print, I had the chance to change the fonts. The list of fonts was not presented with each font name in the font itself (does this make sense?).
When I use Excel or Word and want to change fonts from Arial to Times New Roman, I go to the font chooser, and Times New Roman is displayed in Times New Roman font. If I want to be creative and pick something new, it's easy to see how it will appear, because the name of the font is displayed in the font its describing.
Is there a setting I need to adjust in order to make this work in Address Book and/or iCal?

On one hand they make Mail look stark, like the interior of a Porsche 911, gray, gray, gray, (boring) and on the other hand they make iCal look like some 3rd party creation where they paid a graphic designer 250.00 to come up with a cool look. Cheesy!
Probably designed by some unemployed Windows XP graphic 'artist.'
As to Address Book. Why complicate something that is already working just fine.

I can't even get the swipe bar.

The easiest way to turn off the zoom accessibility feature is to connect your phone to iTunes on your computer. In the Summary pane, click the "Configure Universal Access..." button. On the next screen, under "Seeing", select "Neither" and click OK.
