Display of portfolios

When I use portfolio in Acrobat (X Pro on windows XP) I used to have 2 display windows. One for small icons of the files, the large one for file preview. If I close and open again the same Porfolio, the display is not the one I had when closing (there is only one windows with the icons) even if I cliked on Preferences -> Documents ->Restore the last display parameters..
Any hint?

from what I know I believe pausing it is not possible as it is added into the index.html, another feature to stopping it would be pausing your screen using Lightshot, it is made to take a screenshot of the area you select but pauses the screen at the same time!

Web design company looking for iPad app to display my portfolio at a trade show

I run a small web development business and have my first trade show coming up. I'll have a booth setup and was hoping to have my iPad out on the table for people to pick up and scroll through my portoflio (ie web designs, logo concepts, etc.). I've seen this app:

which looks great but I was wondering if anyone else had other options. I like the idea that the above app allows you to lock the device so that users can only scroll through the portfolio and need a PIN to do anything else.
I don't have much experience with the iPad as I just got it and I don't do any app development. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for any and all help!

Locking the iPad so that a user can't exit an app isn't possible for any developer to implement, since the developer kit doesn't provide that sort of access to the low-level routines in iOS. The only way to lock into a single app is to use a case/frame that covers the Home button (and turn off the gesture support in the settings in iOS 5). A number of companies make kiosk mounts for this purpose.

Can I turn off the retina display feature on the new MacBook Pro?

I recently got the new MacBook Pro with Retina display. I love how fast this machine performs, it's weight and thickness.
However, working in Advertisement, this machine's made my line of work a bit too pixelated. There are no websites optimized for this new display, making portfolios hard to see as the retina screen makes things blurry and fussy looking. Not only that, but non of the Adobe products are ready for this technology either. It's hard to open a piece of software you'd like to design with and work with pixelated tools (photoshop among others).
I can do without the Ethernet port, optical drive and the lack of a locking system for this machine. But, making things uglier on the web isn't something I'm willing to sacrifice since is my line of work. Any idea of a third party that can turn this feature off?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Otherwise, this beauty is going back to the Apple store.

sorry, but the 2880x1800 is hardware; in fact what makes non-optimized sites look (relativly) ugly is that to upscale the graphics to the apparent resolution of everything else each pixel is represented by 4 pixels, and as you know being in graphics, upscaling pictures is generally results in ugly.
Back to my point, there's no software to make the display lose 75% of its pixels; you'll either have to use another machine and/or wait for sites to optomize their graphics for the retina displays...which may or may never happen depending on the sites awareness/closeness with Apple's technology

We should can see Portfolio contents in Bridge

Bridge should be the refference for any kind of management and display.
A portfolio is like a folder which contains different files. Bridge should allow us
to look inside. A new kind of view would display the portfolio content and we would
be able to see and open everything without to start Acrobat for that.

The key problem there is that this step:
chflags -R nouchg /Volumes/{name of your network share}/{name of}.sparsebundle
yields nothing - no response.
Then, the next step:
hdiutil attach -nomount -noverify -noautofsck /Volumes/{name of your network share/{name of}.sparsebundle
Gives me:
/dev/diskx
Instead of something like this:

So... it's definitely a little crazy messed up.

1) filename aliases so that we could create the names to display instead having to display actual filenames.
2) Portfolios of Portfolios - incredibly useful if we could stack levels of portfolios. I discovered that it's 'almost' possible. We can create and access a portfolio inside of a portfolio. I completely agree with you. Also mine company, which bought and used "Presenter 7", and would like to upgrade to "Presenter 8" or "9 Presenter," But in the absence of this feature video capture for the sidebar is not acquistera "Presenter 9 "if you do not back the functionality and probably will try alternative software that do this.
So me too request to Adobe to reinsert this functionality in "Presenter 9" or alternatives of equal simplicity (eg the inclusion of a button "Capture Video" as in "Presenter 7" next to the "Recorder".

Ios7 Safari displays web page incorrectly

ios7 devices (iPad and iPhone) do not display LSE portfolio web page correctly. Graphics and text boxes at top of page are displayed as text, presumably not recognized as html code of some sort.
LSE say they have checked it out and there is nothing wrong with their code. Apple Genius at Apple store says there is nothing wrong with ios7 and/or Safari.
Someone is wrong or there is a setting somewhere in ios7 that I don't know about.
Any ideas?

Basic Question: How do 2 Displays on one computer work?

Does the desktop expand to both displays? Is there a dock on both displays? Can I move windows from one display to the other display?
I have a stock program and I would like to have the charts on one display and portfolios and dialog boxes on the other display. Can I do that?

Depending on your configuration, you can either display the same image on both displays(mirroring) or display one image extended over multiple displays(spanning). Based on the system information in your post, you are using a PowerPC iMac, which generally cannot use spanning.
In the mirroring mode, the desktop will not expand, there will be a Dock on both displays, and windows cannot be dragged between the displays. When spanning, the desktop will expand and windows can be dragged from one display to the other.

Asset Management and tracking using iOS?

Hi,
I would like to use iphones for asset management and tracking and am having a bit of difficulty finding what I am looking for. I bought delicious library 3 at home to see if it could track code39 or code128 but so far it doesn't work, and I can't seem turn off Amazon searching. Anyway, I also ran across iCody, which looked nice and even clz barry, but they all seem to be data entry only.
What I am looking for is an app/application set that can work in two ways:
1. Build a database (this could be manually if it needs to be) of asset items. I would then enter details about that item into the database.
2. Scan, view, and possibly edit the item by barcode using an iOS device.
Has anyone found something that will do this? I'm not real interested in demoing apps by buying them first

Why can't I get albums to work for me?

I'm struggling with creating a new site for my business that uses albums to display my portfolio images. I have everything working like it should inside iWeb, but when I publish to a folder or upload it to a website, the albums just work as images and do not link to the gallery of images inside.
I have two galleries on my portfolio page. Within iWeb, I can click on either album and get the images to open in slideshow and other modes. For some reason, though, the link is broken to prevent the album from working as a link to the images within when it is translated to a working webpage. What am I doing wrong? I dragged an iPhoto gallery to the gallery page to create each album and am able to do all of the navigation I would expect within iWeb.

Anyone else find the more you use your iPad professionally the more of a pain it becomes?

I love my iPad2 and my iPhone 4 but lately i've found more uses for my iPad from a professional point of view and have tried to take advantage of this by using it for work. I'm self employed and i use my ipad and iphone to take photos, formulate quotes/estimates and email them to the clients, display my portfolio and PDF's of brochures......etc. The thing that winds me up is needing an app to do everything. It all just seems very messy now. It didn't bother me when all i was doing was browsing the Web and sending emails but now i'm actually using it properly to do proper things the whole way in which it functions is awfully messy and a bit of a ball ache.
For example;
I take a photo with my iphone of a property that requires scaffolding.....i want to transfer it to my ipad so i can edit the photo with some annotations, lines and arrows and then send it via email to the scaffolding company i use.
This is a majorly long drawn out process. Take photo with iphone.........enable app on iphone and ipad for file transfer, select transfer via bluetooth, photo sends at a painfully slow rate, find photo in ipad, open in editing app, edit photo, save photo, open photo in email program........etc. It just takes ages.
Why are functions such as transferring files and photos between iphone and ipad with the same OS not part of the basic functions of the OS.....why the **** would you want an app for that? I'd like to be able to pair my devices once and then be able to transfer anything i like by either pushing it from one device to the other or pulling it from one device to the other. Having to put one device in send mode and the other in receive mode seams a slow and backwards way around of doing things. File transfer was quicker between devices years ago.
The ipad is an amazing piece of tech and works really nice but moving files around and actually carrying out productiive work on it is majorly clunky and messy. Anyone else agree? Lets hope iOS5 sorts this out.

Cheers for that. Unfortunately not available yet though. Looks like it might make things easier. From what i can gather though it will still require 3g or wi-fi connection to sync everything up. I'm assuming that if i take a photo at a clients house and then want to email it immediately to someone from my ipad it wont instantly be available on my ipad? I'd just like to be able to send photos' between my apple products without needing to do 20 screen taps:)
Looks like iOS5 might bring us a little closer to a fully functional tablet.

Changing screen resolution with a button

Hi,
I would like to ask if there is a way for an interface to change the screen resolution of the computer? I am wanting to build an interface that loads an interactive camera that works with processing however I am needing it to be at the resolution 800*900 as the webcam screen is too small on a full 1680x1050 resolution.
Is there a way for the flash application to change the screen resolution with a button click? Are there any alternatives to this?

It is to display a portfolio at my design school for assessment, they will accomodate any necessary things that i may need for assessment viewing so it is very important to me.
Do you know what programs will work with this? What program would i have to install?
I only need to do this for my assessment so it is almost a desperate search for something that would work.

So, I’ve constructed a portfolio site with ActionScript 2.0, but I would like the pop-up window that displays the portfolio image to have its own ‘X’ button that closes the swf movie from the browser. I’m assuming that the code begins something like this:

My main flash as2 file has a stage size of 1200 width x720 height. I’ve looked online through various methods on creating pop-up browsers that will display a portfolio image when a button on the main.swf is clicked. Having no luck in finding what I needed (most tutorials just give getURL examples where the image is displayed in a separate tab), it finally dawned on me to create an overlaying movie, of the same size as the document size, on the top layer of the primary flash stage. Setting the movie symbol as ‘invisible’ keeps the movie symbol inactive and invisible until called by an action. The button on the main.swf that calls the movie has the following as2 script attached to it:

However, the aauComp.swf file is where the exit button is located. I need to implement an on(release){} method onto the exit button in aauComp.swf that will close the movie out in the main.swf file. Here’s the double wammy, though: the exit button on the called movie file, aauComp.swf, does not recognize any gotoAndStop(); or on(release){} functions relating to itself when it is loaded. For instance, since I could not find any functions that would close the movie out and return me to the main.swf interface, I wrote the following command on the ‘exit’ button in aauComp.swf:

Where “blank_frame” is within a scene of aauComp.swf that is completely empty – which should, in theory, allow for interaction with the main.swf below the loaded movie since there is nothing on that layer of the loaded aauComp.swf movie. Make sense? The ‘exit’ button works fine when aauComp.swf is tested and published by itself, but when it is called into the main.swf with the loadMovie(); function, the 'exit' button will not work and, so, it will not forward to the “blank_frame”.
Any suggestions? Let me know if you need anything clarified.

Need to PREVENT automatic re-painting of non-focus pages as content on them changes.

I use multiple tabs in 1 or 2 windows, and SOME of the pages have continuously updated information in some areas. Apparently Firefox is set to SWITCH FOCUS from whatever I am looking at to whichever page/tab has a fresh update. This causes no end of grief, as I may be in the middle of reading a sentence, or scrolling to find a particular item in a page, or responding in a text field, and all of a sudden my display bounces to an page that is unrelated to what I am doing. Unacceptable. I note, in addition, that this is a problem EVEN IF I ONLY HAVE ONE PAGE/TAB/WINDOW open, in that it can bounce me from where I am looking to where I haven't asked to look, and this can happen EVEN WHEN I AM HOLDING DOWN THE LMB WHILE CONTROLLING SCROLLING TO FIND SOMETHING ON THE CURRENT PAGE.
None of these behaviors make sense, and all interrupt browsing, rendering it annoying to completely ineffective. The correct way to handle continuous updating of browser information is to ONLY shift to a new location when the user is NOT actively controlling the current activity on the current display, either by using navigation commands such as scrolling, or by active input to the screen.
Does Firefox currently have a way for me to STOP the automatic re-display of updating pages?
I am using v12.0.
(I note that I do NOT recall this being a huge problem until I upgraded from a much-earlier version.)

I can do the upgrade, but if you're not already aware of a way to configure this, it will probably make no difference. A simple way to see it is to go to Marketwatch.com, set up a stock portfolio of 20 active stocks and set a page to display the portfolio. Then open another tab and display some text from anywhere that requires scrolling past the end of the screen. Hold the mouse button down and scroll in the text. When the stock portfolio is updated, the display focus shifts back to the portfolio page EVEN IF YOU ARE ACTIVELY SCROLLING IN TEXT. Similarly, you can open a page with a text fill-in box and be typing in the box, and a stock update will shift focus AWAY FROM THE PAGE WHERE YOU ARE TYPING. (Happened to me while filling out this box.)

Some photo's will not transfer to iPod

My iPod touch started experiencing strange behavior ever since the 1.1.4 update was installed.
Now whenever I sync it, I receive an error that certain photos will not be synced because they cannot be displayed on the iPod. The funny thing is that there is nothing different with these files. They all came from the same camera and it will even load other images from the same event. As far as I'm aware, these files have not been edited outside of iPhoto.
Here is the error: "Some of your photos, including 'PB25005.jpg' were not copied to the iPod 'Touch' because they cannot be displayed on your iPod."
I like how it states that there is multiple photo's and then gives an example of a photo that cannot be copied. How do I find out what the other photos are? Why can't they be synced?
Anybody know if there is a log file that I can review

I have noticed the same behavior of the IPT syncing photos. And I've noticed it prior to the 1.1.4 update.
Of the 2722 images in 16 folders that I attempt to sync the IPT accepts 2701 and rejects 21. (Less than 1% failure ratio.) I have not been able to discover the rhyme or reason for the rejects and have played with one photo to force (trick) my iPod into accepting it to no avail.
It's a mystery but not a great concern since the IPT is just a fun way to display my portfolio.

Safari browser problematic

I have a treo 700p phone that I use all the time to read the paper online, I am also a pro photographer, so I bought the ipod touch for a better web browsing experience when at home (where I use the treo all the time) and also as a way to display my portfolio to clients. I have not used it for photographs yet but the browser is not user-friendly. Why does it not automatically adjust the CSS scripts to fit the window at a preset magnification level where you can read the text? The treo does this and it works great. If we could at least have this as an option, we wouldn't constantly be pinching our screens to make out the text.
Also, using my very fast dsl connection, the safari browser is not any faster than my treo, which uses verizon's EV/DO connection (which I know is way slower than the dsl because I can connect my laptop to the internet using the treo). Why is the safari browser so sluggish?
Finally, like everybody else out there, I am disappointed to see this release without a concurrent rollout of flash support for the mobile safari browser.
How do other people find the speed and usability of the browser on the ipod touch?

Speed is great here.
Home: Cable, 6Mb down, 1Mb up.
Office: DSL, 10Mb down, 2Mb up.
Works very fast.
Usability, my eyes are getting older.
I wish I could save a magnification level, page-to-page.
Would love contextual-menu support.
Otherwise, Flash, I don't care.
