Display unaccountably gets too big for the screen
This has happened maybe a dozen times, and I don't know what I did to make it happen. Suddenly, the desktop display gets too large for the screen, and I have to scroll around to find the dock or the menu bar. Whatever else I'm working on, e-mail, etc., gets outsized, too. Does anyone know how to correct this? So far, restarting has worked, but that's a pretty time-consuming way to do it.
Cindy,
Hold down the CNTL key and scroll down with the mouse or trackpad. That should change it back to size. This is called screen zoom.
Cheers
You can also deactivate it in System Preferences for the Mouse and/or trackpad.

My display has gotten too big for the screen! How to fix?
This is really strange. The tab bar at the top and the dock at the bottom don't both fit on the screen anymore. And when I move the mouse the whole screen shifts until it rests at its topmost or bottommost position. Same with left/right. There's about 4" of play in each direction. Very frustrating. Tried System Preferences but all the settings seem correct. Anyone know what this is and how to fix it? Thanks,
JohnIt sounds like you have accidentally activated zoom.
You can disable zoom in System Preferences->Universal Access preference pane->Seeing.
Mac OS X 10.5 Help Making it easier to see what’s on the screen -
Recently when I open any apps the pages are too big for the screen. They shrink when pinched but immediately become bigger again. It's very difficult to scroll too. The keypad has become very sticky. Missing letters and spaces when I type and needing to tap the keys much harder than usual
I have the exact same problem, I think. I was on my iPad 3's home page swiping R-L to locate a certain icon when all of a sudden the screen appeared to get HUGE. So big I could only see one or two icons. I couldn't even turn it off to try a reboot because after I pushed the sleep/wake button, I couldn't find the red slide bar. I finally just had to wait for the battery to die, then recharge it, and it looked normal again. I also spoke with several friends who haven either iPads or iPhones, and they've all had this happen to them. I checked my accessibility settings, and Zoom was already off. So what is causing this problem for so many people, and what can we do to prevent it? Please help.

My iPad standard window is bit too big for the screen.
My iPad screen unexpectedly got slightly too big for the display window. The size is bit too big. For example, the keyboard when it pops up does not fully display all tkey sans. Another example is the time/power remaining bar slips out of sight. Did I accidentally change something? Is this an issue with version of iOS that I am using (4.3.3)? (Note I'm not talking about resizing by using your fingers.)
John,
I am having the same problem. The enlargement is not the same as the 3 finger tap or the 2 finger zoom. The screen opens and then bumps to a slightly larger screen just enough to make it too big to see the outer edges. You can put 3 fingers on the screen and move the screen to see the edges but you cannot get it to shrink to the correct size. This is the second time this has happened to me. I am also having some other issues. Sometimes while in an app the app will close and I will be diverted to the home screen. And sometimes when playing "with Friends games" the letters on the letterboard (not the key pad) disappear, will not move or are giant. I plan on taking it back to the Apple store this week but I hate the idea of having to start over. -
My kids have played around with my computer & the display is now so large that it doesn't fit on the screen so I can only see the top or bottom if I move the mouse there, how do I get it so it all fits back in it's fixed screen?
They have accidentally (or not!) activated Zoom!
Go to System Preferences/Universal Access/Seeing to turn it off! -
When firefox is loaded the display is too big for the screen & blocks out controls
When I load Firefox Home, the display is too large to fit into the screen making it impossible to see the controls (Toolbar and log-out cross etc) This has only just happened, everything was working perfectly until about an hour ago
Open the system menu via Alt+Space and see if you can resize that window.
If that works then close Firefox (File > Exit/Quit) to save that setting.

Is there is a reason why pictures in iOS 7 don't work well with setting your backgrounds??
This needs to be changed back to iOS 6 style for setting backgrounds, otherwise everything else is good."Why" - because Apple designed it that way, probably to allow for the motion-parallax effect in the iOS 7 home screen. It has been this way since iOS 7 was released 6 months ago. Why are you first noticing it now?

The pages become too big for the screen on Macbook pro
Hello,
Yesterday I was watching a movie on amazon.com using my Macbook Pro (retina display if it helps). I connected it to my TV via HDMI and put it on full screen. After the movie I was too lazy to tidy up and went to sleep. This morning, when I opened it, on the 'safari' ( I don't know if its the same name in english because my computer is in french) and battle.net have 1/3 of the page is outside the borders of it horizontally and vertically. I also feel that everything is bigger. I tried restarting it or closing the pages and opening them again but it doesn't work. Please help me because I use my laptop for everything I do and I need it as soon as possible. Please excuse any spelling mistakes.Sorry I found what the problem was but I can only explain in french, you have to go to 'preferences system' then to 'Moniteurs' and click on 'Optimal (retina).

Before the ios7 update we uses to be able to size our wallpapers backgrounds we choose to be the size we desire to fit our screen. Now we can't do this. Why? Is it something they left out for some reason or is there something I'm doing wrong?
Yes you can delete those temporary files as long as you've saved any changes you've made back to the main document. So I'd open the document with the same name without the ~ and hidden file attribute and make sure it's the way you want it. Then you can delete the temporary file.
The key command you want to enlarge text in internet explorer holding down command and hitting the =/+ key. Conversely the command and - key makes text in internet explorer smaller. -
I am trying to figure out ow to prevent tables from breaking along a row when there is a page break in "Pages". This is done in MS Word by going under Table properties under "Rows". I have a document with small three row tables and I want to keep the tables together and move to the next page in its entirety when there is a page break. Help!
The table that I don't want to break between rows looks like this, except it fits the width of the page:
quilt name
picture of quilt
source
Size: XX; Difficulty Level: 3
I inserted a Inline Text box into the document, copied the table inside the text box, then pasted it through the document (which lists quilting projects). When the table spans a page break, even when in an inline text box, the picture which is in the right hand column splits, as well as the information pertaining to the particular quilt.
Jerry - thank you for your help. I tried to give you a "solved my problem" rating, but I am adjusting to the Mac slowly after 20+ years on a PC. -
A document page opens that is too big for the display and runs off the end of the monitor
How do you fix a problem where document pages open that are too big for the display and runs off the end of the monitor? The borders are off the monitor so there is no window edge to grab and adjust.
Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, or by a peripheral device.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain iMacs. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test. -
Today I had my Mac linked to a projector screen, and since disconnection evrything from the desk top onwards has been too large for the screen. Before that evrything was perfect. I have tried zoom buttons etc, but nothing seems to work. Any help gratefully rceived.
So it's not the Zoom feature? Open System Preferences Universal Access pane Seeing tab. Make sure Zoom is turned OFF.
If it's not that, then you may have the resolution set so that it is not optimal for the built-in display. Open System Preferences Displays pane Display tab. The optimal resolution is usually the one at the top of the list of choices. -

Desktop is too big for the display
Some how this morning while on my Mac a display setting or something was changed. If your on the desktop, with all windows closed, the background, icons, dock.....everything is too big for the display. If you move the cursor all the way to left it will 'slide' the desktop in that direction. Move it all the way to the right edge of the display and it 'slides' the desktop to the right until you reach the edge. Also the same for the up or down directions.
At first I thought it had something to do with the multi-touch track pad, but I don't think so. I have checked all the display settings I can think of and have tried re-sizing the desktop to all other settings in an attempt to fix the problem. Additionally I have restarted/shutdown the computer totally to see if it would fix the issue. No success. Please help.
Thx,
AudioboyI had the same problem, but the zoom was already off. So I went under "options" and unchecked "use scroll wheel with modifier keys to zoom," and that took care of it.
Thought that might help some others who find this thread. -
Screen on my phone it seems to be too big for the phone
Don't know if this a major problem but its bloody annoying! I've installed os 3.0.1 on my iphone 3gs 16gb and there was no problems, however when I looked at the screen on my phone it seems to be too big for the phone, only by 1-2mm. I'm able to move the screen either up or down by touch but its annoying, I can either have my signal strength, clock and battery showing or the phone, mail, safari and ipod at the bottom, obviously I keep the top of the screen visible but it wasn't like that before I downloaded that stupid update!! I would rather go back to 3.0 but I can't find it anywhere? any ideas anyone
Have you zoomed in a little as per p. 187 of the manual... http://manuals.info.apple.com/enUS/iPhone_UserGuide.pdf
If not, try resetting your iPhone by pressing the home and sleep buttons until you see the Apple logo, ignoring the slider. Takes about 5-15 secs of button holding and you won't lose any data or settings.
