Distorted songs

I have iTunes 6.0.5 and all of my music is distorted and staticy when played. I thought it was my laptop speakers at first, but when played in Windows Media Player, the songs sound fine. Solutions?

we had better check on the usual suspects from the following document. (note that since you've got an itunes 6.0.5.20, you'll need to check on the QT 7 sound out settings rather than the QT 6 ones. restart itunes and/or QuickTime after making any changes to settings.)

  • ITunes 7.0 Distorted Songs Bug

This is the problem with iTunes messing up songs by having skipping, distrotion, echoing, and other issues. I've tried to turn sound up all the way, which is a temparary fix, and I really don't think lowering the quality will work for me. Everytime I get to a certian site on firefox iTunes starts with the issues and won't stop until I have to close it. Does someone have a good fix for this?

    hey guys
been reading this and experiencing these problems
I think a lot of windows users will be until Apple fixes them
There's nothing you can do to fix them, it is an ITunes problem, I know this cause there are 5 computers in my house (3 laptops, 2 desktops) all 2 years or younger, one with a great soundblaster card and ALL 5 are having the crackling distorting playback
I'm sure Apple knows this and will fix it

  • Distorted songs on burned DVD

I created some movies in iMovie using still photos from iPhoto, and added songs from iTunes. Then I burned a DVD using iDVD. Playing this DVD on my Panasonic DVD player and TV, some, not all, of the songs are distorted. Everything sounds just fine on the computer, previewing in iMovie, iDVD. Even playing the offending DVD in the computer doesn't have this problem, only on the TV. Any thoughts?

I was wondering if you ever fixed all the issues as I'm having similar problems. I didn't have this problem when using the iMovie HD and iDVD combo. But now that I use iMovie 08, iDVD 08 and Garageband (forced to use because I want custom chapter markers) I have had the same audio distortion with several projects using various downloaded (amazon) mp3's or LAME rips 224 kbps or higher. I checked the dvd on my PS3 to Pioneer plasma...sounds distorted. Other computers and "simple DVD" players the song is high but can't tell the distortion.
So here's what I'm trying to answer
    Is it my PS3-Pioneer TV?
How does the normalization in iMovie work? Does garageband undo it?
Here's why I ask...I set the volume levels for 75% on all music tracks then normalized and exported, loaded in Gband, added chapters and re-exported using share to disk. I saw something speed by that looked liked it said normalizing, and was wondering what that does to the track that is supposedly already normalized.
I plan on running a few tests so that I don't have deal with this again.
I have re-done the audio without normalization, but volume at 75%. I'll import this direct to idvd...test
same thing only run through gband then idvd..test
    Any help/info is appreciated...
PS..I usually burn on TDK DVD-R's

  • Slow and distorted songs

Hey my songs and videos are all distorted, there like fuzzy and stuff, what can i do to fix this? Does anyone else have this problem?
    Dell 8400   Windows XP

You've probably read this elsewhere already, but this is an iTunes 7 problem, I'm just hazarding a guess that's what you have installed. Unfortunately, I'm having the same problem and (im)patiently awaiting a fix from Apple.

  • Distorted songs playing through latest version of iTunes

I recently upgrade to 12.1.0.71 Itunes (OSWindows 8) and now the songs playing through iTunes are distorted... I have tested all other music on my computer through WMP and that comes through perfect..any clues to how to fix...was fine before this recent upgrade...

    This version of iTunes 12.1:
iTunes 12.1 for Windows (64-bit — for older video cards)
seems to address the playback issues that some users have been reporting with the full 64-bit version (the installer here is the same architecture as most previous "64-bit" versions of iTunes, i.e., a 32-bit application with a 64-bit installer).  The "for older video cards" does not seem to fully define the scope of systems for which this alternative works better.

  • Static/distorted songs on itunes/iphone.

There are some albums in my library that are all distorted and others are grand, the same songs are affected on my phone. It makes no difference when earphones are plugged in, anyone else had this problem/fixed it?

I was having the same issue after updating to the latest OS on my 4s and iTunes to revision 11.something.  This is what I did to fix my problem, and the dang thing is synching (Tones, Music and Movies) as I'm writing this.
    1. Disconnect iPhone, reboot it and do not connect it back yet.
    2. Delete all Tones, Music and Movies libraries in iTunes (I have these saved on my local drive).
    3. Close iTunes and restart it.
    4. Add File to Library for Tones, Music and Movies (I have these saved on my local drive).
    5. Connect iPhone, Sync only Checked
    6. Apply

  • Updating to 7.4.1.2 results in distorted song playback

When I updated my iTunes, as prompted, to the 7.4.1.2 version, my music played back missing the main vocal/melody line, or with the line significantly distorted. Sound from other programs on my computer plays fine, so it isn't my hardware or sound manager. The files play fine on my iPod, just not on the computer. I have been installing several new programs recently (Firefox, Skype, Google Earth), so it might be a software conflict, but none of them are multimedia programs.
Any suggestions for how I could go about figuring out what's wrong and fixing it?

After installing the new itunes 7.4, I wasn't able to use the radio functions like it did before. Now, it needs to "rebuff" every 3-5 SECONDS!! I spoke with a "technical support" person at Apple, they think it's because the radio stations haven't upgraded yet to keep up with the new itunes 7.4; ********.
So I removed the new itunes software, as well as the other apple software (apple software, apple mobile, quicktime, and itunes) as instructed by the "technical support" person and then went ahead to reinstall the 7.3 version I still had in another folder. However, the itunes library wasn't able to be open because it stated "cannot open itunes library already installed by the new version".
So, how can I get the new version COMPLETELY removed so that I can reinstall the version 7.3 that actually works better. I can't tell if there's anything wrong with the 7.3 version I have since I can't seem to download it correctly without having my computer tell me the same "cannot open" ********.
And the "technical support" people can't seem to help, after they transferred me to this one guy who basically said that they don't support any other versions besides the 7.4. He suggested I "google" an older version to download if I wanted. Of course, I'm not about to download something from someone and get a "virus".

  • ITune 7.0 awful song distortion

So, amongst the host of other bugs with this release, this is the most aggravating of all for me.
A lot of the music is totally distorted and unlistenable after updating to iTunes 7.0. I can't find any common feature of the distorted songs, it seems to be random, but consistent with the same songs.
It sounds washed out, like an old audio cassette. I found a suggestion that recommended turning off crossfade playback, and after I went to make sure it was off (it already was) and then went back to play a problem song, it sounded fine. Quitting and then reopening iTunes brings back the distorted music.
I've opened the song files in Quicktime 7.1.3 and they're distorted there too, so I'm thinking this a Quicktime issue, but I'm posting here because most people will notice the problem in iTunes.
I'm eagerly anticipating Apple's update, but in the meantime does anyone have any ideas?

Have you tried downgrading the Quicktime engine? That may not be possible. That might not be possible, in fact I think I remember reading something about iTunes not running with out QT 7.1.3. But it might be worth a shot, at least for experimental purposes.

  • Music Distortion tied to preamp/equalizer?

I have over 2,000 songs on iTunes, most imported from CD's, about 25% from iTunes and other downloads. Some songs with loud base passages (like Pirates of the Caribbean) sound very distorted during playback. This happens using internal speakers on my iMac G5 (not used much), on Logitech external speakers (about 2 years old) or Bose Quiet Comfort headphones. It also happens on my iPod Touch with ear buds or Bose headphones.
I tinkered with the Preamp settings (tried 0DB and -12DB or turned off Preamp completely)--this seemed to resolve the problem to some extent. But the sound is still not as clear and crisp as I think it should be. I'm running OS 10.5.6 and iTunes 8.0.2 so I think everything is up to date. What can I do to fix this annoying problem???

Distortion is most times related on mismatching output/input voltages.
I had same problem with some imported songs. Still don't know why. Try this:
Mark a distorted song in Tunes with right mouse button and choose "Get Info" from context menu, then go to Options.
In there you will find volume adjustment +- 100%. Reduce to -100% and try again. But it's not working more than once, after saving and opening again you will find the adjustment still on -100%.
You also can try to import songs again, which you think are worthwhile the effort and use a different encoder in the iTunes preferences/general/import settings.
    Good luck....

  • Without Upgrading I Can't Download Certain Tracks?

I upgraded to the latest version of I Tunes 7 recently. However the playback of all the songs in my library was distorted & songs were jumping during playback. I then decided to revert back to I Tunes 6, since I have done this the quality of playback is back to normal. However, as I now have an older version when I click to download some tracks I am told I must upgrade to I Tunes 7! I am not prepared to do this because of the problems I've had with it. Is there anyway of downloading these tracks without upgrading? Is there an option somewhere to allow this as I am not bothered about I Tunes + features?
    Thanx

+I downloaded 1 track when I upgraded before which is an I Tunes Plus tune, even now that I've gone back to I Tunes 6 it still plays fine?+
The iTunes Plus tracks are plain AAC/256 files. They will play fine in old versions of iTunes.
+Has anyone else got any ideas? ... There are now more and more songs I can't download until I upgrade.+
Have you looked for the tracks in other online stores such as audiolunchbox.com and amazon.com ? Both of them have big selections and have no DRM at all. They sell in MP3 format, which is fully compatible with iTunes/iPod and all other players as well. You can make purchases within your browser without other software required, so the whole "required upgrade" issue goes away. While you are at it, compare the prices.

  • Anyone notice distorted bass in songs after updating to iOS 5

I have a 4th gen Ipod Touch and just upgraded to iOS 5 today. When I play a song the bass sounds all distorted and rattles as if I am using incredibly cheap headphones or something when I am using good quality Bose headphones. I did not notice this in iOS 4. Has anyone else had this issue, and if so, how did you fix it. I am thinking or resyincing and setting up my ipod as a "new ipod" to see if that works, but have to wait until after work.

Anyone notice color shifts in grades after updating to 1.5? There is a warning to this effect when you update legacy projects, has anyone experienced this, and if so, what kind of shifts were noticeable and how were they solved?
I'll see if I can hunt it down in the docs (a quick search didn't reveal the info) - but 1.x projects are not fully compatible with 1.5 and there may be unpredictable results.

  • How can I increase the tempo of a song without distorting the vocals?

I have a song I recorded, with the vocals and backing track on seperate tracks.
The song has been recorded a bit too slow, and I need to increase the tempo. However, when I do this, the vocals become distorted and have a wavy sound.
Is there any way I can increase the tempo of the song without distoring the vocals? I've tried doing it on the final song (merged tracks) and on the vocals alone, but nothing seems to work. It doesn't make sense, since when you do the same thing to a song by a professional artist, you can increase the tempo of the song without distoring the vocals.
What am I doing wrong? How can I increase the tempo of my song without distoring the vocals?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

in general GB doesn't do such a great job with changing tempo of audio recordings, what you might find works better is to export your song uncompressed and then use an audio editor:

  • Why does emailing a song from iPad Garageband distort the music?

When using Garageband for iPad (which is amazing by the way), when I export to iTunes, the sound is perfect.  When I use the email export function, I find that there are almost always often distortions, artifacts, or ommissions.
My process is usually to make the song, make a screenshot, switch to photoshop, rotate the screenshot, go to Photos, copy the screenshot, return to Garageband, export to email, wait for the encoding to take place, paste the photo beneath the song in the email, then send the email (usually to posterous).
If I export through my mac in iTunes it seems to work flawlessly.

I've found that the AAC file exported through iTunes or through email are exactly the same... however... I've noticed this: Sometimes when I first boot up iPad garageband and start playing a song, I get distortion, dropped notes or ends of notes. If I stop the song, rewind and play again, it sounds fine. Just recently I booted up garageband and WITHOUT opening or playing the song, I exported the AAC (.m4a) file to iTunes and also emailed it to myself. Both versions had chopped notes, stuttering, etc. throughout the whole song!!! On a hunch, I went back to garageband, opened the song and played it. Sure enough, at the beginning it played like sh*t. When I touched the 'go to beginning' button and played again, it played fine. I then closed the song and exported as the above procedure. Both files played fine!
Maybe it's my earbuds but the imported songs sound duller than when listening to the originals on the iPad.

  • Distortion/stutter between songs with itunes 7.0.1.8

Everything was fine with itunes 6.x; then I upgraded to 7. Now when I play itunes on the sony computer, for 10 to 15 seconds between songs the music is distorted or stutters. Also itunes freezes for this time period. I have noticed the following: CPU usage shoots up from 6% to 70%. If I am using any other application (ie. program, email, etc.) it freezes for these few seconds. I have to stop playing/close itunes to do anything else on the computer. I have tried all the suggestions Apple has listed, Q time settings, updating the sound card driver, etc. to no avail!
The only solution I have found was to convert my itunes library to MP3, and created a play list in Windows Media Player. Every thing is fine, the music plays great. itunes at one time was state of the art, now just junk!
Any help would be most appreciate!
    SONY VAIO   Windows XP

Actually I have the same problem. It's really funny how if I go back to iTunes 6.x I don't have any problems at all, but as soon as 7.01 is installed it does this stuff.
I have Crossfader turned off, Safemode on, lowered the sample rate in Quicktime. I have the newest drivers for my Soundcard, and for Direct X
This is a REAL problem, I use iTunes to listen to the TONS of music that I purchased on the iTunes Music Store while I play World of Warcraft. This stinking total machine freeze totally hoses my game play.
I wish that Apple would look into WHY suddenly it takes a huge amount of System resources to change to another song in this version, when in the previous unbuggy version it took little to no system resources for iTunes to change to another song (and this was with Crossfader and sound Enchancer ON)
Perhaps the new Gapless Playback feature is causing the problem. I would turn it off, but I don't see the control to do so.
It would be nice to see an Apple Rep actually acknowledge a problem with the Windows version of iTunes, and give us a timeframe for when it will be fixed.
