Distribution of CR 2008 - for CR XI R2 - Risk

Hello,
We are about to deploy a release of our software to our customer. The current application is written in VB.net and uses a number of Crystal Reports developed under version XI R2.
We use Click Once to deploy the application.
Our changes use CR 2008. We plan to tell our customer to install CR 2008 on his development machine. Once he does this, will he still be able to make changes and deploy the existing XI R2 application while he tests our changes.
I notice once CR 2008 is installed, you are prompted to upgrade the solution. Exactly what does this do, i know it updates references, does it also convert the XI R2 "rpt" files that ar epart of the solution.
any help would be appreciated.
scott

Hi, Scott;
You can develop with both CR XI R2 and CR 2008 on the same system. But, you should make use of the Visual Studio Integration Manager.
With this tool, you can change the references before running .net, and have the desired version of CR loaded.
See the following:

A report will only be updated to the newer version when the report is changed, but once it is saved as a higher verison, it is not possible to go back.

Jonathan

  • Word 2008 for Mac: Hyperlinks

    I am using Word 2008 for the MAC.  I would prefer to use pages but pages cannot save active hyperlinks as a pdf file.  at least I do not know how to do that.
    I am creating a large document for a genealogical history of many people.  Each person has two separate pages.  One page has basic data.  The other page shows the media available for that person, with hyperlinks to that media in a separate folder.
    I wish to save the document as a pdf file with active hyperlinks.  The media file is unchanged.  Both file and folder will be copied to a DVD for distribution.
    The document is fully populated with hyperlinks.  Some hyperlinks point to bookmarks within the document.  These are no problem.  Some hyperlinks point to files in a separate folder.  These are no problem until I create the pdf file and copy it to a DVD which is the distribution copy of the file.  Now, using the hyperlinks requires the end user have and use a browser.  I would like to eliminate that need for a browser and have the hyperlinks work just as they do on MY computer within Word.
    Can this be done?  And if so how?
    Thanks

    Pages '09 has links to bookmarks, T.O.C., other external Pages documents, URLs and email addresses.
    Pages 5.5.2 has links to T.O.C., URLs and email addresses.
    Both retain the links in either Exported or Printed PDFs. Neither are useful for distribution because they require the recipient have a compatible Pages on a compatible Mac or iOS device, which in the case of Pages 5.2.2 includes only people running Yosemite, so very incompatible.
    Both can have included media such as images, graphics, video and sound but it is not retained in pdfs.
    You can use an exported pdf as the basis of your project. Adding links and media to the pdf using Adobe Acrobat Pro.

    Yes the Enterprise version requires 3.0.  For exploration purposes, you can download 2008 enterprise version and run it standalone on your desktop, you just won't be able to store your dashboards to the BOE repository and you won't have the Query as a Web Service to be able to create queries against a universe for Xclesius ot use.
    After installing, make sur eyou apply Fix Pack 1.3  for it.

  • Office 2008 for Mac: Any advice on where to get it cheaper for a student?

    I am about to go into my Master's Degree at Dallas Theological Seminary and I need to get Office 2008 for Mac. The Apple store recommended me get it at my school but my school's bookstore does not have it and journeyed.com doesn't support DTS. Does anyone know how or where I can get this program for less than $100 with a student discount? I really need to know.

    Remember... Google is your friend.

    Also, be aware that this is a forum for troubleshooting compatibility issues between Mac OS and Windows, and that Microsoft's own forums for their Mac products are the best place to post Office related questions. Good luck...

  • Using ms office 2008 for mac home & student edition with snow leopard serv

    Hi all,
    I have a very particular question.
    I have a new small business starting up and we want to make full use of leopard and snow leopard server in our infrastructure. We also want to use os x for all our client machines.
    We want to use ms office 2008 for mac as our main offfice software but i believe we don't need all the uses or festures of the business edtion and i need to seek good advice and clarity on this.
    We won't ever use any microsoft exchange servers but instead willl use the apple mail servers and all the other apple server services.
    My question is, based on the fact that we will have an all apple mac os x backend and client frontend but want to use the ms office for mac as our business software, and also based on the fact that we wont use the "Build your Brand clip art, Build your skills by lynda.com, the Remote Desktop for mac 2, the Microsoft Exchange Server Support and the Microsoft Windows sharepoint services support, do we really need to go for the business edition? Can we not just use the home and student edition and get the same functionality using everything else apart form what we listed as we wont need these?
    The other question is, the Entourage 2008, Web services Edition, will this work with an apple backend instead of ms exchange server?
    Kind regards and thanks for your wise advice,
    Neil Watson

    Thanks, Kurt--I understand now.
    One reason I was alarmed was that evidently when the tech installed Office 2008, something went awry with either the key installer or the key code, because when I finished the first two updates (12.1 and 12.2), I tried to open Entourage to see if the problem I'd been having was resolved. Instead of opening, Office gave me a message that my product key was invalid!  I did find the product key, and called the tech, who will come by to see what's wrong (he's an honest guy, so I'm sure it's a legitimate error of some kind, not a pirated copy). But the thought of installing two pages of updates and maybe running into the same glitch every time made me blanch.  So I'm glad to know that Microsoft is still doing Service Packs for 2008!

  • Problem when saving a PowerPoint 2008 for Mac file to PDF.

    When I save my PowerPoint 2008 for Mac file as a PDF, the text/font comes out wrong in the PDF -- kind of looks degraded (thinner, darker, more pixilated). I've tried changing the font in the PowerPoint file many times and tried saving it as a PDF both directly and through print -- but each time the text/font doesn't come through correctly in the PDF.  The images/photos in the PowerPoint file all convert to the PDF just fine.  Can anyone help?

  • Word 2008 for Mac and NFS mounted home directories "Save File" issues

    Greetings everyone,
    (Long time lurker, first time poster here)
    I admin a small network (under 20 workstaitons) with a centralized NFS server, with user home directories mounted via NFS upon login.  Users are authenticated via LDAP.  This is all working fine, there is no problem here.  The problem lies when my users use Microsoft Word 2008 for Mac.  When they attempt to save a file to thier Desktop (or Documents or any folder under thier home dir) they are met with the following message:
    (dialog box popup)
    "Word cannot save or create this file.  The disk maybe be full or write-protected.  Try one or more of the following: * Free more memory. * Make sure the disk you want to save the file on is not full, write-protected or damaged. (document-name.ext)"
    This happens regardless of file format (Doc, Docx, Txt) and regardless of saved location under the network mounted dir.  I've noticed that when saving Word creates a .tmp file in the target directory, which only further confuses me to the underlying cause of the issue.
    When users logon to a local machine account and attempt the save, there is no issue.
    I have found many posts in other commuity forums, including this one, indicating that the issue is a .TempoaryItems folder in the root of the mounted directory.  This folder already exists and is populated with entries such as "folder.2112" (where 2112 is the uid of the LDAP user).  I find other posts indicating that this is an issue with Word:2008 and OSX10.8, with finger pointing in either direction, but no real solution.
    I have installed all Office for Mac updates from Microsoft (latest version 12.3.6).
    I have verified permissions of the user's home dir.
    I have also ensured that this issue effects ONLY Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac apps, LibreOffice and other applications have no issue.
    Does *ANYONE* have a solution or workaround for this issue?  While we're trying to phase Microsoft products out, getting users to ditch Word and Excel is difficult without removing them from systems completely.  So any pointers or help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.
    ~k

    I can't tell you how to fix bugs in an obsolete version of Office, but a possible workaround is to use mobile home directories under OS X Server. The home directories are hosted locally and synced with the server.

  • How do I repaginate a PDF document in Word 2008 for Mac?

    I am trying to repaginate a PDF document made in Word 2008 for Mac, which I have uploaded to Scribd for public perusal.  Unfortunately, whatever I do to the settings for the document it always comes out in reverse order. (60 - 1 instead of 1 - 60)
    The problem is not with Scribd, as they just reproduce the document in the order in which it is sent.  Somewhere along the line, the pages are reordered. They are not numbered in the document.

    Hi,
    Try this AppleScript :
    It will create a new PDF file (the name will be "the original Name + _reverse.pdf"), it reverse the pages order.
    Open the "AppleScript Editor" application.
    Copy/paste this text in the window :
    set a_PDF to POSIX path of (choose file with prompt "Select a PDF file to reverse the pages order." without invisibles)
    do shell script "export VERSIONER_PYTHON_PREFER_32_BIT=yes
    /usr/bin/python -c  'import os, sys, Foundation
    from Quartz import *
    this_pdf = CGPDFDocumentCreateWithProvider( CGDataProviderCreateWithFilename( sys.argv[1] ))
    if this_pdf is None:
       print \"Error reading PDF document\"
       sys.exit(1)
    tName, ext = os.path.splitext(sys.argv[1])
    new_file = \"%s_reverse.pdf\" % (tName)
    cfstr = Foundation.CFStringCreateWithCString(None, new_file, Foundation.kCFStringEncodingUTF8)
    url = Foundation.CFURLCreateWithFileSystemPath(None, cfstr, 0, False)
    c = CGPDFContextCreateWithURL(url, CGRectMake (0, 0, 0, 0), None)
    cnt = CGPDFDocumentGetNumberOfPages(this_pdf)
    for page_number in range( cnt + 1, 0, -1):
       page = CGPDFDocumentGetPage(this_pdf, page_number)
       r = CGPDFPageGetBoxRect(page, kCGPDFMediaBox)
       CGContextBeginPage(c, r)
       CGContextDrawPDFPage(c, page)
       CGContextEndPage(c)
    CGPDFContextClose(this_pdf)
    CGPDFContextClose(c)' " & quoted form of a_PDF
    Click on the "Run" button.
    Select your PDF file when the dialog is displayed.

    One way to test is to Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, Test for problem in Safe Mode...
    PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive
    Reboot, test again.
    If it only does it in Regular Boot, then it could be some hardware problem like Video card, (Quartz is turned off in Safe Mode), or Airport, or 3rd party add-on, Check System Preferences>Accounts>Login Items window to see if it or something relevant is listed.
    Check the System Preferences>Other Row, for 3rd party Pref Panes.
    Also look in these if they exist, some are invisible...
    /private/var/run/StartupItems
    /Library/StartupItems
    /System/Library/StartupItems
    /System/Library/LaunchDaemons
    /Library/LaunchDaemons
    Open Console in Applications>Utilities, check the system log for the date/time of the last problem  & next startup for clues.

  • Does Microsoft Entourage 2008 for mac work with the new Mac OS X v 10.7 Lion

    Does Microsoft Entourage 2008 for mac work with the new Mac OS X v 10.7 Lion?
    I am just about to install Lion just need to check to see if if my work e-mail will work

    Sarah,
    Check this link:
    http://roaringapps.com/app:2533
    It contains some issues that people have encountered with Lion and Office 2008. It appears it can work, but you may have to go through some of the steps a few of the posters there have listed.
    That website also contains a pretty large list of applications and if they will work with Lion.
    Hope this helps! (I am not affiliated in any way with the site linked).

  • Word 2008 for Mac - toolbars

    I have upgraded to Word 2008 for Mac - but whenever I open it the toolbars arent there as they used to be in previous versions or on PCs. I cant find a setting to have them there as a default. I have to go to Edit - Toolbars and 'un-tick' the standard toolbar and then 'click' it again - then it stays there - but only for that document and not any others that are open at the same time.
    Does anyone know how to have the toolbar there as a default?
    thanks.

    Arnie C,
    I'm not aware of any toolbar settings under the Edit menu. Are you referring to one under View > Toolbars? You can try deleting the Office & Word .plists from ~/Library/Preferences and then restart. Perhaps that might assist.
    com.microsoft.Word.plist
    com.microsoft.office.plist
    Another thing to add, you've asked this question in the 'display' sub forum which is designed for questions regarding the display/monitor and related hardware issues. You might wish to ask this question via Microsoft's Office for Mac support forums/channels.

  • Cannot Interact with Microsoft Word 2008 for Mac after Opening

    After I open Microsoft Word 2008 for Mac, either by opening a .docx file or opening Word from the Applications folder, I am not able to interact with the application whatsoever.  Selecting its icon in the dock does not bring any of its windows to the front, nor does it show the Word menu at the top; instead, it still shows the menu of whatever application was previously selected.  But the windows do exist if I move other windows out of the way.  If I do get to a Word window, I cannot click on anything, select anything, resize it, close it, or scroll.
    Other info: If I click and hold the Word icon in the doc, the menu displays as if the application were functioning normally; it does not show a Force Quit option, as it would if Word were frozen.  I do not see any dialogue boxes or anything that would take the focus away from the other windows.
    Background: I was able to successfully use Word without any problems before today, using the same installation of the application, same computer, and same operating system. I also never had this problem before Mavericks, though, as I said before, I didn't always have this problem in Mavericks.
    How do I get Word to function normally again?  Thanks for any help you can provide!

    After letting Word run for quite a while, a popup window told me there was an issue with the database.  I opened the Microsoft Database Utility and rebuilt the database.  It seems to be working fine now.
