Distribution of Management Packs for Agents

Hello
Can someone please help me with the following question?
I have been watching some of Brian video’s on Authoring and one thing he says make sense and does not make sense at the same time.
1: Install the Management Pack (MP) via the console on the Management Server (MS)
2: The MP will get delivered to agents whose host (Windows Computer, SQL DB Engine or whatever) has an at least one instance of the target class.
New let’s look at two scenarios. Fresh Agent install and remove Health State Folder restart Agent.
Now let’s assume you have a single MP which contains a single Monitor targeted at a custom class (whose class definition and discovery are in separate management packs, so you have potentially
three MPs)
Now you install an agent on a computer for the very first time (never had an agent on this computer before)
First of all as far as I understand SCOM itself does not know which MP is which in so far is it does not know or understand you have broken down your MP into say three MPs (Library for classes
and relationships, Discoveries for discoveries and Monitors for monitors) these MP have relationships to each other but apart from that SCOM does not know that an particular MP only deals with discoveries (or does it).
If the above is correct then when this agent starts up on the new computer it will contact the MS for configuration information and next MPs. So SCOM has no recorded of this computer (apart
from the fact is has just been added the  MG) and therefore no information on previous discoveries and thereby what classed do or do not exist on the computer in question. As such I am assuming the agent will download ALL MPs. Run the discoveries,
send info back to MS/database in order to make instances of classes and relationships, pertaining to this agent (e.g. its GUID)
Therefore it is true to say on a newly installed Agent ALL MPs get downloaded regardless? Or does SCOM somehow know which MP's contain discoveries and only send these to start with?
Leading on from the above what about when you stop the agent and deleted the Health State Folder (you see all the 2110 events 'received MP xxx'). Now in the scenario the SCOM DB knows which
class instances and their properties (if defined) existed on the computer the agent is responsible for prior to the agent restart.
Therefore will it now say as you do not have an instance of class XYZ I will not send you the MP who's monitor is targets at XYZ.
However if this is the case it brings us back to the issue/question the 'application or whatever which denotes an instance of XYZ' could be installed at a later date and therefore the 'discovery'
will need to run on said host (if host is capable of hosting app XYZ at some point e.g. right version of windows OS etc.) in which case the MP with the monitor would then need to be sent to the agent. This then brings me to the first question above, I do not
believe (correct me if wrong please) that SCOM knows which MP only contains Discoveries and which only Monitors, so one would assume when you delete the Health State Folder on an agent the result is ALL MP get downloaded again by the agent.
Can someone please clear this up for me, I would be very grateful; perhaps someone from Microsoft looking at the forum as I would like a definitive answer please as misunderstanding this element
will lead to misunderstanding further up the stack as it were.
Thanks All

The Agent doesn't request MPs, it requests for Configuration. So look at configuration flow as workflows(rules/monitors/discoveries/agent tasks) that should be running on an agent.
If there is ONE rule in an MP that should run on  an agent, and the rest say 50 do not , the MP would still have to be sent.
On the server side, the configuration service builds the management group topology. It keeps an account of all objects, their relationships.
When an Mp is imported in SCOM, it's elements : Library section (Modules/monitor types) classes, relationships , and all workflows (rules, monitors, tasks, discoveries) are stored in different tables.
Now here is how the flow works.
Agent is installed, Agent and windows computer objects are created initially.
Config service finds a list of all workflows that are targeted at these 2 classes. MPs containing these workflows are sent and those workflows execute(after overrides are set if any).
If discoveries run and detect objects of any other classes, those objects are populated and MG topology is rebuilt.
Example: Logical disks, Windows Server Object
Now config service understand that a few more workflows that are targeted to the classes of the newly discovered objects are to be run, those MPs are sent.
Example, MPs containing disk space monitors, or SQL discoveries that are targeted at windows server class.
and this goes on till the last possible object is discovered. That's when the MP download will stop.
So you may have 10 Mps, then another 7 Mps, then another 10 Mps flowing based on what gets discovered each time new discoveries are downloaded. it will eventually settle down and the agent will have in this case 27 Mps.
You can see this by filtering for 1201 events on the agent. They will get downloaded in phases, as per the new config after fresh discoveries.
Now, to answer your question on clearing healthservice state folder.
Since clearing the folder does not delete already discovered Objects in the DB, when you clear the cache, ALL MPs that are supposed to be on the agent will get downloaded in ONE GO (all 27) because the configuration is already in place , (if the discoveries
were all done and the agent discovered objects were stable when you renamed the folder.)
Hope this brings some clarity. if you have any further questions let me know.

No management pack for MPSeal. Management packs are sealed by using the MPSeal tool that is located in the SupportTools folder of the Operations Manager 2007 R2 distribution media. This is a command-line tool that creates a sealed .mp file from an unsealed
.xml file. After performing the sealing process, you can install the sealed management pack in your management group.
For Seal Management pack, you can check below link

  • UCS management pack for SCOM

I've installed the UCS management pack for Microsoft SCOM 2007 R2. It appears to be working, however I now keep seeing all computers that have the SCOM agent installed trying to run the cisco.ucs.computer.probeaction.vbs script, which fails and generates alerts. Does anyone know why these servers that are unrelated to UCS would be trying to run these scripts, or how to fix this problem?

The Problem is that you use an “&” string in a name of one of the protection Groups.
Change the name of the protection Group where you have used an “&” symbol
. Restart the “System Center Management” and you should see that the discovery success.
If still have same issue, started to register the differtent dll’s again on the machine and apparently registering the MOMScriptAPI.dll

  • [Blog] Using VMware vROPs to monitor Oracle Database and WebLogic.  Management Pack for Oracle EM, Hyperic Plugins, or Both?

This blog post provides a suggested methodology for helping users of VMware vROps/vCOps decide which of the existing solutions, the vROps Management Pack for Oracle EM and the VMware vROps Hyperic Plugins for Oracle, should be used to monitor their Oracle workloads.
It’s been a nearly a year since VMware transferred the vCOps Adapter for Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM) to Blue Medora and since that transfer Blue Medora has released a number of major updates as well as rebranded it the Blue Medora vROps Management Pack for Oracle EM. Over that same period of time VMware has continued to evolve their Oracle-focused (Oracle Database and WebLogic J2EE) Hyperic agent-based plugins culminating most recently with a October 2014 update to the Oracle Database plugin that provides support for Oracle Database 12c.

    Oracle Configuration Management Pack
    Oracle Data Masking Pack

As far as I could understand, this is a part of Oracle EM/Grid installation:
The sections that follow describe the Oracle management packs. The management packs can be purchased only with Enterprise Edition. The features in these packs are accessible through Oracle Enterprise Manager Database Control, Oracle Enterprise Manager Grid Control, and APIs provided with Oracle Database software.

  • UCS Management Pack for System Center 2012 OpsMgr add monitor wizard error

We're successfully using the 2.6.0.179 version of the UCS Management Pack for System Center 2012 Operations Manager in our 2012 SP1 OpsMgr environment; however, in the new 2012 R2 OpsMgr environment we've stood-up and in which we installed the 2.6.2.0 version of the UCS MP, we're getting an error when trying to run the Add Monitoring Wizard under the Management Pack Templates node of the Authoring pane. We get the same error from the 2.6.1.0 version of the UCS MP as well. The text of the error is as follows:
"The page [Cisco.UCS.MP.UI.Proxy.Template.Page.ProxyDetailsPage] in the assembly [Cisco.UCS.MP.UI.Culture="",PublicKeyToken="6c96076cdf2c87a",Version="2.6.0.0"] could not be loaded. Please make sure that the account you are running under has sufficient privileges to load the given assembly, or the management pack that defines this page is installed or the assembly containing the page is in the path of the executible or that the page derives from known Operations Manager page type."
I'm an admin user in OpsMgr, so this should not be a user privilege issue, and that leaves the MP itself. The fact that a 2.6.0.0 version is mentioned makes me wonder if the base version of the MP must be installed before the 2.6.2 version. I'd test this, but we no longer have that version, and its no longer available for download from Cisco that I can see.
Has any dealt with this issue successfully, or have any insight into the problem?

Solved...the requirement is that you must do the MP configuration from the SCOM console on the SCOM Management Server where you installed the Cisco UCS MP; you can't do it from a SCOM console on a remote computer like I was trying to do.

  • Management Pack for Windows Server 2008 Enterprise SP1

    Hello,
I tried to manage the performance of a Windows Server 2008 Enterprise SP1 (6.0.6001) but SCOM 2007 R2 just check the availability with a ping status.
I have installed the normal management packs:
On the same SCOM, I have servers with Windows Server 2008 R2 and they work perfect.
    What can I do?

    Hi Journey Tinoco,
Performance can be monitored by using the active alerts TAB where a alert / alerts will be triggered based on the default management pack which you have installed / imported or if you have created a custom monitor based on your preference on what performance
counter you want to monitor on windows server 2008 servers VIA SCOM.
Or you can pull server performance report specific for Windows server 2008 from the reporting TAB as per the below screen shot for details.
The one which you are opened is the health explorer view which is not showing much details.
Go to reporting TAB ===> Select Windows server 2008 operating system monitoring and then What ever appropriate report you need to pull based on your requirement. For example i have pulled a report below for "Operating system performance.
Over here Click object and select the computer name and the icon should be a Windows serve / Computer as per the icon in my screen shot below. Select the time and date from and to the report you want and dont touch the add object option. Once done click
the Run button on the left to you will get the report as below.
Please note: If the below report is what you are looking for is not available in your SCOM's  reporting TAB. Then you have not installed the reporting Management pack for Windows server 2008 monitoring. Download
    it from the below link.

    Hope this helps you.

  • Management Pack for Server 2008 OS Monitoring version 6.0.7296 cannot be installed or downloaded from the catalog

In our newly installed Operations Manager I'm trying to install the MP's for monitoring Windows Server 2008 OS through the catalog option. Every attempt (including downloading it through the OpsMgr console) fails with the following error:
Windows Server 2008 Operating System (Monitoring) did not pass the security verification.
The management pack cannot be downloaded and the temporary file has been deleted.
Could not load management pack [ID=Microsoft.Windows.Server.2008.Monitoring, Keytoken=31bf3856ad364e35, Version=6.0.7296].
This includes the required packs: "Windows Server Operating System Library v6.0.7296" and "Windows Server 2008 Operating System (Discovery) v6.0.7296".
The only option I found was downloading it directly from the website http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=9296 but I'm a bit anxious if it can't be downloaded from the catalog. Is this pack revoked? Or could there be something wrong
in our environment that prevents us from downloading it from the catalog?

I have the exact same issue - and when I select to download from the catalog, I get an error that the security certificate cannot be verified. I checked it, and it is valid till 2016, so I selected continue and then it works normally. however I do get the
    same list of errors.
The normal "manual" download is available, and if it was pulled by MS, they would block the download button there too ?
I downloaded the MP manually and installed it without any issues. same for the sharepoint 2010 MP 14.0.7135.5000 mp. installing via the catalog failed while the manual download was available and works OK.
(and the weird thing is - I downloaded / installed a few other updates via the catalog fine....)
