DNG 4.2 and Canon G9 raw CR2 problem

I have been unsuccesful getting the 4.2 DNG to convert the CR2 Canon G9 files, getting an error message that the file type is not supported. Running Windows XP Home. Any ideas as to how I can fix this. Thanks, Jeff

I just helped my friend with the Canon G9 Raw file won't open and recognized on Mac Computer.
Problem when try to open or drag the Raw image (*.CR2 File), I got an error message says the file type is either not supported or corrupted, also the file in the browser are all grayed out, means can't click & select & open. So I re-install the software just to make sure the software is fine.
The software comes with the camera is easy to install, here is the thing I was stumbled but figured it out.
1. Use browser to find the raw file.
2. click to select the file
3. go to Menu Bar under "File" there is a section you'll see "Process Raw File" or something like that, then you are done, from there you can edit and open a Raw file.
My impression towards to the raw image quality and canon software: The software interface is not as nice compare to PS Element 4 Raw Plug-in, especially there is not button for "Processing Raw" on the browser window that you have to go to File >.. , I hope this is just for Mac users or I have to say the software is silly.

  • PSE 12 and Canon 70d raw CR2 files

I have a new Canon 70d which came bundled with PSE 11, but PSE11 doesn't support the CR2 raw without converting to DNG. and then there are no thumbnails, which makes file handling a pain. Does PSE12 have support for the 70d CR2 files, and does it show the thubnails for either the CR2 or the converted DNG files?

I have updated these instructions for using ACR 8.3 in PSE12:
ACR 8.3 will work with PSE12 to open 70D files, but there is no installer, yet if ever, so you have to be a little devious to get things to all work.  You also need to be on a Windows 7 or 8 since ACR 8.3 supposedly doesn't work on Vista or XP.  I should also say that the process outlined below does work on my Windows 7 64-bit computer, but I also have PS-CS6 and PS-CC installed on it, so it is possible that ACR 8.3 is dependent on something that wouldn't exist on a computer with only PSE installed on it, but someone else will have to confirm that.
I was able to get 70D files to open in ACR 8.3 on PSE12 by doing the following:
Download the ACR 8.3 for Windows update for PS-CC via the direct download link on the Adobe Blog:
    http://blogs.adobe.com/crawlspace/2011/03/keeping-photoshop-up-to-date.html#notconnected
Unzip this downloaded setup.zip to a folder somewhere.
Inside the files from that zip is a folder called payloads \ AdobeCameraRaw8.0All-031213015928.  Note that this is the folder without x64 in the path.  PSE12 is a 32-bit program so we need the 32-bit version of the plug-in.
Inside that folder is another ZIP called Assets1_1.zip so unzip it somewhere.
Inside Assets1_1.zip there is a file called 1003.  This is the largest file in that zip and is the plug-in you need.
Copy this 1003 file into the existing PSE12 camera raw plug-in folder:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\Elements 12\File Formats or for a 32-bit Windows OS, into:  C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\Elements 12\File Formats
Rename the existing Camera Raw.8bi to Camera Raw_8bi_80 (in case something doesn't work and you need to rename it back, later).
    Rename 1003 to Camera Raw.8bi
After these steps you have the ACR 8.3 plug-in installed in PSE12 but not the camera and lens profiles, so install those by downloading and installing the DNG Converter 8.3:

    Hi Zach.
Sorry to say but Elements 12 came out several months before your camera. Adobe stops updating camera raw files for old software editions so that people have to buy new versions of the software when they get a new camera. It happened to me with LR3 when I got a new camera.
There are works rounds but they are a lot of extra steps and I think you would be converting the files to Some format other than RAW (tiff?) and which I am not sure will perform the same.
I think you just need to get a newer version of Elements.

  • Import screen cannot enlarge preview thumbnail from Canon G15 raw CR2 file

Lightroom 4.3 import screen does not seem to be able to enlarge for better viewing  the preview thumbnail from a Canon G15 raw CR2 file?

    HI,
I do not know the answer, but I would expect, that Lr only displays the embeded jpeg preview of your raw files. And I think, that the previews are small. You can use exiftool , exiftoolgui to see what's the dimension of your previews.

No. You need to upgrade your software. ACR 6.3 requires PSE 9 or CS4/ CS5 products. Check this: Camera Raw plug-in | Supported cameras

  • CS5.5 and Canon 6D RAW files

I got CS5.5 and now I bought Canon 6D but although updated Camera Raw does not support Canon 6D RAW files (CR2). What is the problem?

The 6D is not supported until ACR 7.3 so you need to upgrade your Photoshop to CS6 or CC or use the current version of the free DNG Converter to convert your images to DNGs, first.

    Hello Guys,
I have a Canon 450D and I was really surprised that my RAW files (*.CR2) were displayed on Microsoft OneDrive without making a JPG files.
    That's really cool !
Few weeks ago I receive my new Canon 70D.
I have upload my RAW files (*.CR2 also) on OneDrive and the file is not displayed.
To make it easy, you will find both files here :
    http://1drv.ms/1qvndZW
I all ready ask support on their forum : Here
But they ask me to ask you...
By any chance, has Canon changed their .CR2 files format that would explain Microsoft has to update their "Convertor" ?
Thanks in advance for your time !

Camera RAW is more of a "concept" than a specific standard.   The idea behind a RAW file is that the data unloaded from the chip will not be altered in any way which results in a loss of original data.
JPEG images use a "lossy" compression algorithm which will normalize data when differences are so subtle that your eye probably would not have noticed the difference.  But when images are adjusted, subtle differences may be "stretched" and the loss of the original data can be detrimental to ability to adjust the image later and still get good results.
BUT... since every camera can have a difference sensor, different resolutions, etc. the method needed to decode a RAW file and display the image can be different literally on a model-by-model basis.  When you work with RAW files, you always need the codec specific to that very camera model.... not just "any" .CR2 codec will work.  This is the same with all other brands of cameras as well.
Microsoft does not include camera RAW updates in the default OS updates that you may be applying to your computer on a regular basis (Apple does... every couple of months I get a camera RAW update and if I read the notes, it'll have a list of new camera models on the market for which they've added RAW support.)    But Microsoft DOES make the RAW updates available... they're just not automatic.  You have to go download and install them.
See this link at the Microsoft support website:  http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2899189
If you look down the page on that specific link, you'll notice a whole list of cameras for which they've added RAW support and the Canon 70D is among them.

  • Canon 40D RAW (CR2) Files import

I've Photoshop and Aperture. Cannot install Elements which would be my preference - so help needed here.
Also - I use iPhoto mostly in the latest Apple OS, yet I cannot import Canon 40D RAW files. I get an error message saying they could not be imported - import failed.
    Help please.
    Freshacre

    Freshacre:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. What version of PS Elements are you trying to install? I've installed the PSE 6 demo without any problem.
What type of files are you trying to import and from where?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • DNG Converter 5.6 and Canon S90 RAW Images

This has been an ongoing query with the Adobe Customer Support Centre since November 12 last year. Refer case no #0181279281. Although the documentation that accompanies DNG 5.6 states that the Canon S90 is a supported camera, the converted images come out far too saturated and are not usable. Has anyone been able to rectify this problem? I use Photoshop CS3.

    Rob_Minter wrote:
…if I upgrade to ACR 5.6, will the image look the same (on my monitor) as when it is opened in ACR 4.6?
    Rob,
Well, for starters, you cannot open the CR2 in ACR 4.6 directly.  You know that, of course, otherwise you wouldn't have to mess with the DNG Converter in the first place.
If you use ACR 5.6 and if you have correctly installed the additional camera profiles that will get added to ACR 5.6 once you correctly install the DNG Converter 5.6, you will have a variety of choices to open your CR2 file or a DNG derived from that file.  Even the "Adobe Standard" profile for your particular will most likely improve the rendition, but you can choose the "Camera Faithful" or any of the other five profiles specifically provided for your camera model.
Note that the screen shot is a medium-resolution JPEG only.
This ACR rendition was generated in ACR 5.6 with the "Adobe Standard" profile
and an Exposure correction of +1.45.
Also note that only the profiles for the specific camera that generated the raw file will show in the profile menu of the Camera Calibration tab at any given time.  Other cameras will cause that profile menu to show different profiles.  In actuality, the installation of the DNG Converter adds a gazillion profiles for all supported cameras, so it's a good thing that only the camera-model-specific ones show.
This ACR rendition was generated in ACR 5.6 with the "Camera Faithful" profile
and an Exposure correction of +1.45.
The rendition of the image will be different with each of the profiles (as you can see above), but even so, I doubt any of those profiles will match the rendition of the totally obsolete ACR 4.6.  The ACR 5.6 rendition is bound to be better.
Each new version of ACR includes improvements, enhancement and bug fixes that are not publicized or even admitted.
If you have mastered the use of ACR, you can match the rendition of just about any raw converter and any other profile, especially if you calibrate your camera, which is extremely easy to do in ACR 5.6.  You can save as many presets as you want.
That's why I strongly recommend Jeff Schewe's book.  As far as I'm concerned, it's required reading.
Finally, there are many other reasons to upgrade to ACR 5.6, like the spot Adjustment Brush and the Targeted Adjustment Tool (TAT).
Don't take my word for it, download the CS4 trial version and update that to ACR 5.6 (it comes with 5.0, also very obsolete).  You can keep different versions of Photoshop on your disk.  On the Mac, you can even run different versions simultaneously by launching the older version(s) first.
Uninstalling CS4, though, may mangle your CS3 install, so keep that in mind.  My feeling is, though, that once you use CS4, you won't ant to look back at CS3.  DISCLAIMER:  I have no connection to Adobe whatsoever.
I cannot speak to Lightroom because I do not use it, for a number of reasons that are not relevant to your issue.
    Respectfully,

  • I am having trouble importing canon camera raw cr2

could not import RAW files from card reader i am useing a canon 50D and it produces CR@ files.
is iPhoto unable to process canon raw?

The Raw from very model of camera - that's model, not make - is different. The Cr2 your 50D produces is not the same as a CR2 from a 40D.
So, yes, iPhoto is able to process Canon Raws from supported cameras.
Your 50D is supported by 10.6 and iPhoto 11. Did you get any error messages when you tried to import?

  • Aperture and Canon 40D RAW

When will Aperture support RAW from my Canon 40D?
In the meantime how should I handle my RAW images? Can I import them into Aperture now with metadata attached and when the support is there all my photos and metadata will appear?
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

The first question has been asked many times in the last 4 weeks and there's no answer. Ask more and Apple will lock this thread.
Second question. If you shoot RAW only, Aperture will import the file, and you won't be able to see it or work with it. You can export it to use Canon's DPP, Photoshop or other available converter to process it, save it to TIFF or JPEG, and then reimport to Aperture for now.
If you shoot RAW and JPEG, Aperture will import both files, but it's not apparent where the JPG file is. Control-click or right-click the grey square thumbnail or the reddish main window, and click "New Version from Master JPEG" to reveal the full-resolution JPEG image the camera took.
When OSX starts supporting 40D in the future, those RAW files will automatically be shown inside Aperture.

  • Aperture and Canon 5dMark11 Raw

I used my new 5d recently and used the combo sRAW1 and JPEG to be imported to Aperture (latest version). It seems Aperture only works with full RAW and not the other RAWs on the Canon. I called Canon but they only suggested importing using their supplied software DPP. It works but I'd like to know about Aperture.
Any thoughts on this being so or am I missing something?
    Thanks,
    John

Most if not all third-party raw convertor programs will only work with the full raw file from a dslr. They won't work on the sub-variations like sRAW. For that, as Canon said, you have to go to their software. IOW, if you stray from the full raw format you have to go to you the camera manufacturer's software.

  • Canon 400d +raw(cr2) import(aperture 1.5)

    hello,
i bought the new canon 400d a few days ago. i updated to aperture 1.5 a few minutes ago. does anyone now whats wrong with cr2-raw-images? aperture is telling me, that cr2 is not a supported format. (lightroom does cr2 by the way)
    thx

I own a new XTi also. OS 10.4.8 does not yet support that camera's RAW files. CR2 files may have the same extensions but they are different for each different sensor. The 400d/XTi has a different sensor than the XT/350d. Unfortunately, the timing of Canon's release must have been after Apple had finalized the RAW camera updates for the recent update.
The RAW file support on Macs is at the OS level, not within Aperture or iPhoto. Therefore, it doesn't matter whether you have Aperture 1.1 or 1.5. Hopefully, Canon will get Apple to update soon or someone will write a hack that provides the translation.
Kind of stinks at this point. The Nikon D80 folks are in the same situation. How Lightroom has it this soon beats me.

  • Photoshop elements and Canon 6D raw

Can i use PSE 10 and the raw files from my 6D, or is it still not possible?

Having invested in a full frame camera you may wish to take a look at Lightroom 4 which has all the same raw tools as CS6, in a very intuitive interface. The Lightroom library is very similar to organizer but much more powerful. LR4 will pair very well with PSE10, set up as the LR external editor.
