Do all of Yosemite's new features require Handoff to work?

I have a late 2008 MacBook and I just upgraded to Yosemite and iOS 8 on my iPhone 5s. I read that Handoff doesn't work on MacBook's later than 2012, which wasn't a big deal. I did want to use the messaging SMS and making calls from my MacBook, howevever, but it looks like that requires Handoff to work? Is this true?

Is there any fix to this, though? I had a perfectly fine template for my newsletter, and trying to get it to work with Yosemite is a nightmare. OK, end of complaint. Is it possible to get text to follow onto the next page? That's my immediate problem. Also, I am saving constantly, but if I make one little change to a page, it seems to screw things up several pages away - I want those pages to stay the way they were. Deadline approaching!

  • [New Feature Requirement][iOS] StageText selectRange feature

Here is the feature request: Feature#3802934 - [New Feature Requirement][iOS] StageText selectRange feature
We need feature to select range in StageText field in iOS like with setSelection TextField method:
    TextField - Adobe ActionScript® 3 (AS3 ) API Reference
Now it's doesn't work for one line StageText field:
    StageText - Adobe ActionScript® 3 (AS3 ) API Reference
It said: "On iOS, for non-multiline StageText objects, this function is not supported and always returns -1. If you call this method selecting the complete text string, the selection is visible. However, if you call this method selecting a subset of the text string, the selection is not visible."
But it doesn't work even I try to selecting complete text string. Tested with iPad 4.
I'd like to ask everyone who interested in it to take a minute and vote for implementing this feature.
    Thanks.

It could be.   I know that Last.fm recently released an iOS app that allowed you to play all your iTunes Match music from their app and it would scrobble the plays to thier service.
My Audi reads my iTunes Match library and will stream any song thru the car system.  I'm sure since Sonos can see what's on an iDevice locally and play that music, and Last.fm can see all iTunes match music that Sonos should be able to read the larger library and stream whats requested to play - only time will tell.

  • Is there a desktop touch screen I can purchase that will fully implement all of Lion's new features?

Was wondering if anyone could recommend a desktop (permanent) touch screen that would be able to take advantage of all of Lion's new features (gestures most importantly)
I am in health care and would like to connect my Mac Book air to the touch screen and then mount the touch screen on the wall of my exam room.  Thanks.

    any help!?

  • Any 9i new features require any system administration permission

For developers to take advantage of the any Oracle 9i new features is it necessary for them to require Administrator privileges at the Operating System level?

    Delia,
Could you provide some details? Are you talking about Oracle9i Database or Application Server. What kind of new features?
As a developer, typically you would use a development tool (such as Oracle9i JDeveloper) running on a PC and connect to the Oracle9i Database and Application Server running in the backend. For that kind of scenario, you would not need any OS level administrative privileges.

  • 1.1: New features, but does it work better? (XP)

Sorry if this has been covered, but I've out the last week.
I've installed 1.1 on XP, but it doesn't seem any faster? Am I missing something? Is it more stable?
    thoughts?
    Thanks!
    Reid

I only have a couple of hours fiddling with it but 1.1 is a little faster browsing through thumbnails and previews on my XP machine and about the same everywhere else. Still way too slow for my taste but it is a neat program overall. It ran acceptably fast when I only loaded 1,100 images into the database, but it slowed down considerably when I added another 10K images. The program is less stable for me. Never had any stability issues with 1.0 but 1.1 gives me some out of memory errors (I have 4GB RAM) and it occasionally hangs up requiring a restart.
I may split my images up into smaller databases to get faster performance but that will cost me global search which I really like.
Also I rendered 1:1 previews for all 11k of my images. My database folder is now 21.5GB, including the previews!! That seem ridiculously huge to me. What will it look like when I have 200K images?

    Hello,
Versions 3.1.1 and 3.1.2 are actually patched version of APEX 3.1. As such, they don’t introduce new features, but mainly fix bugs from the main release. If you want to learn specific details about these versions, you should read the readme file attached to the patch set files (on metalink).
It’s always best to work with the latest patched version, as it reduces your chances to encounter bugs. In general, so far the new APEX versions added many new features and technologies, while maintaining backward compatibility, so existing applications functionality is not impaired. Personally, I don’t see any reason not to upgrade and use the latest version, certainly when you are comparing 3.1 to 3.1.2.
    Regards,
    Arie.

  • What SIM card capacity does the new iPad require (64K or 128K)?

I brought a new iPad (4G+wifi) to my parents to replace their old laptop, I am trying to get them a micro-sim. Since they are not in Australia, I am not quite sure which capacity of sim card does the new iPad require (my one working pretty good with Optus). 64K is the most comment one in their country, therefore I am not sure which one should I purchase. If would be really greatful if anyone has an answer for that! Thanks in advance

The iPad comes with 16, 32, or 64 GB of storage. Perhaps that is what you are referring to. The sim card has no storage so amount of "K" is meaningless. Sim cards have the single purpose of connecting to your provider's network.
Perhaps you are referring to phone sim cards that can store contact numbers. I think these have 64K or 128K storage capacity on the sim card.

  • New iLife summary doesn't work

    Hi Folks,
most likely a stupid question, but here we go....when I try to see what the new iPhoto and iMovie offers, this simply by clicking on the options on the homepages www.apple.com, I do not get anywhere. All which happens is the Quicktime sign with a white questionmark over it....all other stuff works....
any idea what the prob is....?
    Many thanks
    Lenochka

thanks for the tip.....although it does not work. I tried in Safari as well as Firefox, which I normally use. No can do...it just does not appear.
Tried the Keynote..works in HD...but not in the regular format. It says "Live Broadcase - Paused" but then gets stucked....
the HD Version works and Quicktime starts properly....also the ads with the windows chap over Christmas worked fine..other stuff too.....but now I do not get these new feature video/demo to work......
any other suggestions most welcome !!
    Cheers

  • I do not see ANY of the new features claimed for Firefox 4, and moving the home button all the way to the right is very inconvenient. So what's so great?

I have used (and liked) Firefox from the first time it was offered. I
typically upgrade to newer versions as they come out. Sometimes
the newer version doesn't differ markedly from the previous one, but, until now, they were not usually a step backward. Upon installing Firefox 4 the welcome page indicated several new features. Specifically an app bar, and a bookmark button next to the home button. However neither of these features are on my copy of the program. Frankly, the only change that I see is the new position of the home button; and I don't like it. Moving the home button all the way across the page from the other commonly used buttons makes absolutely no sense to me, especially if the touted bookmark button doesn't exist. The new speed, if it continues, is nice, but other than that I see no real improvement over Firefox 3. So what's so great?

The new interface is only default on Windows Vista and Windows 7. To get it on Windows XP you need to hide the menu bar. To do that in the View menu select Toolbars, then click on the "Menu Bar" entry.
If you need access to the menus you can press either Alt or F10 to temporarily display them.
You can rearrange the buttons and place them where you want, for details on how to do that see https://support.mozilla.com/kb/how-do-i-customize-toolbars

  • Where are the all-new features for China?

    Hello.
I just upgraded from 10.7 to 10.8 and while going through the feature list I wanted to look more closely at the all-new features for China. However, it looks like most them are not there.
OS X Mountain Lion brings all-new support for many popular Chinese features and services. The dictionary app now includes the Standard Dictionary of Contemporary Chinese. Improved text input makes typing in Chinese easier, faster, and more accurate. With eight new fonts, your writing can appear formal, informal, or fun. Mail works with QQ, 163, and 126. Baidu, the leading Chinese search provider, is a built-in option in Safari. Now you can post to the web right from the app you’re in. Post videos with Youku and Tudou. Post to Sina Weibo, the popular microblogging service. And share easier than ever. All these new services are easy to set up on your Mac.
I've not been able to find anything about the new services that OS X integrates with. For example, in Safari I can only choose between Google, Yahoo and Bing. In QuickTime Player I can only upload to YouTube and Vimeo, and the only microblogging service I can add is Twitter.

Is it impossible to use the those features without making the computer chinese?
I forgot, yes, you can you can always add an account for a specific service in the Messages, Calendars & Contacts Preferences pane.

  • My ios update did not load to my iPhone completely. I have some of the new features but not all of them.

I have some of the features but not all of them. It seems that the download did not complete.

Where are you looking for Siri voice selection? It should be in Settings/General/Siri. You must also choose a language that has a choice of voices. US English and Canadian English do, UK and Australian do not.
What do you see in Settings/Wallpapers & Brightness? You need to tap one of the 2 images to see the selections available.
As I said, it is impossible that the installation is incomplete; you just aren't finding the new features. If you want to reinstall anyway, upgrade iTunes on your computer to 11.1, then connect the phone using a USB cable directly to the computer (not a hub), click on the iPhone's name in iTunes, then click the Restore iPhone button.

  • With All These New Feature Packs........

With all the new feature packs that have been introduced here is a list of features that i would like to see introduced also.....
    1. A password protected folder for all media files as well as document files
    2. Better use of the gallery/albums....if an image is stored in the albums folder it shouldnt also appear (still) in the gallery section
    3. Instead of all images being shown in the gallery irrespective of them being stored on the phone memory or memory card, users should be able to "switch" between images on phone, images on memory....only the albums folder should show images irrespective.(this feature was on previous S60 models)
4.dual sim card slots....i have two sims one for personal and one for business sometimes its a bit annoying having to take the battery out etc. to switch sims.Plus while i have my business sim in i could miss a personal call and vice verce
5.Bluetooth AD2P becoming a standard on higher end phones
6.Text to speech becoming a standard on (higher end/all) phones
7.settings in the camera should not return to default after the application is closed...if i set my camera settings for "night mode" and close the camera application when i return to "night mode" my settings should still be there rather than me having to do this all over everytime.
this is what i have come up with please add constructive ideas here.....

I really like the idea of the dual sim and the gallery being split to the mem c\rd and phone mem.
