Do EJB's have to be debugged remotely?

Do EJB's have to be debugged remotely?

You can debug EJBs locally in the IDE as well.
Place breakpoint in the bean class of the EJB
Select EJB node in the project.
Right mouse and Select Debug.
Right mouse on EJB and generate sample client.
Choose Embedded OC4J Server option.
Modify client as appropriate.
Place breakpoint in the client code.
Right mouse on the client and select debug.
Now you can step into the client and server (EJB) code.
Note: You can also debug EJBs deployed on remote appservers.

  • Does mapping to JNDI for ejb-refs have a performance impact?

    Does mapping to JNDI names for ejb-refs have a performance impact for
    WLS6.1?
    In the ejb-jar.xml deployment descriptor, you can define an ejb reference as
    follows:
    <ejb-ref>
    <ejb-ref-name>ejb/AccountHomeRemote</ejb-ref-name>
    <ejb-ref-type>Entity</ejb-ref-type>
    <home>com.package structure.AccountHomeRemote</home>
    <remote>com.package structure.AccountRemote</remote>
    <!-- <ejb-link>AccountBean</ejb-link>-->
    </ejb-ref>
    Now, optionally, you can use the ejb-link element - or - you can, in the
    weblogic DD, specify a JNDI name that the ejb-ref maps to.
    Using a JNDI name buys you some flexibility. If, for some reason, the jar is
    divided, you dont have to convert ejb-link's to JNDI names. The question is:
    Is there a performance cost in doing this?

    Hi Aashish,
    Thanks for your quick reply. it was helpful, but i am not using RFC's. Correct me if i am wrong, but i have explained the scenarios in detail below.
    Scenario 1. Synchronous
    1) PI Picks file from a common folder.
    2) PI does a data mapping and sends the data to ECC.
    3) ECC contains an inbound interface which receives the data and in which abap proxy code is written.
    4) The abap proxy code executes a function module and sends the response as an internal table back to PI.
    5) PI receives the response and places it in a text/csv file and places it back to another folder.
    I assume that the above would be possible only using BPM. What i understand is that in order for an interface to receive and send data, abstract mappings are to be used, and for this BPM is required. We do not have any conversions etc. its just a simple matter of receiving an internal table from ECC and creating a file to place in the folder.
    I also understand that BPM could have bottlenecks due to queue and cache issues, messages might be pending, or lost etc.
    Scenario 2. Asynchronous
    1) PI Picks file from a common folder.
    2) PI does a data mapping and sends the data to ECC.
    3) ECC contains an inbound interface which receives the data and in which abap proxy code is written.
    4) ABAP Proxy code executes the same function module and calls a seperate outbound interface and passes the values to it. This would be used in sending the response back.
    5)  PI receives the response from the second interface and places it in a text/csv file and places it back to another folder.
    I would like to know which would be the better approach. Documentation/references to support your claims would be much appreciated.
    Cheers,
    Mz

    I have lost the original remote for my Apple TV. I went to install it at my fiancés house, and cannot use the remote app on my ipad or iPhone. Can I still control the Apple TV with the apps?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
    Your Apple TV may have become paired with another remote. Hold the remote close to and pointed at the Apple TV, hold down the menu and Rewind buttons together for 6 seconds or until you see a broken chain icon on screen.

  • How can I notify staff of updated data if they do not have access to the remote data?

    We have a shortcoming on one of our major programs that will not be fixed for at least one year. I want to create a notice for staff when there are pending requests for local offices. I am using a remote view to check if there are new requests from
    local offices:
    SELECT xxx_yyyyy_request_queue.COMMENTS;
    FROM xxx_yyyyy_REQUEST_QUEUE xxx_yyyyy_request_queue;
    WHERE xxx_yyyyy_request_queue.MODIFIED_BY IS NULL
    I use the remote view as the data source for a table and have a small window that stays on top that I can see if there is an order. I trigger the remote view using a timer event.
    This is fine as a stop-gap. However, I cannot run this on the machines of the staff that need the notice: they do not have the correct version of Oracle, they do not have access to that remote data, we do not want multiple machines triggering the same query
    every 15 seconds, etc.
    Is there a way that I can notify other users of the change in the data fro the remote view. My original thought was to update a local table with the view reults and have a companion routine notify them of changes to that table. However, I do not see how
    the SQL used by VFP accomodates the "INTO" clause.
    Your help is appreciated.

    At least your query seems to get data where MODIFIED_BY IS NULL, doesn't it?

  • Casting problems getting a home I/F of an EJB in another app when debuging a servlet

    (Jdeveloper version = 9.0.2.798, OC4J Application Server version = Oracle9iAS (9.0.2.0.0))
    I am trying to debug a multi-tier application using the embedded application server. Servlets and EJBs within that application need to call EJBs contained within a second application (Horus).
    I have set up the embedded application server to run this second application automatically by adding the following entry into its server.xml
    <application auto-start="true" name="Horus" path="M:\Studio\build\production\java\Server\Obfuscate\J2EE_HOME\Horus\Horus.xml"/>
    I then start the embedded application server by debugging my servlet project, 'intermediateServlet'. I know the second application is running correctly in the embedded application server because I can access it from a separate client.
    In the 'intermediateServlet', I want to obtain a reference to a Dispatcher EJB held in the Horus application. This EJB has the following properties
         ejb-name     = com.internal.server.Dispatcher
         home interface     = com.internal.server.DispatcherHome
         bean class     = com.internal.server.DispatcherEJB
         remote interface= com.internal.server.Dispatcher
    The following code is executed during the container's call to my servlet init( context ) method to try and get the appropriate home interface.
    Context context = null;
    Object tempRemoteIF1 = null;
    Object tempRemoteIF2 = null;
    Properties h = null;
    h = new Properties();
    h.put( Context.INITIAL_CONTEXT_FACTORY, "com.evermind.server.rmi.RMIInitialContextFactory" );
    h.put( Context.PROVIDER_URL, "ormi://127.0.0.1:23891/Horus");
    h.put( Context.SECURITY_PRINCIPAL, "user0" );
    h.put( Context.SECURITY_CREDENTIALS, "password" );
    context = new InitialContext (h);
    tempRemoteIF1 = context.lookup( "com.internal.server.Dispatcher" );
    tempRemoteIF2 = javax.rmi.PortableRemoteObject.narrow
    tempRemoteIF1,
    Class.forName( "com.internal.server.DispatcherHome" )
    The context.lookup call seems to work fine, returning an object of the class
         DispatcherHome_StatelessSessionHomeWrapper5
    Which I presume is a containter generated class implementing the home interface. To help confirm this,
    the object has a property beanName that has the value "com.internal.server.Dispatcher".
    The problem occurs on the next line, when I check whether I can cast the object to the home interface using ProtableRemoteObject.narrow(). This gives the following exception.
    java.lang.ClassCastException
         java.lang.Object com.sun.corba.se.internal.javax.rmi.PortableRemoteObject.narrow(java.lang.Object, java.lang.Class)

              HttpRequestHandler.java:243
         void com.evermind.util.ThreadPoolThread.run()
              ThreadPoolThread.java:62
    Interestingly, if I use practically the same code, to obtain the home interface of an EJB that is defined in the application that I am debugging, the cast works perfectly. The returned object looks identical, apart from the name to the DispatcherHome_StatelessSessionHomeWrapper5 mentioned above.
    Could the error possibly be because I need to declare 'Horus' as a parent application of the application I am debugging? If it is how do I do this?
    Many thanks in advance for any help with this one.

    I saw a post that mentioned debugging a remote from so I checked the help out and it looks like a very useful capability, however I have a single form that acts as a menu that calls other forms is there anyway to use this remote debugging capabilty with a called form?

    yes, just make sure you "attach debug" to the called form in the form builder.

  • EJB Security Volation when access WSRP remote portlet

    I have set up a portal server using Workshop 8.1.3 and made it a producer of an remote portlet. I turn off the registration by setting it in wsrp-producer-config (<registration required="false" secure="false"/>). I have tested this remote portlet by accessing it from another Weblogic portal site.
    What I really want to do is to use this remote portlet on a MS sharepoint portal site (with WSRP Web Part Toolkit for sharepoint, http://www.gotdotnet.com/workspaces/workspace.aspx?id=2e3d8a57-ec9f-4d16-9a81-a395679d6392). I think I can successfully connected to the weblogic portal site, but I get a security volation error:
    Error: [EJB:010160]Security Violation: User: '' has insufficient permission to access EJB: type=, application=Demo, module=netuix.jar, ejb=PortalCustomizationManager, method=createSuccessor, methodInterface=Remote, signature={com.bea.netuix.application.manager.CustomizationContext,com.bea.netuix.application.identifier.DesktopDefinitionId,com.bea.netuix.application.identifier.PortletInstanceId}.
    Can any one tell me what I need to do to pass this security volation??
    Thank you very much.

    Thanks Subbu, this is what I am looking for, a way to get the requests and responses. I got the request/response from SOAP monitor. However I can't tell why it's not working (why the consumer doesn't have insufficient access). From the registration and service description, I can't tell anything wrong as they don't require any addition information for the consumer. I'll paste all the SOAP message between my consumer/producer and please let me know if you notice anything wrong. The SOAP messages are in order. Thanks so much for your help.

  • EJB 3.0 Application Client threw Remote nested exception

    Hi All,
    I came across the following EJBException message when trying to retrieve an Employee record (entity bean in EJB 3.0) after having successfully added it into EMPLOYEE table using stateless session bean:
    *10/03/2009 8:53:14 PM com.sun.enterprise.appclient.MainWithModuleSupport <init>*

    Below is the code snippets of EmployeeApplicationClient.java:
    public class EmployeeApplicationClient {
        @EJB
        private static EmployeeRemote employeebean1;
        @EJB
        private static EmployeeRemote employeebean2;
        public EmployeeApplicationClient() {}
        public static void main(String[] args)
            EmployeeApplicationClient employee_application_client = new EmployeeApplicationClient();
            employee_application_client.addEmployee(1, John, Smith);
            employee_application_client.printEmployee(1);
        public void addEmployee(int id, String firstname, String surname)
            try {
                Employee employee1 = new Employee();
                employee1.setID(id);
                employee1.setfirstname(firstname);
                employee1.setsurname(surname);
                employeebean1.createEmployee(employee1);
            catch {.....}
        public void printEmployee(int employee_id)
           Employee employee2 =  employeebean2.findEmployee(employee_id);
           System.out.println("employee Id: " + employeebean2.getId());
           System.out.println("employee firstname: " + employeebean2.getfirstname());
           System.out.println("employee surname: " + employeebean2.getsurname());
    }Using employeebean1/employeebean2 in printEmployee() did not make any difference.
    The error message appears to indicate that I have incorrectly structured these methods.
    The deployment of EmployeeBean was successful and employee1 is in EMPLOYEE table via SQL query.
    I am using JDK1.6.07, Glassfish v2 with MySQL 5.0 and Netbeans 6.1 on Windows XP platform.
    Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Jack

    Hi Ataraxisme,
    Thank you for responding to this post.
    This is a J2EE Application Client that was created and deployed along as an Netbeans EAR (both Application Client and EJB) project which uses resource injection as opposed to JNDI lookup.
    I am trying to get employeeApplicationClient.java to work the same way as the following travelAgentApplicationClient.java example which has successfully retrieved its record record immediately after adding using resource injection:
    public class TravelAgentClient {
        @EJB
        private static TravelAgentRemote travelagent;
        public TravelAgentClient() {
        public static void main(String[] args) {
            TravelAgentClient client = new TravelAgentClient();
            client.doTravelAgent();
        public void doTravelAgent() {
            try {
                Cabin cabin_1 = new Cabin();
                cabin_1.setId(1);
                cabin_1.setName("Master Suite");
                cabin_1.setDeckLevel(1);
                cabin_1.setShipId(1);
                cabin_1.setBedCount(3);
                travelagent.createCabin(cabin_1);
                Cabin cabin_2 = travelagent.findCabin(1);
                System.out.println(cabin_2.getName());
                System.out.println(cabin_2.getDeckLevel());
                System.out.println(cabin_2.getShipId());
                System.out.println(cabin_2.getBedCount());
             ......Thanks,
    Jack

  • How can I set the Remote app to work if I have lost my apple remote?

    I lost my remote to my Apple TV and I can't go into town to get another at the moment because there was a lot of snow and ice here. So, I'm wondering how I can set my iPhone 5 up as a remote using the remote app without the normal remote. I know the remote app used to auto-connect to the Apple TV, but since recent updates, you have to set it up as a remote on the actual Apple TV itself. Is there a way to get around this? Thanks in advance!

    Welcome to the Apple Community Dylan.
    There is no way to set up home sharing on the Apple TV without the original remote from Apple, you will need to purchase a new remote from the Apple Store.
    If you already have homesharing set up on the Apple TV, you merely need to set it up in the remote app settings.

  • I "have" to buy a remote just to watch a DVD from my new iMac?

    I can't even play a DVD on my new computer? I tried to look up "Front Row" tutorial on Apple's site. Well, I get over 230 topics, none of which relate to the "Front Row Application". This is pretty upsetting if I have to buy extra equipment just to watch a movie. The movie opens in Front Row, but none of my keys or mouse work at all. Man, my pc was trouble free at things like this.

    You can reintsall applications from your install disk.
    To reinstall applications that came with your Mac:
    Insert the Mac OS X Install Disc and double-click the package that installs bundled software or additional software. A package has an icon that looks like an opened box.
    Follow the onscreen instructions. If you see a pane with a Customize button, click Customize and select the application you want to install. If you see a pane that lets you choose what to install, click the disclosure triangle beside Applications and select the application you want to install.
    If you can’t find the application you’re looking for, you may need to reinstall Mac OS X. Your documents and user settings will remain.
    Insert the Mac OS X Install Disc and double-click the Install Mac OS X icon. In the pane where you select the destination disk, select your current Mac OS X disk, and click Options. Select “Archive and Install” and “Preserve Users and Network Settings.”
    Regarding a remote. You need to see if your iMac has an IR Receiver. Open the System Profiler (Applications/Utilities). Select USB under Contents on the left. If it doesn't say: USB Bus / IR Receiver, then you can't use a remote stick with your iMac regardless.

  • Orion-ejb-jar: cmp-field-mapping specs REMOTE home

    In the tech. preview documentation, in the EJB dev. guide, and in the section which details the orion-ejb-jar, I noticed something odd about the "cmp-field-mapping" element. It has an attribute called "ejb-reference-home", which is supposed to be "the JNDI location of the fields remote EJB-home if the field is an entity EJBObject or EJBHome".
    I would assume this would only be set if this field was specified as a CMR field in the ejb-jar.xml file.
    The odd thing is, it specifies the REMOTE home, not the LOCAL home. Is this just a typo?

    I believe that it is not JDeveloper issue but OC4J one. It does not pick up new orion-ejb-jar.xml if you re-deploy bean(s). It should deploy your orion-ejb-jar.xml when you're deploying yor application for the first time (so there is not orion-ejb-jar.xml in deployments directory). If you want OC4J to pick changes up remove orion-ejb-jar.xml from $OC4J_HOME/application-deployments/<application>/<Bean>.jar/ and then deploy it either manually or with JDeveloper. I hope it will help.
