Hi George,
I think I've answered this another post of yours. The best bet is to go straight from the scanner to a format that Word can read (most scanning software should offer that capability), and cut out the middleman (as much as I love Acrobat, it's not necessary in this case).

Which Approach?---Scan into JPEGs and then save as PDF or scan into PDF?

I am now learning to use my Canon Pixma MX870. I installed the full suite of Canon printing, scanning, faxing and whatever else software they provide for this all-in-one.
There are several different ways you can approach things with this machine which makes it a little confusing. You can do things with a one touch kind of method or you can delve deeper into the menus and adjust lots of settings.
Right now I am working on scanning documents into PDFs. The Canon software lets me create multipage PDFs which is something I've been wanting to do. My question is, is it best to scan images as JPEGs and then save them as a multipage PDF or is it best to scan into PDF directly (which the scanner seems to offer as well) and then save as a multipage PDF? I'm thinking in terms of the best optimization of file size vs. image quality and things like that.
Is the scanner actually doing anything differently when scanning into JPEG vs. PDF? Or is the scanning all the same and it's just the saving of the file that is different?
In general what dpi setting is usually sufficient to use to scan a basic text document without taking up too much file space?

Maybe you don't need that. I prefer using Apple's Image Capture for scanning.

Let the software do it for you. That will be fewer steps for you. Image-based PDFs are going to be large. There is no way around that. If they are too large, you can use Preview's Save As feature and play around with the Quartz Filter.

Scans are scans. The JPEG file format is lossly and will look worse than other types. If you are scanning in photographs, the JPEGs will look good. If you are scanning in crisp text, JPEGS will have lots of artifacts and look bad.

I pretty much always keep it at 300 unless I need something special or when the original is really small and I intend to blow it up.

All of this depends largely on what printer /software you have, which Email client you use and to some extent which OS you are running.
Most HP printers have HP Solution Center which is used to set up scanning,choosing where to save,etc. Once a file/photo is scanned and saved to the folder, open the folder.Select the file and at the top of the window should be the option to 'Email'.

Try disabling the computer's antivirus and firewall.
- Next try the manual install method of:

HP4620 will not print black BUT i can scan a copy to the printer and then print out black

AS soon as i changed the black print cartridge it stopped printing black copies but i can scan a document to the pc and then print it and it prints out perfect .... this is the third HP printer that i have (different models) where the SAME thing happens... i just sent 105.00 for cartridges that the printer still does not print. The IJ Scan Utility that comes with the printer can assist you with scanning a document into your computer. To scan using the IJ Scan Utility, please follow these steps:
1. On your keyboard, press the Windows key.
2. Start typing IJ SCAN UTILITY. The search window opens as you type. Once the IJ SCAN UTILITY is displayed, please select and open it.
3. In the Canon IJ Scan Utility window that opens, click SETTINGS.... in the bottom right of the window. The Settings dialog box appears.
4. Click the DOCUMENT SCAN or PHOTO SCAN option on the left pane of the window, depending on what you would like to scan.
5. In the SAVE SETTINGS section of the window, you will select the save format and location of the document you are about to scan.
a.) In the FILE NAME field, specify the name you would like to give the file. By default the filename will begin with IMG; you can remove IMG and change it to whatever you would like to name the file.
b.) In the SAVE IN field, please navigate to the area where you would like the file to be saved once it is scanned in. By default, the file will be saved in the MY DOCUMENTS folder, but if you already have the USB flash drive plugged into your computer, you can select that drive as the location to save the scanned document.
6. Once all settings have been selected, click the OK button at the bottom of the window to save the changes. The IJ Scan Utility main screen appears.
7. Click the DOCUMENT or PHOTO button, depending on what you are trying to scan. Scanning starts. Click the CANCEL button to cancel scanning if needed. Scanned images are saved in previously selected folder location specified in the SETTINGS... window.
If you find that you need advanced scanning options such as adjusting resolution, brightness, contrast, saturation, color balance, etc. in addition to the options selected above, please click on the SCANGEAR button on the IJ Scan Utility Main screen, then adjust the items as necessary.
Once the document has been scanned into your computer, you can insert the CD into your computer, then navigate to the area where you saved the scanned document and burn it to the CD. If you did not scan the document directly to the USB flash drive, you can copy and paste the document to the USB flash drive from the save location.

I made un update for OSX-10.9.2. , and when a scan a document or a picture, and order `save as` , the file saved is a black picture or document. I can't see the file. What happens? I made the downloads of files required in HP site. Tks, Paulo

PSC 1210 Mac OS 10.6 Scan multiple pages into one pdf., and ink levels

Now that I upgraded my Mac OS to Snow Leopard (10.6.8), I have needed to scan on my HP all-in-one psc 1210 either from Preview or from Scan & Fax in System Preferences. Once I scan a page and that page opens up, I AM able to scan additional pages, but each becomes a separate document. The only system driver available from HP is print only and also doesn't include a utility to check ink levels. Can someone help me with these two issues? (1) how to scan multiple pages into a single pdf. doc with my configuration, and (2) how can I check ink levels

Hi C_Maier,
I can not see the available options when it is disconnected. A screenshot when it is connected would be best. I have done some research though, and believe the option to select 'save all pages to a single file' may only be available if your printer has a document feeder, and of course as you know, yours does not
I know with 10.7 and higher the option is there even with flat bed only printers. You might consider upgrading the OS.

Is it possible to scan on iPad using iPrint app and then e-mail or upload resulting files?

I have an iPad2 with the latest iOS 4.3.2 update. My printer/scanner is the Deskjet 3050 / J610.
Scanning works great and the quality is very good. After saving the scan as a "document" (it actually got saved as a PDF file which I was very happy about) I have to do something with that document - I can either upload it to Dropbox, an FTP server, or anyplace else, or as plan B I could e-mail the document. But I can't figure out how to do anything with the resulting PDF after saving it to the Documents folder in iPrint.
Scans saved as images can be moved into the Photo Album and e-mailed from there - it's an unnecessary, clumsy step, but at least it's possible to get the image off the iPad. How do I get the PDF?

he software is Kodak homecentre software. The scanner software offers the option to scan and then save the collected page images as a single multi page file.

Scan to Application will not stop and cannot close

I recently scanned a phot to my mac and then imported to iphoto .
I scanned using a HP deskjet 3050.
The scan to application appears to still be running in the background as a moving cog appears in the top right hand menu bar next to network preferences, sync and time machine icons. When I right click on the cog it brings up stop scan to application but this has no effect.
Any ideas on how to quit.

Try rebooting the iPad by pressing and holding the on/off and home buttons simultaneously until the screen goes blank and you see the apple logo. It should take about 10-15 seconds to reboot.
