Do I need a bios update?

Hi, I am planning on getting this card : http://www.msi.com/product/vga/N650Ti2GD5OC_BE.html
My motherboard is the h61m-p21 (B3) and I've never updated my bios. Will I need to update it to use the 650ti Boost?

Probably not, but you will need to test to find out.
The 7xx and 7xxx + from Nvidia and AMD respectively are the ones that definatly need updates.

  • Long bios load time with gtx970 - maybe need gpu bios update?

I just installed my gtx 970 and it all runs fine.  However I get a very long bios load time on boot up.  Normally it only takes a second or two with a single beep.  With the 970 though I get the single beep and the bios load screen, but it sits at that screen for a long time, then another beep, waiting, eventually another beep, and after some more waiting windows will start to load.
My problem is that now I can also no longer get in to the bios. I have tried even plugging in a ps/2 keyboard to see if maybe that could get me in.  The farthest I get after hitting delete to enter is I just end up at a black screen. My mobo has no onboard gpu output, so its not like its trying to go to a monitor I cant see.
So would any gpu bios updates fix this? I am currently at the latest bios for my board which updated it to a uefi bios.

Under bios features, is there a option called boot mode select?
Try to switch to "legacy only", save and reboot.
Are you using HDMI connector? Try to use DVI.
    Sorry for my english!
I dont remember seeing any boot mode select.  As far as connections I am using all DVI for my monitors. I have also tried only having a single one connected in case there were issues with multiple monitors

with those old boards, you need ME8 to works with modern cards
    ask gigabyte support about it
Thanks Ill try emailing them.  Is ME8 some other bios? Just never heard of it before
    -edit
After reading up it looks like it was just a revision to allow ivy bridge devices, which happened a long long time ago on a bios update:
Support Intel 3rd generation 22nm E1 stepping CPU (Ivy bridge)
    Improve power on issue
    Update ME / CPU code
Unless theres something else Im missing about ME8

  • Need traditional BIOS update for Qosmio F30-111

I would like to get the traditional BIOS update like described in BIOS update FAQ. I don't have windows installed for updating it. (and I don't want to install it)
Can someone supply it? 3.90 version.
    Thanks

    Hello
if you do not want to install windows and you need to run the bios update windows software , then you can try this method
    Instructions
    1. download the BIOS
    2. Unzip to root of USB flash drive (formatted as FAT32) {"P0041v390.exe" is inside "bios-20080505133719.zip" v3.90}
    3. Unplug the USB flash drive and power down.
    4. Insert the 32 bit Vista DVD and boot from it (you are not actually going to end up installing it or doing anything, this just gets you to the 32 bit WinPE environment)
    5. Click through until you get to the screen with the activate online checkbox and uncheck it.
    6. Connect the USB flash key to the computer
    7. Press Shift-F10 to open a command prompt
    8. Change to the correct drive for the USB flash drive
    9. type "P0041v390.exe" {or what ever} and press enter
    10. after the flash is complete, before letting the machine restart, EJECT the DVD. (remember, nothing was installed and nothing really happened except you had access to a 32 bit WinPE environment which you needed to flash the BIOS).
{color:#ff0000}I did not try this method , try it and tell me
    {color}
    good luck ;)

  • How can I find out if I need a BIOS update?

I have a Yoga 2 Pro. How can I find out if I need to update the BIOS?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

If it ain't broken, don't fix it. This is expecially true with the BIOS.
Unless you are trying to fix a particular issue and you believe a new BIOS will help, don't touch it. The BIOS is one thing that can brick a computer should something go wrong during the flashing process.

  • K7N2G users need a BIOS update asap!

    Hi,
There are many here I'm sure who have upgraded to this board and most of us have been experiencing some/same bad problems with this mb.
Users having problems with the mb POSTing and crashing back to the desktop 10 secs after launching a 3D game???  What is up with this board?
If Nvidia know there is a problem with this board then why have they not said much about it?  Embarassment I think?  There are serious issues that need to be addressed if MSI and Nvidia want to keep face and I'll tell you why....
I have just purchased this board and I for one expected everything to work fine.  I've tried everything here and I've upgraded to BIOS v1.2 but still there are problems.  Now I have to make the decision to RMA this board back to the supplier E-buyer and state to them that both Nvidia and MSI are aware of issues with this board.  It would be nice to update the BIOS before I have to send the board back and this is the problem.  It will cause lots of hassle unless MSI pull their fingers out and get at least a good decent BIOS online for download asap before we choose another board altogether.  X(

    Hi,
That's not a boards problem or a BIOS problem....
Maybe BIOS settings you use or something else.
But I move this to the right area.

  • Upgrading CPU i5-2500k to i7-3770k do I need a bios update?

Yes, you need to update. Following the below updates to latest official bios (5.4 aka E7673IMS.540)
    >>Use the MSI HQ Forum USB flasher<<
A.) Download the attached archive and place it on your desktop. Do not decompress.
B.) Download and install the Forum flash tool.
C.) Insert your FAT32 formatted usb stick.
D.) Make sure that all win 8 options are disabled. (Fast Boot etc) Also make sure the legacy USB is enabled.
E.) Start the forum flash tool and select option 1. Then point the tool at the compressed archive we downloaded earlier. Then to your USB Flash Drive.
         F.) Boot to the USB
G.) Now follow the directions and let the tool flash
H.) After flashing reinstall ME drivers in Windows: http://download.msi.com/dvr_exe/intel_amt81_win78_xp.zip
But if really preferred to use MFlash, go for it.

  • Need a bios update for the MSI g45 gaming boot issue

When i first start my system, I noticed that the board doesn't boot up correctly even if we set the main boot to be the hard disk. The system boot in the EUFI section not the hard disk. I had to use boot override function to choose the hard disk then the system will boot normaly to the hard disk.

    This is a user to user forum. For any UEFI/BIOS modifications, MSI Technical needs to be informed. There are no UEFI/BIOS engineers here;
    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=107326.0  >> How To Contact MSI <<
In the boot sub-section, disable the devices you don't want to boot in the BBS properties, then set the boot order to nothing but the HDD with the OS on it. If this doesn't resolve it, then the alternate workaround is exactly what you did with the Override.

@SVet, I can do that if I get any issue. Just installed the card on a new machine and was thinking preventitive. I had heard that the N580GTX/OC had stabilitiy issues that required bios upgrades. Before I start crashing my machine, I was hoping to just go with a bios change that has worked for someone else.
It can't be used as each VGA is unique and require custom attention if issue occur.

You don't need a BIOS update.
When it is stated that a CPU is supported in the motherboard specifications document it means that BIOS support is already present.

  • Armada 1580DMT BIOS Update needed

    Hello from Bulgaria
I'm a HP Compaq user from forever and I've always been happy with the laptop products. I currently own a Pavilion dv6-1080eq.
I still keep the first laptop I got, it's an Armada 1580DMT. I want to bring this old fighter back to life, so I got it an 128mb ram module and planed to upgrade it. BUT it's not recognizing it. It sees only about 16mb of it. Along with this I seemed to have forgoten how to enter the bios setup.
I need a bios update, but I don't seem to be able to find it anywhere.
If you can give me a link from where I can download the latest firmware and some basic instructions on how to upgrade it, it will be great!
I've never used custumer support before and if you need some more information in order to help my case, I'll provide it.
    Thanks in advance
    Regards,
    Yordan

That old girl is an interesting piece of hardware. As you suggest, there is a BIOS update that makes a major difference in computer performance. It raises the maximum memory the computer will see from 64 megs to 80 megs. Sorry to say, the biggest module it will use is a 64 meg EDO laptop module. They are very hard to find these days. A PC-100 or PC-66 module will fit but will not work. I suspect your 128 meg memory stick is in fact a PC-100 module. The 16 megs you are seeing is onboard memory soldered to the motherboard and would be available even in the absence of an expansion module. The BIOS upgrade allows a 64 meg expansion module to work together with the onboard. With the older BIOS adding a 64 meg module would disable the onboard memory, making 64 megs total. The BIOS upgrade also brightens the screen and allows full plug and play operation which is essential to running Windows 2000, which is the best OS for that machine, even though it is a tad slow with 80 megs. Win98 runs pretty well but is fully obsolete now in my opinion and certainly not secure on the internet. If I recall, Windows 2000 installs all needed drivers without any assistance. The last BIOS upgrade for that model is not posted on this website. Check this old thread from the Business User's Forum. Rainald posted a link to the BIOS you need.
    Old Thread
I tried the link and it still works and Rainald even posted instructions on how to make the bootable floppy you need to flash the BIOS. I also think this BIOS update adds CD booting capability to the machine. It is the most effective BIOS update I have ever come across.

  • Need Help For Bios Update...

Hi Buddies, my mobo (760GM-P23 (FX)) is working with an Athlon II X3 455, Kingston HyperX KHX1333C9D3B1K2/4G Dual Kit and with just on-board graphic. MSI Live Update shows the bios H.20 as my board's and H.A0 as upgrade version. Is this information correct?
I'm an inexperienced pc user. Is there any software which installs the bios update through windows' interface?
I'm using "Core Temp" software as processor heat controller. Any other advice which shows also the mobo's temperature?
    Thanks in advance..

if you have no issues, then leave bios update alone

Thanks for help. I tried to use it. Interestingly Control Center and Live Update are not working together. Just ones is working if I install it before than other. Second gives error as "Driver can't load".
Control Center need admin permissions to runs properly.

    _One additional info:_
You should know that the BIOS update is always risky.
The wrong BIOS or wrong BIOS update procedure can damage the board or the ROM module.
Yes its true dude. The BIOS upgrade is not an easy thing like a graphic card driver update. BIOS update should be done as a last resort.
and please read more info before you will continue the BIOS update.
