Do i need more memory for mountain lion?
I'm trying to update to Moutain Lion but get a pop-up box saying that I need more memory. Is this something I need to buy and install?
Mountain Lion requires a minimum of 2 GB of RAM however most users recommend a 4GB or more. Installing RAM is extermely simple and yes you need to buy it. We would need to know the exact model of iMac you own in order to advise which RAM your system needs. I'd recommend contacting a trusted vendor such as OWC (www.macsales.com) or Crucial or your local AASP, each can assist you.

What is the best External Hard Drive for a Macbook Leopard 10.5.8? I need more memory for documents, pictures, videos, and music. Thanks!
Hi, does your MacBook have Firewire, or just USB?
FW is far faster if you have that.
Avoid Bus powered ones.

Do I need more memory for Parallels/Vista?
Hi, I have a MacBook Pro with a 2.16 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo and 1 GB 667 MHz RAM running 10.4.10.
I installed Parallels 3.0 and Windows Vista. I also need to install Office. I would like to have Leopard installed once I am sure Parallels works with it (the Parallels people tell me I should wait a few weeks).
The problem is that when Parallels is running my Mac is sloooooowwwww as molasses in January. Last week it ran like a breeze but this week it's so slow I have to wait 2 minutes for my mouse to respond. The difference being that this week, I actually need to run applications.
Will upgrading the RAM take care of the problem, or will it do nothing for me?I can vouch for this. Vista is a memory pig. Expect it to use over 512MB of RAM while idling. I've also tried running Windows XP in Parallels on an iMac with 1GB of RAM. With few applications running in OS X, and only doing updates in XP, all available memory is eaten up, and the machine acts like a dinosaur. In my opinion, to effectively run Parallels with Windows 2000 or above, _at least_ 1.5GB of system RAM is required. Anything less, and you're either gimping Windows (by assigning too little memory to the virtual machine) or the entire system (by assigning more memory).
On another note, if you're going to run anything remotely intensive (video or photo editing, or game playing) use Boot Camp instead. -
I bought an iMac 2 months ago... do I need to pay for Mountain Lion?
My iMac is barely out of the box (it actually sat in storage for a month before I set it up) and now I find that the OS is already out of date. Does Apple have a deal on Mountain Lion for recent purchases? Like... for free?

If you purchased your iMac on or after 7/11 6/11 you are entitled to a free copy, if not, it's $19.99 -
Need internet explorer for Mountain Lion
Do any one know where to find Internet Explorer for Mounain Lion?
Internet Explorer is only available for Windows, not Mac. If you have to use a webpage that requires Internet Explorer, you can use compatibility mode:
1. Go to Safari > Preferences > Advanced and tick Show Develop menu in menu bar.
2. Open Develop > User Agent and press Internet Explorer 9 (Windows).
If it doesn't help, buy Windows 7 or 8 and install it in VMware Fusion, Parallels Desktop, VirtualBox or through Apple Boot Camp -

As shldr said, OS X Mountain Lion needs 2 GB of memory or more. If you see a message telling you that you need 2 GB or more of memory, that's because you have less memory than 2 GB on the computer.
You have to buy more memory for your computer, and I recommend you to buy it in OWC or Crucial > http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/apple/memory/iMac -
Hi, how do I create a standalone installer for Mountain Lion, ie, download once and then no more broadband required, thanks?
Context is that my other computers are not mobile and I do not have broadband worth troubling for a 4GB download - so will go to Apple Store with MacBook Pro for first download. The easiest way is to download the installer but do not open it.
Next, make a copy of it and store it where it won't get lost.
Then take one of the copies and place into the applications directory and open it to begin the installer.
This has saved me the trouble of ever having to download the installer twice, plus you can mess around with the installer and try different options without having to worry about not having a clean install file if needed.
Best wishes -
Need to Install Safari 6.0.2 on a white Intel core duo iMac. Had to throw out 6.0.3 because of conflict with required software. Downloaded wrong version that was for Mountain lion (I am running 10.7.5). It installs but won't open, says it is for Mountian Lion.
Of course I can't throw it away since I get a message it's part of the sytem. I am running Snow Leopard 10.6.8 with bootcamp 3.3 on my Imac 2011. I need to updgrade to mountain lion. If I first upgrade to mountain lion, how do I go about upgrading from bootcamp 3.3 to latest bootcamp for mountain lion?
I have seen a lot of discussions upgrading from Boot Camp 4 to 5 but no answers upgrading from boot camp 3.3 to 5. My worry is that if I upgrade from snow leopard to mountain lion, that my bootcamp partition will no longer be able to boot up. There seem to be a lot of threads suggesting problems that are possible. Has anyone gone through this upgrade with success? Before doing any installation restart OSX from your 10.6 Snow Leopard DVD and use Disk Utility to Both Repair The Disk and Repair the Permissions of your Macintosh HD.
Next remove your Snow Leopard DVD and restart your iMac into OSX.
Update to the latest version of OS X Snow Leopard by clicking the Apple icon and choose Software Update to install Snow Leopard v10.6.8, the latest version.
Use Time Machine to make a Full Backup of your Macintosh HD.
Shut down and restart into Windows by holding the Option key at the chime and selecting Windows.
Now use Windows Backup to make a Full Image Backup of your Windows Installation to a removable drive.
Shut Down and Boot back into OSX.
Open the Mac App Store from your Dock to buy and download Mountain Lion. Then follow the onscreen instructions to install it.
Upgrading your OSX to 10.8 should not effect the Windows Partition at all since you are only upgrading the Mac side. You should not have to run the Boot Camp Assitant 5 Utility in OSX at all.
Your Boot Camp 3.3 Windows Support Drivers et. al only effect your Windows installation and should continue to run fine after upgrading.
Which version of Windows do you already have installed on the existing Boot Camp Partition?
Is it 32 bit or 64 bit? -
I cannot get pages from iworks to share on Mountain Lion. Do I need a new version of pages for Mountain Lion instead of iworks?
You need Pages 09 (Version 4) to take advantage of Mountain Lion's iCloud features. You don't say what version you have.

I have a 2010 Macbook, and have snow leopard on it. Do I need to upgrade to Mountain Lion first on order to be able to upgrade to Mavericks?
Lanny wrote:
You shouldn't assume that someone with a 2010 Mac is going to have a lot of incompatible PowerPC software.
It's wrong for you to assume that they don't care about what they are about to lose, even if it's one PPC program.
It's not uncommon for people to keep their software up to date.
It's wrong for you to assume that all software is being updated or that there are Intel versions available.
I have a mid/late-2007 MacBook Pro 3.1 with 6 Gigs of RAM and a 750 Gig 7200rpm hybrid hard drive that is running Mountain Lion just fine. Performance benchmarks with Geekbench are equal between SL and ML, and the Mac runs about 20 F degrees cooler than it did with SL.
You took extremely good care of your almost 7 year old machine and judiciously used it, you added more RAM and a faster cooler hybrid drive to make up for the more feature rich yet slower performing Mountain Lion.
Congratulations, your a conservative.
It would be nice to have some empathy for the people you advise that they also also don't get suddenly ambused by a OS X upgrade that's going to disable software they care about using still. -

At some time you appear to have moved or renamed an older version of Safari to your desktop. Make sure you launch the Safari 6 that came with Mountain Lion which is in the Applications folder, and trash that older version.
If you somehow deleted Safari 6 or overwrote it with an older copy, you'll either need to reinstall Mountain Lion, copy Safari 6 from another system running Mountain Lion, or extract Safari 6 from the Mountain Lion installer using Pacifist from Charlessoft. Safari 6 for Mountain Lion is not available as a separate download from Apple, to the best of my knowledge.
