Do I need my pass code in order to backup my iPad?

I forgot my password and have tried nine times to "guess" what I had previously set it at.  If it is required to lock the device to back it up, would shutting off suffice?
Thanks!

If You Are Locked Out Or Have Forgotten Your Passcode or Just Need to Restore Your Device
  1. iTunes 10 for Mac- Update and restore software on iPod, iPhone, or iPad
  2. iPhone, iPad, iPod touch: Wrong passcode results in red disabled screen
  3. iOS- Understanding passcodes
If you have forgotten your Restrictions code, then follow the instructions
below but DO NOT restore any previous backup. If you do then you will
simply be restoring the old Restrictions code you have forgotten. This
same warning applies if you need to restore a clean system.
A Complete Guide to Restore or Recover Your iDevice (if You Forget Your Passcode)
If you need to restore your device or ff you cannot remember the passcode, then you will need to restore your device using the computer with which you last synced it. This allows you to reset your passcode and re-sync the data from the device (or restore from a backup). If you restore on a different computer that was never synced with the device, you will be able to unlock the device for use and remove the passcode, but your data will not be present. Refer to Updating and restoring iPhone, iPad and iPod touch software.
Try restoring the iOS device if backing up and erasing all content and settings doesn't resolve the issue. Using iTunes to restore iOS devices is part of standard isolation troubleshooting. Restoring your device will delete all data and content, including songs, videos, contacts, photos, and calendar information, and will restore all settings to their factory condition.
Before restoring your iOS device, Apple recommends that you either sync with iTunes to transfer any purchases you have made, or back up new data (data acquired after your last sync). If you have movie rentals on the device, see iTunes Store movie rental usage rights in the United States before restoring.
Follow these steps to restore your device:
     1. Verify that you are using the latest version of iTunes before attempting to update.
     2. Connect your device to your computer.
     3. Select your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch when it appears in iTunes under Devices.
     4. Select the Summary tab.
     5. Select the Restore option.
     6. When prompted to back up your settings before restoring, select the Back Up
option (see in the image below). If you have just backed up the device, it is not
         necessary to create another.
     7. Select the Restore option when iTunes prompts you (as long as you've backed up,
you should not have to worry about restoring your iOS device).
     8. When the restore process has completed, the device restarts and displays the Apple
         logo while starting up:
After a restore, the iOS device displays the "Connect to iTunes" screen. For updating
to iOS 5 or later, follow the steps in the iOS Setup Assistant. For earlier versions of
iOS, keep your device connected until the "Connect to iTunes" screen goes away or
          you see "iPhone is activated."
     9. The final step is to restore your device from a previous backup. If you do not have a
backup to restore, then restore as New.
If you are restoring to fix a forgotten Restrictions Code or as a New device, then skip Step 9 and restore as New.

  • Pass Code just entered in set-up iPad not recognizing.

Tried to install iOS 8, needed pass code.  Having never entered one before, I just entered one for the first time under set-up.  However, iPad is not recognizing the pass code I just set it up with!
Powered off iPad and restarted, but still not recognizing pass code I just set it up with.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
That sounds like it would be frustrating. Take a look at the article below, it outlines how you can restore the iPad to resolve the issue with the passcode.

What is Airport Utility and why do I need to access Airport witeless devices in order to backup my iMac using Time Machine...HELP!!! PLEASE??

AirPort Utility is required to configure an Apple AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule.
Time Machine can use a Time Capsule or a locally connected volume. You only need to use AirPort Utility if you are using a Time Capsule.

  • HT4061 If I forget my pass code how can I use my iPad

I have a pass code on my iPad mini and I have forgotten it how can I fix this

Did you read the link Diavonex posted?
The only way to get into a passcode protected device is to restore it.
Follow the instructions there even if your iPad is not disabled yet. The procedure is the same.
Disconnect the USB cable from the device, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.
While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the device. The device should turn on.
Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen. When this screen appears, release the Home button.
iTunes should alert you that it has detected a device in recovery mode. Click OK, and then click Restore to restore the device.

  • Whenever I go into my account for hotmail/outlook it says that my password is incorrect when I haven't needed a pass code before, and when I type in the correct password for it anyway it says it's incorrect, any help?

Please help!!!! This also happened when I went on my Xbox 360, it said my account password was incorrect

    The question for you is, did you just change the email used in your original Apple ID or did you create a new Apple ID from the new email address. This is how to change the email in an Apple ID;
If you did anything other than this, you likely created a new Apple ID and that will be a problem for you.

  • I updated to iso7 and now i need a pass code

but i never had one before. it wont let me in without one. what do i do?

At one point the setup asks if ou would like to set a passcode for security, you tell it to skip that and it asks if you are sure, tell it you are and you can move ahead.  You do not HAVE to set a passcode, just be forceful and refuse to do so :-)

  • How many servers need to be added in order to service 127 iPads going online?

I was wondering if anyone knows how many servers would be needed to provide the resources for 127 iPads to go online.

Give us a picture of the load.
Are they all going to sync to the same computer with different user accounts?
In which case 1 server is going to need lots of storage.
Are you just using it to manage Profiles - a mini will suffice
Are you going to use it to manage Profiles and link in with Mail, Cal, Address & VPN - depending on the active load - a mini might suffice or you will want something bigger.
How complex do you want your managment to be - are you integrating with AD, or setting up a stand alone OD to handle this?
Are you going to be using WebDav?
Are you going to be hosting files via HTTP for the iPads or setting up resources via the Wiki's / Blogs (although you still cannot edit them...)
I certainly plan on supporting 100+ iPads via Profile Manager on an iPad - but I doubt if I will be running Mail, VPN, Cal or Address books - I want them to hook into an exchange server instead for that info.

  • Pass code unlock option no long available on my Iphone4

Please help.  I can no longer see the pass code unlock option on my Iphone4.  Although I realize the importance of security, this feature can become a nuisance when you have to continuously type in the pass code.  I do not have Microsoft Exchange or is it tied into corporate email.  My Iphone is for personal use only.  This is extremely frustrated when driving and you need to type in the pass code in order to reach the phone pad.  I am on version 4.3.5.  With the focus on driving and texting, I am surprised Apple would run the risk of forcing someone to type a password while driving.  Thank you.

Thank so much for the quick response.  Took your advice and everything appears to be working!!!

  • HT1369 Yes, my cousins Ipod is disabled and I connect it to itunes and it will not connect, it says "the device you have entered has a pass code, enter the passcode to connect." The problem is the keyboard to type in the pass code will not show up. What d

Yes, my cousins iPod is disabled. It says "ipod is disabled, connect to iTunes", I did that and it will not connect to iTunes, because it needs the pass code. The pass code key board will not show up and I cant connect. Please help me figure this problem out, my cousin is depending on me. Thanks, a concern customer.

Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.

  • HT4623 setting a pass code on the Ipad

Several weeks ago I updated the software on my ipad2.  After completing, I needed a pass code.  I never set a pass code so therefore I had to restore the ipad.  (one major headache!).  I'd like to update the software, but I do not want to go through this again.  How do you go about setting a pass code on the Ipad.  I'm new to all of this and want to find out more about the Icloud too.

  • Pass code lock app

I'm looking for an app, if any, that would turn on the pass code lock when I leave my house. I know this app was available if you jailbroke your iPhone. I don't need my pass code on when I am home but at work it is handy. Is there an app or would apple incorporate this feature in the next iOS update? The reminder app has a similiar feature to where it uses the GPS to alert you when you leave or arrive at a predetermined location. I want the passcode to turn on when I either enter my home (GPS) or a predetermined wifi area. Thanks in advance.
