No.
Newer Macs do not need any such applications.
Once in awhile let it sleep during the night.

I suggest you start a new question that gives a good title to a specific problem. Then in the body of the thread describe the problem in detail, tell us what steps you have tried so far to correct the problem, what happened, and what error messages you received.

Is it possible to Manage iOS apps with Lion Server

I was wondering if anyone knows whether or not it's possible to manage (add and remove) iOS apps using Lion Server, specifically apps available via the app store rather than apps built for internal use? I can't seem to see a way of doing it using profile manager but was wondering if I was maybe missing something?

Scanner app with Lion?

I am just about ready to upgrade to lion, but have an issue with my scanners ... Three of them, all epson.. Using Epson scan app has been great, but I read that it will not run on Lion... So I've tried both image capture and vuescan... Both are awful compared to the old epson scan and I don't really see any alternatives.
What have you with epson scanners done???

I am a graphic designer and have been using an Epson Perfection Photo 4870 for years now. 99% has been TWAIN'd through Photoshop. My main issue always was that, I would have to FILE > IMPORT > TWAIN over and over again, for everything I wanted to scan, and it wasted a lot of time relaunching the Epson scanning software.
Recently my 2007 MacBook died (two days ago) completely...so I had to purchase a new MacBook Pro with Lion pre-installed. After multiple failed atempts to TWAIN the scanner through Photoshop or even trying to launch the scanner through the Print / Fax settings (which would never launch)...I finally discovered that Image Capture was fully recognizing the scanner.
So I have ran a few tests scans, photos, artwork, office papers...etc. I haven't tried the transparency abilities yet, but so far, the software seems to retain all the abilities the Epson software did and actually has more features now. All the Image Sharpen, Unsharp Mask, Descreening, Backlight and Dust Removal are all there and seem to function normally. It's got all the DPI options, size, color and even file type options.
It may take a few more times to really tweek the software and figure out what are the best settings to use now, but I think overall it is going to be just fine. One new feature that I have seen from the get go, is the ability to ROTATE the scanning selection box! Which was NOT available in the Epson software, this is a huge plus which will save time having to readjust alignment in PS if the scanned items ***** on the scanner bed while closing the lid or something. Also, the fact that the software doesn't have to close and relaunch on every scan.
The main drawback I do see so far though, is that you cannot add the PS.app to the list of destinations to send a scanned file. So at the moment I am just sending scans to a select folder and then opening them in PS to edit. It has the option to send to iPhoto, Image.app and Mail, but not PS. I think if they enable that option, then this Image Capture software will be plenty suficient to use.
No one likes change...but sometimes it works out ot be better.
Oh yea, and it does seem to process, preview and scan much quicker than the old Epson Scan software...

The GB size of the download file is the compressed size (like .zip or .dmg). When the file is installed/uncompressed it can be 2-3 times larger.
How much space is Other using? You may be able to reduce.

Need Guidance in Building an app With Sh Script Commands

Let me start off by saying this will be long:
I've been tasked with creating an application at work that provides a GUI interface to the user while it runs a shell script in the background. I have very limited experience with Xcode and the developer tools so please explain in simplest terms possible
On to the application. It will be broken down into five different GUI windows. I know I need to use IB, but thats about as far as I know how to pull this off.
1. Intro screen that gives a description of the program and a start button.
2. Asks the user to specify the location where they want to save their image and provide a name for it,then a next button. (I would like to do a drag and drop field if that is possible where they could drag the folder and the path would be read and have whatever name they type automatically append .dmg onto the end)
3. This window asks them to drag and drop (if possible) the windows partition into the window, and then click next.
4. A progress bar
5. Successfully finished.
There is an additional unix file that script calls as well

HT1349 First of all, I have just purchased a iMac and I tried installing my Logic Express 9.0 and it won't work. Gives me an error message. I searched the internet and found i need to update it to run with Lion. Tried to download but my SerNum doest work.

Can anyone help me please. I tried installing my Logic Express 9.0 but it states I need an update. Ok.. great. So i tried to download it via apple.com but my serial number doesn't work. I can't even schedule an appointment with them because I am in Italy now. Can anyone show me how I can fix this proble. Either download the update thtat allows my iMac to run Logic express 9 or get apple.com to help me. Either or would be appreciated.! Thank you!

Are others having problems with Lion and btinternet mail ?

Since using OS-X Lion many odd things have been happening , especially with Mail ( 5.1).
The problems may be related to the combination of Lion/Mail 5.1 and btinternet as my ISP.
1. Since using Lion, with (Mac) Mail I have been unable to use BTinternet's 'POP' mail - although my local Apple Store Genius tells me that it was not a good choice and I'm well rid of it - in favour of IMAP mail
2. BT has, recently improved the security of its IMAP mail, so perhaps IMAP is the best choice. In any event Mac Mail under Lion appears to take over as soon as bt is mentioned and signs me up automatically for IMAP. Even if I override the automatic process it still will not let me go to bt's POP mail.
3. HOWEVER ( it's a big one!), whilst the incoming IMAP mail seems O.K. it frequently won't let me send mail. It simply puts it into drafts when I click send.
4. Sometimes, if I go away and make a coffee ( not mandatory) and come back ten minutes later it will have sent the mail - but leaves a copy in 'drafts'. I know it has sent it because it appears in the Send box - despite there being no sign on any movement showing sending when I leave the machine ...
5. I have a Macbook and a desktop machine ( Mac Pro). Both have the same problem - both have the same settings.
6. I was able to demonstrate the problem to a Genius at the Apple Store. We deleted the account and rentered it and had the same problem - no sending.
In a 45 minute sending we could not solve it.
7. I went home and found that the drafts in Mail on the desktop had all gone and had been sent.
8. Today, as I write outgoing mails and click send they go straight into the Drafts again.
Any ideas? I really can't face an hour on the phone to an Mac incompetent in Mumbai .....
My btinternet webmail is behaving normally.

I do the same, I have different backgrounds for each desktop. I don't have any problem with it. You could try holding the mouse over prefferances and selecting options , This Desktop, and do the same in each desctop and changing the desktop background in each.
You may allready do this, but it could be worth a shot to do it again.

If I re-install my podcast app with a different apple ID will I lose all the media from the older one ?

You don't really want a new Apple Account (which is what you are describing) - all of your iTunes purchases will still be tied to the old Apple Account, all of your iCloud info will be under that old Account, all of your Messages will be under that old Account.
Why not just to to Manage your Apple ID and edit your Apple ID to the new email you want it to be? You cannot edit an Apple ID using an Apple Domain email address (@me.com, @mac.com, @iCloud.com), but if your current ID is not using one of those type of email addresses, then changing it is the way you want to go. That way, everything stays with the Apple ID since it is the same Apple account.
Just be sure to sign out of all apps on the device (iCloud, Messages, iTunes & App Store, FaceTime) before you change it.

How to download apps with internet download managers

i need to download my payed apps with an idm because with internet download manager my speed doubles up but with itunes i have problems of low speed and long time to download apps ?

I agree that this is silly, I'm with 3UK and get completely unlimited data on my Tariff.
It's a pain having to find a WiFi point just to download an app. Especially when sometimes, my 3G is faster than some public WiFi points
Another silly thing is the fact that when I'm out with a Mate, I can tether to his iPhone and download apps via WiFi over his 3G connection
WiFi/3G dongles also work. But that's beside the point
Maybe if they gave you a warning before downloading.
ie. "This application exceeds 50MB. do you wish to download using your dataplan or later via WiFi"

Can you share specific apps with other devices under same Apple ID? ...or do you need to enable he sharing of all apps that have been downloaded under that ID?

My family has multiple devices under one apple ID. I want to share only certain apps with certain family members. Is it possible to limit what apps are shared with which devices or do I need to share all of the apps that I download for personal use?

Thanks. I turned off the automatic downloads on the new devices (minis), but when I go into the app store I don't see any of the apps I have bought (for my original iPad) under "purchased". After following thru' and fixing with all the earlier errors as advised, am trying to run the insync-basic app and getting this error now:
Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at localhost:8400
and FlashBuilder seems to hang and timeout.
Do I need to run some other service ?
(The web server is already running on localhost and other Flex apps are working)
