Do I need to install boot camp on Windows 7 as well as on Lion? I already installed it some years ago on Leopard when installing Windows Vista on my Macbook Pro. But now after installing Windows 7, many things in windows doesn't work (sound etc.). I made a clean installation because I needed to go from 32 bit to 64 bit.
Or should I just update bootcamp in Lion? (cause when I search for "boot camp" in Windows 7 there's no result)

Lion's Boot Camp Assistant 4.x should have downloaded Apple drivers as part of also partitioning.
You need Apple drivers. And you then need to add on your own audio driver.
You can run Assistant at any time to download and save a set of drivers.

I have installed mountain Lion on my MacBook pro , but now safari Will not open any internet pages??

    Try this:
    1. Go to Safari > Preferences > Extensions
    Disable any extensions.
Restart Safari and test. If that doesn't work, try this:
    2. Create a new location and renew the DHCP lease. See here for the procedure:

  • Migrated old back-up to new MacBook Pro, but now new machine doesn't recognize old back-up

So last night I migrated my old back-up to my new MacBook Pro, but this morning my new machine doesn't recognize my old back-up. I'd rather not erase and back-up from scratch for numerous reasons (losing the old data, time, etc).
Any suggestions? I'll bet this is a realatively common issue?
Thanks in advance for any help!
    -Ron

Looking back, at your original posts....it said it needed 774 GB?? is that at all reasonable for a full backup of your system??
Maybe there's something more than meets the eye?
Also maybe we can figure out what went wrong with the tmutil command. It is possible that you may have to use additional options.
But first le's see who owns the old backup....
From the terminal command line try this:
sudo xattr -l "path to your backup"
Where "path to your backup" is tha same path exactly as used in the tmutil command, that is:
    /Volumes/"Backups Device Name"/Backups.backupdb/"Backup Name"
You should get something like this for output:
    com.apple.backupd.BackupMachineAddress:
    00000000  30 30 3A 31 64 .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. ..  |00:1d:..:..:..:.|
    00000010  34 00                                            |4.|
    00000012
    com.apple.backupd.HostUUID:
    00000000  41 34 32 30 43 .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. ..  |A420Cxxxxxxxxxxx|
    00000010  .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. ..  |xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx|
    00000020  32 37 37 42 00                                   |277B.|
    00000025
    com.apple.backupd.ModelID: MacPro3,1
The "BackupMachineAddress" is the MAC address of the Ethernet port your mother board.
You can find the MAc address in About this Mac-> More Info. -> System report -> Network -> Ethernet 1
The "HostUUID" is the identifier of your mother board.
You can find it in About this Mac-> More Info. -> System report ->Hardware Overview  [that's the first thing that shows when you select System report]
These are the way the connection of the backup to a machine is made.
Now the tmutil inheritbackup comand should have set them to the correct values for your new machine.
But let's' see if any of them match the new machine and then see of we haveany more options.

  • 15" Core Duo Macbook Pro Distorted Display after installing Boot Camp

I just put Leopard on and decided to use Boot Camp to install Windows XP Pro. After Windows Installed and I put on all the drivers I booted up to the Mac Side and then shut it down. After a while I booted it back up again and the display was all distorted I was able to fix the problem by reseting the PRAM and NVRAM but the problem keeps happening everytime I boot to the Windows side and then Shutdown. Is there any fix for this and does Apple even know it's a problem?
    Thanks,
    James

After a LOT of reboots, I've found a pattern AND SOLUTION for the problem:
For having this to happen, you have to be in OS X with everything normal then switch in Windows, then restart in OS X. (not a shut down) The screen goes inactive during the boot, but when in OS X, everything is normal. At the next boot though, the colors SHALL be all wrong, during the boot and once in the OS too. (Mac and Windows)
But I discovered that it happens only when you RESTART, not when you shut down the computer and then power it up. Seems like a parameter problem when Windows restart.
So my solution to stop having to reset the PRAM is this: when in Windows and wanting to go back to OS X, do not restart, shut down the computer and power it up to choose OS X. I hope this will help some people.
    Olivier
P.S.: Restarting from OS X seems fine for now, no problem at all.

  • Can't install Windows 8.1 on Macbook Pro (mid 2012) after installing/removing refit

So I recently installed and removed rEFit on my macbook (I was trying to clone a windows install to the drive to keep it handy, and thought I'd need it to boot from the install), and haven't been able to get Windows 8.1 (x64) to install since -- I keep getting an error message (0x C0000005). I've tried removing all the partitions the installer makes, leaving extra room, etc, but nothing works. I tried to run the EFI updater, but it says it isn't supported by the system (I downloaded the 9,1 version).
    Anyone have any ideas?

Quick update -- I've tried resetting the pram, running the windows startup repair, and running bootrec.exe through the command prompt. No luck with those so far.
Just opened disk utility and saw the screenshot below....could be part of it, but I've deleted the partitions several times...

  • Black screen on MacBook Pro Retina Display after installing Moutain Lion. Need Help!

My macbook pro (retina) screen went black after I installed Mountain Lion.
I got a HDMI cable to another monitor and the image worked nicely there.
But i cant get it back on my MacBook Pro! I tried taking out the HDMI cable, restarting, searching on settings configs..
    What should I do?
Are there any drivers i should install to get image back on my MacBook Pro Retina Display?
Has this happened to anyone else?
Thanks in advance for all the help.

That helped me finding other people with similar problems.
But there is a major difference!
-They have a black screen after they login.
-My screen is black NOW! And I'm only using my BRAND NEW rmbp with the HDMI cable to my TV!
This isnt good at all and I would like to solve it asap..
I tried reinstalling Mountain Lion, taking out the hdmi cable and rebooting many times.
    Until now, nothing!
Is my screen broken or maybe my video card has some problems?
I hope not! I just traveled from the US to Brazil and I dont want to search for an Apple Store here.
Any tips or ideas are welcome, thank you.

  • My macbook pro runs slow after install of lion

i was wondering if anyone is having any issues after installing lion and doing the 10.7.3 update? i noticed a slow performance after i did the  update. i also added 8 gigs of memory hoping this would help, but it didnt i also formatted the drive install snow leo and my boot time was 2 minutes i upgraded to lion and my boot time jumps to 6 plus minutes. i have run the disk permission finds some problems then repair but still my macbook runs slow HELP ME!!!!!

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ If you’re running Mac OS X 10.7 or later, open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the page that opens.
    Step 1
Select "system.log" from the file list. Enter "BOOT_TIME" (without the quotes) in the search box. Note the times of the log messages referring to boot times. Now clear the search box and scroll back in the log to the time of the most recent boot when you had the problem. Post the messages logged during the time when you had the problem – the text, please, not a screenshot. For example, if the problem is a slow startup taking three minutes, post the messages timestamped within three minutes after the boot time. If the problem is a crash or a shutdown hang, post the messages from before the boot time, when the system was about to crash or was failing to shut down.
Edit out excessive repeats and personal information, if any.
If the log doesn't go back far enough in time, scroll down in the Console file list to /private/var/log/system.log.0.bz2. Search the archived log, and if necessary the older ones below them, for the same information.
    Step 2
    Do the same with kernel.log.
    Step 3
Still in Console, look under System Diagnostic Reports for crash or panic logs, and post the most recent one, if any. For privacy’s sake, I suggest you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if present (it may not be.) Please do not post shutdownStall or hang logs – they're very long and not helpful.

  • Why is my MacBook Pro very slow after installing Mountain Lion 10.8.5. - Solutions?

    Hello, hello
After waiting quite a while - I paid the relatively small amount, and got myselves a new OS.
But I am very disappointed of the speed - I see that this also was a problem with OS Lion?
Please assist me. Perhaps others have this problem as well?
    Some info:
    - 2,66 GHz Intel Core i7 processor
    - 4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
    Also
    - Sometimes I run the Parallels Desktop 6 and 9 software, does this affect specs of the new OS?
Hope to hear from you guys.
    Sincerely,
    Harald

With only 4GB of RAM, how much do you have devoted to the virtual machine running under Parallels? Even if it's a small amount, it's going to make page outs and swaps used very high. From my perspective, 8GB of RAM is the 'sweet spot' for running Mountain Lion.
I'm assuming that you've a 15" mid-2010 MacBook Pro? If so, you can speed things up by installing the maximum 8GB of RAM. Go RAM shopping at Crucial or OWC.
Other than upgrading your RAM, the only thing that you can do to speed up your machine is to install a SSD. You can also check the SSDs at Crucial and OWC and decide if one is right for you.

  • Macbook Pro constantly freezing after installing 10.9.4

So as the title says ever since I installed 10.9.4 my MacBook pro keeps freezing every few seconds.  When I boot it up in safe mode the screen flickers like crazy.  I also tried booting with the keys command alt p r and that didn't work either.  I just tried clicking on the reinstall os x button but that was going to take 72 hours, so I wanted to try this first.
This sort of thing constantly happens when I upgrade and very annoying.  If anyone has any suggestions, please I need help.
My MacBook is from mid 2009.
    Thanks!

Startup your Mac while holding down the Command + R keys so you can access the built in utilities to repair the startup disk and restore OS X using OS X Recovery.
