Do we need Oracle HTTP server to host Oracle Apex ?

We are completely new to this Oracle Apex.
Wanted to know the licensing part of it , before we get into it.
I guess Oracle Apex is free as it comes with the Oracle database license.
1) Do we need some kind of HTTP server to host the Apex on the browser ?
2) Does any HTTP server will work with Oracle Apex ?
3) Any other free Oracle tool which we can use instead of licensing Oracle HTTP server for this Apex ?
Correct me if I am wrong.
Thanks in advance for the gurus out here.

Correct me if I am wrong.OHS is covered by the DB license if OHS is run on the same server. See Joel's post and the document he links to: +{message:id=9256804}+.

  • New Oracle HTTP server install unable to host remote HTMLDB.

    Hi all.
I installed the Oracle HTTP Server from the Oracle 10G Release 1 companion CD on a Mac Powerbook running the Tiger OS. I have a CentOS Linux server on my network with Oracle 10G R2 database running that I've installed HTMLDB 2.0 on. I can not seem to get the HTTP server to serve up a front end to my HTMLDB. I can connect and log into the Oracle Database from the MAC using SQLPlus using the HTMLDB_PUBLIC_USER account and password.
    Here is my dads.conf file:
    Alias /i/ "/oracle/product/10.1.0/db_1/Apache/Apache/images/"

    </Location>
    AddType text/xml xbl

Here is the errors I'm seeing on the error log:

It keeps giving me the error for the Language, but I've changed the PlsqlNLSLanguage serveral times to other posted values I've found and other postings and I still get that error.
Has anyone else worked through this or may have an idea how I can get this working?

  • How to isolate web applications at URL level with Oracle HTTP Server?

We have 2 machines each for oracle web cache, oracle http server and oracle application server (oc4j). We would like to host many web applications on this infrastructure. We have an issue with application/web site isolation for maintenance purposes.
We have several oc4j containers for different web sites/applications but they all use one instance of Oracle Http Server. When we need to make changes to an application/web site or introduce a new web site (URL), we change the OHS configuration and restart OHS on each of the machines.
As we have many URLs hosted on this OHS and plan to host a lot more (may be around 300), we need a way to slice and dice the URLs so that every change or any change should not need to go through a regression cycle or testing cycle for all the applications each weekend (our change window). When we used Apache earlier, we used to be able to create multiple httpd.conf (process level isolation) to cater to different applications.
We could do this with Oracle Http Server too but Oracle will not support us. I appreciate any advice or suggestion with this issue.
    Thank you

    Hi Joey,
A great idea! I recently presented at a local user group meeting about my WebSockets API (see the links in my signature). I've uploaded the presentation and the demo code I gave to our UG here.
I think the barrier to entry is with needing to know the web languages (e.g. html/css/js) as well as writing your LabVIEW code. I have joined the group and look forward to seeing some interesting content on there! Certainly some demos of using AJAX to make requests to Web Services and do something with the data (e.g. display on a graph) would be a good place to start.

  • Web Service and Oracle HTTP Server

I have a web environment with Oracle Database 10.2.0.3 , oracle http server (using mod_plsql), Oracle pl/sql web toolkit. I need to create a web service that is accessed externally which will interact with the database (select, insert, delete). Is it possible to publish a web service to the Oracle Http Server or to implement web services with the environment above

    Hello,
In RDBMS 10g you cannot directly expose WS from the DB you need to use the OracleAS Web Service Runtime to do it, following this documentation:
    - Developing Web Services that Expose Database Resources
This is true if we are talking about "tooling/runtime/API" but after all Web Services are mainly XML (WSDL and SOAP) so it is still possible to create by hands (PL/SQL & static files) but it is probably a long work depending of the complexity of your services.
Also, in RDBMS 11, you can now directly expose WS from the DB using the embedded HTTP server, see this Oracle 11g New Features Document
Note that before taking one approach you must take time to write up your requirement regarding Web Services eg: do I need security, which time of encoding, interoperability, ..., ... For example WS-Security that is the standard to secure SOAP messages is not (yet) supported by the Oracle 11g RDBMS Native Web Services... where when you do use the WS-Runtime you can secure the Web Service..

  • Using an Oracle Directory as DocumentRoot in Oracle Http Server

    Hello,
¿Is it possible that OHS(Oracle Http Server) use an Oracle Directory(directory object in database) as its DocumentRoot? The idea behind that is put the web application's files in Oracle Directories for easily make updates and versioning.
Thank you very much for your help in advance.

Thanks Gary , Your reply is perfectly correct ,
I have verified the same with ETL data lineage guide ,
The Columns that match to the MCAL_CAL_NAME~MCAL_PERIOD_TYPE
    MCAL_CAL_NAME = GL_PERIODS.PERIODS_SET_NAME
    MCAL_PERIOD_TYPE = GL_PERIODS.PERIOD_TYPE
Query for same to get from EBS Source will be
    select period_set_name , period_type From gl_periods ;
    Thanks For Help !!

  • To install Oracle HTTP Server only

    Hi,
I already installed Apex (3.0) in an Oracle database a while ago. I have used our Oracle iAS 10.1.2 as the application server. Now, I would like to install the Oracle HTTP Server in the database server and use it to run Apex. With the 10g companion CD, there is not any option to install the Oracle HTTP Server (Apache 1.3) only. Is there any way that I can install the Oracle HTTP Server only without installing Apex again? Where can I download it?
Also, I heard that there is a version of Oracle HTTP Server (Apache 2) bundled with Oracle 11g. Can I use it for Apex 3.0?
    Thanks.
    Andy

    Hi,
    See:
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/database/oracle10g/htdocs/10201winsoft.html
Here you have the option, to install HTTP only
    Kind regards,

PS: be aware this cd contains apex 1.6 ;-)

  • Install Oracle HTTP Server to Oracle Database XE

Successfully managed to install Oracle Database XE to Windows 2000 (after temporarily dropping TNSNAMES and TNS_ADMIN variables). I want to learn how to use Application Express (formerly HTML DB) and it would be a pain/take ages to get the enterprise DBA's to install it onto a supported networked instance. I have installed HTML DB into Oracle XE but the post installation instructions require that Oracle HTTP Server is installed. How do you get Oracle HTTP Server installed into Oracle XE? Oracle Universal Installer does not recognise Oracle XE as an Oracle Home. How do you use Oracle Universal Installer on Oracle XE? or how do you download Oracle HTTP Server with InstallShield? Seems strange that Oracle XE does not integrate with other toolset installations.
    Thanks

exec FLOWS_020000.wwv_flow_upgrade.switch_schemas ('FLOWS_020000','FLOWS_020100');commit;I would give it a try, it's hard to make it worse ;).
Oracle XE / Apex is almost the same.
    Some of the differences are:
    - SSO authentication is not supported out of the box (although there are workarounds)
    - You can assign only a single database schema to a workspace
    - There are no developer accounts in the workspaces
Basically, both version are pretty much the same. You can export / import applications both ways.
I cannot see what you mean by missing templates. They are all there (although not in the filesystem but stored in the database via XMLDB).
You can reach the documentation from the homepage of XE and also from Start > Programs > Oracle Express Edition

  • Trying to download Oracle HTTP Server keeps sending me to Weblogic Server

I'm trying to find a link to download Oracle HTTP Server for use with APEX. Can someone provide a current link?
I've gor a linux 64 bit x86 installation redhat version 5.3. I tried to do a see all, on the database download page, but I'm not seeing Oracle HTTP Server as an available link. Did this recently change?

  • Web Site Hosting in Oracle HTTP Server

    Hi All,
We have an application based on Oracle UCM. We are accessing that application using the url http://site_name/GMKP/index.htm . I have done virtual hosing (name based) with HTTP Server to host multiple web sites. One requirement is we need to access our application using url http://site_name/gmkp/index.htm . How can we do that? Please let me know a solution for this. Do we have to write some rewrite rule for this?
    Thanks,
    Manikandan
Edited by: Manikandan on Nov 9, 2010 2:22 AM

Look into mod_rewrite with a .htaccess file. You turn it on in httpd.conf.
There is a pretty nice instruction at http://www.addedbytes.com/for-beginners/url-rewriting-for-beginners/

  • Need Oracle HTTP Server for mod_plsql and link to download software

    Hi all,
I want to use mod_plsql to publish HTML from the database.
Therefore, I need an Oracle HTTP Server with mod_plsql.
I have installed the "Oracle HTTP Server with Apache 2.0 10.1.3.1", but there is no mod_plsql included! The welcome page refers to a "Oracle HTTP Server Standalone Administrator's Guide Based On Apache 2.0" which is not installed and can' t be found on OTN.
Can someone give me a link to Oracle HTTP Server installation software which includes mod_plsql?
    Any hints are welcome!
    Thanks, Markus

Based on the version of the database, you could use the listener from that - the same XML DB uses. That would not require an application server install at all.
Alternative: the mod_plsql replacement cartridge off Tom Kyte's site: asktom.oracle.com. Source only - compile against your preferred Apache

    Hi,
I need to install Siebel Application on Linux-64 bit, for which I have to use Oracle HTTP server as my web server.
The system requirements guide for Siebel mentions that I will need - Oracle HTTP Server 10.1.3.3 (based on Apache Web Server v2.2 or above).
But I am unable to find Oracle HTTP based on Apache Version 2.2 or above, instead I am able to find Oracle HTTP 10.1.3.3 based on Apache 1.3.
Can anyone direct me to the appropriate place to find Oracle HTTP Server 10.1.3.3 (based on Apache Web Server v2.2 or above)

  • Oracle application server 10g http server virtual host

    Hi,
I have defined a new virtual host, changed its setting and create a folder with html file for redirection.
Now when i am trying to access that new virtual host it is redirecting me to the old application.
    e.g.
    old.domain.com taking me old application.
    new.domain.com taking me old application.
in HTML file i wrote url like ... http://myappsserver:port .......
could you please tell me am i missing some thing..
    thanks

You can find the port usage by executing opmnctl status -l from the command line. This should give you the port usage for each opmn-governed component. In a standard setup, web cache normally runs on port 7777 while Oracle HTTP Server runs on 7778. Alternatively, you can check the httpd.conf for the parameter Listen. This will give you the Oracle HTTP Server port as well.
Did you test with the directive NameVirtualHost added?

Can OHS use mod_proxy to connect to weblogic or do I need to use mod_wl_ohs?
Does anyone see anything wrong in my ssl.conf file in regards to the proxy section.
    Thanks in advance.

    In summary:
You need to create a new wallet with CSR (certificate signing req)
Send this to your certificate authority and get the signed server certificate.
Now import the signed server cert and the trusted root cert in to the wallet that you created newly.
Modify ssl.conf to point to the new wallet location.
To create wallet refer to : http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E25054_01/core.1111/e10105/wallets.htm#CHDGIJDC

    Shannon,
The OHS + Weblogic installation, just means you will have an admin server, with Enterprise Manager that can manage your OHS instances. That being said:
1 - You don't have to extend any domain, since the only thing OHS will need is an Admin Server with Enterprise Manager.
2 - I (myself, I don't speak for Oracle here) have a personal preference of having stand alone OHS. If you don't know how to work with httpd.conf and mod_wl.conf, I would suggest installing a separate domain only for it, that way you can keep the weblogic turned off, and turn it on only when you need to edit any configuration.
    Thanks

  • Oracle HTTP Server and Node Manager

    Hi,
I installed Oracle HTTP Server with Node Manager. I set "CrashRecoveryEnabled=true" in the nodemanager.properties. It works fine when I reboot the machine, but when I kill the root process (kill -9), the new process can not be started as the previous process does not have enough time to die and still uses the ports. I tried to run "nmGenBootStartupProps" in wlst, or set the
    RestartMax=2
    RestartDelaySeconds=5
variables in "[domain_name]/servers/[server_name]/data/nodemanager/startup.properties" - no success.
Any ideas, how to set the number of retries and the delay between restarts?

To deploy your FMX you need AS 10.1.2 Forms installed, and then you can use AS control or Forms server configuration file.
For more information regarding FMX deployment, refer to http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B14099_19/web.1012/b14032/toc.htm
