Dock location with secondary monitor

I currently have a secondary monitor arranged to the left of my primary one, but I would like to keep my Dock located vertically along the left side of the primary screen. Is there any way to do this, it seems like a fairly basic option, but OS X insists on putting the Dock on the far left of the secondary screen because I've set it to "Extend" the displays. Mirroring the displays isn't helpful, nor is moving the menu bar to the secondary display, and I'd prefer not to move the Dock to the bottom or right side of the primary screen. I've looked for solutions elsewhere, and if one can't be provided, how should I contact Apple to encourage them to add this option? Thanks.

There should be something between Mirroring and Extending displays. Obviously I want to use the extra monitor for something other than simply having another copy of the stuff on my primary screen, but I also want access to the same menus/Dock on my secondary as on my primary. I realize that my Dock goes to the far left because I've selected to "Extend" the displays, I just wish there was an option to tell OS X not to do that. I've yet to find any third-party utilities that can achieve what I want. Dock-It came close, but it missing a lot of features from the standard Dock (and it's ugly). Also, I shouldn't need a third-party app to do this. I love OS X, but sometimes it's a little stubborn.

  • Lenovo S531 va USB 3.0 Docking. No secondary monitor?

Hi. I have been having the strangest of problems with my Lenovo S531 and usb 3.0 docking. I recently first-time installed windows 7 and updated the the machine completely. I then installed the USB 3.0 docking, and everything worked great just a few days ago. When I started to use the computer again yesterday, my secondary monitor did not come on at all. At first I thought it was just a windows bug, so I restarted the machine, but when it came back on the problem still occurred. Then I tried switching to another monitor of the same type...and nothing. This was starting to get really strange, so I tried to reinstall and update to the latest docking drivers, but still nothing! At this point I started to get desperate so I tried multiple ways to install the drivers towards the docking, and nothing. I even tried to use a new and unopened docking (identical to the one I was using) and the same problem still occurred! *taking a deep breath* I have no idea what is going on, and for some reason all my devices in the device manager is gone to. Is there anyone who have experienced a similar problem that can help me?
P.s I have tried to identify the monitor through the screen resolution tab, but it seems like the monitor is not even plugged in. (have also tried to just plug the monitor directly in my computer without the docking, and that works just fine)

The adapter should work for any machine with USB 3.0.

Mouse cursor movement is interrrupted or jumps as soon as a secondary monitor is connected to my iMac. Either mouse movement direction is affected. Typically cursor movement stops for about a second while moving mouse further. Then suddenly cusor jumps either forward or backward.

  • ThinkPad USB 3.0 Dock 0A33970 with 2560x1440 monitor

My 2560x1440 monitor works fine on a desktop PC.
This dock (really more like a USB 3.0 to dual DVI adapter) works fine with my 1920x1200 monitor.
But this dock won't recognize my 2560x1440 monitor/the 2560x1440 resolution doesn't get detected.  This problem happens with NVidia Optimus Mode and Discreet Video modes on my ThinkPad W520, and this happens with Windows 7 x64 SP1 or Windows 8 Release Preview.
Here's the USB 3.0 Dock listings:

    Any ideas?

    Hey Jimbo!
At this point, it's looking likely that the dock's driver and/oor firmware isn't supporting 2560x1440, since using a DisplayPort (from W520 port) to DVI-D Accell adapter allows my to work fine with my video driver:

    Here's the monitor:

so still eager to see if the DL-3900 chipset's capabilities to drive 2560x1440 will be enabled at some point.

  • X240 - Thinkpad Ultra dock Problem with external monitors

I have tried to connect my two external monitors to the dock (the one connected to the vga port) but it was only able to detect one of them (though at a low resolution) and not the other. i have tried using a replicator to connect the screen to the dvi and the usb  ports but nothing seemed to work
Did anyone face the same problem and how were they able to resolve it - any recommendation for a port replicator brand / usb to vga display adapter to use that would work?
    Thanks

Seems that there is no solution now, because DP MST should be implemented in Linux: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=72795

  • Help with Secondary Monitor

I have my laptop hooked up to a LCD TV on when I go to drag my iTunes window onto the TV the video starts to skip. Checked the refresh rates on the video card and everything matches with the TV's refresh rate. Please help if you can!
    iTunes 8 and Windows XP.

Activity Monitor can display system processes, so use it to ascertain which ones those are. There are other selections, so cycle through and see what's going on. Do note that those apps you installed may have put things into various Library directories. Look inside LaunchAgents, LaunchDaemons, and StartupItems subfolders and delete anything related to them. • Launch Pad bug with Multi-Monitors in Mavericks...

I noticed something while trying to use a two monitor setup with Mavericks 10.9. After moving from the primary laptop monitor to the secondary monitor, I noticed that after clicking in the screen to make it the active screen that the LaunchPad gesture would not work. From there I proceeded to drag the pointer down to access the Dock. I noticed after touching the Dock in the secondary monitor, then LaunchPad gesture would work. If I try the LaunchPad gesture before touching the dock, the system brings up LaunchPad in the screen of the previously active monitor. I noticed the same senario when moving from the secondary monitor back to the primary monitor. So, in a nut shell:
1.) When moving from one active monitor screen to another, click in the inactive screen to make it the active screen.
2.) Move pointer to the Dock (wait for Dock to rise).
3.) After the first two steps, THEN the LaunchPad gesture can be used in the now active monitor.
Has anyone else noticed this? Now a big deal but it is an annoyance I cannot believe no one else has seen.

Thank you!  Your solution worked for me.
It seems to be a bug in multimonitors.

  • Lightroom 4.1 RC2 - Secondary monitor issue

    Hi
lightroom 4.1 rc2 seems to have solved the crash issue when using a secondary monitor.
NOW i have another HUGE and HEAVY problem...
The image that appears in the secondary monitor have total different colors than the reality... and when switching the configuration ( so main window go into secondary monitor ) colors are fine ( so this isn't a bad configuration between monitor and lightroom.... ).
Images in secondary monitor appears less contrasted and greenish. And that's a big issue ( cause i use secondary monitor for the correct balancement for printing ).
I repeat that the main window of lightroom shows the image correctly when working with secondary monitor as main...

    Known bug.

  • Secondary monitor taskbar disabled

Since August Patch Tuesday [2014], at least I think after these patches, something annoying happens with secondary monitors taskbar, it simply disables. Right click and select properties, then just ok it (without any changes) enables it again.
It seems to happen after a rdp connection to it.
As mentioned, not serious, but a bit annoying.
    Workaround ? Settings ? Microsoft: Change ?

Yes, enabled (option checked), settings exactly as T.Kujala's screendump.
    PC model (1) = Fujitsu <something>
PC model (2) = Home brew from different parts, ASUS MB, Intel i5 something etc. etc.
I think model is not relevant, the problem exists both at my work and at my home office, running totally different PC models, different windows domains, different graphic card types, different screen types, different most other except Microsoft account, operating
    system and windows updates.
Based on the fact that the "problem" shows up on 2 totally different machines (and only after this August Tuesday patches and the non-serious nature of the problem, I am not willing to put a lot of work into this.
If Microsoft asks me to generate some kind of logs, reports etc. to be able to find the cause of the problem, no problem as long as it does not introduce lots of work or risks to my installations.

  • Is there a way to place the Dock on the bottom of a secondary monitor?

I use my iMac as primary monitor and a secondary display on the right. Is there a way to place the dock on the bottom of the secondary monitor(in a way that the display arrangment actually match the monitor position on my desk)?
I want something like this, with the red marker as the dock(the display arrangment match how the monitors are in my desk):
The solution I'm working with is:
I could turn the monitor attached to the iMac as primary(and set the dock there), but I got some problems with programs opening in wrong positions all the time and some issues with full screen programs as well(also I think the iMac didn't handle well setting the primary display in another monitor).
If there isn't a way to do it in Mountain Lion, will Maverick do any better?

Don't know of a way to get the Dock on the top.
But, to keep it out of the way but available, in the Dock prefs pane in System Preferences you can set it to "automatically hide and show". Choosing that setting means the Dock will normally be hidden; to gain access to it, all you need do is brush the bottom of the screen (or the side you have Doc set to) with the cursor, and it will appear, staying visible only until you move the cursor away.
You can also use the keyboard combo Command-Option-D to invoke/revoke Dock Hiding, which in effect means you can use that keyboard command to toggle the Dock's visibility.

  • The Dock keeps switching on my Macs with dual monitors

I have 2 monitors on my computers - 2 Mac Pros (2011) and an iMac.  All are running 10.10.1.
I have one monitor in each case that is the "home" monitor - with the dock and files on the desktop.  All 3 of my computers keep switching the Dock to the other monitor .. randomly.  Once switched, the Dock stays on the other monitor until I use system preferences to change the arrangement.
Has anyone found a cure for this problem?  It started for me with OS 10.9

    Hey there Richard,
It sounds like your dock is moving to your external monitor when you are working in that space. On Mavericks, this is expected behavior. The dock can be available on whatever monitor you are currently working on. Here is some more info on that:
OS X: Using multiple displays in Mavericks
    Working with the Dock
When the Dock is configured to appear at the bottom of your screen, it's available on whichever screen you’re working on. Just move your pointer to the bottom of either display. When the Dock is configured for the left or right position, it appears on the leftmost or rightmost display edge.
Tip: If you don't see your dock because it's set to hidden or there's a full screen app on the display, move your pointer to the location of the Dock. If the Dock still doesn't appear, swipe your pointer towards the Dock again to unhide it.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Regards,
    Sterling

  • Secondary monitor displays with colorshift

secondary monitor displays with colorshift in LR4.1rc2. this is on windows 7/64.
Both my  monitors i have are calibrated with spyder3, one is hardwarecalibrated eizo CG243, the other a HP2475 calibrated with spyder4 elite software.
Colorshift shows same characteristics when i switch LR app window with secondary window.
IT looks as if sRGB profile is applied to the secondary preview, because of the  strong/overly saturated colors.
It seems to  me a softwarebug, which makes secondary display inusable.
How is color management supposed to work in LR4?

It works fine with me (LR4.1 RC2, but previously used RC1, LR4.0, LR3.6... all worked the same).
I have a wide-gamut HP LP2475w (approx Adobe RGB  gamut) and a Samsung193P (approx sRGB).  Both calibrated/profiled with Color Munki Display, but I've previously used Eye One and Spyder units.  After calibration/profiling, LR main and secondary display look the same in both Loupe and Develop view, and no matter which is LR's primary display.  (Obviously, colours outside sRGB gamut don't look the same!)
I've just checked, and it still seems to be the case on my set up (W7 64-bit).
I can't think what the problem might be.  I guess you've checked in Control Panel / Color Management that the correct profiles are assigned to each monitor.  And I guess that you've got a video card with dual LUTs that allows separate calibration (mind you, I've never come across any cards that don't have separate LUTs, but apparently there are some).
PS - Web view might be different, as I think LR uses IE for rendering in web view only, and IE doesn't colour-manage properly.

  • Thinkpad T440s freezes with 2nd monitor via dock

Hi there - I have a strange problem with my Thinkpad T440s:
Connecting a 2nd monitor directly (VGA) works like a charm, however putting the Thinkpad into the docking station (with the 2nd monitor connected to the dock) freezes the system. Without the 2nd monitor the dock is working fine. When booting with the 2nd monitor connected to the dock, both screens stay black as soon as the kernel loads.
Is this a known problem / any ideas? Can I somehow help fixing this problem?
I know that I'm not the only one since I have found other people reporting this here: http://thinkpad-forum.de/threads/165520 … -und-Linux
They also provided an xorg.log (http://pastebin.com/Qk7nHVwt) which shows nothing suspicious, I guess...

Same issue with my T440p. Happens with VGA, DP & HDMI (haven't tested DVI) on the dock. Undocking unfreezes it. If X is running the X server freezes and consumes 20% CPU, if none is running a kworker process does that. Even with no monitor attached it will freeze when the builtin monitor wakes up from sleep (again, undocking helps).
Here's a stack trace from the frozen X (^C'd while it was frozen from waking up the display, gdb only reacted again after undocking):

Edit: "Solved" by returning the laptop. This issue plus the loud (and not well-controllable) fan and the lack of support for the fingerprint sensor (different from previous ThinkPad models, it's from Validity Sensors) just aren't worth the trouble.

  • Redraw problems on secondary monitor with 2 Acrobat documents

When I have two overlapping Acrobat 9 documents open on my secondary monitor and I click on the Acrobat doc in the background to bring it to the front, the image from the Acrobat doc that was in front is captured in the Acrobat document that I brought to the front.
I can't reproduce this problem on my primary monitor with Acrobat, and I can't reproduce this problem with any program on my secondary monitor. And I can't reproduce this problem on my secondary monitor with two document open with Adobe reader 8.0
    Window 2003 XP 64bit, SP2
    ATI FireGL V7350, primary/secondary
    Dual Dell 2407 WFP
    ASUS P5W DH Deluxe MB
    Intel Core2 x6800

I have the same problem here, but with either monitor.
Dell Precision T7400  Quadcore Xeon with 4GB RAM & Windows XP 32bit, Quadro 1700, two Dell 2001FPs (1200x1600)
Both my monitors are rotated 90' in Portrait mode. In landscape this doesn't appear to happen.
Acrobat 9.0 Pro, now patched to Acrobat 9.1
I can view full-monitor for a while, but then Acrobat stops redrawing/repainting properly when the window size exceeds a (variable) limit.
As a work-around, I start making the acrobat window size smaller until the window will redraw.
As time goes by, I have to keep making the window size smaller and smaller to get redraw work.
Eventually the window size required for redraw gets small enough that it's just too annoying and then I reboot the machine which makes it all good again for a short amount of time.
This and the OCR bug are my two biggest issues with Acrobat 9.
