Document cannot be opened because it is either not a supported file type or the file has been damaged
Hi All,
I would appreciate if you can help me with this problem. I used to be able to access all my pdf files, but now I can't and this is the error message I get on them.
I tried the registry editor to create a bValidateBytesBeforeHeader solution, but either it is not the solution to my problem, or I'm not doing it right.
I would really like some help from you guys so that I can get my files to work.
Thanks
girisht97034793, just a little extra note. There are several possible causes of "file corrupted". These include
* The rules for PDF being tightened up. This is what the bValidateBytesBeforeHeader solution is about. This is NOT the problem here.
* File was a PDF, but got damaged, for example by a faulty disk. Could be this, probably not.
* File never was a PDF. Often, we can see what the file really is. But I can't see that this file is any other kind of valid file.
* File was damaged by a virus or "ransomware". Perhaps this is the problem here.
* File was encrypted. But usually you'd know about this going on.
Anyway, this is just confirming what ~graffiti says, but I'd done the research before replying but I thought I'd share. He has excellent questions.

I would save as PDF and when I go to open it is blank and I get the message above.
Back up all data before making any changes. Please take each of the following steps until the problem is resolved.
Step 1
If Adobe Reader or Acrobat is installed, and the problem is just that you can't print or save PDF's displayed in Safari, you may be able to do so by moving the cursor to the the bottom edge of the page, somewhere near the middle. A black toolbar should appear under the cursor. Click the printer or disk icon.
Step 2
There should be a setting in its preferences of the Adobe application such as Display PDF in Browser. I don't use those applications myself, so I can't be more precise. Deselect that setting, if it's selected.
Step 3
If you get a message such as ""Adobe Reader blocked for this website," then from the Safari menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Security
and check the box marked
Allow Plug-ins
Then click
Manage Website Settings...
and make any required changes to the security settings for the Adobe PDF plugin.
Step 4
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
/Library/Internet Plug-ins
In the Finder, select
Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens by pressing command-V, then press return.
From the folder that opens, move to the Trash any items that have "Adobe" or “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari.
Step 5
The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it, if it's present. The same goes for a plugin called "iGetter," and perhaps others—I don't have a complete list. Don't remove Silverlight if you use the "Netflix" video-streaming service.
Step 6
Do as in Step 4 with this line:
~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari. -
Can anyone help with this? I cannot open PDF files sent via e-mail?
Thank you.
I did this and they said that they send thousands of these e-mails and attachments out and we are the only people who are having trouble. I tried several other computers to see if the PDF opened OK on them but had no success. I still get the same error message -

What I have to do?? I do not have Page 09 any more. I've got Pages Vers.5.0.1I suspect you have created the documnet's in Pages 08 or earlier. Do you have the iWork 08 DVD so you can install it? Then update to from this link Pages 08 3.0.3 Use it for you older documents and use Pages 5 only for new documents.

Have recently updated Adobe Reader and now unable to open downloaded documents - Message received is could not open 'file name.pdf' because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (for example, it was sent as an email attachment and wasn't correctly decoded). When I check the file it shows Zero KB downloaded but the file appears - any suggestions?
Obviously your download was not successful.

This document cannot be opened because it is corrupted or damaged.
Hi There
I have recently created a pdf document in "Expert PDF 7" from "Avanquest". I have inserted certain fields which needs to be completed by the reader for example name, surname etc.
On my desktop, using Windows 7 and Adobe Reader X it works perfectly but, when using my iPad 3 and Adobe Reader it stalls. I can enter the first field but, as soon as I move to the next field the following error appears; "This document cannot be opened because it is corrupted or damaged."
Can someone please assist?
Regards,
MarinusUnfortunately, the file cannot be recovered. Also, it would be difficult to ascertain the reason that led to this issue. There was an issue with the previous versions of Adobe Reader that led to some Acrobat.com documents to be corrupted which is fixed in the latest version. Request you to update Adobe Reader to the latest version(11.7.0) available on the Play Store where you won't encounter the issue again.
Thanks,

I am using Adobe Acrobat 9 Standard version in Windows 8.1 and when I try to create a .pdf file, I receive the following error message "Acrobat could not open "file name.log" because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged. To create a PDF document, go to the source application then print the document to .pdf" I am going to the source application and printing the document to .pdf yet it's saving the file as a .log file. After reinstalling the software, I initially didn't encounter this problem but on my second and third attempts to convert files to .pdf format, this error message reappeared. How do I resolve this problem?
I have a similar problem which i did not have before...and it exists only in some powerpoint files which i want to print as a pdf file...and i get the same message as above.
the log says the bellow details...what's the problem and how can i resolve it? thanks.
