Document database

Hi, I have a bunch of documents in the file system and want them to be web accessible. I don't know if I need to store all of those documents in the database tables or just save the location paths of them on the server. If store in the tables, how I can load them? I appreciate your help very much. Thanks.

Thank you, Krystian. How can I populate so many documents to the tables? Initially, I wanted to just save the file name with location path in the tables, so that I don't need to populate BLOB tables. I use plsql as the front-end. I don't know how I can upload the files to the file system and save the path in the tables by using this. BTW, what is the popular way to build a file management system?

  • Problem opening indesign document (database publishing?)

    Hello
    I need help urgently from someone who has experience with InDesign files that refuse to open.
    My client has created 2 documents, and they have no problem opening it. ~They tell me it is made with InDesign CS2. I have tried to open it with CS/CS2/CS3 and even an .inx version of the file will not open.
    Error message is: < Cannot open the file "xxxx.indd". Adobe InDesign may not support the file format, a plug-in that supports the file format may be missing, or the file may be op in another application.>
    The file is filled with txt file from a database, that needs to be replaced by me.
    My client has no extra plugins installed, I have asked to do a 3rd party check, but list is empty.
    Help, what can I do. I have 2 files that need to be worked in quickly. Anyone has experience by peeking into the file with a hex editor or text wrangler to see what is going on? I can send 1 file via e-mail (1.5 MB size)
    Thanks,
    Aram de Glas

    thanks for all who have suggested solutions. I have solved it in the mean time, by removing all pages except the master pages, and had it re-saved. So the conclusion is that there was something on one of the pages that made it impossible to open. My bet is a faulty image or logo

  • Doument Access - using Portal security or Document Database security

    I originally posted this on the Security Form, but realized that it might be solved using the PDK.
    I have a table in my database that contains information about a document (Name, Rev, Author, groups that have access). I want users to login to my portal and in a portlet, I want them to be able to click which docs they have access to see; based on who they are logged on as.
    Would I use the PDK for this? If I use portal security, I think I will be maintaining the security twice (database and portal).

              Hi Wendell,
              There is a patch available for this known problem. Please contact BEA support and
              ask for patch CR075892_70.jar for WLS 7.0.

  • What is the best directory / location to store master document database?

    I would like to store my master database containing 14GB of data on the iPhone itself, and then use that to connect to my Mac computers (either the desktop, or one of my laptops). So I have a couple of choices that I am aware of. I can store everything inside of the Documents to Go directory. Or, I can store everything inside of OneDisk because that lets me upload to the cloud. It gets a little confusing to store data in the iDisk directory on the iPhone because each file that is downloaded gets its own folder with a very long name that is worthless in terms of organization. I am happy to keep a duplicate in the cloud of all 14GB, but I want the most current database to be on my phone. For OneDisk to upload, it looks like things need to be inside the OneDisk directory. Any suggestions? I want an organizational system that can be used at least until the next iPhone comes out. Thanks.

    If your XML data will not be larger than 4000 characters then use VARCHAR2 else CLOB. I don't see a need to use BLOB (unless your XML data contains binary information).

  • Document database in Jdeveloper like Oracle designer

    Hi,
    I want to know if there is some way to document the database (Mode diagramm, entities, all BD objects) in Oracle Jdeveloper like Oracle Designer
    Thanks.

    Yes you can create a database diagram and drag the tables into it to document them.

  • While saving a document database conflict appears on workgroup clients

    Hi
    I will expalin the sales process first.
    A sales representative creates a sales transaction on his laptop and submits it for approval.
    An approver logs on to a workgroup client to check/modify if required and then approve or reject the transaction.
    Contrans is scheduled for every 5 minutes on the workgroup server.  The issue raises in the following scenario:
    1.     Approver modifies the transaction and saves it.
    2.     Approvers does some more changes but have not saved it yet.
    3.     Contrans starts on the workgroup server.
    4.     Now If the approver tries to save the transaction he gets an error message
    Error message "transaction XXX not fully confirmed by the server and can not be edited, please synchronise again to recieve pending confirmations"
    5.     Once the deal is confirmed by CRM server and the approver try to save the deal then the following error message with a popup appears
    u201CDatabase conflict has occurredu201D
    6.     After clicking on the pop-up all the changes done after the first save are lost.
    Any Solution/Suggestion/Proposal would be highly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.
    Javed

    Hi,
    your issue is not related to the workgroup scenario at all. This might happen on a "normal" MSA client too.
    Actually you have 2 independent issues:
    1) "waiting for pending CRM confirmation": After upload of an document from MSA to CRM (by hitting submit button) it is not editable as long as the confirmation is not yet sent back from CRM to MSA client. This is to avoid inconsistencies of documents which are also uploaded later on to R/3 or have some other post-processing in CRM like billing.
    2) "BO xyz is locked by user abc": This might happen if the MSA user still "stands" on the document (even in display mode) which has been uploaded just before. In case the user starts conntrans OUTSIDE of MSA no refresh to the application is fired, and if the user edits/changes and saves the document then the time stamp check is failing (because it is not read from DB but from the loaded object which is older than the timestamp sent from CRM). If the user would run conntrans from the MSA MENUE a refresh would happen and the error wouldn't appear. But this doesn't apply to a workgroup scenario...
    Finally I can't see any solution for your problem because after uploading the document from the MSA user to the workgroup server the way of course goes via the CRM server - and changes afterwards done by the approver too.

    Wolfhard

  • Database server address space

    In the document "Database developers guide" is written the following:
    "Most significantly, from the point of view of performance, you should note that only PL/SQL and Java methods run within the address space of the server. C/C++ methods are dispatched as external procedures, and run on the server machine but outside the address space of the database server. "
    what does it mean - "the address space of the server" ?

    Hi,
    Its means that it will use free space available in the Memory (i.e., not within the SGA).
    Memory = Oracle used Memory (SGA + PGA) + OS Process Memory + Other Running process Memory + Free Memory.
    This C/C++ programs will use the free memory.

  • Connecting to an Azure SQL Database from a Windows C# Form

    Hi,
    Is it possible to connect to an SQL database in Azure from Visual Studio C# 2010 or 2012? If so how is this done. Is it the same as if you were connecting to SQL Express database with the use of a connection string? Any directions or tutorials would be of
    great help!
    Thanks!

    Hi,
    >>Thanks for the reply Paul, That is disappointing. I am trying to get my students to create a C# application that will connect with a database in Azure. Is there another approach besides SQL that I could use?
    Using SQL Azure will work fine (see below), if the students are familiar with SQL Server and SQL Databases it will be great for them to see how it works in the cloud. As an alternative you could explore Azure Storage, using Table Storage, Blob Storage or
    the new Document Database features.
    >>Azure enforces a firewall that prevents direct external access to the database server. You can add a firewall rule allowing external access, but the rules only support connecting from a fixed IP address because you have to specify the numeric IP
    from which connection will be allowed.
    You can specify ranges here, so you could cover a range of IP addresses. You can even specify 0.0.0.0 to 255.255.255.255 and allow all IP addresses, this could be an option if you don't know where the students will be connecting from, and you are using a
    database for the exercise where you don't care too much about the security.
    When I have run classes I typically use an IP address range, for example XXX.YYY.ZZZ.0 to XXX.YYY.ZZZ.255 if the students are accessing from the same classroom, and the external IP address may vary. You may find that they all have the same external IP address
    if they are on the same internal network.
    Also, with many students accessing the same database, you may get throttling if they place a lot of load on it. This is cool, as you can also teach them about transient fault handling and resource throttling :-).

    Alan

  • Database Initialization Parameters Removal list 9iR2

    I have seen Oracle Metalink Document: Database Initialization Parameters and Configuration for Oracle Applications Release 11i Doc ID: Note:216205.1
    https://metalink.oracle.com/metalink/plsql/f?p=130:14:654135795036791041::::p14_database_id,p14_docid,p14_show_header,p14_show_help,p14_black_frame,p14_font:NOT,216205.1,1,1,1,helvetica#9iR2
    This document has a removal list and states that these parameters should be removed from the database initialization parameters file for 9iR2, while I can see some of the parameters being used which are hash_area_size, sort_area_size and optimizer_mode.
    Please clarify.
    Thank you
    Adith

    You would need to set "hash_area_size" and "sort_area_size" if you have 8.1.7.X database. For 9i and 10g you do not need to set them, and this is exactly what is mentioned in the note.
    If you check "Release-specific database initialization parameters for 9iR2 (9.2.0.X)", you will find the following:
    As of 9i, the automatic memory manager is used. This avoids the need to manually tune sort_area_size and hash_area_size

  • Crystal Reports - Switch between multiple databases at runtime (esp. DB2)

    Hi,
    we are currently developing a reporting application in .NET (C#) with an integrated Crystal Viewer. We want to be able to change the databse dynamically at runtime, especially between different DBMS.
    We encountered no problems when switching between a SQL Server and an Oracle DB, but we ran into big trouble if trying to connect to a DB2 db.
    In the report itself we have a SQL Server connection defined that is used during the design phase.
    In our application we change the connection at runtime using the following code:
    CrystalReportViewer viewer = new CrystalReportViewer();
    ReportDocument document = new ReportDocument();
    document.Load("<<path>>");
    Tables tables = document.Database.Tables;
    foreach (Table t in tables)
        ConnectionInfo info = new ConnectionInfo();
        info.UserID = "<UserId>";
        info.Password = "<Password>";
        info.ServerName = "<DSN of DB2 DB>";
        info.DatabaseName = "<DB2 DB Alias>";
        TableLogOnInfo tableInfo = t.LogOnInfo;
        tableInfo.ConnectionInfo = info;
        t.ApplyLogOnInfo(tableInfo);
    // ... Setting parameter values ...
    viewer.ReportSource = document;
    We also tried to add the following lines of code after the "ApplyLogOnInfo" call without any success:
    t.LogOnInfo.ConnectionInfo.UserID = "<UserId>";
    t.LogOnInfo.ConnectionInfo.Password = "<Password>";
    t.LogOnInfo.ConnectionInfo.ServerName = "<DSN of DB2 DB>";
    t.LogOnInfo.ConnectionInfo.DatabaseName = "<DB2 DB Alias>";
    Especially we are wondering because we don't get any error message. The Crystal Viewer just opens and shows an empty report without any data records. The TestConnectivity method called on each table (we are only using one table at the moment) also returns true.
    Furthermore it seems that whenever we call ApplyLogOnInfo, the UserID, password, server name and database name is resetted to the values defined in the data connection within the report (SQL Server, used in the desing phase as mentioned above).
    Any ideas, what we are doing wrong?
    Kind regards,
    Markus

    Hi Markus
    OK. Make sure you have the latest updates. First apply SP 2:
    https://smpdl.sap-ag.de/~sapidp/012002523100009038092009E/cr2008win_sp2.exe
    Than FP 2.4:
    https://smpdl.sap-ag.de/~sapidp/012002523100001024152010E/cr2008_fp24.zip
    Next, open the report in the CR designer and enable the "Verify on first refresh" option (File | report Options)
    If that does not help, export the report to rpt file format and try to view the exported report in the CR designer. What do you see?
